This song is the definition of perfection, and one of the best songs Oasis ever did. From the little intro solo from 0:14 to 0:30, to the way Liam sings the "So what's the matter with you? Sing me something new" line, to Noel's backing vocals when they sing the chorus, this song showcases the true genius behind Oasis. Musically and lyrically

I listened to it for the first time at the age of 57. Tears naturally came to my eyes as memories of my childhood and my anger towards the world came back to me. It was as if I was watching my anxious young self, awakened by the guitar and being led by the melody. Before I knew it, I was singing while looking at the lyrics. When I die, I want to die singing this song.

This is one of Oasis' best.
The Liam and Noel harmonies. The riffs in the verses and refrains.
The synchronisation of the drum/guitar to the shots of the band.
And the power of the lyrics:
"There is one thing I can never give you, my heart will never be a home"

December 1997. I was in high school and I really loved this song.
My uncle gave me a Sony radio player, and 10 blank cassettes, so I could record my favorite music from the radio. The 10 cassettes had all kind of music, but every one of them had this song in it. So, no matter which cassette i was listening, Stand by Me appeared over there, with the typical phrase in between: "You are listening Future 90.5fm"
After some time my dad recognized that this song was everywhere, and asked me: "who are they? I guess you like them". "Yes dad, they are Oasis, they are british, and they are so cool. I love this song". He asked me what was the name of the song, and i told him: "Stand By Me". "And it's played by future 90.5fm" he said, and I laughed a lot.
After some other time after that, one day he went to me room, and he said: "I have a surprise for you". "What is it?" So he took out of his pocket a small plastic box, and he passed it to me, and I couldn´t believe it. It was the cassette of "Be Here Now", the Oasis album, where Stand by Me is recorded. 100% original, with no radio ads in it. I was so happy, and I couldn't understand: "How did you knew the album?". He said he asked one of my friends what was the name of the album.
I played that cassette a million times. It had some other masterpieces as Don't Go Away, All Around the World, and some little pearls as Do You Know What I Mean and Fade In-Out.
I still have that cassete, although, I have to recognize, I haven't listen to it since a really long time, because I listen in digital now. But it was a complete and full milestone in my life. I still have my dad with me. He is older with a lot of gray hair, but he still remembers that day. "Do you remember when I gave you that Oasis cassette? It was pretty cool, huh?"
Of course it is. I got a little rock in my eyes writing this. I just wanted to remember that time writing this, and now i have to hide from my coworkers so don't see my eyes wet.
    I love you dad.

Discovered this masterpiece 5 years ago, I think the song was airing on the radio, I immediately felt touched by the song, the melody, the lyrics, everything meant so much, and I was listening to it on repeat while I was going to high school, while eating or during a pause hour or while waiting for one of my teachers. Then I forgot about it until this year, I was like looking for songs in my liked titles on Spotify and saw the song was still there, kinda waiting. So I listened to it again, and my obsession with this song started again. It's been like 3 months I've been listening to it on repeat and I think this time I'm sure I won't forget about it anymore, and this is my favourite Oasis song so far. Of course, Oasis is a great band with so much other beautiful songs. But this one is THE MASTERPIECE. Don't understand why the album didn't work and why Noel thinks it's a shitty album because NO THIS IS NOOOOT. Moreover, the camera video show the date September 20th... my birthday date, Coincidence.

    0:31 [Verse 1]
Made a meal and threw it up on Sunday
I've got a lot of things to learn
Said I would and I'll be leaving one day
Before my heart starts to burn
    0:53 [Bridge]
So what's the matter with you?
    Sing me something new
Don't you know the cold and wind and rain don't know
They only seem to come and go away
    1:16 [Verse 2]
Times are hard when things have got no meaning
I've found a key upon the floor
Maybe you and I will not believe in
The things we find behind the door
    1:38 [Bridge]
So what's the matter with you?
    Sing me something new
Don't you know the cold and wind and rain don't know
They only seem to come and go away
    2:02 [Chorus]
Stand by me, nobody knows the way it's gonna be
Stand by me, nobody knows the way it's gonna be
Stand by me, nobody knows the way it's gonna be
    Stand by me, nobody knows
Yeah, nobody knows, the way it's gonna be
    2:56 [Verse 3]
If you're leaving will you take me with you?
I'm tired of talking on my phone
There is one thing I can never give you
My heart will never be your home
    3:18 [Bridge]
So what's the matter with you?
    Sing me something new
Don't you know the cold and wind and rain don't know
They only seem to come and go away
    3:41 [Chorus 1]
Stand by me, nobody knows the way it's gonna be
Stand by me, nobody knows the way it's gonna be
Stand by me, nobody knows the way it's gonna be
    Stand by me, nobody knows
Yeah, nobody knows, the way it's gonna be
    4:33 [Bridge 2]
The way it's gonna be, yeah
    Maybe I can see, yeah
Don't you know the cold and wind and rain don't know
They only seem to come and go away (hey, hey)
    4:58 [Chorus 2]
Stand by me, nobody knows the way it's gonna be
Stand by me, nobody knows the way it's gonna be
Stand by me, nobody knows the way it's gonna be

An excellent music vid about turmoil and heartbreak, as well as a clever subversion of expectations since at first you assume that people are attacking each other in the streets and running away from the police, but are actually trying to save others from an insane biker. Also the song is brilliant and memorable too, it's Oasis after all ;).

I love the song, but the video itself is a masterpiece. As journalist, I can tell that this is a perfect example of what journalism is. You can tell different stories with the same data. Depends of what you wanna say, you choose the order of the information and what people could understand.

Good for you! You have good music sensibilities. :-) I was born in the '80s but, alas, I only remember experiencing '90s and 2000s-onward music while I was growing up.
Still, I learned about a lot of the '80s music from a TV show named TOTP2 (a music archive show) that used to be aired on BBC2. I love Depeche Mode, New Order, Adam&The Ants, The Smiths, The Cure, The Eurthymics, Wham! and Erasure.

Liam and noel singing together - check
    brass - check
    strings -check
pretty much original line up - check
    good lyrics - check
    sounds good acoustic - check

Jordan Jamison you never know. The original Guns n Roses line up for together for a major tour this year. Meaning Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKeggan, minus Izzy Stadler and Steven Adler made a few appearances to drum for a few songs... Never thought the others would ever get over Axl's shit and all the crap he put the band through.. They Gallagher brothers may surprise us.

Even now...Noel can still hit his notes.....Liam Cant!!. It looks like they may come back.......the die hard fans will pay for the tickets.....the true fans like myself wont. I saw them in 1997 in Stirling Scotland, i've followed their separate careers.....they will NEVER reach this level of perfection again. They will get more millions...the TRUE fans will be gutted. I truly hope i'm wrong.
