If you put the inside end of the spring through the slot where the out side end hooks. Put every thing together with the spring hanging out the slot. then you can twist the pulley feeding the spring in as you go. This way the starter housing holds the spring in place so it can't take off on you. Light the end of the rope, while it is hot grab the rope with a rag and pull the rope through the rag. It will leave you with a nice pointy end to stick through tight holes. CHEERS
I put new string on my recoil starter and when I tighten down the bolt it start to pull and i end up with slack. When i loses the bolt it recoils the rope. How do you add more tension to it so that doesn't happen
Where can I find the parts for this motor I need the little plastic peace or maybe everything it kept coming loose and falling off track until there were no teeth on the plastic part
I’ve got a little spring on the red pawl, it’s on the right of the frame at 6:04. Where does the little spring rest to keep red pawl off starter? Thanks!
@@harrisondoby5322i’m sure you fixed it by now but for anyone else with the same issue, it should rest on the left side of the red pawl, resting against the piece of metal that holds the spring
I have a question and I need an answer ASAP so basically I was trying to start this exact motor after sitting for a few years and 100th oil in the rope got stuck out and won’t go back in
I pulled my pull starter off to get to the carburetor , When I put it back on and tighten the bolt it lock it up . Do these 9.9 motors have a spacer or something undr them ?
How exactly do you know when the spring is bad? When I pull mine it just gets stuck on the fly wheel but doesn’t retract unless I physically turn the flywheel with my hand it get it off, but it won’t start it
Picking one up tomorrow same year and everything. Has the same issue with the pull start spring thanks for the video guess I'll be doing the same thing in a couple days! What kinda speed you getting out of it your boat looks wider than mine. I got a 1440 mod-v
It is a 1448 flat bottom. I’m not positive of the speed but I could get it up on plane with two people and a dog no problem. It struggled with three people. Great little motor, I think you’ll like it!

Thanks for the video Mark! Also love how when the video is sped up, every vehicle that goes by sounds like a V12 Lamborghini lol
Lol thanks
Thanks Mark! Very concise and easy to follow. All back together!
Thanks!

Thanks for posting up.
The piece of timber & a nail to help wind spring up & fitting to body - 👌
Thanks!
Thanks for the video. Safety glasses a must.
Agreed! Thank you!

The red piece that goes into the back of the pull start and acts as a stopper has a little metal spring can I ask you where that spring goes
I'm having issues with the same thing. I've seen a few videos that that piece wasn't on... maybe they took it off because it's a pain in the ass?
I’m having the same problem what is this thing called and what dose it do?

I had to eBay most stuff for this motor, unfortunately you just have to hope there is new old stock kicking around.
Como puedo obtener el manual de este motor.
Gracias.

You ever find out? Working on one’s as we speak man.

What is that red thing every time I pull mine it hits that I can’t find the name of the oart

I think mine did the same, just didn’t over tighten. Not sure if it originally had a spacer.
you missed the washer inside the case, under the spring. Either that or the bolt missed it. Been there done that.
I lost the washer that goes to the cup. $8 for an oem part. Do you know the size so I can pick one up for less tgan a dollar? Thank You!
Ahh no sorry I don’t have that motor anymore
@@markbuilds ok. Thank You!
What size pull start rope ? Or where you buy.

Mine physically broke. I’ve never had one just go bad
You didn't show the complete assembly
I have the same motor and have tried to change the rope. But it does not fit and come through the hole.
Weird. The diameter is to large? I guess you’ll have to try smaller. Not sure why that would have changed.
Try to put a wrap of electrical tape on the rope end for rigidity and to stop the rope from fraying..

I just picked up the same motor. Needs a few little parts. How has it ran for you?
Best motor ever! Small issues, but it always starts and runs!
I noticed that he forgot a washer if you go and forget the bottom washer it will lock it and the pull start will not work
Know where to get a rewind? Can't find one?
eBay has had all the parts I’ve needed! These springs seemed pretty available.

Awesome channel, I learned a lot from him
EBay
EBay
I’ve rebuilt mine several times and it still won’t rewind I can’t figure out for the life of me what is wrong
very nice thank you....got safety glasses?
They are around somewhere!
Next Time try an adjustable oil wrench instead of zip ties
A hard job
