    Why is it hard to fit a washing machine belt? The washing machine drive belt replacement process can be tricky, which is why eSpares are here to show you some tips on what to do if you are having trouble fitting a washing machine belt.
    Sometimes, when replacing the drive belt in your washing machine, the washing machine belt can seem too small. Fortunately, this video guide will show you how to fit a washing machine drive belt so you can get your appliance working properly again. This includes how to use a cable tie to fit a washing machine belt, as well as how to stretch a washing machine belt to get it fitted securely.

    It is entirely thanks you to that I got the wheel belt which was "supposed to be shorter than the wheel of the pulley" onto the wheel belt AND motor.
    Turning the DRUM rather than turning the wheel itself provided enough leverage to get the belt on.
    THANK YOU SO MUCH

    The way I do these ones, and never had a problem, is to just take the lid off, dangle the belt down - once around the motor spindle, I just tension it up the left (from backside) hold the tension with fingers on the pulley wheel and roll the pulley round. It goes on the same as all others just you have a smaller portion of wheel to turn.

    • @eSpares

      Hi Jason, thank you for your post and hopefully, your information will help other people but if they are struggling we still like the cable tie trick lol.

  • @RichXZ
    @RichXZ 5 років тому

    Thanks but although your advice is very practical, & you make it look easy, the belt for my Zanussi ZWG1140 won't go on easily, & even when I did get it on, it came off straight away once the drum started turning. There is a bolt (no.13) near the bottom of the drum. Would loosening this bring the drum nearer to the motor spindle & thus make the belt easier to fit?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  5 років тому

      Hi RichXZ, we understand that fitting a new belt can be a challenge as they are always much tighter than the original but your issue sounds like there may be something else affecting it, loosen the bolt does not move the drum but take a look at the pulley first as if it is loose or has too much movement it can slip the belt off.

    i've been trying the zip tie method all damn afternoon and it doesn't work for me, idk if i'm doing something wrong but at some point the belt just always gets off of the motor spindle and i have to start again (which is annoying because the only access for it is at the bottom of the washing machine, not on the back for me, so i have to flip it on it's side then flip it back up after to spin the drum)

    lately belt my washing machine often loose, but I can put it back even though it is very difficult because it can only be accessed under the bottom and top, initially pulle loose, then I tighten, but a few moments belt loose again, I check the pulley is installed right and strong , belt is good enough, not like in your video. what is the cause of it? already three times off in this week.

    Didn't work for me- similar machine. Managed to get the belt on with tie however despite keeping the belt straight when winding drum, the belt kept winding to the rear of the pulley and brushing against rear drum surface. Took the belt off and retried about six times no luck. This machine was a few years old so just going to buy a new one instead-will make sure I buy a model with removable back plate. Thanks anyway.

    The true steps to replacing the belt:
    1:"How hard could it be?" Waltz right in and struggle for ages using just your hands.
    2:"It just needs a little help" Get screwdrivers and other tools to try to get the damn thing on. Fail at the brink of success several times.
    3: "It just needs perseverance" Try various combinations of tactics in vain until the belt slipping off causes your finger to get sliced open on the razor sharp steel casing.
    4: "Ok, maybe I need help" Seek internet assistance and find a simple cable tie sorts it out in seconds.
    5: "Success" Open celebratory beverage and seek sympathy from wife for ouchy on finger.

    When you say adjust as required, it would be nice to know what is required - i am not sure exactly where the belt should be positioned.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  6 років тому

      HI Mark, the motor pulley has more 'slot's' than the belt has ridges. If you look carefully at the pulley a number of slots will be cleaner than some as these contacted the belt. Simply pull or push the belt when turning by hand to move the belt onto the cleaner groves and the original position.

    • @markyboy4777
      @markyboy4777 6 років тому

      Thanks, but my wife was trying to fix this while I was at work and the pulley threads all look the same dirty colour now! I've attached it to the end threads of the motor pulley furthest from the washing machine. the belt naturally goes to the inside lane (closest to the washing machine) on the wheel, but overhangs the edge by a mm or 2 - I assume the belt has stretched too much?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  6 років тому

      Re adjust to get the belt running in the centre of the pulley. Even if stretched belts do not normally come off unless overloaded or the pulley is loose.

    • @markyboy4777
      @markyboy4777 6 років тому

      OK thanks. With a lot of effort I manually pushed the belt over to the outer edge (and also tried the very middle) of the big wheel (furthest away from the washing machine) - but a couple of rotations and the belt moves back to the inside edge (with a bit of overhang as mentioned previously). So could be a loose pulley - assume on the motor pulley, or could be on the wheel too?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  6 років тому

      You need to 'step' the belt one ridge at a time on the motor pulley until it naturally runs in the right area of the pulley. to do this pull or push the belt in or out of the motor pulley as you turn the drum pulley round. If the motor has been refitted check it is in the correct position and tightened correctly.

      Hi Robs garden blog, are you sure you have the correct belt as the last tip with the cable tie always works, also check the pulley for movement in case it's taking the belt off when it's turning.

      Hi Chris, on some models fitting the belt is difficult and the video is there to show this which can not be shown simply but ultimately showing you it can be done.
