I also found that you can avoid buying the belt installation tool by using a zip tie on the motor pully - put the belt on the motor pully and then put a zip tie right below that, keep it tight while doing the rest of the operation.

I've just reattached the original belt that came off, all on its own! Without this video, I wouldn't have known about the 2 top clips or how to "get in", but my clips would not release, they still hung onto the front panel. Believe me, I tried almost every tool I have with no result. So, I had the panel released all the way to the top & gave up & simply opened the panel from the bottom, as if it was hinged at the top. I propped it open with a length of wood to gain access & then the fun began. Zip tie / Tywrap in place, lying in the dirt outside, there was no way that belt was going on, as hard as I tried. What I needed was a 3rd arm...two to turn the large pulley & another to keep the belt from riding off the drive pulley. Doing this without the "belt installation tool", I wasn't going to be beaten so what I did was to think & realised that lying on the floor, everything is wrong even gravity & access. That's when I decided to lay the machine on its back. This is when the world changed & I had so much more leverage, standing up or kneeling & one arm was enough to turn the large pulley whilst I kept the belt from riding off the drive pulley. For 3 days, off & on for an hour each day I fought that belt with the machine upright. With it lying on its back it took me less than 10 minutes & the belt was on & correctly aligned & is busy washing as I write. The downside, opening the panel, whilst still attached at the top, did bend a bit of the top end panel but that didn't bother me. A lever straightened that out, it took time to find the solution but it saved me 4 or 500 dollars for a new machine & if I had to do the job again... I'd lay it on its back & have the job done inside 15 minutes from start to finish with 1 Tywrap. Where there's a will...there's a way.

Thank you for this! Yes, it's tricky without the pulley attachment, but it's darn near impossible without the zip tie. Excellent tip! Thank you!

Thank you for this video. It helped us, but this, like most of these videos needs to be more realistic about how potentially difficult it is. We used two zip ties, super tight and you have to turn very, very hard. It looks like it won't work but you have to keep going.

Sorry guys but I left a couple of points out relative to previous comment. I removed the drain hose & laid out an old rug, to protect the unit from gravel & dirt before I laid it on its back but, underneath it, I a put a length of 4 x 2 so that the water inlets didn't contact anything & get damaged. Lastly, I completely agree with all comments here about crap design & what passes for engineering today in this "throw-away" world but...if my comments have helped one person, I'll be satisfied.

When replacing the drive belt, make sure you measure it and only buy one that matches those measurements. Otherwise, there is a risk you will be returning it. My first new one was 4 inches shorter than the original one, even though it was advertised for my washer model. The original one was 32 1/4 " long, but I could only find new ones that were either 32" or 32.5" long. I went with a 32" one and it works perfectly.

Good video but I ran into an issue that several people previously mentioned. The belt was so tight that I couldn't get the wheel to turn beyond a point no matter how
hard I turned it. I thought maybe the belt was too small but the part numbers matched with the old one. I suspect different manufacturers may use belts with different elasticity or thickness. Not to give up I soaked the belt in hot tap water for about 5 minutes and then tried the install again. It still wasn't as easy as they show in the video but it was much easier and I was successful in getting it on. Hope this helps.

One important point: Remove your belt before ordering the installation tool. It turns out my model of GE washer -- which from the outside looks exactly like the one in this video -- does not require the tool, as there is a deep C channel on the motor pulley, and another C channel on the large pulley. Also, I would recommend buying some wider, easier to manipulate zip ties, in case your large pulley is as difficult to reach as mine. I had a terrible time getting the zip tie threaded and hooked up -- and I wear child sized gloves! Once I had the zip tie connected (it took about 20 awkward frustrating minutes to accomplish that) the rest was surprisingly easy, even for a petite, not strong woman.

A couple of comments based on my personal experience tonight, replacing my belt. It is possible to do this without the tool all of these videos feature. You do want to use a zip tie, pulled as tight as you can to hold the belt on the large pulley. Remember to have the smooth side of the belt out (exposed) and the grooved side against the pulley surface. Also, my new belt was a full inch smaller in circumference than the old, stretched belt I was replacing! As you rotate the large pulley to seat the belt, it will want to roll off the edge of both the large and small pulleys. Having the zip tie holding it on one spot allows you to use your hands to keep it on both pulleys as you rotate them. One other observation: I was certain that I got the wrong belt initially because of both the size and the width. My old belt was 1/8 inch narrower than the new one, and didn't cover the drive pulley completely. That was because the bottom of it was shredded into tiny pieces in a pile on the bottom tray of the machine. Also, the number on the old belt does not match the replacement part number. I hope this helps you. Good luck!

This is great information. I am not sure if the belt is the problem. After the washer fills with water there is almost a clicking noise like it wants to start but it keeps going on and off every one or two seconds or so. Does this sound like it would be the belt or something else

This is stupid time consuming and a pain in the buns you don't need zip ties or belt instalation tools simply tip the washer back so you can get a better angle put the belt all the way at the top of the drive shaft then hold it on the pulley and spin it will load the belt. Then spin it a few times until it rides in the middle of the drive shaft. Or you can do it the long way this guy shows.

I found it was easier to tip the washer back and take the screws out of the bottom panel to allow more working room and less chance to cut your hands and arms all up trying to get that belt installed. This is by far one of the dumbest designs I've ever seen. A simple slot system in the motor mounts to loosen the motor to install the belt would have made much more sense. Obviously the designers never work on anything they dream up LOL.
I've found that sometimes 2 zip ties are needed to keep the belt on the large pulley. This belt is a lot tighter than they make it look to be in these videos so take caution, its not as easy to install as it looks in the video. It may take several tries to get the belt to go on properly, and most times its going to keep slipping off the large pulley as you are trying to turn it. Even with the "install tool".

Typically is your belt is not staying centered on its pulleys the belt maybe worn or stretched, if thats not the case then the alignment between the two pulleys has changed. I would check to see if one or the other pulleys an be adjusted so the belt tracks properly in the center of the pulleys
