      Those vintage brass peacock ones are gorgeous. I used to think they were really kitschy but now they're quite appealing. From the 70s. And you'll need a little fence for the baby.

      Lol a comment for another post on here. There is a metal mess to help keep leaves out. I love helping new owners . I so clean you got fire place checked and repaired. Those cracks could of let sparks in to you walls. I'm wondering if the the gasoline was cut to avoid risk during earthquakes, but didn't you have a gas stove.
      As a new homeowner and parents not renter have you made your earthquake emergency kit and most importantly list of steps. Like after checking people turn off the gas lines at the metter so have a wrench in your bag included to do this. You may end up needing shutting off water if line breaks. Besure to include or place the tool were you can get to it. Being prepared is good include a throw down latter for out window on top floor for EQ or fire or lost stairs blocking your escape.
      Gardening is enjoyable and a lot of time to do. It's great you were gifts so many well growing plants.

I've always watched you and other channels like you, doing what I wish I could be doing, I feel slightly inadequate for not succeeding in the ways you have, but your comments commending mothers and talking about how hard it is to manage everything, helped me realize it would have been impossible to grow a following like you have while managing everything else. Usually carving/decorative pumpkins are bred differently from pumpkins bred for consumption. They don't have nearly as much flesh and the taste and texture are not as good. You can buy roasting pumpkins in the US during the fall they're just not the same thing.

Your friend Gerri try this ice I swear by it and then the other thingis if you buy fresh bananas take just playing wax warm it in the microwave and dip the stock of the bananas in wax and they will last longer! These are some good tips. My grandmother taught me your friend Gerri.

    Your fireplace will definitely heat your home, but I just wanted to share a fun fact that I learned in architecture school- when you have a fire going, it takes the air from within your house to keep the fire going, and then the majority of the warm air goes up through the chimney. This air going up, leaving your house, creates negative pressure within your home and air from outside is pulled in through any/all of the cracks and crevices in your windows, around your front door, etc. and actually brings in cold air from outside. I was mind blown when I learned this!

    • @lfuentes4098
      @lfuentes4098 17 днів тому +4

      My 1926 cottage has the chimney on an exterior wall. At the bottom of the brick chimney, where you put the logs, there’s a grate that pulls cold air up from bellow. When I go outside at the base of the brick chimney there’s another metal grate with a door. This is where you clean out the ashes and obviously the area where the cold air from outside come in to keep the fire going. I wonder if these also pull cold air into the house like you mentioned ? 🤔

      We have a wood burning fireplace also, and I love it! I never burn wood though, I use the Duraflame logs. Dont buy the cheap kind or outdoor campfire mind, they will make your area smell weird. I usually only use one, and it allows me to have a beautiful, more controlled fire for about three or four hours, without the worries of sparks, or alot of extra heat, it just gives so much safe ambiance during the holidays, or early morning with my coffee, or in the evening, before I go to bed and not have to worry about the wood, since it only lasts 3 or 4 hours. Though I always keep the vent open until fire is completely done and totally cold ash, and I put an additional, portable screen up when I go to bed, just in case. I'm excited for you...enjoy !!!

    • @elizabethelias9894

    • @GodessSiri
      @GodessSiri 17 днів тому +3

      I have an eco fireplace that is superefficient because it has a double walled chimney. The inner tube draws outside air in to provide oxygen to fuel the fire and the smoke goes up the outer tube. All the air exchange/pressure change happens inside the chimney and firebox so it's all contained. As the cold outside air is drawn down the inner tube it's surrounded by the hot air in the outer tube and by the time it reaches the firebox it's super-heated. Usually when you burn wood it gives off gasses that go straight up the chimney but with mine when the super-heated oxygen rich air hit those gasses they ignite so you get extra heat from the gas.
      I got talked into spending about 2k more than I'd planned to when I replaced my old fireplace but I've never regretted it, I use a third less wood than a traditional fireplace, so it's more than paid for itself in the 8 winter I've used it.

    The roots of the mums are probably still alive, we have been able to save most of our "crispy" mums over the years, We just trimmed off all the crispy stuff and watered enough to keep them alive and put them in the ground. It will help next year if you keep them watered daily. Next year wipe down the pumpkins with some Clorox water and they most likely will be good at last a few weeks longer than this year...might survive until Thanksgiving. Your porch was beautiful. :)

    You are going to enjoy using the Duraflame logs. You'll still need to professionally clean the fireplace as creosote will build up inside the chimney. We used Duraflame logs for many years, then switched to gas logs. There are many styles and varieties of "wood logs" to choose from when using gas. Enjoy your cozy family evenings!

      I ended up going gas, too. Fire at a touch of the remote whenever you want one. And no staying up, waiting or the fire and embers to die down so you feel safe enough to go to bed. Just another press on the remote! And no clean up of messy ashes, etc

    I have a wood burning fireplace. It's amazing. When you have the service people come ask them to put a screen to the top of the chimney. It prevents any animal to get in.

    RE: Gardening…I would highly encourage you to start. I didn’t start until 3 years ago when we bought a house in Los Angeles county, and I find it very rewarding. My 3 top tips are: 1. Walk around your neighborhood and see what others have planted. I have found that the soil in my area does not support certain plants, so I elected to plant our yards in containers and raised beds. 2. Go to your local nursery (I use Armstrong) and see what they offer in the way of plants: if it grows there, it should grow in your yard. 3. Some plants grow in full sun/partial sun/shade. Pay attention to this and plant accordingly. Good luck!

    Storage cabinet: You want to be careful when any structure is against your exterior wall, even a window box. If water is running against the wall or trapped behind the box, you can degrade your exterior wall.

    Really wish you would come out with a wax melt line of your candle scents. We had a fire in our home several years ago so we are very wary of having anything with an open flame in our home, but we love wax warmers and have several throughout our home. I would love to be able to experience the different scents in your line, they seem like they would be so lovely. Food for thought.😊
