Also things about Heracles:
Zeus was both Heracles' father, great grandfather, and father in law. Being his father by birth, a decendent of Perseus, and his wife on Olympus being a daughter of Zeus
Zeus the all father
@@cwpsooks Odin would object to that lol
Sweet home -Alabama- Hellas!
Wasnt he also his great great great grandfather too? I believe Heracles was a descendant of Io because of Zeus as well.
@Frost E Bear keks in japan’s 2000+ year old royal family, although to be fair they used a lot of branches when they needed to but large portions of is directly related siblings or cousins or aunts/uncles taking over
Alchaius is the name he uses when he goes incognito mode.
Cool
😉
😂
Isn’t it spelled Alcides?
It's actually Alcides
Wow, imagine having your name be an ad for the goddess that’s trying to kill you
One of the myths is that Hera, unknowingly, gave a baby Heracles some of her breast milk which then gave him his super human strength.
Edit: Thank you for all of the milk yway lore guys.
Seems legit
@Widukind you're not the only one my friend.
@Widukind If you knew his life story, you really *wouldn’t* wish that.
I'm pretty sure the story never states that as the cause...
@@humanity600 in some versions it does but I’m interested to hear otherwise
I still don’t understand why Hera always acted as if the children were to blame.
Many people act like that, can't do nothing to the guy,so discounts into the children to feel better of themselves
Oh, she KNOWS Zeus is at fault. But... he’s kinda the king of the gods and the LAST time she rebelled she wound up dangling above the formless chaos sea with Zeus threatening to let her fall.
Yeah but she could still mess him up a bit. Zeus is afraid of her. I think all the gods are. She storms and yells at Zeus and makes him miserable for a little while than goes and murders the person he raped and utterly destroys the child's life
@@baohweeb6935 well Zeus did absorb his first wife so not surprised she’s takes it out on them. It does explain why Demeter is so protective of Persephone, since her dads Zeus
@@ryanwatt6706 yep
Well that's actually fun to know
Yeah

I can't remember which book, but in one of the Percy Jackson stories they make a specific point of that Heracles is actually pretty happy that it was Romanised as Hercules, removing the Hera connection.
I think that’s Mark of Athena
@@TheMythologyGuy1 Yeah, Piper had the cornucopia in Rome during the Water nymph incident. Rome was house of Hades.
Romanised ?? Can you elaborate, please ?
@@ravipayasi6875 It just means the Roman version, a version made more culturally Roman.
Wait... In Brazil we've been calling him Hércules all the time, i thought that Heracles was just a translation
I actually did know this. That's why in HOO Grace names her son Jason, to appease Hera. It worked a little better that time
I guess she liked the name Talia too, or she just said fuck it thats Juno’s problem
May or may not have mixed up whether Talia was from the greek or roman side
@@Pokemaster-wg9gx Greek. She was heading to camp-halfblood when she died. And she’s apart of the hunters of Artemis
Thalia is greek, and as she was the first child in a while, Hera wasn't quite so pissed. Thalia is named after the muse of comedy, whether her mother intended that I don't know
@@Pokemaster-wg9gx Talia was Greek, Jason was Roman.
@@bonjourphoenix7487 she was almost fucking there when she channeled her inner daphne
Fun Fact: Heracles killed his lyre teacher out of frustration once
Yup he beat him to death with the lyre lol
*once*
Hercules claimed this was self-defense
As another user said, I've read a version according to which Hera was given the baby to breastfeed it, not knowing who he was, and so he got his name. When she realised who the baby was, she pushed it away and some of the milk spilled onto the sky, creating the Milky Way, or galaxy, from the greek word "gala", meaning "milk".
wtf Hera
He should have kept his original name
Or he should use his other name (the one that we today known him by in Disney or whatever, Hercules)
I seriously learned so much from this guy wish you were my teacher
In a perfect world
@@TheMythologyGuy1
Men like me, wouldn't exist.
@@scarletbard6511 but this is not a perfect world
@@Qstate
Which is why Corona Virus tried to drive the human race extinct which turned out to be a failed attempt to achieve perfection....
[(Keep this going)]
Fun fact: No famous Hero that made it to the myths except for Perseus, (I'm not talking about Percy Jackson you guys, I'm talking about the son of Zeus one) Had a good ending
Funny enough, I don't think Hercules ever learned how many times Hera have him killed.
*bursts through the door* "Yer a wizard, Tomriddleisatotalchad."
"Well, that's great, but can we go back to why my parents gave me the worst name ever?"
I read the interpretation where it was meant to appease her. Like "We SERIOUSLY never meant for this to happen! Please don't kill us!"
If a god failed to kill a baby, regardless of the amount of power they have I could not be afraid of them.
This is the exact reason i prefer Hercules over Heracles, it just seems more respectful to him
One of the few times the romans arguably changed the mythology for the better
Acctually calling him Hercules is really disrespectful, he is greek, he was born in greece and he doesn't hate Hera at all, he acctually really like her, why he would be mad at people calling him Heracles? thats his name
@@zoeathanasiadis4825 Harumph, he enjoys the company of the Goddess who always tried to have him killed and forced him to kill his wife and children? Though, crazier things in Greek mythology have happened before.
@@deathrayman8074 Because he become Hera's son-in-law(by marrying her daughter Hebe) after his apotheosis. Also not to mention the adoption thing.
Overly Sarcastic Productions has taught me much. But I also must continue to heighten my knowledge in mythology. THIS’LL DO NICELY.
“This does not work!”
You are 100% correct about him not wanting the name Glory to Hera, which is why everyone calls him Hercules, which is his Roman name.
I swear norse mythology never ceases to amaze me. If you told me that zeus took the form of a woman and tried to do it up with hades I would 100% believe you.
This is Greek not Norse
It’s better than Glory to Zeus
Zeuscles?
Wait… a person attempted and failed to assassinate a baby… isn’t that like exactly what happened with baby Harry and Voldemort
It's so amazing that ancient civilization thought of such wonderous and magical religions, and the best we have are like 5 renditions of the same story that all hate each other
Cursed Knowledge: Heracles was born with a twin Iphicles, who then had a son Iolaus.
Iolaus was a charioteer who became Heracles' protegé AND boyfriend that helped him slay the Lernean Hydra.
There was also a tale in which Heracles gave away Megara his wife to Iolaus because everytime he looked at her he was haunted by the faces of his two children whom he burned and beat to death in a fit of madness caused by Hera.
HOW DO YOU FAIL AT ASSASSINATING A BABY?
Greeks when naming heracles: we do a little trolling
Heracles?
More like Mr.Snake Strangler
I am unfunny
Well btw love the vids
Nice to see someone else spreading this information.😃👌🔥
I thought Heracles meant ‘Gift from Hera’ and how it was like a ‘miracle’ that there was twins that lived through birth
Imagined being unable to assassinate a BABY when you are LITERALLY A GOD
Jack Skellington shirt. Respect.
“This did not work”
-my parents raising my oldest sibling
Now I'm curious what mythos that Jack Skellington relates to.
Thanatos, perhaps..?
With how Greek mythology is, I think it's safe to assume that it was to piss off Hera.
That Hercules art is awesome!
My favorite interpretation was his name meant “headache of Hera”. Sad to know it’s wrong, but it’s still so fitting.
Love these!!! I love history and mythology these are awesome and I knew none of this till now so thank you haha
And Disney made Hera his mother in their version for some reason.
"And this is why I go by the name Hercules in all popular media."
I always noticed how close their names looked to one another though the hate between them is limitless.
Apparently I had a hunch who proved to be a right one.
Great info btw.
At least he got a happy ending.
Let's not be too kind with Heracles here, he also accidentally*murdered his teacher in a temper tantrum* as a child in one of his stories.
Also he waged war on entire kingdoms for petty reasons, so that's cool. He had it rough with Hera but he also killed *a lot* of people for bad reasons.
So you're saying Hera and Voldemort have something in common? I mean, both failed to kill a baby...
Turtle...
How do you fail at assassinating a baby
Especially when you're a actual god
Didn't realize I've been saying his name wrong the whole fuxking time
You probably haven’t he is saying it the greek way not the roman, the roman way is hercules and the greek way is hercales
Disney: being held at gunpoint by Hera
Hey just found you in reels and I love your vids keep up the great work 👍
So, should we stick with Hercules instead of Heracles?
LMAO no wonder Heracles is so strong he is related to Zeus in like 4-5 different ways
Yeah put that respect on my name, hercules
That's why I call him for Hercules
That guy was like the Starbucks of Ancient Greece. Everywhere you turn--there he is.
The "Let's mock the goddess who already wants us dead," is exactly what the PJO demigods would do.
This is why I have a headcannon that when he became a god he changed his name to Hercules as it sounds familiar but doesn't give credit to your attempted assassin.
Life ain't easy for a boy named -Sue- Hera.
Poor Heracles...
Am I the only one who thought that the picture of Heracles was Godfrey and serosh?
My head canon now is that Alcmene was trying option 2 but Hera missinterpreted it as a mockery and thus continued to try and kill the child.
Alcaeus is a pretty cool name
I always thought that the second one in the video and that he became famous as an infant for managing to kill two snakes, so his parents were thanking hera for giving him the chance to become famous
All i saw was the jack the pumpkin king shirt
That's honestly a cool picture of Heracles
I keep seeing comments saying its pronounced hercules or is hercules the same person as heracles. well let me help the people wondering these questions, hercules is the roman/latin way to say and spell his name heracles is the greek way to say his name, and they are not different people they are the same.
If a Goddes wants you dead
It not about if it will happen
But when it will happen.
So why not go yolo with it why you can.
Thing is, not a single one of Hera's attempts to kill him worked.
I'm pretty sure either Marvel or DC mentioned at one point that their version of Hercules changed his name so as to not be associated with his mother
U may also call him kraven the hunter
I love your shirt lol
The meaning of Heracles’ name always made me wonder how different his life would’ve been if he had actually served Hera as a means of appeasing her, but tbh it probably just would’ve ended up with him being an antagonist for another demigod.
"DoNT yOu MeAn HeRCulEs?" Is a thing I always imagine hearing each time I hear heracles.
One version is that the people thought that Hera as the goddess of family protected the babe from harm and they named him to the glory of Hera hereafter
How in the hell do you fail to assassinate a baby
I would love the Nemian Lion skin.
Imagine being such a chad that A LITTERAL GODDESS tried to assasinate you while you were a CHILD, AND FAILED
I believe it was done for appeasement but received as mockery, it makes Hera's subsequent attacks make more sense. Like no matter what he does, how much he suffers, he still keeps that name so it's never enough for Hera because he's still parading around that name mocking her. Meanwhile there's no way in Hades Herc is changing his name, if this is what she does while he's trying to appease her imagine what she'd do if he discarded her name.
Waiting for the guy in the comments to go “I thought his name was Hercules”
Hercules is living today and he has a brother
So, what I’m hearing is, Heracles is the one that convinced everyone to call him Hercules-
Thats why hercules is a better name
"What's your name?" "My name? My name is 'I LIVED, BITCH'!"
Imagine growing up with the immortal wrath of a scorned goddess chasing you through out your whole life. Huh neat.
I love your shirt
Is that really what Heracles’ club looked like with the spikes?
Whenever I hear Heracles/Hercules I'd always like to imagine other words ending with "cles" to be pronounced like "Clease".
Tentaclease
Testaclease
Musclease
Miraclease
Etc.
😂
Sooo a man who was tricked by a god into killing his own family, and was given a title that will forever haunt him of that day.
No wonder the Ghost of Sparta initially tried talking him down in GOW3. He saw himself in him.
“How dare you not name your son after me!”
Who do you think 🤔 would win in a fight, Heracles or Samson? 💪
Hera the goddess, fails to kill someone who doesn’t know how to walk yet,
The namers: I see this as an ultimate glory to Hera
"This did not work" - The Mythology Guy
Zeus is cruel to not even protect Heracles
Even if he try he will get his butt hunted by Hera...
Thank you I didn't know this
Heracles is actually the great grandson of Perseus through alcaius who had amphitryon(stepfather) and through electryon who had alcmene(his mom)
so record of ragnarok did at least that good to mention his birth namee, but 12 labours being just stages of his volundr was interesting
TO BE FAIR
A GODDESS failed to assassinate a BABY
Kratos didnt fail to assassinate him in God Of War3
Could have been, Glory to her because she failed the murder attempt although she absolutely had to power to kill a mortal- idk lol
I did know this, but I was heard the version that he was breastfed by Hera (Hera did not know it was him ofc), and that's why it changed.
