Thanks, I just followed this video and did mine this morning. Only thing with final assembly, I had to spin the prop to get the lower end to close the gap to get the bolts back in....
I'm glad that my video was useful to you. Regards
Good idea testing the impeller with a drill.
Great vid. Thanks for posting. I dig the tunes. It's the perfect suppressant for my infamous angry mechanic outburst syndrome or "infamous amos", a made up disorder that I was first self-diagnosed with just now.
Glad that you like it
Thanks a lot
Fantastic video! Just what I needed. Thanks!
Glad that you like it
Thanks a lot
Great video however your impeller photo shows "clockwise direction" yet your arrow goes counter clockwise.... Not sure if you saw that....
Thank you so much for this
Thanks a lot
I just pulled the powerhead off my 85 johnson 15hp. I was lucky. It popped off like eggs in a teflon pan.
I was Given an '85 15 hp.
Fired right up yesterday
strong water pissed out then slowed
gonna pull things apart today
good luck to us both
Yep that gel results from a chemical reaction between alcool (ethanol) and aluminum (the top part of the carbitrator is cast aluminum). Some refiners produce ethanol-free fuel but ALL add lots of additives in their product some of which vary according to the mean temperatures in the markets they are destined to. So who knows what was in the ''straight fuel'' you used !!! Anyway, I always thought that adding extra ethanol (which all these snake oils have) in any fuel just compounds the problem as it absorbs even more moisture (water) in the fuel. Regards !
This might be a stupid question but I'd rather be safe.. which direction did you have the drill going??? Thank you so much for your time and knowledge
Clockwise
Ok thank you.. I thought so but just wanted conformation
Thanks! Great!
Μπράβο ρε φίλε !!!
Ευχαριστώ!
I wish you would have continued the video and showed you reinstalling the lower unit together and were does the exhaust extention go can't make out the view in the repair manuel?
Don’t worry; it is a very simple disassemble/assemble. Proceed to disassemble and be careful to be not losing the small pin that holds the impeller.
no problem puting the pump together it's a 1999 15hp johnson long shaft so to link the shift shat together ya have to bolt the spacer to the bottom of the unit, theres a plastic spacer that fell out does that go on the water tube? someone took it apart befor e because the impeller wasn't 2 blabes facing each other
i have done a lot of lower units but not a long shaft small motor, now it shows what looks to be a short spacer is that suppose to connect the plastic extention to the pump?
@@mikeclements9611 I looked online but couldn't find the service manual, it has been withdrawn. The motor at my video is a long shaf motor. The motor was bought in USA and arrived in Greece meny years later (According to its records). It belonged to a friend of mine who brought it to me to change his impeller.
I will try to grease the water pump housing. I have been trying to install it dry, and didnt get any water peeing out the top. We also tried to do it with just the bottom part like you did, and we didnt get any water coming out. So i dont really know what to do if the grease dont help
Are you sure or check that the small keyway pin is in place?
Take a loock at 5:46. Use grease to keep keyway pin in place.
Awesome video. Thanks!
Son the top set of bolts where the key is to drop the lower unit. What wrench or socket type did you use? It’s so tight in between.
All wrenches are referred at the time line on video.
If the model is for Europe the wrenches are in mm and if is for USA then is at inch.
Hi mate have you ever replaced the copper tube that connects to the power head ?
Mines pretty manky and despite a new pump doesn’t provide reasonable water pressure. Has anyone done that job . Cheers Dave
Maybe you didn't place something correctly. Maybe the wedge that holds the impeller on the shaft fell off.
@@kessgr Thanks for the reply . I do have a stream of water that just isn’t as good as it should be . I’ve replaced the pump and cleaned up the components thoroughly. There is evidence that the pump has been “misaligned previously. I’ve reshaped the end of the tube and checked the fit before assembly. So yes the pump is functioning and is cooling the motor , however I have done this job before on similar motors I was expecting a stronger flow . I was only wondering what is involved in replacing the tube etc.
Cheers Dave
Why won't it drop after doing all that
Isn’t there a gasket that goes between the water pump housing and metal plate?????
No there isn’t any gasket between the water pump housing and metal plate (see the photo of service manual at 00:26) but there is a gasket under the metal plate (that I have replace it using instant gasket).
What kind of grease did you use
I have used a grease suitable for use at sea (Marine Grease).
You can get it from your local supplier/dealer.
Saludos tengo un motor de estos y quiero saber cual es el # de parte de el impeller
I don't remember the code number but it's the same for all Johnson / Evinrude 9.9 ~ 15Hp 2 Stroke models (1974 ~ 2007). Its very easy to find it at the market.
And what the heck were you thinking putting grease on the bolt threads??!! They need some kind of thread lock compound, not grease! Those bolts will back themselves out with just mild vibration. Don't do that people!!
If you don't grease the screws, then in one of the next changes of the impeller you will realize your mistake.
Where did you get that blue hose that goes from water pump to top?
It is air tube; you can find it at stores with PNEUMATIC COMPONENTS. But for this test you can use any hose just happens to have it, the critical is only the diameter of hose..
What is the name of this song?
The music is written by a friend of mine musician who is blind. It is called Stefanos Efraimidis. The name of the music is "Rain on guitar". The link of UA-cam chanel is ua-cam.com/channels/tM1C1nP1TgNi9Dra_bPBOw.html where you can find it.
You were only supposed to grease the inside of the metal cup where the impeller sits AND the impeller...NOT the bottom of the impeller housing.🤦♂️. The bottom of the impeller housing is where you put "Sealant"! Lmao
At the bottom plate of the impellers housing has used suitable sealant compaount.
