- Since the beginning of the 2017 IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship, DPi (Daytona Prototype International) has been the top prototype class in the United States. Now, DPi is set to be replaced by LMDh, which joins the WEC Hypercar as part of a new unified top prototype class. But what is LMDh you might be asking? In this video, we go over everything you need to know about one of the two prototype classes that will be racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the not too distant future. Essentially, this is everything you need to know about LMDh.

Love the direction being taken, more manufacturers is always a good thing. Keeping the cars special while trying to keep cost reasonable is laudable
DPi was a great premise to begin with so the fact that they're essentially improving on that concept can only point to bright days ahead. Thanks for tuning in!
I'm so excited about LMDh coming and seeing how all the cars will look like. This just gets me so hyped for next year with Nascar and F1's new cars and also Supercars but they need to sort out there car first before anything else.
Absolutely! There's so many changes on the horizon and I think Motorsport will benefit hugely. Thanks for tuning in!
officially LMDh will already be allowed to race in WEC in 2022, though I doubt any of them will do so (aside from maybe Porsche since they're about to finish their LMDh car this year)
Yeah I think 2023 will be the big year for both classes really. I'm looking forward to it that's for sure. Thanks for tuning in!
I really enjoyed your insights regarding the potential future of sports car racing with Hydrogen and such, I'd definitely love to see something like that reach the racetrack!
Likewise, I'm very much looking forward to seeing LMDh make a splash for IMSA and in WEC, seeing all these manufacturers planning to enter makes me excited!
Yeah! There's so much to get excited about. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, that makes me very pleased to see. Thanks for tuning in!
@@triplecrownracing Yes and the fact that there is going to be an electric Protoype car division in the division as well that for now all get the exact same Bosch engine is a little sad because I would like to see a car that has each own engine that is tested to be up to spec to the rules from each manufacture like Porche has E- sports cars, just as others have E-sports cars from Japan and USA even though in USA the one company Tesla is hated by about 70--80% of the USA and more for their crappy practices to the cars rather then the cars themselves besides that crazy part of the conservative party.
Very thorough video! Well done!
Thanks for being a part of it. You were awesome!!
I have faith in this and I’m excited about it :)
As do I! And there's plenty to be excited about. Thanks for tuning in!
@@triplecrownracing you’re welcome!
Great video! LMDh cannot cone soon enough!! Who else do you wanna see commit in LMDh and LMH in the future??
Thank you very much and thanks for tuning in! Well, I could see McLaren coming along in some capacity and I'd love to see Mercedes try their hand with a prototype version of the Project ONE. Really, I'd just love to see anyone with a good car and the backing to be competitive try their hand. I'm glad you enjoyed and thanks again!
Lamborghini will reportedly use drivetrain similar to Sian car (except hybrid part of course), so a N/A V12 combustion engine is VERY likely
I can’t wait to see these cars at le mans next year. It’s going to be incre!
Waiting for Toyota race in Daytona 24
That will certainly be something to behold! Thanks for tuning in!
I want to see Mazda with there LMDH Hybrid 3 rotor NA engine with Sky Active or 2 Rotor turbo charge with Hybrid ofcorse.
We all do mate, we all do. Thanks for tuning in!
Why would any company get into LMH at this point? You’re spending more money for the same performance? But why? Does your racing team hate money?
I guess some manufacturers would just prefer to build a car from the ground up. And something tells me that the LMH cars may be given a slight advantage when racing at Le Mans (although I hope that isn't the case). Thanks for tuning in by the way!
What is GTP?
It's what the LMDh/Hypercar class will be called in IMSA. Thanks for tuning in!
lmp2
jack can i get your opinions on women
Good
Great video but lets call it what it is cheap sillhouette racing to allow major brands to turn up at the worlds largest motorports tracks for little more than a GT3 program.......
Awesome video. Very informative. Keep up the good work.
This is a top tier video! I love the amount of research you've obviously done here.
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for tuning in!
Alpine will only join the class in 2024. Looks like they will drop back to Lmp2 for 2023.
A lot of things that i dont know, now ive heard
I'm glad you learned something! Thank you so much for tuning in!
I like it and it only seem to get better!!!
It sure does! Thanks for tuning in!
you may be right about the evolution of lmp1 but i'm glad these monster prototypes happened, even though they're gone
I think overall it was a good era of sportscar racing. It's just a shame how it ended. Thanks for tuning in!
my only question is will they have to start sharing garages at lemans like they do at the N24 as its looking like 15 manufactures and with LMP2 and a bunch of GT3 their looking to over 100 enteries for the race
It's my understanding that they have a grid size limit at Le Mans anyway so those that don't make the race end up on the reserve list so I don't think it will be an issue. Thanks for tuning in! I hope you enjoyed.
@@triplecrownracing They are limited but LMDh are almost sure place on starting list, they always can shorten list of GT category
LMDh is like LMP1 but slower
More like DPi but faster. Thanks for tuning in!
Forgot to mention that LMDh stands for Le Mans Daytona Hybrid.
What about Ford racing ??
Nice
If so much of the kit is supplied to the teams and spec, power, is limited and controlled.... How are teams meant to get an edge?
Might as well have a one make series.
If you think about it, LMDh is just an evolution of DPi and the cars that that class produced were all very different to each other. I'm expecting LMDh to be no different. Thanks for tuning in!
