As nostalgic as Y2K style is to me, I’m glad we were out of that era by the time I started getting into fashion. As a petite myself, I’m so with you on this 😂
I’m 5’ 7” with a long torso. And I thank you for this. Early 2000’s was a brutal time for me fashion wise. I’m just thankful that I’m older this time around with Y2K fashions because I know what I like and what works for my lifestyle and body type.
I’m 5”2 and I agree with all of this. ☺️ so much trial error & money wasted when I was young, the miniskirts & low rise just reminds me of butt cracks& belly pooch. 😅 awful time period
Being 5’ tall, I was so happy when high rises came back. I ran out and got a bunch of trousers and jeans, and cropped shirts, because as the style changes, I don’t want to be left without these choices. The small bags were also an opportunity. I went micro, but also medium small. I knew designers were going to swing to the opposite soon enough. That is how they keep us buying. These huge bags are their bombshell signal that they are flipping the script, so we all go larger like lemmings. There are other little changes we can make to stay current while honoring our own proportions, such as tailoring new colors and styles to fit us better.
The reemergence of the Y2K style makes me feel the same way that my mom did when the 70’s style came back around in my younger years! Whyy?! 😂 I’d much rather look timeless and classy as you always seem to.
You are so right! I have a super long torso and shorter legs, and the low slung pants look horrible on me. I’m so happy with my high rise pants. By the way, you seem so open, comfortable, and confident in this video and I love your personality. I haven’t watched one of your videos in a while and I was excited to see this one in my feed
i’m so glad this video came out at the right tome for me. All the y2k fashion trend makes me very hesitant, there are stuff i love, but I know that my small stature cannot pull it off
I'm pretty happy with the mid-lower rises. I have a shorter waist and these high rises and ultra high rises have been brutal for me. They make me look like I have a long bum from the back, a mom pooch from the side, and squat/pudgy from the front. The lower rise magically makes me look longer and leaner.
Love your channel. 💕 Thank you. For years it was virtually impossible to buy high rise jeans, skirts and trousers. I remember in the early nineties the selling point for low and mid rise was ‘they lengthen your legs’ which was totally untrue but a statement used by designers and manufacturers. So frustrating for those of us who knew it was untrue and it took a long time for high rise to finally return to the shops.
I went to high school in the 70s and I wore a Jean that was a high-rise and full leg. Underneath I had on a very high wedge. I was so happy because I was about 4 inches taller. I’m 5 foot two in around 140 but I’m also 66 years old. I really enjoy your channel because I like to get tips from women who have a similar body type.
Oh. No. All those ‘trends’ are horrible! Even if we weren’t petite! As a very petite (4’11”), with short legs, I end all the help I can get! Thanks a million, Bethany!❤️🌹
Those knee length skirts are unfortunately the most common length for a professional pencil skirt in stores. I desperately need a slightly longer black one
If you can get a higher waist or at waist pencil skirt you can have it hemmed to hit just above the knee. With nude heels it can still look professional without being frumpy.
instead of that, I opt for a slight flowy midi skirt paired with the right shoes, they can look professional but still lovely for my proportion. im 5'2
Thanks Bethany for this video...i tooo was a fan of baggy pants..n big bags during my those days..🤪..wen i look back ..i feel like laughing at my own style.....and now after following you...my style has completely changed...thanks a million......
I have a longer torso as well. I found that a small tote, or handbags in general, that is longer on the vertical side is more suitable than the ones longer on the horizontal side.
great tips!! the tip about not wearing stuff that ends right at a joint is awesome and ive never heard it before!! you also look so glowy and vacation tan!!
I always heard that trends come back every 30 years and I was so ready for early 90's style to come back in. I feel cheated! Y2k can go straight to hell 😭
Your style Bethany is so beautifully classic and yet a modern twist at times. Classic style is in my Opinion the best EVER! Love your channel from one shortie to another 🙌🤜 Blessings from Oregon 🙏
It's very thoughtful of you to add the note that sometimes we want to lengthen and/or create vertical symmetry, and sometimes we want to play and aren't worried about those things. I aim for visually lengthening my legs most days but, as someone who was 15 at Y2K, I have such a soft spot for enormous JNCOs that drag on the ground, with a baby tee and a backpack covered in pins.
Hearing you say "Y2K" has made me feel all nostalgic, now I want to play on my old Nintendo 64. I definitely don't miss the fashion though. Some of those baggy jeans were heavy and tough to skateboard in. Lol those were the days!
What a lovely video❤️ could you make one around workwear bags that are stylish? My style is very similar to yours but I struggle with my handbags/rucksacks. I tend to grab a tote or my fjallraven backpack but I’d love to get something more elevated.
I understand what you mean. I'm 154cm with a long torso and short legs and i'm so happy that now we can find high rise pants everywhere as some years back they were very hard to find.
Ok, I don't have the body proportions that this video addresses but I just have to say I loved it! You are super sweet and the real story about the big bag with the broken strap, so refreshing! What we usually hear in these kinds of vids is allways something like "true story, I was walking in a Chanel store (...) mortifyied, etc. ". You kept it real, simple and classy, thank you
Bethany, always love your videos! Can you please upload a video on an updated jewelry collection? I started invested on some pamela card's necklaces and would love to see more similar recs.
Oversized bag / tote is a no-no. Use a laptop bagpack. Then use another bag to put other things. Don’t put so much on one bag. Tote/shoulder bag can hurt your shoulder
I do love a loose pant. But I think I can get away with it a little as I am a strong inverted triangle. Especially if I got dark on top and lighter at bottom.
Fantastic tips. 5'6 here, long torso and short legs. Took me ages to realise that I had to get on to high rose trousers rather than ultra low rise (early 2000s, Britney's low rise jean look was everything🤣) just not for my body!!
Need to do some photos to see this effect play out on me. Baggy pants confuse me but so do cigarette skinnies though I like them in capris! Must go and think about all of this.... Thanks Bethany! Have a great weekend! 🦋🦋♥️🌍🌎🌏🕶️J
Thank you I totally agree with everything you have said, that is what I do when I select my outfits according to my shape. Also I agree with you about the size of your handbag. 5 stars this video
"but when you are small, like me, this doesn't look ironic. This looks like any bag you are normally trying to carry that is too big for you." This one hit too close to home lol it's soo hard for me to find a backpack for my day to day use that makes me not look like a dwarf but also fit a gaming laptop 😂
These huge bags look like I´m carrying my sleeping bag with me. If I want to sleep, I can go right inside this bag. I tend to go for small to medium handbags and If I need to carry many things with me: backpack, there are also some stylish ones.
Thank you for such a great video! ❤️ I was wondering if you have a or could do a video on styling skirts for the office ? I feel like mini skirts makes me feel a little immature and I have no idea how to style midi’s for a professional look
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!!!!!! As another millennial who was in middle and high school during the og Y2K clothing boom, I beg you all to please listen to Bethany and not make the same mistakes we did!!! You may feel cute now - but trust me - you'll regret it all later!!!!!
Hi Bethany, have you got the “correct” styles that are featured on the right side of the video somewhere so I can stop and have a look at them in more detail? Like saved in a Pinterest or something. I follow yours but also love the “short girl outfit inspo” pics that you display on here. Thanks M x
oh and how cold those wide leg jeans are when you live where it's sub zero in the winter. if you wear them, wear some long johns under them in the winter. take it from someone who has been there.
my bags..are the size they need to be. clutch size if all i need is wallet keys, and phone, big enough but no bigger for laptop, binder, folders. planner.
Hi Bethany I love your videos and thankful for all the ideas you keep sharing with us. I myself have short legs, I would love to wear high rise jeans but the problem is I have a mommy pouch that shows on a high rise jeans. Could you share any ideas about that? Thanks and more power❤️
What would you recommend a good tote bag be to carry? Currently Im obsessed with some of the totes (not the extremely huge ones as you showed a bit normal sized lol) as its very pretty with summer beachy outfits.
I would wear clothes and I never understood why I would look so bad in pictures and it was because my clothes weren’t flattering for my shape. I would see my favorite celebrities wear certain styles then I would by it but they have different body shapes and I just assumed you can wear what you wanted and it will look good no matter what 😅
As nostalgic as Y2K style is to me, I’m glad we were out of that era by the time I started getting into fashion. As a petite myself, I’m so with you on this 😂
Absolutely, Ella!
I looked horrible in that
Unfortunately it's getting back ! 😞

I’d much rather look timeless and classy as you always seem to.
Also the vocals at the end are absolutely stunning! Please tell me you’ve got a full version out somewhere!?
Working on posting it soon, along with others!
You are so right! I have a super long torso and shorter legs, and the low slung pants look horrible on me. I’m so happy with my high rise pants. I can’t get enthusiastic about Y2K fashion. I look like a stump in straight leg jeans😁

Same here. I'm 62 and graduated in 1978 and wore wide leg Hash jeans and platform shoes.
Oh. No. All those ‘trends’ are horrible! Even if we weren’t petite! As a very petite (4’11”), with short legs, I end all the help I can get! Thanks a million, Bethany!❤️🌹
I'm 4'11 too...Y2K horrified me😭
I’m 4’10”! I’d love to know what works for you guys.
same here

Great tips! I love your new hair color. Would you do a vid on hair care? Your hair is super healthy.
I’d be interested in seeing you cover the Kibbe body types, and doing an experiment to see if the recommendations do anything for your style!
Thanks Bethany for this video...i tooo was a fan of baggy pants..n big bags during my those days..🤪..wen i look back ..i feel like laughing at my own style.....and now after following you...my style has completely changed...thanks a million......

I love your content. It is spot on. I also have short legs, short arms, long torso. It has taken me years to make good decisions for my body type. 😊
This feels so calm in a way and the birds chirping on the background is too adorable ❤️
Thanks for mentioning about carrying bags. All your videos are really useful for me.
great tips!! the tip about not wearing stuff that ends right at a joint is awesome and ive never heard it before!! you also look so glowy and vacation tan!!
I always heard that trends come back every 30 years and I was so ready for early 90's style to come back in. I feel cheated! Y2k can go straight to hell 😭
Yep. Straight to hell, do not pass go!
Extremes are not classic.
Trendy is okay if you want to look dated.
In any case, wearing what flatters *you* will always be stylish!
Your style Bethany is so beautifully classic and yet a modern twist at times.
Classic style is in my
Opinion the best EVER!
Love your channel from one shortie to another 🙌🤜

Same! The nostalgia is so strong 🙂💖
Ok love that you’re doing your own vocals! Amazing!
Hearing you say "Y2K" has made me feel all nostalgic, now I want to play on my old Nintendo 64.

You should be a judge and mentor on Project Runway!
Thanks for this video. I would really love to see a video with Y2K outfits/trends/ideas that a lady with short legs could pull off.
You do your own vocals too!? That's awesome 😊 Love your style and your guidance so much - beautiful and so helpful. From a fellow 5'1 girl x
I always find your videos to be very helpful. Thank you!😊 I hope you’re doing well!💗
Bethany, always love your videos! Can you please upload a video on an updated jewelry collection? I started invested on some pamela card's necklaces and would love to see more similar recs.
Omg and could you do a video on how to wear sweater vests in each season? 😍
Your videos makes my day! Thanks for your useful tip
Oversized bag / tote is a no-no. Use a laptop bagpack. Then use another bag to put other things. Don’t put so much on one bag. Tote/shoulder bag can hurt your shoulder
On the subject of trends, I'd like to know your take on crochet garments for petites. The styles often look incredibly bulky or anything but classy.
I do love a loose pant. But I think I can get away with it a little as I am a strong inverted triangle. Especially if I got dark on top and lighter at bottom.

Thank you for looking out for me and my short legs and long torso!
This all makes so much sense.
I really wish the Y2K trend wasn't coming back around again, I was there first time and it did me no favours 😫😂.
Ahhh your hair Is so nice
Thanks so much Bethany, your vidéos are clear, friendly and very useful😍
You have such great ideas and approach to proportion and style!
Need to do some photos to see this effect play out on me. Baggy pants confuse me but so do cigarette skinnies though I like them in capris! Must go and think about all of this.... Thanks Bethany! Have a great weekend! 🦋🦋♥️🌍🌎🌏🕶️J

I can't believe people wear those super big bags! Like what do they put in there? Their whole wardrobe? It's insane haha 😅😅
Hahaha so true
Speaking from the last Y2K round, I used to keep my dslr in my bag. This was before phones had good cameras.
Bethany, could you share with us your favorite bags or thoughts about some good quality bags(styling)?
The room design I love it.
Fabulous video for us shorties. (I missed this type of video from you 2) 😉
So helpful... Thank you so much ... Keep doing good work

Oh my! I can fit into those bags!
Hey Beth can we get a zara recommendation for shorter gals?
Look for high waisted, ankle length or cropped jeans/trousers.
Omg I love the top you’re wearing! Where is it from!? 💜💜
Hi Bethany! I heard your voice at the end of the video, beautiful! Reminded me of Enya! ❤️
haha, the boys in knew growing up used to call those skirts belts.
Love it, helps me a lot. Thank you Dearly Bethany
Watching here in Philippines
Great tips 👍👍 great video

Thank you for such a great video! ❤️ I was wondering if you have a or could do a video on styling skirts for the office ? I feel like mini skirts makes me feel a little immature and I have no idea how to style midi’s for a professional look

How about high waist trousers?
oh and how cold those wide leg jeans are when you live where it's sub zero in the winter. if you wear them, wear some long johns under them in the winter. take it from someone who has been there.
Thanks Bethany I do wear skirts to my knees think I’ll start wearing bit longer great tips 👍

Bethany, darling! Another amazing video. What brand is the shirt you’re wearing? ♥️ thanks love !!
Thanks Sonia! It's from Doen
Hi Bethany may I ask wear do you buy your high rise denim pants? I love all your videos. More power😘
Hi Bethany I love your videos and thankful for all the ideas you keep sharing with us. I myself have short legs, I would love to wear high rise jeans but the problem is I have a mommy pouch that shows on a high rise jeans. Could you share any ideas about that? Thanks and more power❤️
Thank you for this content
I am late to this video so I dont know if you'llsee this but hoping you do. Where is your top from? I love it!
I have never ever cared about trends. The only bummer is that trends dictate what is available to purchase in stores.
You are so beautiful! Same me short legs!
I’m 4 10 and 40 years old, definitely not going to be wearing micro mini skirts!!! I do wear lots of paper bag shorts and pants!!
What would you recommend a good tote bag be to carry? Currently Im obsessed with some of the totes (not the extremely huge ones as you showed a bit normal sized lol) as its very pretty with summer beachy outfits.
Where is your top from 😍 ps- I was trying to remember who your voice reminded me of and it’s Imogen heap 🥰 beautiful!
I used to carry a large hand bag, and the comment I always received was, “You could always hide inside your bag” 🤣
I REALLY miss the bootleg with heeled boots trends for little legs
I know! They don't look good at the moment but wider legged chinos etc do work for me
I think Y2k trends are for teens and young adults. I will let them have fun with retro stuff. I will stick to contemporary !
Great topic♥️😀
Love your tips so much
Hi Bethany, just have a question what height is considered "small/petite?" thank you! 😊
below 5’4
Petite here too at 5'0
I would wear clothes and I never understood why I would look so bad in pictures and it was because my clothes weren’t flattering for my shape. I would see my favorite celebrities wear certain styles then I would by it but they have different body shapes and I just assumed you can wear what you wanted and it will look good no matter what 😅
Ur so helpful
I swear, the fashion industry loved low rise cause it cuts cost. less material, fewer hemming in seam work, etc. it wasn't about the style
