This is BY FAR the best video on the Datacolor calibrators! Thank you so much!
I just bought one of these yesterday. Simple to use.
Thanks Ed, you always have very informative vids.
Awesome thanks i need to get that x elite. Been having some issues lately.
Thanks! The screen tilt so simple, yet I was wondering if I was missing something to get it flush.
Awesome video! Thank you!!!
Thanks for this video!
Hello there! I do both photography and video editing. This is how we calibrate for print proofing, but what about for us video editors that want an accurate rec 709 target? I don't see any information on this, and I have had issues with the colours being off and the Gamma being off by like 25% when from my monitor (in my NLE) to after youtube conversion. Apparently this is possible with this device (the elite), but you demonstrate the procedure for matching for printing, which I am familiar with. It works really great for making photo proofs, but this is not a rec709 targeted workflow.
Purchased! Thanks for a great video!
So once I hit quit, why does the color drop out??? Is this happening to you as well?
Question....what model# of LG monitor are you using and are you happy with it and have you had any problems with it?
Will this work on a laptop that only has brightness adjustment and nothing else?
Nice video. I see we got about the same results...but both of us only have about 75% accuracy to adobeRGB. Isn't that the standard for photography? I have played with it...but that's the best I can do. Do I need a different monitor?
How do I connect this with USB-C port? Does it come with an adaptor or something like that?
I bought one yesterday 23-04-22 and I have issues with matching my stationary monitor with my laptop monitor. The white does not look white and the last stage where you match the yellow color really show how different of a color each monitor produce even though they are calibrated. Both of the displayes are of the same brand and are new premium monitors.
Hi ed.i'm trying to calibrate my monitor number two but when i'm at the last part of calibration the progrma window skip automatically on monitor one. what am I doing worng?
Great walkthrough video. I use dual monitors. Although they are the same make and model I have noticed that they are slightly different in brightness and color. Can I use this to calibrate both monitors to be somewhat consistently the same?
Yes it should definitely help. I've had two different monitor brands in the past for a dual setup, and I had a really hard time getting them to match before I got a SpyderX. I can't say this made them PERFECTLY match, but it was a lot better than trying to manually dial in the monitor settings. Some monitors will still have a difference if the display panel is a different type (LCD, LED, OLED, etc) or if the screens are matte vs glossy or whatever other physical differences there are.
How do you know 6500K is the white point of your minitor? Shouldn't you measure first the whitepoint?
Why elite? Will the pro work just as good?
Thanks for that video! Really helpful. You kept reminding me of Hayden Christensen :-D You look just like him.
Will this also be helpful on Mac?
Hello, I usually use low brightness to prevent eye stress.. how can I force program to use my desidered brightness to calibrate colors? If reset the setting at default my LG is waaay too high in brightness for my taste, as a starting point. On most video about LG calibration with default settings brightness were achieved around 80, too high. Here I can see some options but don't understand how much can I work with the values. The target value showned in the video is the one defined by you for a particular reason?
I'm looking for SpyderX pro, but want to know things in advice, if possibile or not. Don't want to use then a calibrated monitor with crazy brightness then. :) Thank You
Considering I'll use the "pro" software and not "Elite" with the Spyder Pro, cheap version.
stupid question :D it suggest target bright according to the room reading.
Hi, in the calibration process it asks to match the brightness of the monitor with the recommended brightness in the program. So at 6:53 you can see the method for lowering the brightness. I just used the recommended brightness settings which for my monitor can occasionally feel a little too low. So I brighten it up a bit, but I also have a tendency to edit in different lighting conditions near a window. So if it's midnight with a yellow lamp on, maybe I'll darken it a bit. If it's midday with my window wide open, I'll raise it up a bit.
@@EdRickerVlogs thank you!
@@EdRickerVlogs I've last question :) my monitor has 95% p3 coverage, but no srgb mode. It has rec709 mode which has to be similar, can I start to calibrate the monitor using this setting instead of the default settings of the monitor? Isn't more easy to work around srgb gamut for general purpose monitor? Photo and video editing.
P3 gamut even calibrated can make some trouble using different programs and not profiled apps in Windows afaik.
I wish I knew the answer to that! Sounds like a SpyderX support question to me. Here's their support page. spyderx.datacolor.com/contact/
Does it calibrate the colours inside Windows? Or is it using it's own software to modify things? If I was to calibrate someone else's monitor, would it stay calibrated if I removed the Spider software?
It creates a calibration profile on your computer, so you can remove the Spyder and the software will still be running on your computer. You can calibrate multiple computers this way from the same Spyder.
i just used this on my two desktop monitors in the same room and the result is completely different.. anyone know why?
I am new to the Spyder X (just setting mine up for the first time now) so I am still learning about it. But I do know that the ambient light brightness and angle/source/direction can impact results. Is it possible that one of your monitors is closer to a brighter source of ambient light than the other?
Because it isn’t good
Can this be used on an oled screen laptop?
I think so!
More like a TV screen than a computer screen
So it won't work with the new iMac because there is a USB-C only! The one thing I hate about Apple is they are expensive as hell then make you but tons of accessories to run it!
The Spider X Pro and Elite are the same. The only difference is the software. Since the software is crap and we're better off using DisplayCAL, just buy the Pro X.
