I forgot to mention boost pack modification for Spacesuit Modding, but it still isn’t worth it for me. Consider that you will need pack mods 3 which as we talked about in the video requires the special projects skill (rank 1). So you would need to spend 13 skill points in Science to be able to change your boost pack to a power pack or a balanced pack. You need pack mods 2 for the skip capacity boost pack but it's still a big opportunity cost just for that. As always, if it suits your build and your roleplaying and you really want it then go for it. Especially if you're already invested in science for other reasons :) Otherwise always remember opportunity cost. I'd still recommend saving those skill points for something else.

I was going to mention the boost pack, but I agree. My current playthrough is doing all the science stuff. But the investment to get to changing your boost pack is ridiculous. I feel like I'm being called out on the engines, lol. I was paying close attention to shields and weapons. Recharge rate on shields is important right? Or did I get that wrong too? I did take advantage of the pirate thing, when I first played. I could grab a "kill the pirate leader " quest off of a kiosk, walk into a base and kill the leader, for the xp and credits. No aggro from the other pirates. No Crimson Fleet bounty from that either.

Plus the different boost pack modifications sometimes spawn on packs. While they are VERY nice for any kind of boostpack oriented build, spending 4 perk points just to get them isn't necessary.

One thing i haven't seen anybody mention is the Serpentis system. It's up in the upper right side of the map, and a great place for space combat. About 80-90% of the time you jump into any planet in the system, you get jumped by multiple Va'ruun ships. The ships are worth good money, and the va'ruun have some pretty good gear.

Ship Building: I started out wanting a mobile base of operations. That meant Bed, Workshop, and lots of cargo space for all the resources I might need. Since I maxed out crafting, I've dropped the Workshop, sold the resources, and removed cargo bays. In fact, I sold all my ships but the Frontier and . I decided to make an entirely Class-A assault scout ship. I have nearly maximized its potential (just need Vanguard stuff) while keeping it in the shape of a small, sleek fighter craft.
Skill Utility: I'm finding that most skills are situational. The only skill I consider a must-have across all character types is Boost Pack. Literally, everything else exists to flesh out a concept.
    Starship Gear: Yeah.
Crimson Fleet: My only interaction with the Crimson Fleet will be from the barrel of a loaded gun. My head canon allows for moral ambiguity, but I get nothing from being the bad guy.

I painted it a brighter white and gave it gold accents, upgraded the reactor, weapons, and cargo holds, and gave it a longer fuselage. Other than that, I kept the existing design language. The idea was to expand the ship to be useful for all around use, while still maintaining some ability to brawl against the few ships that don't run from it.
My first playthrough, I heavily modified the Frontier. i liked what I had but it wasn't the Frontier anymore. This is because so many of the challenges that are needed to progress the character’s level are combat based, and turning the pirates friendly eliminates a lot of those combats from the game because there are so many pirates.

It does kinda give the impression that the Settled Systems are right on the edge of collapsing into an orgy of violence at the hands of the massive number of hostile factions out there. I mean shit, for every surface POI with friendly locals in it, there are 20 which are either abandoned (presumably because the inhabitants were either killed or run off) or overrun by pirates, Va'ruun zealots, Ecliptic mercs, or spacers. I can also kill hundreds of pirates and vaporize dozens of their ships without making any obvious dent in their numbers. It makes it feel like the largest and most powerful factions in the game aren't the UC and Freestar, but the various roving hordes circling like hungry wolves.
That's what I thought they were going for at first, until I played for a while and realized all of the "major" factions treated them as irritating problems rather than existential threats. Although I admittedly have not finished the game, so no spoilers if I was closer to correct than I realized.

On heavy suits though, they gain 3 kg in mass because the mass gains are percentage based, meaning you're going through all this effort to add 2kg of effective carrying capacity. Add in the other mod that slot can lighten the suit by 4kg, and then Pocketed looks mighty silly when making the suit lighter gives you MORE effective carry capacity than the mod whose sole purpose is to add carrying capacity, while having additional upsides!

WHen it comes to ship building my ship usually does reflect my character's background. Like I made a combat medic and my was relatively large but sleek ship with an infimary and made to transport people while the longhauler was a basically a massive battleship with tons of cargo specifically the ones the ones that jut out and come in a bunch of different colors and purposely kept them colorful like it's the most secure freighter in the universe.

The starship construction portion really makes me wish that dedicated shipyards like Deimos and Stroud (and I'm sure others) that are "we own this entire place, not renting space" really should have a simulator booth, maybe one you have to pay to unlock, where you can load a test flight with your newly constructed ship. Even the vanguard test simulator only lets you fly a pre-built.

If you do not use stealth in the mission Absolute Power (Crimson Fleet) then Ikande will chew you out and expel you from Sysdef, at which point you can go to jail or chose to fight.
The mission itself is a pain in the ass, especially if you haven't specced into stealth, however if you wish to do it the "good" way then taking off everything equipped really helps. Also note you cannot kill anything, even a sanitation droid will result in expulsion.

I don’t think he realizes that even when you’re in the crimson fleet you can still fight them and as long as you kill them all there will be no bounty it will actually pop up on the screen after the last one is killed and say something like “all witnesses killed” and remove the bounty.
So this gives you the chance to play all factions at once without it affecting your exploration and gameplay experience.
So when exploring it’s irrelevant to me what type of enemy is there and if they are crimson fleet as long as I kill them all it ends up being exactly the same as if I never joined them.
I recently just found this out and thought the same as you because I played stealthily and I just would still pick them off pretending like they were enemies but one of the last enemies was elite and I don’t get a crit bonus and one shot him in the head and he attacked me and added a bounty but as soon as I killed him and the remaining enemies it popped up on screen and said bounty removed and I went to the key just to make sure it didn’t have any other effects and sure enough it was fine so since then I treat crimson fleet the same as if they were ecliptic when I encounter them at a location

2:00 I approach ship building with the simple rule of "I work alone but Vasco can come too."
So nothing is made bigger than a Class-B. The ship is only one floor, has a minimum of 3,500 Mass Capability, 95% Maneuverability or better, 250 Fuel Minimum, and maximum speed is at least 200 w/o any perks. I am your typical bounty hunter and occasional smuggler.
My current ship looks like the Star Eagle on steroids. It's black as night except for a dark gray cockpit and it is called "Nevermore"

Spacesuit design is worth it just to get to the special projects skill since there is nothing better in the skill tier with spacesuit design and being able to mod weapons with the special projects skill unlocked granting top tier weapons mods is ohhhhh soooo worth it regardless of what build you’re going for.
Even if you don’t mod your own weapons (you’d have to be crazy not to) you can make literally millions of credits over time with very little resource investment (especially if you have the suit you get from the warlock guy who’s ship you board during UC quest line that gives about a 20% chance each weapon mod costs zero resources) just buy modding weapons before you sell them

The whole thing about the Crimson Fleet is how I’ve always felt about the idea of being Forsworn. If I could change just one thing about BGS’s content, I would make it to where factions are not so collectivized or centralized, it’s extremely small minded and quite unrealistic

    • @EyeOfMagnus4E201
      @EyeOfMagnus4E201 Рік тому +3

The Crimson Fleet is an organized faction with a hierarchy as opposed to the spacers who are a collection of independent raiders. You can become a spacer at any time yourself, but other spacers will still attack you because they aren’t actually an organization while the Crimson Fleet is an organization which you have to work to join but since they’re allied, they don’t attack each other, including you. If the Crimson Fleet just acted like spacers, they wouldn’t be the Crimson Fleet, they’d be spacers in red spacesuits. Makes sense to me.
Meanwhile, the Foresworn are actually a collection of Reachmen tribes with no actual central authority, so if you help out the “king” of the Forsworn, you ally only with his tribe.

My issue with the White Dwarf 3015/3030/(etc) series is that each engine has a 3 MAX POWER value, whereas those from Slayton Aerospace (Most notably the SA-4330 model and the rest of its series) only have a 2 MAX POWER value - meaning that a comparison should be made between 4 White Dwarf engines vs 6 Slayton Aerospace, not on an individual engine-to-engine basis.

In general, system power demand is very important for optimizing ship builds... other commenters already noted that auto ship weapons only require 1 pip of reactor power to be functional... and you basically get a full barrage out of them.
Great if you just want to delete ships before they can fire on you with long range particle weapons. Regular weapons require max power to fire at the listed fire rate.
In general, managing reactor power demand is key to an efficient ship build. If you can achieve max speed and mobility with less reactor power, DO IT. That means reducing the number of engines. Also with Astroneering and Sarah as crew, you can really extend your jump distance so you really don't need a massive Grav drive/fuel either.
Shield regen rate is pretty darn useless if you build your ship right.
Don't forget to do simple arithmetic on DPS for weapons and cargo capacity per mass.
One thing I found out recently is that you can buy cargo shielding and shield cargo modules from the Ship vendor at the Red Mile. I haven't gone down the UC faction quest nor Crimson Fleet so that was my only option.

i need to get to building another ship so i can build from scratch,
I got the Mantis ship, and now i’m at the Pirate base where you can get, at least at this point in my playthrough, better parts than at the main cities, so i have ship of Theseused it into something totally different.
went from a sleek Space Hero ride to a pirate smuggler home base.
it is technically three levels, but the upper levels are in the back left and right.
imagine it like this, the max width is three hams wide. the back left and right are a stack of three 2x1 habs stacked. living quarters are in the right, “work space” is on the left. (all-in-one, crew bunks and captains quarters for living space and armory, workshop and science lab on the left. in terms of length, it is the length of two 2x1 habs and the middle section is mostly for role playing. in between the triple stacks described above, i have the computer core and the control deck and above those is an engineer room, mostly for role playing value, and the cockpit is in the front in the middle.
i find it to be a best of both worlds kind of build. i can enter the ship and get to the cockpit without having to climb any ladders, but i have all the stuff i need to role play with my character as a real captain of a ship.
i have structural bits all around to keep it for looking like a bunch of shipping containers. my favorite part is that i have overhanging structural pieces off the top of the triple stacks that hang over the cargo holds, so it keeps them from looking ugly as heck just hanging off the sides.
a little tip. try using structural arms to hold engines off the main body of the ship. i find this helps make designs look much cooler. also, find a way to get landing gear that look like engines when flying. the ones from the mantis do this, but when you get it they are on the front of the ship. find a way to move stuff around so that those go where the engines sit when you get this ship. it makes the ship look a lot cooler. i moved the original smaller engines forward on the sides of the ship and between the landing gear, the big engines out on arms and the smaller engines, it looks like the ship is super fast…but i’m really not. the ship is pretty slow because i made it so heavy, but it is super maneuverable…maybe because of the engines being in arms? not sure if shape has any effect on maneuverability, but if it was a real ship, it would turn much tighter than it otherwise would…but again, not sure how the game physics actually work.
also, lot’s and lot’s of space for weapons. i have three missed launchers, three laser guns and two big EMP cannons. i’m pretty much unbeatable unless heavily outnumbered, and that becomes less and less an issue the more money i make and levels gained and the better shields and weapons i can buy.
