A little blurb from BGG on the first game in the series, Antietam 1862: "This game is similar in rules to High Tide at Gettysburg, and Chickamauga River of Death, but the designer has made it his own by simplifying and speeding up play with innovative changes." Also from BGG: "I will say that I haven't changed any of the base rules between Antietam and Shiloh and it has play tested wonderfully which makes me feel the core series rules are very solid. As they were based on Phoenix Games Chickamauga: River of Death, and Gettysburg: High Tide of the Confederacy that makes me feel very secure with everything. Great Question and thank you for the support! Grant Wylie." So it's kinda a new updated spin based off an older design. I think those other two games mentioned were released in the very early 1980s. 1982 to 1983? So when the box says old school war games, it kind of really means it! New spin on an old game! I agree with your assessment of the series 100% though, it's a great beer and pretzels style game. Easy to learn, easy to teach, and great for introducing new players. I'm super jealous you have a copy of the next game in the series already! Lol! This series and the blind sword series are my two ACW series. And of course there's the Black swan system that currently is just for A Most Fearful Sacrifice at the moment, can't wait for Rock of Chickamauga! Franklin is game #5 in the series so far. Antietam 1862, Shiloh 1862, the Seven Days Battles and Gettysburg 1863. Plus you had a statement in your video that I think is a big deal. You mentioned how you appreciated the counters that were punch and play. That is becoming a huge deal with me. Pre-rounded corners on the counters and no counterclipping! Lol! But in all seriousness, when you can punch out the counters with absolutely zero need to clip anything, and you have a clean easy rule set, you can literally open this box, and be playing within a very short period of time. The other nice thing about these games is the low counter density. Not only does it make gameplay a lot nicer, but it makes set up of the game so much faster. When I was younger, we'd play games that had so many counters that it took a long long time to set the game up. Sometimes it would take so long to set the game up that after we had done so we no longer wanted to play the game anymore! Lol! Low counter density is another great aspect that allows the players to focus on fun gameplay, and not being overwhelmed by mountains of counters. I also love the only one counter per hex rule. Sorry for the gigantically long comment! Lol! Great video and great sneak peek! 🍻
Yes, it is very light. It's kind of a beer and pretzels ACW game. While I love something like Blind Swords better overall, sometimes it can be a brain burner.

This series by Worthington is VERY light. Vae Victis magazine did a Cedar Mountain game that is good.

My pleasure Joel! I'm hoping to dig into this one.
Bring the beard back, Wayne.
