  • In this technical based video VCM Performance shows us a range of off-the-shelf camshafts to suit GM LS based V8 engines. These are aimed at engines still using the factory auto torque converter and for those who drive their car everyday and do not want to compromise things like fuel economy or drive-ability but still would like a lift in engine performance.

Regarding the VCME5, in the video you have the RPM range as 2400-6300 but in the VCM grind list on your Web site it's 2000-6400+. Is there a typo somewhere or is it all very subjective?

I'll take a dual pattern vs a single pattern cam any time. Single pattern cams aren't necessarily good for stock heads, due to casting irregularities, etc., and work best in ported/CNC'd heads that can support the flow characteristics of these higher performannce cams.

Why would you want a performance cam and not upgrade your converter. A high stall converter is the best mod for auto ls1 fbodys. You can daily drive them no problem without sacrificing alot of gas mileage. It's not like old converters in like 60s muscle cars. Lockup around 40mph and it drives just like stock.

Keep duration 216 or under on intake 220 or under on exhaust is a good start going above these numbers will require a 2500rpm stall converter and 3.73 or more gears even a cam with these duration numbers would do better with a 2500rpm or more stall converter something like summits Pro LS truck cam #8719 with 209 duration intake and 217 exhaust with .550 lift should give you good torque from 2000rpm to 6000rpm with a stock stall converter you'll need 3.73 gears
