- When the telecoms company Talktalk got hacked, scammers went into action. As part of our dot com crime series, we've been investigating how the scammers work, and brought one victim face to virtual face with the men who ripped her off.

You know someone is stupid if they think a computer virus can cause your computer to explode. I mean really? That's not physically possible.
I had a call from an Indian lady saying she was from Microsoft
I said “Microsoft answer customers they do not call out to us first”

And I hung up

My suspicion is that TALKTALK did not get hacked and the info leak was from corrupt employees in poor countries that they use for customer service call centers. Hey I could be wrong and I have no proof. But I can imagine this happening. An insider has access to all this info at the call centre, he\she knows criminals who offer $$$ for info, the employee only earns minimum wage........and says yes ok. Makes more sense than being hacked, to me. Either way it sucks.
That DID happen some months before the big hack of 2015. Some employees in an Indian call-centre sold off TalkTalk (TT) customer details to some undesirables and people were cold-called by individuals - the cold-callers had real TT customer account numbers!
100% correct, that's where the real big scam's been, the cyber hack was a drop in the ocean in comparison. It's been going on for over a decade, old folks called 15 mins after they reported a fault by a fake Talktalk employee and conned out of thousands and talktalk say "well the call didn't come from our call centre so it's nothing to do with us", where did the info come from the the guy had a fault ? How easy was it to con someone by knowing he had a fault ! I've seen it all first hand. ....People still go there to save 50p a month, madness, these guys get your birthdate, your "special questions" where did you grow up etc, answers that can't change, they've got 'em for life.
She called him stupid for posting his scamming number on facebook...
Yet *she* believed her computer was about to explode. -.-
How daft is that? I mean she had not even got 5G yet.
talk talk should give compensation to those who been scammed
It WAS very gullible of her, however if you've led a sheltered life, and are used to dealing with honest people, this could seem legit. For most people who are used to dealing with dodgers all the time, this is pretty obvious, I feel bad for her, she seems like a nice woman.
Fuck the scammers, I used to be a conman of sorts but I only ever targeted big companies. I have by accident targeted individuals (family owned companies), and NEVER done it again once I realized and it made me feel very guilty. These guys are heartless pricks, never target individuals or small companies. Dont even target WEALTHY individuals. We are all just people trying to get along. I even feel bad for targeting big business like walmart as this has a knock on effect to individuals in a way. We need to have a social conscience even if we are criminals........please????
Do what you have to do to survive, with the minimal effect on others. Life is hard enough, not just for you, but for everyone else.

Scammers are complete and utter parasites. When someone phones you up and tells you that there's a problem with your computer, just hang up straight away. How exactly would someone on the phone know anything about her computer? Answer, they wouldn't know.
I sincerely hope this lady is not in charge of anything or anyone in her daily life - how could she fall for such a blatant scam! I suspect she heard the word "refund" and had pound signs in her eyes. Yet she calls the scammers stupid ........!

I had a computer explode on me once, then I woke up and realised it was just a bad dream.
When you get an Indian voice then you know it is a scam.
Even in this age we do nothing to stop scammers. I think as a country we focus more on the royals and that unhealthy obsession than shutting down scammers. As a society e need to get our priorities right

It's hard to feel sorry for someone her age, with the privilege of an education who was OUTSMARTED by a boy half her age, without the education she had. I don't condone theft, I just think this utter nitwit doesn't deserve what she has, she obviously isn't smart enough to have actually earned it. It was probably handed to her by her parents.

Why dont they employ these people for Didos track & trace. do a better job and a lot cheaper.

Talk Talk ? that joke? they are bigest scammers - don't get internet speed with is promise, and send engineer to ,,FIX,, with charge big money from my pocket, and still get bill for full internet speed, but actually get half of speed
In today's world everyone knows your address and email address even your neighbor knows that but it doesn't mean they can steal money from your bank account with those information so these kind of stupid and dumb people should stop blaming companies for being scammed.
They are all Indians but you can't say that.
I have had 4 calls from knobs claiming to be talked to they've called me five times in two days is getting stupid now luckily I know that thay are scamming twats and tell them to find a deep hole and full in it lol
