As an IMPORTANT note: the final boss is ONLY vulnerable to Bubble, and there is no way to regain weapon energy in the final stage. So if you run out, you must game over and continue. Luckily, Bubble is a rather efficient weapon (2 shots per ammo pip); but still be careful.
@@Sandokiri yes, go in full, don't waste any unnecessary shots.
and if you do hit him with anything else, it regenerates his life
Metal Blade was OP AF
Indeed, and it required very little power to use.
Keiji Inafune remarked in 1996 that he hated Metal Man because of how weak he is against his own weapon.
One shot of heatman on full power knocks out woodman.
Two
@@ominousparallel3854 2 on hard. 1 on normal mode
Nobody plays normal mode 😅
I loved that both Mega Man 2 and 3 both had secondary weaknesses for all the bosses, really added variety to any playthrough of the game. I really wish they'd bring that back, never saw those again after 3, either in the Classic or X series.
Agreed. It gave you another option to discover.
Thanks for the memories. I was born in 82 so I Literally grew up on these
@@gryphon5026 I’ll try to keep them coming 👍 I’m an ‘81 baby
@NESencyclopedia Nice! I'll Sub to see what else you give a Throwback too
@@gryphon5026 Thank you, much appreciated.
The Metal Man boss fight was such a fun sequence of button pushing. It might be my favorite boss fight on NES. My only complaint is that it doesn't last long enough.
I can pretty much go in any order, but the only constant is that Air Man has to come before Heat Man because screw doing that level without the Item-2 sled.
Also I always found it pretty cruel design to make Quick Man weak against the same weapon that you've probably used up to make it through the beams in his stage haha
although nowadays I can get by the beams without the Time Stopper, that wasn't the case when I was a little kid.
I love doing the blocks on heat man's stage without item 2. Been doing it for 20 plus years. My friend always says I'm showing off.
@@GV213 I've done it once, and that was enough for me. Had to abuse the rewind feature in the legacy collection to do it. It's that one over the open pit where you have to jump directly up in anticipation of the next block appearing that always gets me.
I’ve never seen someone beat Quick stage without time stopper. I honestly didn’t think it was possible.
@@stubbs6584 I can do it in my sleep. It's not that hard. You just gotta know where to land.
The Time Stopper only removes half of his life...
My favorite NES game. Subbed
@@jmarx3943 Thank you, much appreciated!
The air cannon is surprisingly more useful and versatile and possibly worth getting first.
Awesome video. I still have an old VHS tape that had tips to beat several games that included Megaman 2 and Ninja Gaiden 1.
I had that as well
I did a Noob's Guide to this game on my channel, and I advocated starting with Airman there, then Crashman, Flashman, Quickman, Metalman, Bubbleman, Heatman, and then Woodman.
The main reason I advocated that order isn't because of the bosses themselves, but rather the item progression and E-Tank farming from that order makes the entire game flow smoothly, and it makes the final Wily stages much easier as well.
@@None-i1l I was mainly focusing on boss progression. I 100% agree, the earlier Dr. Light items and e-tanks can be a game changer.
Was fun figuring the mega man games out growimg up.
I remember reading some game guide back in the day, I think it was Nintendo Power, and it said to start out with Airman.
Airman is a real badass with other AI, but the reasoning was his attacks were easy to dodge.
That was a Howard and Nester comic in Nintendo Power. Nester was always the inept sidekick, so that might've been disingenuous. Like if someone went "Hey you know what's the best Highlander movie? The second one!"
Wily Machine is another case of having 0 invincibility frames. With fast enough firing, Metal Blade and Buster can wreck first form. Crash Bomb is the real weakness but because you have to use all of it on Boobeam Trap with no way to recharge, no one ever gets to use it.
Wily Machine phase 2 is the same, no invincibility. But it also gets Quick Boomerang that can damage it too. Though if you have a Crash Bomb left after beating Boobeam, you can hit a specific spot forcing the bomb to detonate and the explosion will wipe out Wily instantly. Its hard as crap to do though.
Here's my order --
Normal mode-
Metal Man - Use Mega Buster (Quick Boomerang during the rematch)
Wood Man - Use Metal Blade
Air Man - Use Leaf Shield
Crash Man - Use Air Shooter
Bubble Man - Use Metal Blade
Heat Man - Use Bubble Lead
Flash Man - Use Metal Blade
Quick Man - Use Time Stopper then Mega Buster
Difficult mode--
Air Man - Use Mega Buster (Leaf Shield during the rematch)
Crash Man - Use Air Shooter
Flash Man - Use Mega Buster
Quick Man - Use Time Stopper then Crash Bomb or Air Shooter
Metal Man - Use Quick Boomerang
Bubble Man - Use Metal Blade
Heat Man - Use Bubble Lead
Wood Man - Use Atomic Fire (Due to in fact that it takes two fully charged Atomic Fire to kill Wood Man during the rematch, you won't be using it on the first part of Wily Machine 2, so you have to use the Metal Blade instead...)
@@RedRanger2001 great write up! I like the difficult boss order, you definitely need the skills to pull it off.
love seeing all the different boss orders everyone has. Cheers
Metalblades vs metal man in Wiley castle always one hit 1:45
My order goes like this:
Heat Man
Wood Man
Air Man
Crash Man
Flash Man
Quick Man
Metal Man
Bubble Man
I always do Flashman first using the P shooter so that I can get a few desirable items from the Quickman stage which I do next. I just use Time stop and the P shooter on Quickman.
THEN I do Metalman and beat him with the boomerangs,
Then Woodman with Metal Blades,
Leaf Shield (or just P shooter) on Airman,
Air shooter on Crashman,
Metal Blades on Bubbleman,
Bubble Lead on Heatman,
Atomic Fire on the Dragon,
And everything else is basically the same.
@@vorbis4860 great pick! I'd choose heat man first because defeating heat man is easy if you shoot at the right time with the buster and you can get item-1 (despite Atomic Fire being a trash weapon)
Air Man first...always. Need that Item 2 to get all the good power ups. Also, I tend to use the regular Arm cannon against Air Man, Crash Bombs against Wood Man (cause it's fun), and Air Shot against Quick Man. Bubble Lead is real effective against Guts Tank as well.
Airman, Flash, Quick, Metal, Bubble(metal), Heat or Wood(Air), Crash(Air). Thats my order but this game is great no matter what order you go. Good video
I think this is the only MegaMan game that actually recommends in the manual who to start with (AirMan). Beating him with the pre-Mega Buster is very doable and you also get that jet platform for beating him.
underrated strat
This has to be the most satisfying ending to a NES game.
One of them, especially to a young kid.
@ Blaster Master was good too.
I always went for Bubble Man first, then Air Man to get Item 2, then I went for Heat Man. If you jump and hit Crash Man with Air Shooter while he's in mid-air and all three tornadoes hit him at once, you can basically one shot him.
I'm just gonna say it: Going after Metal Man first just breaks the entire game. My personal order is Air, Crash, Flash, Quick, Metal, Bubble, Heat, Wood. In true Mega Man fashion, you use the last obtained weapon on the next boss.
And then, for a real challenge, start with Bubble Man first. Same order. If you can get through Heat Man's stage without Item #2, you can finish the game with no problem.
Crash doesn't kill flash though, it kills quick. Metal kills flash.
The old-timey strightforward running challenge.
No.
1. Air Man (Jet Sled aka the GOOD Mega Man 4 "Rush Jet")
2. Crash Man (easiest stage with no instant kill traps)
3. Flash Man (second easiest stage with no instant kill traps. Crash Bomb is #2 weakness)
4. Quick Man (Flash Stopper is a must. Crash Bomb is #2 weakness)
5. Metal Man
6. Bubble Man
7. Heat Man (LOLCow special weapon after going through disappearing/appearing block hell. That's why you have the Jet Sled for this stage. Levitation Platforms not worth it as the Jet Sled makes for a nice alternative "Levitation Platform" if done correctly)
8. Wood Man (second worst weapon with a difficult stage and boss...unless you are playing on -Easy- Normal mode [NES only])
Way back in the day, my friends and I used to call heat man the "flaming loaf of toast".
🤣 that’s awesome
Fun fact...fight heat man at the end room. Take down 80% of his energy..hit him with a heat ball..it refills his energy.
Also use crash on heat to fry your cartridge.
The crappiest boss was the cannons in Wily level 4. More than one miss with the crash bomber and the ammunition was no longer enough.
Thank you
Am a bit suprised-but
yeah i did Airman first, too...😮
Holy Volume Normalization, Batman!
It's strange how boss order is so messed up in Megaman 2 unlike the other games
I usually do Bubble Man and Wood Man first, because they're both really easy to kill without any powerups (and bubbles do hurt Wood Man pretty well). That way I can save Metal Man's stage until I get a couple of the Items that make the rest of the level easier.
Press and hold the shoot button immediately after a boss is selected. When the boss is introduced, stars no longer appear in the background, but fish.
They're birds. Copipis, the smaller versions of the Pipi that fly around and drop eggs.
Note: Flash Man’s real weakness is Crash Bomber.
while true many still use metal mans weapon him. Especially for the refights since wily is weak to crash bomb
Crash Bomber is harder to hit Wily with than Metal Blade. Meanwhile, Crash Bomber against Flash Man, *especially* on a flat surface, is far easier and quicker than using Metal Blade.
Also...can you do a video where you don't get hit so much?
I go with Bubble man since I don’t have any items I need to pick up in that stage
@@vidfreak727 good point!
I just went with my order from childhood play throughs. Always thought the Metal Blade was OP for getting through the levels as well, so I always went there first. Didn’t really consider level items.
My last few runs on the difficult (Japan) mode, I go Metal, Air, Bubble, Heat, Wood, Crash, Flash, Quick.
Saw Blade is the best. Got it 👍
Flashman, Bubbleman, Woodman and Metalman himself (rematch) were very easily defeated with Metal Blade.
Just subbed
@@moedog awesome, thank you
My order is Heat > Wood > Air > Crash > Flash > Quick > Metal > Bubble, using the Bubbles on Heat Man in the Rematches.
I respect that for doing Heat Man's stage without Item-2 and going through most of the levels without Metal Blade.
I'd say the disappearing blocks section in Heat Man without Item-2 is by far the hardest part of the game for me. I've only ever pulled it off once, and that was by abusing the rewind feature on the Legacy Collection. that part where you have to jump up just before the block appears over your head gets me every time.
you can kill crash with reg wep learn his pattern you wont get hit once you get it
I always went to Airman’s stage first
Heatman is the best to nail Woodman. Depending on the difficulty setting, it will either a 1 hit kill or 2 shots at the most. I forget what it is called but the Heatman power has 2 modes. A single mini shot or charged up mega blast. If you charge up and hit him when his shield is down, you should kill him in 1 shot.
Atomic Fire.
This game came out in 1989 I think.
@@rolloff1218 Good catch! Got it fixed up. The Japan release was Christmas 1988, didn’t come to North America until June 89’ 👍 I meant to use the N/A year, Thank you.
One full shot of Heatman also kills Quickman
I usually go through the 8 robot masters in this order:
Metal Man - Plasma Cannon and then sometimes Metal Blade in the rematch if I want to save time
Wood Man - Metal Blade on both fights - I've only used Atomic Fire maybe 2-4 time over the years that I've played this game
Air Man - Leaf Shield on both fights
Bubble Man - Metal Blade on both fights
Heat Man - Bubble Lead on both fights
Crash Man - Plasma Cannon only - I can't remember the last time I took damage from him after I mastered his pattern
Flash Man - Usually Plasma Cannon - sometimes Metal Blade
Quick Man - Time Stopper and Plasma Cannon, though I have also used Air Shooter
I have also done runs where I've done the reverse order to challenge myself and take on Quick Man without the Time Stopper, go through Heat Man's stage without Item-2, and take on the other robot masters that I normally use Metal Blade on without it, but that's not an order I go through very often anymore. Nowadays, when I'm playing MM2, it's on the anniversary collection and not on original hardware with a CRT so the "feel" of the game is slightly different, but it's just enough throw me off to where the muscle memory I built up as a kid doesn't work as well.
Great write up! Thank you for taking the time. Reverse boss order would be tough and I totally agree with the muscle memory with the remasters!
I always start with Flash man. He's super easy
As a kid I could never get passed crash bomb man. As an adult,i beat the game in a few days on an emulator on my phone . I think it would be faster witha controller, but im no amazing player.
Dude heat man takes one shot on woodman when you charge it up all the way
Wood man is easily beaten using heat man’s weapon
I start off with Airman
Boobeam would have been so much better if you could hold 10-12 crashbomz instead of the 7 they give you.
Wow I do Metal first😅. Because I can use it during stages
@@WorldWithOEnd my thoughts exactly
I wouldn't suggest doing Metal Man first. You'd miss out on an E Tank and an extra life because of not having rush jet. I go Airman first
I go
Air, crash, flash, quick, metal, bubble, heat, wood..( cant beat metal without quick)
Always did air man first
Flash Man can jump that high?
Uh, no? You do Air Man BEFORE Metal Man. 🙄
@@infinitygenealpaI went with my childhood route. I used to struggle with the air man level and metal blade made it much easier for me.
Metal Man's stage first, then wreck the rest of the game with his OP weapon. The end. Until that awful Boobeam boss fight, just turn the game off at that point.
Without stage gameplay,,, this is 100% the incorrect way and false in the sense of difficulty
@@josephgiles1825 I can do a full game play through if interested. Went with my route as a kid, exploiting the OP metal blade. I found it helped throughout the levels 👍 and always open to routing suggestions. Cheers
@NESencyclopedia not necessary my fellow nerd. This is MM2 afterall. We all have our favorite runs and paths. I was kinda being sarcastic but theres no tone in text of course lol. Happy new year
@ Happy new you to you. Thanks for taking the time to comment 👍
Easy use metal for everything if not ise regular
