3-Day Solo Survival (5 Gallon Bucket Challenge!) - Eating Only What I Catch
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 тра 2024
- I survive 3 days on whatever I can stuff into a 5 gallon pale (with the lid closed). I manage to fit some pretty cool things inside this odd shaped container including an axe, saw, and some pretty amazing traps. I will catch fish, trap animals, and build a shelter. Featuring Bass Pro Shops.

In a true stranded/emergency situation where you didn’t have a filter, the tarp water is preferable to the creek water for sure. But if you’ve got a filter and aren’t truly stranded there’s no way I’d drink water runoff just for a UA-cam video 😆
@@AdventuresMadeFromScratch BINGO! A tarp can be covered in all kinds of issues. Look at your car, you've got bird poop all over that thing, you wouldn't lick water off it, anymore than drink water from a ditch unfiltered.
All those "overnight bird droppings"...I guess birds don't poop in the creek? What about fish poop, raccoon poop?
Maybe just admit you made a mistake.
In an ACTUAL survival situation, with no other options, tarp water for sure.
Tarp rain water especially rain overnight, over creek water every single time. I think every survivalist would make the same decision!!
I'm not drinking any water without boiling it personally. If I had a life straw I would use it only for a travel situation.
Why would you not harvest and save that rain water for drinking and cooking? Especially when seconds later you used your life straw to gather water. 😂
"Bird poop" 😅
@@ChirpyMikeI think I would take the potential for bird poop whatever potentially could collect on the tarp versus what is already in the Stream you don't know if a couple hundred feet up the stream from you a big carcass from an Elk or something could be in the water yes a LifeStraw does a lot for purifying but I'll take the the potentially less contaminated tarp water when it's available over creek water.
Dude, you drink bird poop? That's not healthy, man. You laugh at people who don't?

Let’s see your survival channel
So glad to see you feeling good enough to be back at it. Thanks
Happy to be your company on your adventures.
Great video. I'd have drank that rain water that pooled on your tarp before hitting the creek. No sense wasting good rain water!
So glad you pointed out trapping isn't profitable anymore. To make 3,000 dollars a month you would need 1000 of those raccoons. That is hard to do even if they were overpopulated in that area. Everyone farms everything now. It is just the cheapest and most efficient way to do it.
Thanks for the video WB
I'm putting a bottle of Woodobo in my bucket. I need the season.
Raccoons were considered food in the old days. As long as you remove the musk glands it taste pretty good when baked with sweet potatoes
I’m pretty sure I told you already. I really admire your prowess with survival and outdoors Chris 🐸🍺🔪🔥
Absolutely love the long form survival videos!!!
Really loving this lil series. Always been a huge fan of these limited kit survival challenges. Hope to see more soon. Have a great day man!
Awesome and outstanding as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
*The tarp is dirty - it's been on the floor of my car for 2 years.*
So very happy to see the new video, been missing you and your content, glad your back man, you're one of my all time favorites
"lovely!!!" Lol. Awesome video
Love these vids. No plug in mugs, no microwaves. Thank u for the content
Ive been watching you for years, live you and your family.
Love
An outstanding first video this series. I’ll be looking forward to the next one. Cheers Chris.🤙
More wooded beardsman!!!
Chris I would hope you remembered to pack some WOODOBO maybe in a plastic bag as not to take up much space? After it's only $ 5.00 US. It can make day old sunk taste good! Well maybe not, but everything else. You da man dude!
True! I didn't put any in the pail because it could attract pests which would be compelled to dig it up!
Bravo! Great show, Mr Beardsman!!!
my favourite kind of videos ! awesome stuff man
Raccoon is good. I'm nearly 70 years old. When I was young many families in the Ozarks ate Raccoon, and Ground Hog.
I'm surprised that you didn't utilize the collected rain water on the tarp
For what, washing my hands?
Oh hes back hell yeah
Dude the tarp had all that potable water!
Rainwater isn't safe after it his a tarp - which can have bird poop or worse, on it.
A+ content, watch every single video. Big fan!
Good video Chris. Your shelter seemed to hold up well in the rain you got! You drained a lot of water off of it. I'm happy that the Raccoon turned out good! I like how thorough you are when explaining things your doing since I'm not a hunter, I do learn things from you watching your videos pretty cool man!
That racoon looked delicious!
Thanks for the video Chris!
You had all that run off water from your tent why didn't you drink that
nice. like a mini-series
Dumps rainwater from his tarp, then drinks creek water with a lifestraw.
Genius.
Isnt rainwater without the minerals?
Lifestraw water is safer than tarp water.
Rainwater straight from nature isn’t as safe as you think.
@@Wildernessquestoutdoors it is if you use a lifestraw
Nice harvest of the raccoon!
Great series!!
love this type of content keep it up ♥️
Best way I have found to prepare Raccoon: Boil it tender, then either cook with tomato juice and canned veggies or pan fry it. essentially cooking it twice. Good eating.
Glad to see your videos again. Hope you are feeling better!
another great video! thanks for the upload. that racoon looked amazing! i have never tried it, but that well done outside taste with the crispy fat taste outside is exactly how i like it. hope you enjoyed it all
have you ever given the sawyer squeeze filter a try? you can add a straw with it or add a bottle to it and carry dirty water around and filter it whenever you need it
More of videos like this. Eating wild life over a fire and doing survival. Keep em coming. Liked. Subscribed
And its gooood toooo! Hahahaha.
I’ve got the foothold traps🔥
I can't believe you dumped rainwater
Love how the racoons taste good 😊👍
WHY DIDNT YOU USE THE RAIN WATER OFF THE TARP????
Because I have a life straw, and needed to remove the water to stop the tarp getting damaged.
Water run off from a new tarp is nasty. If I had a life straw as an option I would definitely use that rather than drink chemical flavored tarp water. In a true survival situation where the straw isn't an option. then yeah...tarp water it is.
@@mightymaxx1 In a desert, yes, you would drink the tarp rain water. Creek water is rain water....it's all the same, needs to be treated.
Good video. Usually set up my tarp one corner high, so rain don't collapse it 🤔 but it's your camp.
It was because the roof didn't have enough slats, so the rain accumulated in between.
@@TheWoodedBeardsman AH, got it. Made the same mistake myself a couple of times.
I had beaver fever once. Nearly cost me everything. Well half of everything.
U shouldve put a whisker biscuit on your slingshot to shoot arrows for bigger game such as them turkeys
That's where that racoon came from🤣You can't get much past me mate 😉🤣
Ya, the b-roll was from later, just used in wrong spot. I'm going to fire my editor.
That hound of mine is fed, and my coffee cup is full, time for another episode with the bearded guy! Rolling footage!
Depending on where you’re at. A lot of handguns can be used to harvest big game
If the water is questionable in a stream like that, you can go 4 to 5 feet from it and dig a hole and wait. The water that seeps into that will be cleaner
Why not drink the rain water on the tarp first? With the straw of course.
Lmaooo you did not eat that raccoon 😂 not slick buddy
That rain was fresh water!
Sorry...I should say some nice things too. Back for video 2! Also show us the pond!
Enjoy your long vids. Hope the family is well!
No, it's contaminated. The tarp is old and dirty.
Wouldn’t it have been safer to drink the rain water on the tarp with the life straw?
It would be about the same, perhaps slightly cleaner.
@@TheWoodedBeardsman glad to see you posting again. I’d love to see another 7 day challenge or 30 day challenge. May God continue to bless you
Awesome brother! Woodchuck speidies I make a lot, try it!!!
Also, how are Courtney and Nolan doing if you don't mind me asking.
Everyone is doing great!
I have had Beaver fever it sucks clean water is key.
why didnt you just dip the lifestraw in the water on your tarp. rain water is pretty ok to drink.. would have save you the trip to get water ,.
Tarp water is not more safe to drink that creek water through a lifestraw, and the creek is full of water, whenever I need it.
Try opossum I love eating them and Neat fact they glow pink under a UV light.
Hey your channel and you and modern selfreliance and GERAMY ARE GUINNESSES
Good to see you're getting in the woods and posting content.
Did you ever get answers on what was causing your gut issue?
Not really. Bit of GERD, heart burn, possible gut microbiom issues. I'm off meds now, still have heart burn if I lay down, and bloating. I've tried almost everything, and it's improved to stable, but not back to normal. Probiotics made it worse, yogurt seems to help a bit. So trying to get gut health back. Challenging.
Tried tossing salad? Seems cheaper than a transplant.
Appreciate it Chris. I always love your... "surthrival"lol videos.

Hunh. You just dumped a gallon of pure rainwater off your tarp...then, used your lifestraw on the creek. Please explain?. Sorry, I missed your opening comment.makes sense.
The tarp isn't clean. There is bird poop all over it.
Why would you waste all that fresh water?
What are you hoping to catch in the conni bear trap?
I have been asked by the owner to remove certain pest species from the property, so anything goes. Skunk, I will process down for bait, raccoon is edible, but not preferred, possum might wander in. Some accidentals would be tasty like rabbit, or squirrel.
How many of each trap would you consider ideal if you weren't experimenting on how they compared ect. I'm mainly askinf about it from a weight/efficiency/usability perspective. I suppose the environment you are in would factor in.
I would say you would want a dozen of each trap honestly. But you would be bound to a canoe. Which is exactly how Canada was settled. But, as you deploy your traps in an area, your boat gets lighter.
So why dump the fresh rain water and drink nasty water?
The creek water tastes good, could be dirty, but the tarp water also has a concentration of bacteria. Could have squirrel dooky in it, or bird droppings. Nothing is 100% safe.
they are best bbqd here in missouri usa
Hey man, LOVE your videos. Just a quick question:
You tipped all that water off your tarp, then used your life straw to get water. Would it not be better to reserve the life straw for when rainwater is not available?
I wouldn't drink rain water from a tarp if I had a way to purify it. Tarp water could be as dirty, or more dirty than creek water because there are all kinds of contaminants on a tarp.
I read somewhere that it was called famine food.
❤❤❤🎉

giggity?
❤️👌
You just had very fresh and clean rain water on your tarp from the rain and you just tipped it and decided to drink from the river with the filter tube but I would have kept the rain water on your tarp mate it was very clean water, ☔️⛺️ survival tips 101
Tarp water isn't clean. You can not trust rain water. That tarp isn't clean.
Ferrets would fit in a 5 gallon bucket.
But they would die when you buried it.
@@TheWoodedBeardsman I know you mentioned trying to fit a dog in and I looked over at my ferret and thought, he will fit and kill small animals, then bring it back to show you.
Even if there wasn't a way to fit in a metal container couldn't it have been easier to fit in a food grade plastic bag to collect water in? Then you could drink from the bag with the filter instead of needing to bend down to drink from the creek and you coul bring water with you so you didn't need to visit the water source everytime you were thirsty.
There has to be a million videos from established world renowned bushcrafters . And you built the crapiest frame ever for your shelter . But props for putting it in the video , and admitting it wasn't good .
I didn't have 3 months to build the structures you think take 10 minutes because of editing. While using power tools.
What temperature is considered cold enough for the meat to be okay to sit out overnight?
10C and below, I would say that would be ok. Beaver. muskrat in cold water is fine up to 25C, fur on, no damage to the pelt. Deer up to 10-20C overnight in shade, cleaned and packed right away....BUT, this may spoil in direct sunlight. You really need to use your nose, and judgement, and everything after matters, meat needs to be eaten right away or frozen. As it will begin to spoil as soon as you open it up, provide it with any air. If the meat just falls apart when you touch it...even if it smells ok, it's not. Time after meat spoils is crucial, because it's not the meat that's the problem, it's the BACTERIA which is literally pooping out toxins on the meat that is the problem - even if you cook it, the toxins are still there, and they will cause you problems.
Is there a reason you didn't drink the rain water you collected on the tarp overnight? They use to serve Raccoon at the White House many many years ago.
Tarp could have a higher concentration of bacteria, such as bird droppings washing down the tarp of squirrel, mouse, and certainly bacteria concentration in it. Either way, water needs to be treated.
@@TheWoodedBeardsman Thanks for the info... That is a good point.
I wouldn’t characterize this a survival challenge with “Minimal Tools” I mean you had everything needed to camp out comfortably 😅
That was pretty much the idea. But I would have for sure added a sleeping bag, if i could fit one, and a few other things that wouldn't fit, like a pot, frying pan, food. But whatever.
I heard that porcupine was ok eating. But probably not good for trapping right?
Porcupine is legal all year.
Hey The Wooded Beardsman,
I just watched your video and I must say it's really helpful and well made.
I was wondering if I could help you design your thumbnails for better CTR? Wanna try out a free one?
i chopped up a couple of raccoon in my time and they were always so greasy. like 3-4inch of fat all around! also the leather is also full of fat. i tried to run my pelt thru wood chips inside a tumbler for a while and even then when i touch it my hands are all oily. (fur was originally washed with dish soap 3times)
🍻🍻
After you scrape do you tan the hides? That could raise the value and is not too time consuming if you just let the chemical processes do their work
Turning them into hats, belts gloves, that's the real money
I still doubt you would make anything close to minimum wage when all is factored in. There simply isn't an interest in fur at all. Nearly zero demand. Every step of the way is labor and time, nothing about it is easy.
@@TheWoodedBeardsman that's for sure you can hit up the rendezvous and the powwows in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho
My 70 year old uncles still do well with brain tan hides, and Elkhorn arrowhead napping
They have been doing it for 60 years and were trained by the natives
The good old days when every lad had a horse and every kid had a rifle
Before we relied on the Boy Scouts of America ... oh wait
would love a community post if you got sick or not
I haven't gotten sick using the lifestraw yet!
Well now, that was weird. He had so much fresh water from the rain and he got rid of it and went to drink from a stream😮
The world has too many tarp lickers!
Glad to see you back! All thats been coming out recently is the Australians "surviving" by taking their 500k boat to go deep sea fishing and drink coconuts island hopping😂 "surviving" like damn.. wonder what their vacations look like then
Ya, those are some interesting videos! :)
good luck with c 63

I would gladly pay you 20 bucks for that pelt
Silly man throws away pure rainwater and sucks on nasty stuff…shakes head…especially if he boiled rainwater guaranteed pure!
I'm still going to use the life straw in rain water. Not you?
I remember Canadian Prepper said that was about to make content with you. It didn't work out with you guys?
Just never got together, is all.

So you let me down why did you waste that clean rain water it was a better option then river water
I'm not so sure about that. I say they are about the same.
