  • I included the registers, belts, agility and vocal control. I did not include her specific vocal range but I talked about it shortly in the specific registers. This is not a hate video, Camila is incredibly talented and deserves every ounce of success she gets.

    She's such a dope singer, despite obvious flaws. She has great musicality, creative with runs/note changes and her timbre is very pretty to me. With a good vocal coach, she'd be a beast.
    Within the group, while she may not have been a strong vocalist like Dinah or Ally, her voice wasn't nearly as clunky (which is why they made her the lead in the group). She had a unique sound and versatility that made her an instant favorite for me.

    She's just unpolished. If she gets a good vocal coach she should improve quite a lot. She's also been shown to care a lot about her craft and becoming a better artist, so I'm sure than she'll get much better in time.

    Camila is an incredibly talented artist and songwriter and I have nothing but respect for her. Please be respectful in the comments, hate is unnecessary and doesn't solve anything. While you're at it, check out GarageStudios covers, he deserves more attention! Spread love, people xx
    Also, for everyone that's constantly asking: Pentatonix/ One Direction will be my next two analyses, I'm already working on them. One Direction's will include Zayn.

      Mjsjeed that “nasality thing” is because she was trained for it, in an interview she made an example of what she does to warm up her voice and I was surprised because the first thing she did was a every note using her nose (I don’t know how to explain you must watch) and obviously that sound is to make a “brand” for her, just like Britney. You can hear when she sang “méxico lindo y querido” her low notes were on point, but she lost the “girly tone” of her voice.

    • @some_bih7852

      Mjsjeed YES SHE IS

  • @itsjoabe
    @itsjoabe 6 років тому +143

    She has a lot of potential, but she REALLY needs to get rid of the nasality. Her natural tone is actually pretty and she sounds amazing whenever she uses it while singing (Top Down would be a great example). Besides, it's amazing how nasality takes a toll on her overall technique. She simply can't resonate because she's always SOOO nasal.

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +32

      Yes! Her nasality affects everything surrounding her technique, she would be so much better if she would just lift her soft palate. It's really frustrating to see.

    • @musicstansubscribetomychan9556
      @musicstansubscribetomychan9556 6 років тому +6

      do you have any video of her singing without nasality?

    • @itsjoabe
      @itsjoabe 6 років тому +5

      music stan She does a speak-singing type of thing in the verses of Top Down and doesn't sound nasal (because she's "emulating" her speaking voice in her singing). There's a showcase of this part on my channel if you want to check it. Don't know if the same happens live tho

    • @stevengrantofthegiftshop1549
      @stevengrantofthegiftshop1549 4 роки тому +1

      Not get rid of nasality, but learn to use nasal resonance properly. If you say "get rid of nasality," then she may also be conscious to completely cut off her nasal passage, therefore not achieving good forward placement. Watch Chris Liepe's video about being nasal, he goes into detail.

    relistening to a lot of camila’s vocals when she was younger and in the group really shows how much she’s improved. More recently she’s sounded so much better and with so much more control. I’m glad she’s been working with the same vocal coach as ariana.

    She’s got the potential to be an above average vocalist. To me, the true highlight of her voice is her mixed register when she supports it (I love her F#4s from Crying In The Club), and her agility is definitely there, so that shows to me that she has potential, she just needs to work on getting rid of the nasality, and then work on expanding the support in her voice. A3 is average for her voice-type so I can forgive that, but A4 for a light-lyric soprano? She definitely has a lot of work to do, but she can get there.

      I love your comments! Thank you so much, that's exactly what I hope they're like. I'm so glad you enjoy my videos xx
      I really feel as though Camila will blossom as a solo artist, but I was never attached to Fifth Harmony when she was still in the group, so I guess I can't really join the discussion.

    • @GarageStudio7
      @GarageStudio7 6 років тому +1

      Mjsjeed I'm definitely a fan now; I'm very so glad I stumbled onto your insightful channel recently! I do feel like she will blossom as well, because the animosity between them during her last days in the group was quite detrimental plus her musical growth is admirable especially in such a short time. I don't know if you've heard their new song "Can You See" it's actually good (at least they tried more vocally) plus you should listen to Leona's Christmas medley with Dinah when you get a chance; you won't be disappointed 💞

      Yeah, I feel like Camila in Fifth Harmony was just never going to work. I see so much in Camila, I feel like she has a musical understanding that a lot of artists lack nowadays. I haven't heard "Can You See" as of now, but I'll definitely check it out! I'm a huge Leona Lewis fan, so I've actually seen her medley with Dinah already, and it was awesome to say the least.

      Mjsjeed 😱 so glad you love Leona! You definitely won't disappoint me; your work is truly a gem. You're so right about Camila. At first I didn't get why she was the lead and I didn't get why Demi called her special when they were on the XFactor; but now I do. Her singles thus far show her unique and incredible artistry! Happy New Year, I pray that this year brings you many blessings!

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +103

      Sure. This is just my opinion only taking into account what I've seen so far: 1. Ally, 2. Dinah/Normani, 3. Camila, 4. Lauren. Everyone can prefer whoever they want- I think they're all incredible.

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +59

      Yeah, she has a LOT of problems with intonation. Objectively, some people might have placed her 3., but her vocal control outshines Dinah's by miles. Her lower register is overall developed, whereas Dinahs developed register is her upper. I understand where you're coming from, but I still see her as second best alongside Dinah.

    Dinah should've been the designated runner since the beginning. This year she finally got to show off her voice and in my opinion she's the best at runs . It was sad that she was overlooked in the past but she's better then ever right now

      The thing is that Dinah's register is 100% R&B and they wanted a pop sound. Dinah always were a better overall singer than Camila but didn't have the same agility or creativity. When Camila was in the group she were the second lead singer and now is the FIRST so that their sound changed for a more R&B/URBAN sound.
      Despite producers pushing Lauren...Dinah now is the one trying to do what Camila did: ENERGIZING their perfomances!

    • @ds-pw2pf
      @ds-pw2pf 6 років тому +9

      daiell09 i agree that dinahs are more fluid. I think it's because of her ear for music and how well she can fit in their harmonies. Camila did good runs but sometimes they were out of place and not needed. They were really creative though.

      Her bbc1 performance was good ( so stable despite the fact that this performance was just a couple of days after her suffering from tonsillitis and fainting from over eating ham and cheese at an Italian restaurant). Also you should check out her slowed down version of Havana at billboards women, let me know what you think of that performance, super curious. :)

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +22

      I just watched the Havana performance you recommended, so I'm just gonna name some things off the top of my head that I noticed. It seems at times, her falsetto is gaining more projection, although it's clear to see that it's still very inconsistent (2:16). She had one very clean transition from mixed to falsetto in there which I thought was incredible. The performance itself wasn't great, very inconsistent vocals, especially in the lower register which I was surprised by. Her belts starting at 2:28 are weak and very strained, although they always are with Camila. Her runs were incredibly creative and she really showed off her agility, maybe even excessively. Generally, I wouldn't say she improved a lot. I'm not sure which performance you're referring to when you say "BBC 1 performance"? I'd like to watch that one too, maybe you can send a link? I hope I didn't disappoint with my reaction- thanks for your recommendation xx

  • @yonatanborohov9942
    @yonatanborohov9942 6 років тому +6

    I think she should work on her pitch(althogh she's fine when she's not moving). She also lacks restraint. She tends to oversing, overusing runs that sometimes are sloppy(although she is very agile and has some amazing moments). She is already very creative with good musicality.
    But it's nice to know she has one octave of support. It's not great, but better than a lot of singers like Taylor Swift, Sia, Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez..

    That's a very great analysis.. I often see and heard that from her since she started but the thing is she's very good at originality and the playfulness of those notes leads her to something rare which is i love and she has a very rare vocals that if you heard from the radio, you know its her.. And the talent that she has is more aggressive and more powerful than the other artists. I love how unique her voice and how she control it despite all the floss, she needs improvement as well but still she's already great. ❤

      Thank you! I've always said that these analyses are strictly focused on vocal technique and while I like some artists more than others, I try my best not to oversell/undersell them and stay objective. I truly see something in Camila- she might be below average vocally, but so is Selena Gomez and she makes great music. Camila really has potential to be a huge artist, especially with her songwriting skills.

    • @KaraNery
      @KaraNery 6 років тому

      She’s not below average vocally. Technically she might be and might have been, but her vocal agility is something

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +3

      Hey there! Well, agility is a small part of singing. She's below average in both the upper and the mixed register, and her lower register is average. I see your point, but without getting rid of her nasality, I don't see her being average/above average vocally any time soon. Note that I'm always referring to vocal technique here, and Camila doesn't have a whole lot of that.

    • @Daincrediblered
      @Daincrediblered 6 років тому

      Well actually its doesnt matter if she cannot make those type of vocals.. Because originally she has a big potential thats why she outshine other artist.. With or without the group she still on top because of how original and unique she is.. Cause sometimes if were missing some types of vocal that is because that what we made of.. We cant be perfect and we cant have it all.. We shine because of what we have and what we bring to the audience.. And with camila i think its enough for us fans to have her as like that.. Tbh for me she is incredible.. Im just happy to see her work hard and let us be blessed by her sound and you will feel it from the heart.. And i think thats the most important.. The way she deliver the message to us.. ❤

      Why do you people click on vocal analyses just to leave comments like this? If you don't want her to have a healthy technique, you're absolutely free to. Her voice is great, her technique isn't. If you didn't want to find out anything about her technique, this isn't the video for you. Have a good day.

    I think Camila has been consistently improving her vocals since leaving 5H. Her live performances in the past couple of years have been outstanding. But what makes her stand out are her songwriting abilities. Romance is one of the best albums lyrically and musically. She really has tremendous talent.

    Isn't her voice sounding nasal something natural for Camila maybe? I wouldn't think she has control over that

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +60

      Valid question! Nasality is often confused with a high timbre. In Camilas case, it is indeed nasality. She sings through her nose, which is something I probably should have mentioned.

    • @sabrinag9610
      @sabrinag9610 6 років тому +4

      Mjsjeed I don't know how you would sing through your nose but it can be annoying to listen to a song without having the urge to put up Camila's sorta whiny voice (sometimes)

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +25

      Nasality is caused by the soft palate not being lifted properly, therefore letting the air snd the sound "come through the nose", to put it easy. And I agree, although it's become better in her solo music (not live performances).

    • @sabrinag9610
      @sabrinag9610 6 років тому

      Mjsjeed And what did you mean by jaw tightness? Often when I when stop singing I don't do anything to relax my muscles. I just regularly stop singing after a while or go get lukewarm water like you said. Is it like my jaw becomes permitted to open my voice or something? Also let me guess.....Camila is using her falsetto at 2:52, because to me it sounds a little too high, but somewhat nice

    • @BreathingYourLife
      @BreathingYourLife 6 років тому +8

      Sabrina Giles she's tense when she's singing, that what she moves her jaw some people would call it vibrato but is not, a vibrato has nothing to do with moving your jaw. Also the nasality in her voice is like... you're singing and you feel your voice place on your noise, i know it doesn't make sense but a great example would be if you try to imitate shakira's voice, then you'll feel it and will notice it isn't natural to anyone

  • @realSimoneCherie
    @realSimoneCherie 4 роки тому

    Ya very rarely do I hear Camila "run," usually the note doesn't change.... She's just going "ooh whoa oh whoa," no moving up or down the scale...Demi Lovato has this habit too.
    The biggest issue for most is that she goes from chest to head so often anytime something is above like, C5/D5, which is pretty low for a female singer - I wish she'd work on it so she could get stronger.

    Take a vocal analysis of Shawn Mendes, and if you can legendar to Portuguese would be great (you can by the analysis written in English in the description of the video, so those who do not understand English can copy and translate through the internet). I ask this, because I paused every video to copy and translate, I am Brazilian and I would love to accompany your work. Thanks.
    Ahh if you can talk more about the "hoarse voice", I've heard Shawn speak that he prefers to record the songs after rehearsing a lot, because his voice will be more hoarse and more tired.
    Congratulations and success!

    you guys remeber that part of Dream Girls when Jamie foxx told Dina that she was the lead because of her weak voice(but we know that beyonces voice isnt weak)
    camila was put as the lead voice because she was the weakest the other 4 can works hamornies but Camia cant because she cant control that nassal voice she needs a vocal coach because she has weak voice( i got to be honest) she has to relay in nassals so she dont miss a note and go off key very often
    this is fixeable and doesnt means she is a bad singer but it means she has a limit range of notes and sometimes she sounds plain and then she uses some falssettos to compense that but the falssettos are really weak so then people get annoyed and be like "dont try it you cant reach that"
    but comparing her audition to now she has improve ages

    one person's technical problems are another person's individualistic vocal idiosyncrasies i think, though. i absolutely see where you're coming from with your perspective though. there is a "correct" way to sing always but style is so important i think. like, Ariana was extremely nasally but is one of the best singers i've ever heard in my life in my opinion. This comment is coming from someone who loves Camila a lot though haha but I see what you're saying i really do

    • @mjsjeed184

      I get that. This is not about style though, more about vocal technique. Anyway, I understand what you're saying, because despite obvious vocal flaws, it's up to everyone who sounds best to them.

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +7

      There are a lot of exercises to release jaw tension. One I find easiest would be to just let your jaw hang loose. You will feel an openness in your jaw that needs to be accessed for a good technique. Then try to find a correct posture and correct breathing that allows you to open your jaw in a fluid motion, without feeling excessive tension. It might be hard at first, but promise me, you'll get it right in no time.

    Even if Camila doesn't have a whistle register, is it possible if a singer can learn how to do one? I've always loved how angelic it sounds and tried it myself but just sound like a screeching cat and my voices just goes scratchy completely. I could do a falsetto but that's diffrent. It leads to believe that I'll never be able to whistle considering some say "you're born with it". Me hearing that, I think that sounds biased and sometimes get pissed about it, because I thought sopranos could go high places even without trying. I've always adored how Ariana Grande was able to sing so high back when I watched her on Victorious (I don't know if you watched that) and even listening to her when her debut album came out. She was so good for her age. Have you listened to Emotions cover? I'm not comparing her to Camila. I just think it seems unfair, because even if I wasn't born with a whistle register doesn't mean I can't sing high. No this isn't me being jealous or hell, petty. I just want to do a whistle register but can't.
    I also replied to you on the top 10 5H video :)

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +2

      Anyone can learn how to do whistle notes. I mean it. I would REALLY recommend you to get some information on how to do correct whistle notes, because if done incorrectly, they can be incredibly damaging to your vocal cords. If doing whistle notes hurts, then you're not doing it right. The secret is to close your throat (surprisingly) and let air pass through slowly. This may come off as irritating to you, but you may strain some days even after you've developed a nice whistle register. Straining in the whistle register should be avoided at all times, and if you sense anything, stop immediately and try again at a later time. It'll take time before you'll be able to hit the notes like Mariah or Ariana Grande, you'll have to be patient. And yes, I have seen Ariana's cover of Emotions. Impressive, although she's not able to control her whistle register.

    • @sabrinag9610
      @sabrinag9610 6 років тому

      Did she? That's cool, then. Even though she obviously didn't have to defend herself xx

    • @sabrinag9610
      @sabrinag9610 6 років тому

      Mjsjeed Why didn't she have to defend herself? Also I really wanna know why people say you have to be born with a whistle register. It sounds stupid to me. I don't understand. Almost every video about whistle registers, or videos about singers who have one, it's like the comments are pushing this myth making it seems as if having it is so special and amazing to be a greater singer than the rest. "It's rare", "you're born with it", "I can't do it". I don't know if you've seen those types of accusations. If I could just say that even though a lot of singers have a whistle register doesn't mean they're somehow superior. Ariana can sing, but she has her flaws and isn't perfect. I'm probably sounding petty here, but I just don't understand the hype over being able to whistle. I'm so indifferent to it I don't even know if I should even try. I did. No progress so far.
      This may seem like a reach but it's a suggestion: Could you ever plan on making a video about whistle registers? Tell people how they could do it, how it's used and use singers who have it as an example and to show that it's hard to control proving that you don't have to be born with a whistle to think that you're better singer because of it? And yes you can put my name at the end of the video :)

    • @mjsjeed184
      @mjsjeed184  6 років тому +1

      Well, because she shouldn't have to explain herself for not being the best at something- it seems a bit ridiculous, if I'm being honest. I don't know where that comes from either. People like to talk without knowing things, apparently. And sure, if you're not comfortable with it, there is no need for you to have it. It doesn't define you as a singer.
      And sure I can! I really want to help you with this, so I'll try being quick. I think I have a bit of spare time in the next few days, I'll try squeezing it in there. And you're really attentive😂 I didn't even have to ask!

      Sure. As I've said before, this is my opinion, I can only take into consideration what I've seen so far, but I'm pretty confident it's accurate. 1. Ally, 2. Normani/Dinah, 3. Camila, 4. Lauren- who people like best, or who I like best, is not what this ranking is about. It's about technique and vocal capability. I hope you can identify with the ranking xx

      Mjsjeed may I ask why Normani is that high up? I mean, she has shown to have projection problems and even pitch problems at times. I don't mean to sound mean or anything, but it's just surprising to see that she would rank together with Dinah. Other than that, I completely agree. (I'm definitely a Lauren girl, but yeah I agree that for now she's the weakest vocally). I do love Normani though, don't get me wrong

      Five H I think it’s because of her vocal and breath control
