  • Here it is! I included the registers, vocal control and any special skills. I did not include their specific vocal ranges but I talked about it shortly in the specific registers. This is not a hate video, as I'm of the opinion that all of the girls are incredibly talented. All hate towards Fifth Harmony will be deleted.

    Normani’s voice is so underrated. Because belting isn’t her biggest strength, doesn’t mean she’s not a good singer. Her voice is softer like Janet Jackson, Ciara and Aaliyah, it isn’t weak at all. Beyoncé can’t hit whistle notes but that doesn’t mean she can’t sing. Belting doesn’t make you a better singer, like Christina Aguilera can belt but she strains her voice. ITS ALL ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE. She has a lot of improvement to do, just like the rest of the girls. They have so much potential. Btw great video, it was very informative

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +53

      Yes! I don't want to throw people under the bus, but 99% of the people commenting think she's the worst vocalist in Fifth Harmony. It's a common misperception- powerful voice equals good vocalist. That's simply not true. Normani has so much potential, and with proper breath control, good posture and healthy vocal techniques, everyone can acquire a powerful voice. And thank you, I'm glad you liked it xx

    • @Gameworks1407
      @Gameworks1407 6 років тому +16

      Zac Alpha her entire mix is awful, just like Janet and Ciara. No matter how "weak" someone's voice is, a good vocalist keeps projection, tonal quality and support into the mix. Beyoncé may not be able to whistle but as a mezzo she hits soprano notes with better quality than most sopranos in head voice carrying a semi-operatic sound, placement and weight, with keeping her tonal quality, projection, resonance and support.

      The group, as a whole, isn't really a vocal powerhouse. They're definitely closer to "timbre singers", so it's fair to appreciate them as such, but that certainly doesn't change the fact that Lauren has a far better timbre than singing prowess.

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +27

      I'm just going to put this here: Timbre is subjective. There are people that are going to enjoy Normani's/Dinah's/Ally's tone more than Lauren's, and they won't be wrong. Another thing is that I have actually gotten loads of comments stating Lauren "is the best singer in the group by far". You guys might not think that way, but there are a lot of people out there who can't distinguish between timbre and vocal abilities. Thanks for your input xx

    I disagree with the classification but I do see the highs and lows of their voices , Normani is a lyric soprano with a soft tone and warm airy low register similar to Ciara, Ashanti, and Janet Jackson. Ally is a Full Lyric Soprano her high notes are very clean and crisp with a rock tinge similar to Nicole scherzinger her voice fits broadway plays. Dinah is a lyric mezzo-soprano she has a natural deep tone similar to Beyoncé, with a slightly light and full finish similar to Mariah Carey. Lauren is a Light lyric alto with a warm timbre, such as Alicia Keys and a progression of suttle high notes.

      Dinah is a soprano. Her voice sits a high tessitura, her lower register is pretty much non existent below and A3, and her voice starts to take of at the Bb4-B4 range while mezzos start to sound belty very earlier on in their range (usually around E4-F4).

    I already knew I was about to hear some hate about Normani ... Just because someone isn’t a belter , doesn’t mean you cannot sing .. & just because you can belt , doesn’t mean you can sing ... She thrives in her falsetto & lately , Normani has been taking risks & has been belting a little more .. Like Don’t Say You Love Me , Sauced Up , & her adlib in Down .. Normani has the best tone overall in the group & she’s NOT the weakest vocalist in the group .. just because your voice is soft , doesn’t mean you cannot sing .. She just needs to work on projection .. Her vocal control is amazing & she is very consistent .. She’s grown tremendously & she’s only gonna continue to shine .. don’t sleep on the Queen because she doesn’t belt ..

      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +33

      Hey there! That's not what I meant at all. While analysing Fifth Harmony, Normani has grown to be my favourite voice out of the group. What I meant was that she has a weak voice, as in, it's not as full as Laurens, for example. I explained in another video (which you didn't watch, so that's okay) that strong belts/a powerful voice do not equal a good vocalist. What I do think though is that Normani has the potential to develop her belts a whole lot more (which is also why I think all of the girls deserve better vocal coaches, because they all have a ton more potential), because every voice can generate a lot of power, with proper breath control, good posture and healthy vocal techniques. I'm sorry you misunderstood, I definitely don't think she's the weakest vocalist in the group (which is something I actually did mention in her intro).

    • @Gameworks1407

      Jontae Aamir it's not hate her low notes are also disappointing. It's not only that she doesn't belt good, she doesn't mix good either. So any note from F#4 and above in chest voice is a crap shoot. She doesn't use head voice, which is healthier. Her musicality is good, but her dynamics and agility are also bad. Plus side she has whistles.

      Mjsjeed she was playing and sing Mariah Carey lead the way run which is very hard but she messed up and she did it in falsetto but still it was impressive all you have to do is search Normani vocals or pay more closely to her when they perform a lot of her experiments with vocals live goes unnoticed and one example look up Normani kordai slaying miss moving on mic feed

    I know that Ally and Normani have the widest range in the group, of course Ally being the best vocalist, but I don’t like her overall tone. The only thing I like is her high notes, although sometimes she doesn't put any power behind her belt it’s just high so it sounds like she's screaming, and it has an unpleasant sound to me. Which is why I like Dinah’s belt more, much like Perrie Edwards she does put power behind her belt, and it's always loud and clear. I like Normanis voice. I just can’t hear her at times, and I think she lacks confidence on taking on high notes. For the note in I lied she lipped it until the end then she actually sang it. I do think she is capable of belting though. As for Lauren, i love her voice, but she's inconsistent at times and lack confidence. My favorite vocalist is Dinah because she has such a powerful voice. She also has improved with her breath control. Overall I prefer Dinah’s and Lauren’s voices even if they may have smaller ranges. I love their deep fierce tones. If I put my preferences aside I would say this is how I would rank vocally.
    1. Dinah (she has the strongest voice and has made some damn near excellent improvement on breath control. She has good technique)
    2. Ally (even if she’s more vocally capable I think she has a poor technique at time times, but she's got some killer high notes)
    3. Normani (she's the most consistent but sometimes she sounds unclear and hard to hear)
    4. Lauren (she has a sexy deep raspy tone but she is technically the least vocally capable)
    Sorry for my long ass comment

    Why didn’t you mention the song can you see ally if not all their voices are very controlled both in the studio and live version and i think it shows how much they’ve all improved especially ally with controlling their voices
    Or the down performance in jimmy Fallon are good examples of her controlling her voice

    I do not put much stock in these analysis because they are only paying attention to the types of songs that 5h is singing. If you pay attention to Mani in songs she is more incline to sing like cranes in the sky and don't touch my hair you hear clear and sustained high and low notes, her whistle note is even higher than Solange note in the original song and it is strong and sustained. She does runs and harmonies with herself and in fake love by drake her low note are sustained as well. I think it depends on the music they are singing and it goes for all the girls.

    People might recognize easily Lauren and also Camila (sorry for including her) bcoz their voice was unique, its actually rare rn in music industry. and i really love their voice since we are talking about pop genre here and they can still blend in the group. but I know that they're not the best vocals in 5h. They're awesome, their voice attracts majority of listeners but I am always amazed with Ally's voice and Dinah. I will not deny they're the best. Those high notes? I mean we cant compare all of them since they have diff type of voices and genre actually tho theyre pop group. Normani is actually in the middle, for me she's stable. she can do high and low notes. I watched their concert and trust me this 4 girls may not be the best vocalist but their voices blends and give so much emotions since they have diff voices. each of them including Camila.

    I have to ask. So I started singing around 9 or 10. I'm 14 now and I feel as if I'm improving because I like to sing along with the music and words testing to see where I am. I think that I'm a soprano because my voice is light. Is that really a healthy technique or I need actual practice? After watching this video and the Little Mix one I really feel that I have a chance.

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +3

      You can obviously try teaching yourself, but I'm not sure how good you are at that as I obviously have no idea what your vocal training looks like. I would however recommend you taking actual practice with a vocal coach, because you'd surely improve way more in a shorter period of time. I completely believe that you have a lot of potential, I just can't really judge without knowing a lot. Maybe you'll want to give me some more information?

    • @sabrinag9610
      @sabrinag9610 6 років тому +1

      Mjsjeed So I as I said, I like to sing along with the music and the words. It just depends on what songs I sing that I feel comfortable with where I feel my voice fits in that range. I like to do it with or without it. I skip to certain parts in the song. I started doing that a lot more when my friend once told me to sing with my diaphragm and not my throat. I don't know how to sing with diaphragm but I think I knew what she meant. Today, I feel as if I'm not singing through my throat as much. My friend told me this in 2016 or earlier in 2017. For me I find that my way to practice because without singing with the words and music it starts to sound similar, but I just don't know if I'm a soprano (or even what type) because they say that vocal range is hard to figure out.

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +2

      Okay so from what I get, you don't have a lot of knowledge about vocal techniques. That's okay, but I wouldn't recommend you to keep practicing on your own. Get help from an actual teacher, they're able to push you and let you showcase your potential. If you don't, please gather some more information. Singing through your diaphragm is really important, as is singing with an open throat. You need to start doing breathing exercises along with vocal practice. It's important because as with, say, athletics, you need to warm up before singing. Also do cool-down exercises, because if you stop singing abruptly, it WILL affect your voice. There are a whole lot of things you're gonna need to know if you don't take exercises, and I'm glad to help out. Please tell me if you're opposed to going to a vocal coach, because I'd try and continue to lead your way. (Best thing is still a vocal coach, but it's better than nothing)

    • @sabrinag9610
      @sabrinag9610 6 років тому +1

      Mjsjeed I rather want to do it online, because finding a real vocal coach is out of my ability right now. I really am eager. I performed at my 8th grade talent show and the only peice of advice I remember one of teachers who ran it say to drink warm water, because cold water makes your vocal cords dry or something like that. I do stop singing after a bit when I feel it's enough. I get a lot feedback from others to keep going. I just feel that I CAN practice on my own, but at the same time I sometimes feel a teeny bit hopeless when I see how easy it can look by it's not. I think I am singing with my diaphragm or I'm not. I really don't know and this is where I'm frustrated and feel inferior. I feel that I just can't do it. I feel a little discouraged. This only happens very rarely. Because after what you told it made it seem as if what I was already doing wasn't a good idea. I've been told too many times that I should be a singer and that movitates me. I appreciate your feedback. It helped me a lot but I do have a question if you're willing to answer: Do you understand the technique I was doing as I told you from before? I got that idea from a video when the girl in it said to sing along with the artist in question to see where you at even though I was already doing that way before it came out.

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +3

      Don't be discouraged! Everyone can find their way, and it seems that you're willing to put in hard work. I do understand what you were trying to tell before, but singers have actual vocal training, and what you mentioned could easily be a part of your own training, but it can't stand alone. Vocal warm-downs for example help you release muscle tension, and obviously, you don't have to do them, but if your vocal training was kind of demanding, if you sang primarily in a heavy chest register, or belted, you might wanna sing a bit of light head voice just to stop your voice from being damaged. The whole water affair is a bit more complicated. Hot water causes blood vessels in the throat to swell, negatively affecting your vocal chords. Cold water causes your blood vessels to contract and your throat to become dry. I would recommend lukewarm water. This is a great explanation of how to know if you're singing with your diaphragm: www.askavocalcoach.com/how-do-i-sing-from-my-diaphragm-not-my-throat-641/. If you have any more questions, don't understand something I said or just feel frustrated, please come to me, I'm glad to help you. You seem like a very hard-working, talented person.

    As a non-singer and doesn't not know how to read notes, I can say lauren have this voice who will makes you goosebumps, her lower register and raspiness makes her unique from the group. I'm just afraid about the sustainability if she will be given the whole song, especially now that she is a soloist, her voice is clearly not the same before, she easily get tired. But I hope lauren and other girls can produce a songs/album that make themselves go on tour like Camila.

      Ariana Promy I'd say Little Mix. Simply because they just work together. They blend well, they all have a perfect ear for dynamics and harmonies, which is incredibly important in a group. It just feels like Fifth Harmony doesn't practice as much, or at least not together. I do also think that they don't cope with the stress as well, which is why they sometimes screw up performances. As individuals, I honestly couldn't tell you- but as a group, I think it's obvious who takes the crown.

    Whistle register isn’t something anyone can 100% control. Even Mariah admitted, some days she can’t hit them.

    I'm not sure if dinah has asthma but what probably caused her breath control issues (originating around 2016) was when she had bronchitis in 2015

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +2

      Someone told me she didn't have asthma. While I understand her troubles with that, it doesn't explain her breath control all those other years. They just really need different vocal coaches- they'd be incredible.

    DAMMNIT DINAH DOESNT HAVE ASTHMA. PLEASE SHOW ME THE RECEIPTS. She had bronchitis during reflection tour but it's not asthma lol. I saw that everywhere

      Mjsjeed Only True Harmonizer know that. She said in Q&A Reflection Tour and she say sorry about that. So, u don't make a mistake. But, she get some training to handle that cause people said is not the reason to make bad performance cause she is profesional singer. Thanks for make this video.

    I feel like they never got actual vocal training. They all sound like they don't really know what they're doing and they can't control their voices. You should analyze Ben Fankhauser, you would lose your shit over his runs/vocal agility.
