Reparing a Kenwood Chef kitchen machine where the magic smoke has been released. Sadly I forgot to turn on the camera so the last part is a bit fast ending
Thanks for he video: my wife had the magic smoke from the unit, I took it to my workshop, turned it on and ....ran OK, no smoke!. Maybe she ran it too long (20minutes on top speed). If it happens again, I now know what the problem is likely to be. Many thanks Mr tesla!
Search for 'rifa capacitor' on UA-cam and the problems associated with them from a certain era. These have just failed in mine and were a lot more burnt than in this video. Incidentally I was pulsing the mixer to incorporate a bunch of fresh flour when it happened. Easy enough to replace and yes I would definitely repair as these are good quality repairable machines that will go on and on.
I've got the magic motor shims, I dismantled the motor to oil the bearing felt pads and redress the commutator but three shims dropped out and I can't find an exploded view of the A901 motor components. might have to get a broken motor and dismantle it to see which order the parts are in.
Maybe the motor thermal overheat protection have tripped? It can be the triac gone open circuit, but it is not so likely It can also be a break in the power cord
Remove the logo cover. There is a retaining clip that fits into a cut on the shaft. The dial has a spring beneath it. Push the dial inwards (aligning with the tabs) and slip the retaining clip onto shaft. Replace the logo cover.
Not sure if I have the same problem as doubledark2, but in my case the black outer control knob (the one with the logo) is attached to the inner white plastic speed control round piece (i.e., the one that moves the lever and flips the switch), BUT that white piece is not attached to the machine in any way. Can't figure out what's supposed to hold that white plastic piece in place. Is the shaft supposed to (somehow) lock in to hole in the machine body or is there supposed to be some kind of retaining clip (again, not the clip that holds the white and black pieces together, but one that may hold the white piece onto the machine). Totally puzzled as to what is missing or broken. Help? Tnx!

They can overheat if you lose the rubber feet because no air can then circulate from below.

Do you need to add oil or grease to the mixer to keep it maintained?
how heavy is this unit when compared to something like a kitchenaid?
These are also quite heavy due to the quality build and metal body.
I have a K201. It does not work. Any suggestion on how to check circuit board? Motor seems good. Continuity on windings ok. Thanks.
Good job ☺
I ran mine on 4...maybe for 5 minutes and it just stopped..no smoke no smell..just stop...what do you think is the problem

It can also be a break in the power cord
With plenty on face book market for around £25 (uk) is it worth repairing them.?
As with most small motors would the brushes not need changing.
Wish you had shown how to remove and install new capacitors

What type of kenwood mixer is this!?
I think it is a A901D
It would be the a901 series model. There is little difference and this must be the chef than the major line
how did you fix the knob on the side?
You need to remove the logo and behind it there should be a screw that holds the knob in
@@MrTesla1337 no screw on my one!

@@michaelklupsch6820 tried all this but the knob still pops off. Thanks anyways
