Of all the things the members get high praises for, one that’s a bit overlooked is Page’s amazing studio skills. He rarely buries anyone’s parts and seems to elevate everyone instead. How else can a 55 year old tune still sound so fresh?
2:00 that's one of the things I love about older, analog recordings.. everything didn't have to be "perfect" and it made for a much warmer, more organic sound. If you listen to the Beatles there's a lot of stray sounds and stuff picked up by microphones and it never seems to detract from it. You don't get that from today's music.
Hi I'm English Billy, just watched your reaction to the mighty zeppelin doing what is, great reaction, first got into zeppelin at about 12/13 years old am now 67years old, God I hate saying that,in my opinion John Paul Jones and Bonzo are the back bone of them, John Paul Jones especially as he was classically taught, as you know he played just about every instrument going, on some of the live stuff he plays melatron and bass with his feet, I once saw a Interview😂 with J.P.J and he said about Bonzo that most people think all he does is go bang bang when if you watch his closely you see how intricate his drumming actually is, with his little as J.P.J says infills, one last thing, my favourite thing about UA-cam is the reaction channel especially when you see young American people especially the black guys and girls who see zeppelin for the first time ,one especially springs to mind who said (I didn't know white people could sing the blues),even now that puts a big smile on my mush, that's English for face lol, anyway you take care keep up the great work English Billy.
Another excellent track off of this great album, and showing yet another side of Zeppelin. And Bonzo playing just for the song not trying to steal the show at all on this one!
This song is about the affair Robert had or was having with his wife's sister (I'm not sure of the timeline) and there's a phasing effect on his vocals. You will always find dynamics in Zep's music, the light/shade. I never knew the successive hi hat beats were his internal timing system so thank you for that bit of info. His innate ability and feel was second to none. I hope you do Heartbreaker and Living Loving Maid separately; Jimmy never liked that they were combined on US music stations because he felt they had nothing to do with each other.
Thanks Andy, Susanne, & FinesseMuse. I appreciate this because I have tended to focus on Jimmy & Robert in this song especially live so this made me really zero in on Bonham & Jones this time through. Excellent song! Excuse me while I go rewatch RAH 70. 😁
A great job as always, Andrew! Interestingly (I think), this album was released about the same time that Black Sabbath was finishing recording their first album, which was released in early 1970. Deep Purple released their breakthrough album, "In Rock" also in 1970. Although these three bands are often lumped together, I think they each started out with different concepts, and diverged a lot into very separate paths. It's my understanding that Robert Plant asked Iommi's advice about joining Zeppelin, and Iommi told him he should join, since he thought Jimmy Page had a good reputation. Ian Gillan from Deep Purple later did an album with Sabbath, and Bonham jammed with Sabbath for fun several times.
You don’t have to listen closely it’s pretty much right in your face! Love that tune,I read somewhere that before he did his vocal Robert did a few shots of Jack Daniel’s and an herbal cigarette.
Adore this song. The whole album is amazing . Great reaction. Andrew, when you get to side two , " Heartbreaker," and, " Living Loving Maid," were always ppayed together on the radio growing up. Just a thought....
Ye olde left foot (or in my southpaw case), right foot high hat ostinato is amongst my favorite things about playing the drums. Bonzo’s perhaps greatest example of this is Moby Dick live (SRTS version in particular) with the tambourine jingles atop his hi-hat is an hypnotic eargasm IMHO. Keep Rambling down the Zeppelin road, Sir Andrew.
Andy, Heartbreaker and Living Loving Maid were always played as a pair back in the day on the radio. That's how we all heard it originally. Didn't know they were 2 songs until I bought the album.
This is one of my favourite Zep tracks. Great light and shade, with the jazzy verses and then balls out in the chorus. JPJ's bass playing is perfect for the song and Page's solo is pretty awesome too.
Hi Andrew thanks for your reply what I should have said was I hope you will go through the entire zeppelin albums eventually loving the reactions saw zeppelin live in Preston uk in the early 70s can’t remember the exact year
This is definitely top 5 or higher Led Zeppelin track for me. Every part of it is just gorgeous, Bonham's ride, Jonesy's KILLING swinging bass, Page light as a feather touch comping those dominant chords, and Plant's smoky breathy vocal on the verse is just amazing. Then they just bust open the chorus and it's swaggering but still relaxed and spacious. I can't think of anything else in their catalog that's quite like it.
I think the effect is leveling the new thing in the studio at the time,.....compression. Robert in the early 70s was really playing around with compression on his vocals.
oh easy left foot ostinato i have only been working on it for 3 year lol my 5 stroke roll only another 8 years so nearly there with that too lol man pink Floyd and zeppelin all used to hang about and they are 2 of the best bands the world has ever seen fantastic tune and great video some more Rooney top tips
It will be interesting to hear your take on the brilliant Lemon Song, particularly the interplay between JB and JPJ..it is one of Zep's very best in my view..great stuff Andrew, keep it up. Cheers. Pete/UK
Totally agree with your thoughts on the distortion in these recordings. Just sounds right and adds to the old school rock feel. Sounds different to ‘clipping’ in some other albums like many Metallica ones - I don’t like it in those.
May I suggest for the songs on this album that you've already done a reaction for, that you check out the live version. Here is a live version of Thank You, you may want to skip through the organ solo in the beginning. ua-cam.com/video/2lB5gcDnJXo/v-deo.html
That's what she said:"Thank you Andrew for this nice video! Can you do a female drummer f.i. Brutus - Super Dragon live in Ghent? Please? Will blow your socks off" ;-)
The only problem is, it's Led Zeppelin.... Its John Bonham.... So it's always going to be brilliant. I'd love to see some Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) another monster band, but how good is Nick? As a non drummer it feels like he always does "just enough" and I don't mean that in a bad way, but I'd love to hear someone who actually knows what he's talking about, take a look at Nicks contribution to Floyd 🤔

Yes he was a fabulous producer!!
Thanks for more Led Zeppelin ❤
Classic Zeppelin. I love how Bonham plays just what's needed on this song. Nothing more, nothing less.
I love those hi-hats at the end, as if Jimmy has said "don't play on that bit of the measure" and he's still playing something great

Led Zepp week is way better than shark week!!!!
i love the bass on this, great example of light and shade
💯👌

I'm trying to listen to Bonham but got caught up in that bass guitar. John Paul Jones owns this song in my opinion. Bass line is smooth as silk!
Yup beautiful bass on all LZ songs 💯👌
Another awesome song❤ I've heard many times but today all I heard was John B and JPJ putting it down 💯🥁🎸😊
Thanks Andy, Susanne, & FinesseMuse. I appreciate this because I have tended to focus on Jimmy & Robert in this song especially live so this made me really zero in on Bonham & Jones this time through. Excellent song! Excuse me while I go rewatch RAH 70. 😁
A classic Zeppelin hit that makes my top 50 GOAT list. As usual, a great Drum POV ... Thanks!!

If you listen really carefully on the studio version of 'Since I've been loving you' on LZ3, you can hear a squeaky drum pedal.
You don’t have to listen closely it’s pretty much right in your face!
Love that tune,I read somewhere that before he did his vocal Robert did a few shots of Jack Daniel’s and an herbal cigarette.

For me… this song is all about JPJ on that bass.
🙌
Andy, Heartbreaker and Living Loving Maid were always played as a pair back in the day on the radio. That's how we all heard it originally. Didn't know they were 2 songs until I bought the album.
Loving all the Zeppelin!!
🙏
This is one of my favourite Zep tracks. Great light and shade, with the jazzy verses and then balls out in the chorus. JPJ's bass playing is perfect for the song and Page's solo is pretty awesome too.
love the videos. Love music of all genres . Keep it up Sir. Great !!!!!
Bonham is the king of the hi-hat. Misty Mountain Hop and All Of My Love are two that come to mind with unique technique. 😎👍
Hope your going to go through 3. 4 and beyond
Whole album 💯👌
Hi Andrew thanks for your reply what I should have said was I hope you will go through the entire zeppelin albums eventually loving the reactions saw zeppelin live in Preston uk in the early 70s can’t remember the exact year
I hope so too!
Eventually yes!

🙌
What is? Led Zeppelin.
What should never be? No Led Zeppelin.
HAHAHA
JPJ on bass is unreal on this track!
💯👌
BTW, one of my favorite drummers is Clem Burke, of "Blondie". Kills it on "Dreaming".
It's a Leslie, creating that tone.
Lots of panning at the end. Why headphones are a MUST!
I think the effect is leveling the new thing in the studio at the time,.....compression. Robert in the early 70s was really playing around with compression on his vocals.
He also has the famous John Lennon trick of "slap back echo" or delay, tuned very tight.
👌

Most of my fave music is older and distorts. Ie old soul music
May I suggest for the songs on this album that you've already done a reaction for, that you check out the live version. Here is a live version of Thank You, you may want to skip through the organ solo in the beginning. ua-cam.com/video/2lB5gcDnJXo/v-deo.html
A phase shifter used on the vocal
That's what she said:"Thank you Andrew for this nice video! Can you do a female drummer f.i. Brutus - Super Dragon live in Ghent? Please? Will blow your socks off" ;-)
He created the Zone first, then he inhabited it. It was huge in there.
well said
Please react to Fool in the Rain!!!!
if you really want to freak out play the album version of the Ocean see what you hear then !!
Drumeo is now a shell of its former self. The Zepp catalog is basically gone due to new copyrights
The only problem is, it's Led Zeppelin.... Its John Bonham.... So it's always going to be brilliant.
I'd love to see some Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) another monster band, but how good is Nick? Great call!
👍👍👍👍
This song is driven by JPJ, Bonzo takes a backseat to the bass on this one.
Vocal using a phase shiter
Phase shifter**
Thanks! 🙏
...or Immigrant Song.
That's just a trailer before the vid goes live :)
Wrong song dawg
That cover is just a trailer :)
