With that kind of track record, it makes me think that the people who sent Theseus as a sacrifice to the minotaur weren't too worried for him.
Pretty sure he killed all those people on the journey to the minotaur.
@@vbvvv1653 he literally said before he even heard about the minotaur
"Yo we need to get rid of that fuckin minotaur"
Hmmmm. Oh I got JUST the sacrifice.
If I remember right he chose to fight the minotaur, he was a badass but he wasn't very bright and he got a lot of help from other mortals along the way.
Actually Theseus wasn't sacrificed to the Minotaur, he heard roomers of 14 people disappearing anualy, and decided to find out what was wrong, he was helped by the king's daughters Ariadne who knew about the Minotaur and how to get through the labyrinth. Ariadne fell in love with Theseus and helped him by giving him a ball of string so he doesn't get lost in the maze. After Theseus defeated the Minotaur he and Ariadne ran away on a boat, that night they stopped to rest at an island and he decided to abandon her there ASLEEP for NO REASON.
What always impressed me was the fact that Theseus wasn't a demigod like Perseus or Heracles, he was the son of a mortal king, and for the myths I've heard, didn't have much if any help from the Gods.
By the sounds of it there are versions where he's Poseidon's son, but there are others where he's apparently fully human.
@@jaschabull2365 Gotcha, that makes sense, I always heard the one where his father was the king and it never mentioned adoption.
One version is that Poseidon transformed into Aegeus to have sex with Aethra

"Not if Disney gives me credit for Theseus's achievements, muahaha!" - Heracles
but what about herculad?
The little guy who cheered Hercules on at the start of the movie?
@@notflamyne no the miniature hercules that says he’s his biggest fan
@@joeygreen8091Hercules and Heracles are the same person (I think) Hercules is his Roman name and Heracles is his Greek name
@@ditisubramanya6091 yes i understand that those are the same, I’m talking about the miniature version of him herculad
He and his bestie also kidnapped a young, unmarried Helen of Troy *before* it was cool, and attempted to kidnap Persephone from the Underworld which resulted in Hades trapping them there until Heracles came to save them.
Theseus was a major jerk 😂
And later his friend was killed by Kratos in God of War 3.
He also forced himself on the daughter of the Mr.Split people in half left her preggers, Stole the queen of the amazons left her preggers. Whooed the princesses of Minos, hooked up with one on and Island where he left her preggers, then married the other. Probably intentionally let his dad kill himself, and did probably more shady crap I cant even remember.
I always default to the most messed up version of mythology because the stuff we see as messed up was considered normal back in the day. It's more likely that the story was toned down rather than made worse.
@@caleblecrow2207 " he left her pregnant and married the other ". As far as I know, Ariadne had no children with Theseus while Phaedra had two sons with him
@@jessnalulila5709 theres dozens of versions of the story, the whole oral tradition thing tends to create some serious deviations depending on region. As I said, I tend to take the most morally messed up version as the oldest. Depending on which book you read, or version you found online I wouldn't be surprised if some of theseus's kids have debated existences. For example, the version I read in highschool from out mythology book had Theseus wrestle Hercules, which seems to be purely only in that book.
Ah yes, Hubirsm took the candle-waxed- madewings of Theseus gone fly back on the ground. Poetic aside tho do be like that with most old stories which is a blast to follow 🤣
I’m surprise he didn’t mention that 2 of those men listed are Theseus brothers via Poseidon ( Procrustes and Sciron )
I mean you can generally expect that a demigod who faces that many villains is going to run into a couple that are their siblings.
YOUR HONOR THEY ARE BROTHERS
Well, considering how the olympians treat each other sometimes it's not really a surprise they ended up trying to kill each other

Don’t forget, Theseus was sent to a kingdom as a death sentence. The king of that kingdom had a daughter that fell in love with him at first sight and gave him a sword and magical yarn to smuggle in so that he would survive the Minotaur. After he killed the Minotaur the king’s daughter begged him to take her with him and so he did. He headed back to Athens and dropped the princess off at an island called Naxos. She was devastated and cried for a while before the god of wine (Dionysus) found her, asked her what was wrong, and eventually married her and turned her immortal. Theseus was a hero but messed up quite badly
Theseus is one of my favorite Greek heroes. Whether he is a normal human or son of Poseidon, depending on the myth you know, he did a lot to get where he was
Here’s something else: He also tried to kidnap a still young Helen of Troy and help his brother kidnap Persephone.
Helen Of SPARTA was the greatest heiress in the entire Hellenic world; of course she was a kidnapping target.
This story instantly came to mind when I read the title
Im glad i found you. Once i was obsessed with greek mythology and you just bring back good memories
I new about these i am Greek myself and is very involved in Greek mythology
Keep up the great work :D
bro i love your videos im subbed because im also into mythology and i knew only about greek and norse but i know most about greek. And your videos are very entertaining and teaching cause when i watch them i learn more about other mythologys than greek and norse. Btw my favorite greek god has to be Ares
in the myth I heard, Theseus killed the minotaur because it begged him too, it couldn't live with itself and was saying in a hoarse voice "Kill Me" , also Heracles inspired Theseus to do all those things, the two were related
Wait he killed the stretching bed guy?
Yes
I love that Procrustes is even darker than the fact that he stretched people to death.
If I remember well he would give tall people small beds & vice versa. Then when they would complain he would stretch out the short guests to death so that they fit in the bed & he would amputate the legs of the tall guests at the knee.
Your videos are good for Greek mythology learning I’m still learning everything about it
i like this. I am of the opinion that you fit this format of video pretty well.
Technoblade has some new stories to tell
I am greek and love history and mythology and your videos are really good . Cheers

Its so cool to see that reading percy jackson payed off
I heard about Sciron & Procrustes b4 but the other 1s r all new. I 💓 ur channel man. Totally binge watching right now 💋
Procrustes had a bed-like furniture that would force anyone in his way to lay on it. If the person was too short he would stretch their limbs so they could fit on the bed and if they were too tall he would cut off their limbs so they would fit.
Oh god i Remember Procrustes from Percy Jackson. Was pretty young when i first read it. Let's just say, I didn't like my bed all that much afterwards
I learned greek mythology last year for a quarter of school, learned about 4 out of 6 of these guys! :D

Kind of shines a different light on the Braggart Theseus in "Hades." This dude was the friggin BATMAN of his day!
Man I can't believe he was exiled
K so I new some of these… but only some 😂nice job man
Procrustes, the first Serial Killer.
Greek/Roman mythology needs to be started up again, i want to see more stories
Sciron was killed the same way he killed other people. Prometheus kicked him off the cliff but you forgot that they didn't die because of the fall . There was a giant turtle under the cliff that would eat the people who fell down. But the turtle didn't eat sciron because he was too evil.
Ah the 8 labours of Theseus
That monstrous pig was trained by a grandma who enjoyed the sufferings of the villagers.
Only knew him from the paradox. Interesting video
I thought the name Theseus was familiar...Technoblade ways says that name for some reason ?
But well, I'm learning lots of things again, thanks a lot!
I like Theseus's early adventures because they are so peculiar, especially Procrustes.

The inn keeper thing: I think he gave his victims the choice between a bed that was too short and one that was too big. If they choose the short one he would chop there limbs off so that they fit in the bed. If they choose the one that was to big he would stretch them until they got torn in half.

My dad used to work at an inn when he was in his twenties. He had a good relationship with the innkeeper and said innkeeper bought my dad a sign to hang on his office door. What was on the sign? 'Procrustes' Office'.

A good quarter of Greece's monsters could be described as "big angry pig".
How have I not heard of all these?!
I'm proud of my good memory. I remember learning this in 7th grade. (I'm currently a Sophomore)
I loved when we learned mythology in school. But sadly this year I'm only learning American History.
The fact that he was full mortal, and got little help from the gods made this even better
Wow, I never though Theseus was more specialize with serial killer than with monsters.
I just love mythology it's always been interesting 2 me
Sciron is probably where they got the inspiration for Patches from Dark Souls and Bloodborne
I like the version where he teams up with the Minotaur to take down the mad king
Everytime someone mentions Theseus I think of that passage from House of Leaves.
In Greek we learnt those in 4th grade, I still remember the nightmares
