The technical performance really isn’t a problem with the Switch hardware. As Infamous said it’s much more of an issue of optimization on Gamefreaks part.
I had virtually the same response to getting to Kanto as Infamous when I streamed HeartGold on my channel! The game doesn't do anything to dramatize going to Kanto as a cool and interesting opportunity. It expects the novelty of the gimmick alone to do all the heavy lifting, so if the idea of going to another region alone doesn't hook you the game doesn't do anything extra to get those people
Exactly it, Kanto alone isn’t an incentive push for late players especially if you played in a Kanto many times over. But I can see at that time it being huge.
I think South America is too similar to Spain and Australia has too much desert, but they don’t have to incorporate all the desert. idk tho this makes me think that it’s going to be another European North American, Chinese or Japanese region. Australia is still possible, but I think I would rule out South America this time around because it’s too similar to Spain.

Like adding some kind of boat access or surf access to get to a region of Antarctica for the snow, new Zealand forests and mountains, and Australian desert? Honestly a region based on Hong Kong would be pretty cool. You got all the islands plus Kawloon and the new territories. With it being a major city with an international appeal, I think it would be ideal for a pokemon region
I’d love for Gen 10 to be a love letter to the fans. Bring in every pokemon we’ve ever seen. Bring back a postgame. Make legends and mythicals interesting, give them a story plot to go with them or at least hide them in places where it’s rewarding to find them. Make every single pokemon shiny unlocked, and for the love of god put it on a console that can run this game at the way it needs to be. As far as locations go: Australia, Africa, or some kind of USA collaboration with wild lands between NY and LA obviously not as big but to get the point.

I think if GF did a region based off of Greece, they have SO MANY THINGS to work off of. As Infamous was saying get ALL those Greek Gods/Deities, plus so many ICONIC locations. But due to this being Gen 10, a MASSIVE milestone for Pokemon I feel like I can't put my finger on somewhere that would be JUST as big a deal as a Gen 10 game. BUT if I had to put out one IDEA, I think if they did a region thats based off of the entire world but its one giant region like Pangea. They literally take inspirations from all over the world but the shape is based of what Pangea looked like

After this year's Worlds, they have been hinting and teasing that the new region for Gen 10 is going to be based on the West Coast of the United States (California, along with Nevada, Oregon, Washington), but we will officially find out during Pokémon Day 2026 (the 30th Anniversary).

I'd like to see a mini pokemon Olympics, especially now Paris have had the Olympics lol. BUT I'd love a greek theme region for a titan/ mount Olympus section of the game. AND be able to customise character more and buy outfits, accessories for pokemon. I'd also LOVE a totally new Dex worth of pkm. And only introduce other gen pkm in the dlc. Like have the odd sprinkle of past gen pkm for obvious reasons but I hate that they fill half a Dex with pkm that already exist. Would also love another storyline with the unown
The Netherlands was one of the only countries allowed to trade with Japan for a longggg time. Dutch "delft" is actually a result of the trade with Japan. Japan also has Huis Ten Bosch which is a whole ass Dutch theme park. In a skyscraper in Unova there is a party with a bunch of foreign speakers, the Germanic language found there is the only region we haven't explored yet.
I mean... Netherlands makes so much sense, also speaking from a historical standpoint, not only with Japan, but also with the Unova tie in (New York being called New Amsterdam first). Even if we get Australia as a region in gen 10, we kinda have to get a lot of reference to the Netherlands either way, since i also think New Zealand will either be featured in the base game or as a DLC area. Also, you cannot forget the massive hints in and outside the games either. In-Game hints in ScarVio are Player house has 2 pictures. One with two windmills on them, but there is also a picture with white houses and something that seems like a church in the background, which looks awfully similair to a street in Maastricht (But this one is the weakest hint by far). The surname Hassel found its origins in the Netherlands/Belgium regions Artazon is obviously a big hint (With the windmill, flowers and art). Quaxly being mentioned as not being from Paldea and brought in from another region. Quaxly is based on the Crested Duck, which was brough to Europe on Dutch trading vessels, but can also be based on the Brazilian Crested Duck). BDSP has that Starry Nights picture from Van Gogh Then for outside game hints Masude visited Netherlands Van Gogh/Pokemon Connect Pikachu Around the World plushie set, which features a Dutch Pikachu (Dressed in old Dutch attire, include clogs and tulip). Also has a Chinese Pikachu. Those 2 are the only in the set that don't have regions tied to them yet.
I mean I would love it, but the Netherlands is very flat, and as a adventures Pokémon game you need some height and some different diverse places, I could honestly see it work if they put some of Belgium in there also, so it can have the caves and heights at the South side of the region. I wouldn’t know if it would be a good fit otherwise

Points to add about the potential of a China based region, the government of China has become more accessible, even the tcg market in China has exploded the past two years and the pokemon company has been printing through all their sets extremely quickly getting China caught up to the rest of the world as far as the trading card game. The quality of their cards being printed is even better than what we have in the states. China + Pokémon is a eventuality at this point, something that we could never really say with confidence just 5-10 years ago.
Would a 3d reimagining of Kanto actually be executed in a way that felt satisfactory, that I’m unsure of. What made Kanto so great was the exploration, the free feeling of going into every building, every cave dungeon, talking to all the npc who give us lore or items incrementally making our team stronger. That’s something that is lost in the new methodology crafting modern Pokémon games. I fear Kanto round 3 would be lackluster unless they revamp how they tell the stories and want the player to tackle the game. Kanto as is, does NOT have enough going on plot wise to hold the audience unless we get much more plot exposition or a different timeline, Kanto 20 years in the future would be cool.
Me too. I want a region based on Africa and another one on South America, actually, I would avoid adapting European countries for a while now. My picks on a region based on Africa would be: 1- Egypt 🇪🇬 (potential to be the most rich in lore and history) 2- Marrocos 🇲🇦 3- South Africa 🇿🇦 mixed with Gana 🇬🇭, Angola 🇦🇴 and Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 in one big region. Picks for South American region: 1- Brazil 🇧🇷 (potential to be the most rich in different biomas, cities and Pokémon diversity) 2- Argentina 🇦🇷 and Uruguai 🇺🇾 mixed. 3- Colombia 🇨🇴 , Equador 🇪🇨, Chile 🇨🇱 and Peru 🇵🇪 in one huge region.
Im just waiting for a Puerto Rico region 🇵🇷 we have everything.. beaches, cities, mountains, a rainforest. We also have various landmarks, a spain fort on the capital, a bioluminescent beach, etc. And dont forget the animals, the Coqui frog, Puertorican Parrot. This is the biggest littlest island ✨
I wish to see the Japanese regions returning. I can take 2D anime graphics, and separate overworlds and battlefields for immersive gameplay and content. Pokémon is fine as Pokémon, no matter how Japanese it is. I got used to calling Pokémon, the characters, and the places by their Japanese names ever since around the time Wings have been renamed to Feathers to match their Japanese names and translations.
Masuda not being at Gamefreak anymore, doesn't mean a whole lot imo, since the Pokemon Company is involved with the marketing of the games, so they can scout out a lot of marketing places in a country they want to have a game based on, but they can also give Gamefreak some locations they deem fit for a Pokemon location (Like, i can see Pokemon Company wanting Amsterdam/Rotterdam/Delft and The Hague featured 100% and if they want something fairy related, the Themepark Efteling is a good shout as well). There is also the thing that for a Netherlands region, they don't have to travel to the Netherlands all the time, since they can get windmill inspiration from the biggest themepark in Japan, based around the Netherlands, Huis ten Bosch. However, the biggest hint at 2 regions for me personally, lies in the Pikachu Around the World plushie set. When the plushie set came out (In 2016 i believe), it already featured 2 countries that had regions (US and Japan), with a third country represented in that set being UK, which got the Galar region afterwards. We have a Chinese Pikachu Plushie in that set, and a Dutch Pikachu Plushie, which even is dressed in old Dutch attire, with Clogs and a Tulip. It would be super random if the UK gets a Pokemon region after the set comes out, but both China and the Netherlands don't. They can also do super interesting stuff with the Netherlands, thinking about it. Its not only the art what Lumi mentions, but the Netherlands was the country that created the CD/DVD, so as far as storyline go, they can go with the TM/TR/HM was first made here... which can tie in the Legends Arceus and its scrolls, due to the history between the Netherlands and Japan. There was all this talk about Unova remakes this year (Which is obviously not gonna happen). Gen 10 would most likely gives us that remakes/legends game and then Netherlands is perfect for that as well, considering the history between New York and the Netherlands. Historically, for the Japanese as well, making a region out of the Netherlands makes a lot of sense. However, while Dutch myself, i do hope gen 10 is not Netherlands (Or Europe in general, because we just got 3 regions back-to-back in Europe - counting Legends Z-A as well already), although if we get Europe, Netherlands probably is next in line due to all the hints. I personally hope we go to Australia, which can also give us a future Netherlands region reference, as the Dutch were the first to discover Australia + a lot of Australian places being named after Dutch people and if we get Australia, new Zealand probabaly is going to be a DLC region as well (And New Zealand is named after the Dutch province of Zeeland, while Tasmania is named after Abel Tasman, a Dutch explorer).
as a greek i would love to focus on mainland for the base game and the islands for dlc. the greek vibes and true experience comes in the greek mainland. Islands tends to lose some of the countrys culture
A minotaur would be cool, let that mono type fighting Tauros turn into that. One thing about these past European based regions have all felt like they’ve been missing the exploration feel that previous entries provided. Feels like they’ve missed many opportunities to make us feel like we’ve explored galar or paldea. The DLCs have helped but the core games feel too bland we need more dungeons & hidden Easter eggs.
I want Thailand so bad there locations are beautiful it be so fun to play Pokémon game there or China or austrilla and yea infamous trainer Greece would be fun it in top 5 😊😊. Game Freak, please do a Brazil Pokémon region. Whe hava all the climates, biomes that only exists here, a lot of cultural background, and also we have a splendorous fauna and flora.
For me they've really missed the mark with their European choices in demonstrating contrast, variety and "biomes" (their word not mine). Kalos: should have been France, the Lowlands and the HRE/Germanic areas. Galar: The WHOLE of the UK & Ireland, but also including nods to Orkney/Shetlands and their Norse inspiration. Paldea: Before they confirmed Iberia, I thought it might be a mix of Spain/Portugal/Southern Italy and Greece and it's islands - especially as it was touted as so open world. Alternatively they could have leant more into the Islamic impact on the south of the Iberian Peninsula - think Murcia, Sevilla, Andalucia in general....even maybe with a hint of Morroco (Ceuta etc.) Whilst Copperajah and Fuecoco for e.g. are cool designs and reference their empires.... I also feel both (as British) - it's an ugly period of history that shouldn't be celebrated - and does a massive disservice to India and Latin America respectively. India is an obvious candidate considering it will have the largest population within a few years and has a long, diverse history. Then there's whole continents of culture and history to be explored in both Africa and South America. China also would be a brilliant pick but the only one I can see being a political no go ATM sadly. Let's leave Europe, America and Japan to when they have the staff, competency and imagination 🙄 to be built upon properly for revisits.
Nintendo has been making moves in Brazil lately. I could see a brazilian or south american region be made in the near future. If not gen qo, then gen 11.

Gamefreak is a triple A video game company they definitely need to do a lot better than the slop we get, if not we might as well just play fan games, pokerougue and 3rd party Pokemon games. Totally get it, as someone who talks, plays and make content on Pokémon I keep my expectation low so if they exceed them, it’s awesome if they don’t, it’s fine. I agree them being a BILLION DOLLAR company & being a Triple AAA Game, they should produce better games atleast for main series but the issues is honestly fans. Just because their games are they way they are, doesn’t mean people aren’t buy. If anything they’re outselling the previous gen. Huge part of this is also the fan, we’re the problems but I hear you, we should expect better from them, so I’m optimistic with Gen 10 and ZA.

People say the old and ugly characters are based on how the people with the said traits are finally able to get the education they could not get as kids as Spain. There is the problem. It is basically trying to make fantasy like reality where it is supposed to be the opposite as fun escapism. That is also why the school setting makes no sense in an open world because schools are literally places you don't mess around in like you are told to stay in your given seat until time is up.

Dream gen 10 for me though: pacific west of the US, Canada, & Mexico + DLC is alola since it's a 5 hour flight west from SFO or LAX airport

I fear Kanto round 3 would be lackluster unless they revamp how they tell the stories and want the player to tackle the game. Kanto as is, does NOT have enough going on plot wise to hold the audience unless we get much more plot exposition or a different timeline, Kanto 20 years in the future would be cool.
I do think they should go back to Japan for Gen 10. And id love Red to be involved!

Me too. I want a region based on Africa and another one on South America, actually, I would avoid adapting European countries for a while now.
My picks on a region based on Africa would be:
1- Egypt 🇪🇬 (potential to be the most rich in lore and history)
2- Marrocos 🇲🇦
3- South Africa 🇿🇦 mixed with Gana 🇬🇭, Angola 🇦🇴 and Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 in one big region.
Picks for South American region:
1- Brazil 🇧🇷 (potential to be the most rich in different biomas, cities and Pokémon diversity)
2- Argentina 🇦🇷 and Uruguai 🇺🇾 mixed.
3- Colombia 🇨🇴 , Equador 🇪🇨, Chile 🇨🇱 and Peru 🇵🇪 in one huge region.
With the whole global Bluey craze, they could have a red and blue heeler pokemon in an Australian region.
Im just waiting for a Puerto Rico region 🇵🇷 we have everything.. beaches, cities, mountains, a rainforest. We also have various landmarks, a spain fort on the capital, a bioluminescent beach, etc. And dont forget the animals, the Coqui frog, Puertorican Parrot. This is the biggest littlest island ✨
I wish to see the Japanese regions returning. I can take 2D anime graphics, and separate overworlds and battlefields for immersive gameplay and content. Pokémon is fine as Pokémon, no matter how Japanese it is. I got used to calling Pokémon, the characters, and the places by their Japanese names ever since around the time Wings have been renamed to Feathers to match their Japanese names and translations.

I’ve been wanting a Pokemon region inspired by Egypt since like gen 3
Masuda not being at Gamefreak anymore, doesn't mean a whole lot imo, since the Pokemon Company is involved with the marketing of the games, so they can scout out a lot of marketing places in a country they want to have a game based on, but they can also give Gamefreak some locations they deem fit for a Pokemon location (Like, i can see Pokemon Company wanting Amsterdam/Rotterdam/Delft and The Hague featured 100% and if they want something fairy related, the Themepark Efteling is a good shout as well). There is also the thing that for a Netherlands region, they don't have to travel to the Netherlands all the time, since they can get windmill inspiration from the biggest themepark in Japan, based around the Netherlands, Huis ten Bosch.
However, the biggest hint at 2 regions for me personally, lies in the Pikachu Around the World plushie set. When the plushie set came out (In 2016 i believe), it already featured 2 countries that had regions (US and Japan), with a third country represented in that set being UK, which got the Galar region afterwards. We have a Chinese Pikachu Plushie in that set, and a Dutch Pikachu Plushie, which even is dressed in old Dutch attire, with Clogs and a Tulip. It would be super random if the UK gets a Pokemon region after the set comes out, but both China and the Netherlands don't.
They can also do super interesting stuff with the Netherlands, thinking about it. Its not only the art what Lumi mentions, but the Netherlands was the country that created the CD/DVD, so as far as storyline go, they can go with the TM/TR/HM was first made here... which can tie in the Legends Arceus and its scrolls, due to the history between the Netherlands and Japan.
There was all this talk about Unova remakes this year (Which is obviously not gonna happen). Gen 10 would most likely gives us that remakes/legends game and then Netherlands is perfect for that as well, considering the history between New York and the Netherlands.
Historically, for the Japanese as well, making a region out of the Netherlands makes a lot of sense.
However, while Dutch myself, i do hope gen 10 is not Netherlands (Or Europe in general, because we just got 3 regions back-to-back in Europe - counting Legends Z-A as well already), although if we get Europe, Netherlands probably is next in line due to all the hints.
I personally hope we go to Australia, which can also give us a future Netherlands region reference, as the Dutch were the first to discover Australia + a lot of Australian places being named after Dutch people and if we get Australia, new Zealand probabaly is going to be a DLC region as well (And New Zealand is named after the Dutch province of Zeeland, while Tasmania is named after Abel Tasman, a Dutch explorer).
as a greek i would love to focus on mainland for the base game and the islands for dlc. the greek vibes and true experience comes in the greek mainland. Islands tends to lose some of the countrys culture
I hope there’s a Legends Kanto game for Gen 10. That’d be a fun way to return to the region but with a new story

One thing about these past European based regions have all felt like they’ve been missing the exploration feel that previous entries provided. Feels like they’ve missed many opportunities to make us feel like we’ve explored galar or paldea. The DLCs have helped but the core games feel too bland we need more dungeons & hidden Easter eggs.

For me they've really missed the mark with their European choices in demonstrating contrast, variety and "biomes" (their word not mine).
Kalos: should have been France, the Lowlands and the HRE/Germanic areas.
Galar: The WHOLE of the UK & Ireland, but also including nods to Orkney/Shetlands and their Norse inspiration.
Paldea: Before they confirmed Iberia, I thought it might be a mix of Spain/Portugal/Southern Italy and Greece and it's islands - especially as it was touted as so open world.
Alternatively they could have leant more into the Islamic impact on the south of the Iberian Peninsula - think Murcia, Sevilla, Andalucia in general....even maybe with a hint of Morroco (Ceuta etc.)
Whilst Copperajah and Fuecoco for e.g. are cool designs and reference their empires.... I also feel both (as British)
- it's an ugly period of history that shouldn't be celebrated
- and does a massive disservice to India and Latin America respectively.
India is an obvious candidate considering it will have the largest population within a few years and has a long, diverse history.
Then there's whole continents of culture and history to be explored in both Africa and South America.
China also would be a brilliant pick but the only one I can see being a political no go ATM sadly.
Let's leave Europe, America and Japan to when they have the staff, competency and imagination 🙄 to be built upon properly for revisits.

Gamefreak is a triple A video game company they definitely need to do a lot better than the slop we get, if not we might as well just play fan games, pokerougue and 3rd party Pokemon games. Especially when they don’t fix it
Totally get it, as someone who talks, plays and make content on Pokémon I keep my expectation low so if they exceed them, it’s awesome if they don’t, it’s fine. I agree them being a BILLION DOLLAR company & being a Triple AAA Game, they should produce better games atleast for main series but the issues is honestly fans. Just because their games are they way they are, doesn’t mean people aren’t buy. If anything they’re outselling the previous gen. Huge part of this is also the fan, we’re the problems but I hear you, we should expect better from them, so I’m optimistic with Gen 10 and ZA.

People say the old and ugly characters are based on how the people with the said traits are finally able to get the education they could not get as kids as Spain. There is the problem. It is basically trying to make fantasy like reality where it is supposed to be the opposite as fun escapism. That is also why the school setting makes no sense in an open world because schools are literally places you don't mess around in like you are told to stay in your given seat until time is up.
