I have a B model V-Rod and I love it. I also have a sport bike, so it's not the be-all end-all bike for me. In that scenario, the V-Rod works well. It's comfortable as hell and it revs out like my Super Hawk. It's definitely a fun bike for a cruiser. You get a lot of hate from people that have never ridden one, but that's on them. All bikes have their place.
FYI, I also had the old V-65 Magna, and I think it would've walked the V-Rod because it was a lot lighter. It was ugly as sin, though, so that was the down side there. I've never ridden one of the second-gen Magnas, but I think they don't have the displacement to hang with a V-Rod.
Thanks for making this. They quit making the V-Rod this year (low sales), so it's nice to see you give one some love.

GT COE Some criticize the bike, some criticize the stereotypical rider, some criticize the brand and the lifestyle it promotes, some criticize the high price, and they're all valid criticisms I've heard over the years. Me, I dgaf, I ride a maxi-scooter and respect anything on two wheels regardless because at the end of the day we're all out here riding and risking our lives amongst the cagers on their cellphones.

GT COE because of what snowcat said in a video. There are the only motorcycle company that you could walk into a store for and not be able to buy a bike there. Also their "American" bikes, are just Japanese parts assembled in the US of A. On top of that when you wash them, you need to barley trickle the water to not break the damn bike.

Pics & videos fail to do this bike justice! Last year I went to look at one at a Harley dealership (a 2010 gloss black Muscle with 5400 miles) and just looking at gave me cold chills. It took two test rides to get me hooked, I bought it the following weekend. No regrets!
This makes my 15th motorcycle and hands down it's my favorite! I once owned a 1985 V-65 Magna, it was powerful, comfortable and very agile for a cruiser, but it lacked the Cool factor and bored me for some reason.
I've ridden 4 other Harleys in the past (including a recent test ride on a 2018 Fat Boy 107) and for some reason they all bored me too.
Besides my V-Rod, the only other bike that didn't bore me was my punched-out & fully customized 2003 Yamaha FZ1. You couldn't ask for a better standard sportbike (except for the new Aprilia Tuono if you can afford it)!
After 15 years my FZ1 is still a smooth ride, but my V-ROD is an absolute addiction! No kidding; that's why my personal plate reads "ADCTNG". I plan on buying a brand new 2017 V-ROD muscle in the next few weeks (there's still some sitting in dealerships) just for a lifetime spare since they stopped making them (plate will read "PRFCTN").
The Yamaha is for sale on consignment: The V-ROD MUSCLE killed my desire to ride it.

Hey I ride a 2016 and 99% of your comments & opinions are correct. Nice to see someone push this bike because that's what it wants to do.
It's a beast to push into the corners and does best on long, sweeping curves. I had 3 riders behind me on gixers that could not pass me till the end of a sweeping curve. This bike fools a lot of car riders as they want to run by you cause they see it's a Harley. But the look on their face after they snap their neck as you leave em behind.

  • @bikecommuter24

    Dan
For shorter riders Harley sells bars and seats that move your closer to the controls.
I'm like you test rode a few VRods, and just had to walk away, I do not have the self control to behave myself. LOL
If you are buying used look for a Street Rod it had mid mounted controls, and I'm sure but there was a company making a conversion kit to mid mount controls I'm not a fan of forward controls.
I'm a Harley Rider and I wave at all two wheelers scooters to touring riders, if they wave back fine if they don't oh well life rolls on.
I like all kinds of bikes, Japanese to Euro to American, don't want to sound like an old guy but I'am been riding since 1978 and have had Hondas, Suzuki's ,Kawasaki is still my favorite Japanese make especially the Ninja line.

As a V-rod Owner (2002 VRSC-A) I just want to say you may want to consider riding this bike again, The V-Rod is a performance bike and the RPM she likes to sit at is around 4k-8k. I promise, if you take it out again and sit in the higher RPM's you will start to truly feel the sheer responsiveness and absolute power that this bike has. Personally I am able to stay in 2nd Gear up until ~80-90 mph. Trust me Dan, it will be worth your time to try this bike out a second time.

Way to give an honest review and try something different. The V-Rod is a hell of a ride. Most of the Harley line rides similar, V-Rod definitely stands out. If you want a real unique ride try an old shovel or pan head bobber. Like a bicycle on steroids. And there are some sick fast sportsters also if you need the speed.

OK Dan, i know you probably wont see this but i used to think exactly like you. Harleys are known for oil leaks and all but they did fix that back in the 90s if im not mistaken. My first bike was a 750 honda shadow and it was alright but it got old real fast, basically a starter bike for me. My dad got a road king a year later and i liked it so i started searching for a new bike. thats when i found the bike i love. Harley Davidson Heritage softail. I sat on one for the first time and it was heaven, a few months later i was able to find one i loved and rode it and was estatic about the ride. I know what everyone thinks of Harley riders and i understand because i used to be the same way, but every bike is different. Give them a chance. i hate the looks of Harleys except for the Heritage and the road king. there amazing rides and i just love the look of them.
