Thanks for doing my Patreon pick Andrew! Glad you enjoyed it. Having first heard Zeppelin back in 72 and seeing them live that year for the first time and getting every album available that year as well, it seems almost mind blowing that there are folks like yourself that have never heard this song lol!… But understandable. And you know what 50 years later I love the song just as much if not more than ever and glad to have turned you on to it. And another great Bonzo track!
This is the kind of song that took them to another level. In '68 The Beatles were in the studio when George was heard on tape asking if anyone heard the new album by Jimmy Page's band. He aid it was unbelievable.
Hi, Andrew. Thank You for reviewing this beautiful song, your commentary, as always, is greatly appreciated, it's one of my favorite Zeppelin stories. When my Dear Wife, Marianne, dies of her cancer in a few months I'll be playing music like that in my studio, alone, longing for Her.
This was sooo good, Bonzo's touch and feel on this beautiful song. You got it right Andy, Bonzo is all about the music and the song and always was. All the members of Zep served the song first and that's why their music is so loved to this day. Great analysis and thanks for the shout out! :) And thank you Ed for this great pick for Andy to listen to for the first time.....one of the things that is special about this channel....introducing Andy to all the great Classic Rock of the 60's and 70's! I got some Led Zep requests coming your way in the future as well! :)
Read what Bill Ward says about bonham remember John got his first drum kit at 14 years old another reason he is the best rock drummer period The late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham knew Black Sabbath before their respective bands took over the world. Bonham was only 16 when he first got in contact with Sabbath’s Bill Ward, and instantly, Ward knew there was something out of the ordinary about his peer in the Midlands music scene. As teenagers, the duo played on the same circuit across the Black Country under various guises, but Bonham’s talent didn’t take long to receive national attention. In 1968, he was a drummer in demand, with musical artists of stature all queueing up to convince him to sign up for their project. Eventually, after initial hesitation, Jimmy Page successfully lured Bonham to join the New Yardbirds, which later became Led Zeppelin. When the latter became hugely successful, Black Sabbath were inspired, but for Ward, it was inevitable that Bonham would rise to the top. During a radio interview, Ward recalled first meeting Bonham: “Besides being a brilliant drummer, when he was really young, when he was 16, I would watch him play,” he said. “We were both playing drums by the time we were 16 years old. When he played, I thought he was playing out of time because I would hear his bass drum kind of doing these really odd hits. I didn’t understand what he was talking. I couldn’t understand how his drums were talking to me.” He added: “It took me at least one year to understand that he was talking in a completely different language. Then I got it, and I just woke up to it. I went ‘Oh my God. I don’t believe that he is doing this’. And I didn’t really heard a lot of the big bands drummers do it, I hadn’t heard anybody in rock do it before him. I did not quite know how he was doing it. I am talking about his bass drum work, specifically. I just watched and went, ‘Oh my god, I don’t believe this guy!’.” Their friendship remained intact once they became well-known, and they occasionally hung out in the studio. Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath even once enjoyed an impromptu jam session. However, sadly, no recording exists of the historic event. According to Ward, the Led Zeppelin drummer also had a favourite Black Sabbath song. He told Classic Rock: “Bonham really loved ‘Supernaut’. He really had that song down. We were in the studio one day and he came by. He saw I was playing the double bass drum. He said: ‘I’ll do it on one.’ He was, without question, the best rock drummer in the world.” ‘Supernaut’ appeared on Black Sabbath’s fourth album, Vol. 4, an LP made at the height of the band’s cocaine abuse. Despite the chaotic environment in which Sabbath made the record, the heavy metal pioneers struck gold on the release, which also included ‘Changes’ and ‘Snowblind’.
A lot of drummers can "play" like Bonham, but none can "create" like Bonham. It's why they disbanded when he died, sure - they could have gotten another drummer to take his place and "sound" like him, but no one could create the feel that he did when Zep was "creating" their music. His creativity was the backbone and foundation of much of their music.
There is a song by king crimson called Trio which was a recorded live improvisation where Bill Bruford sat behind the kit but opted to play nothing . Robert Fripp gave him song writing credit for his contribution of silence . On the album credits it reads Bill Bruford: admirable restraint
Taste. THAT, apart from their sheer, obvious, next-level musicianship,, is what made Zeppelin such masters of their craft. Knowing when to go loud, soft, heavy , light ("Light and Shade," as Page famously described their ambitions), when to throw in a cool drum fill or a hip vocal trill or flashy solo, etc. When to turn "it" up, tone "it" down, let "it" breathe, and leave US breathless. (Just heard your commentary. You were way ahead of me on the taste thing, lol!)
Thanks for this reaction. Not sure if you have a plan for future LZ reactions, but you really need to to "Nobody's Fault but Mine". Let's see if this happens. Thanks again.
good tune yea that intro fill awesome sound I think for sure Bonham and mitch Mitchel my 2 favourites i think if you taken those 2 guys out of those bands i wonder what they would have sounding like jeff Porcaro also awesome have a great day Rooney
i think the point is feel and judgement i have in mind a series of tracks to make the point starting with jango rhinehart but that's for another day. there are other bands that bonham played in some of them very big names, some not so big, but they seem to have been forgotten/overlooked from proto punk to poprock. then there's then their's the film soundtrack to lucifer rising which is a whole other ball game
Maybe early on but not later and when they did a cover they changed things, whether it was words or music to bring their own flavour to songs. This song is purely a Led Zep creation.
Bonzo wasn't just the most powerfull drummer, he was incredible with technical skills, and so much more! And, Mitch Mitchell wasn't just a jazz drummer, only obsessed by technical skills, he could be powerfull too😂Those guys, are not legends for nothing😂👍✌️We understood your message: "the clothes do not make the man".....Peace from France.....

What a track!!!
Surely one of the best (in a crowded field) from LZ.
And I'm so glad it has deep meaning for yourself and others.
AMAZING
Thank you!

Andrew, I prefer the frequent pauses with an explanation. We're here for your insight, so stopping and analyzing is best.
Thank you for the feed back!!!
Beautiful ballad!! That is Jimmy singing harmony!!
Hey hey from New England... Bonham played with such restraint...Yes he added some wicked fills but overall he played exactly what the song needed 🤘✌️🧐
Very true. Bonham never over-played and he played just what the song needed and nothing more.
Yes you must be from New England or Massachusetts to be more exact. You gave it away with that “wicked” word!
@@spottss lol actually I'm from Sunnappe New Hampshire but I live in Connecticut now good call to btw lol✌️
Live version from Paris theater BBC sessions has one of Jimmy's best solos
Indeed
100%!
Bonham aside, that fucking run that Jimmy Page does at 4:49 is one of the most complimentary, bittersweet phrases I've ever heard in my life. Amazing.

This reminded me why I love zeppelin so much. So many different styles of music, so many amazing favorite songs.

Every girl's favourite Zep song. Fun reaction.
Exactly 💯 mine forever
Yes❤ the most beautiful song they ever made! Thanks Andrew for the shout-out and to Mike for the pick🥁🎶💞
I adore this one. Very surprised I haven't gotten to it until now
What could be better than Led Zep on a Friday!
Best love song ever written.
The first lyrics of the song are amazing
With a purple umbreller and a 50 cent hat! ;)
Thank You is such a cool tune. John Bonham played it with "other worldly" skill and inner talent. RIP
Wonderful chemistry!
Best. Band. Ever.
Wedding song for me and my wife as well.
Where the sun refused to shine, I would still be gloving you.
The toms are tuned to the key of the song I believe...brilliant!
"Thank You" 🙂🥁
THANK YOU!
You're quite welcome.@@AndrewRooneyDrums

I like Bernard Purdies quote "stay out of the way!"
My favorite reaction is you in tears watching Nandi Bushell. I wish you would do some more of her stuff

I will get to it!!! Have you checked out my LZ playlist?
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Bonham is a perfect beast on, "Nobody's Fault But Mine." The breakdowns are crazy good. You will love it, Andrew.

Isn't that John Bobham's voice on backing vocals? He also sings on Bron Y Aur Stomp.
* Bonham ,
Typo. My old eyes don't always catch em while I type on my cel.
I think what you're getting at is that all the things you don't do are really more important than the things you do.
Chris Cornell version is killer
❤❤

Zep,, mainly a cover band. Sorry but it's true.
