This dispatcher deserves an award. She got to the bottom of everything in 2 minutes and worded it in the best possible way for the future jury. Amazing.
The way the operator says "So you shot him instead of calling 9-1-1?" was so chilling. You can hear it throw her off as she scrambles for a different sympathetic angle. Ugh... That poor man.
@@advena996 my comment was in reference to her shooting him multiple times after he was already on the ground incapacitated but still alive. The creepy part was that she said she shot him "to put him out of his misery" like a sick animal. If this were an actual DV situation where the victim shot their aggressor, I would certainly be more understanding about them shooting or even killing in self defense.
@@advena996 Why would you be relentlessly pursuing your abuser? The "self -defense" story doesn't fly when YOU'RE the stalker. I think you're crazy. You have some issues related to being a victim of DV. Your statement doesn't say much about this case - but it says a lot about you.
@Hulda's Journey • idk about the US but here i don't think it would raise much questions that in panic someone made sure the other party can't hurt them anymore (by death), you're in panic and not thinking things through (but if you would, still a lot of abusers get the victim at the end, so..), i mean if they survive and say they never abused you and you can't prove it, you get attempted murder instead? not much better the question was asked because she said she killed him to put him out of his misery, not in panic or to defend, which is completely different. she literally killed him (if that was true) because she judged that paramedics can't help him anymore, that's not self defense that's murder lol
My same exact thoughts as I listened to her. I was trying to figure out what could be going on through her mind. She’s probably heard so many stories like this and how they usually turn out. She knows so she knew the right things to ask.
She was almost a little annoyed lol. “I killed my boyfriend in self defense” you heard the operator sigh, like ugh not this again before she started asking questions…
My 22 yr old daughter was murdered on 8/27/22 and it’s still unsolved. When you bury your child you are unable to move on and people don’t understand that. You will do anything to hold onto the slightest thing that reminds you of them. I’m glad they have closure and know his killer is in prison but it will never fill that empty void that is in your very soul when your child is removed from this planet before you 🥲 Thank you for giving these victims a voice ❤
@sydneybowman1903 Life doesn't seem to be life in this case. She has to serve 20 years, and then she's eligible to go in front of the parole board. The year will be 2032. She deserves straight life. No eligibility for parole!
When Ryan’s dad said he sometimes puts on Ryan’s clothes to feel close to him :( When my dad died I would wear his old hoodies just so I could feel like a part of him was with me. This case is so sad and I hope Ryan’s family is healing
My brother died 2 years ago today and I’m sitting here watching Kendall Ray in his hoodie… I think about him and miss him EVERY day. People are punished for the crime of murder, I wish people could be punished for the hell all of their loved ones have to suffer for years to come.
I do the same thing with my dad's clothes. I have his leather jackets which are really thick for motorcycle riding and they're huge but I love smelling them. I wear his flannels and I have his t-shirts his backpack and his work bag. They still smell like him. He passed away on Father's day 2018.
Domestic violence against men needs to be talked about more in this society. Women and men suffer from this and it should be treated as such, with the same matter. This case almost makes me cry.
But men need to start doing that treating it as serious and majority of men are in power to do so because some men who complain don’t they use it as a tactic to crap on women who go through domestic abuse instead of law enforcement and ppl in the field even therapist of men started taking it serious then others would if men who call out other men who don’t take it serious and hold them accountable I’m sure it would be a thing that would be taken serious
The detail about him being alive until the last gun shot makes me a little sick. That would wreck me even more if I was his parent. I hope she never gets out.
Her actions were definitely not normal. I’m just thankful that she has never been able to get out to do more with that mind set. It’s absolutely unthinkable to think that was normal or even close to self defense. My fiancé’s ex wife is on husband number 5 and she scares us how she acts (we only deal with her because of his 10 year old son).
It’s absolutely inhumane to leave the family in charge of cleaning up after the murder of their loved one. I found out this was an actual thing when my best friend lost her partner. She had to clean up the entire scene and his apartment while grieving and it breaks my heart to know that people have to go through that. You should never have to go through that. Ever.
My best friend lost her brother and their family was let with the bathroom. It was fucking horrific, the grief I feel and I wasn’t even there. I can only imagine how these folks feel, it’s inhumane, we can’t keep allowing it 😭
IKR?! There are services that will do it for you but it costs a ton of money. I think I'll take more debt than a lifetime of trauma. It's heartbreaking.
I agree. It’s so heartless to the victim and their loved ones. The police department should send a team over to do it themselves when their loved ones aren’t there. I don’t understand how they can put the family and their friends through that amount of pain. It’s just horrible and so sad to experience.
It is awful… my best friend shot himself when he was 19… his mother had to clean it. It was a shotgun too. My friend helped and I’ll never forget him hyperventilating and telling me about a bucket full of bloody water. I wish I’d never known. Then the funeral was open casket… I just don’t understand.
She literally looks crazy. And the fact that she thinks this is all a game or a joke. Is just appalling. No one gives af about you or your life behind bars. Her behavior thru all this is sickening. It's about the great soul she brutally murdered. RIP to Ryan, and my condolences to his family and friends.
@@Qunilliousuh yeah are you suggesting shes sane? She looks sounds and behaves completely fucking nuts. I mean. If it walks like a duck acts like a duck… 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
Something that I’m surprised you didn’t mention was that she first told the 911 operator that he beat her up… and then later in the call when the operator asked her if she had any injuries, she said she has none. What kind of supernatural being doesn’t have ANY injuries after being beaten up?!
I don’t know if the video mentions this but she used to injure herself when having fights with Ryan and go to his neighbors claiming he injured Shayna. Well only one neighbor believed her and she even testified for Shayna. The other neighbors caught Shayna injuring herself. The one neighbor testified as if she believed Ryan harmed Shayna. Several neighbors caught her outside injuring herself. Glad she’s where she belongs but the sentence wasn’t stiff enough.
I watched a clip of one of Ryan’s sisters speaking at the trial in another video. She had a stuffed bear made, and the shirt the bear is wearing is the one Ryan wore when he passed, and in the bears hand is a button recording so when she presses it, it plays his voicemail. My heart SHATTERED watching that. 😭
Happy 10years Kendall! It’s actually so beautiful that your daughter was born on that day. Thank you for all the love, time, and effort, you put into every single one of your videos!
The fact that he was sitting at the table would indicate that he wasn't attacking her when he was shot. From the pictures of where he was sitting when he was shot he wouldn't have been blocking her ability to escape. Her behavior in the interrogation room is incredibly bizarre.
She says she was forced into that position. WOW. This whole case is insane so sad that he had lost his life to this monster she honestly needs to get help.
Biggest issue, STOP keeping the people you don’t want to be with around. If you still are sleeping together, hanging around together. Clean break, trauma bonds can be deadly! She didn’t care if she hurt him, all she cared about is he would never be able to love another
Exactly. He was a gas lighter and fucken manipulater and those are forms of abuse. He was 28 dating a fucken 19 year old. That was already the first red flag. Then he strings her along, brings her around his family, constantly breaks ups with her and then dates a pageant woman right after and he met the pageant woman through Facebook exactly how he met Shayna. Come one dude. I went through this same kind of situation I just didn’t kill the asshole.
It does apply to anyone, psycho or not. Clean break and distance added will absolutely keep you safer than "being a good person" and feeling sorry for the clinger. It feeds their sick need for attention from you and feeds into the cycle. Distance and a clean break will save your life. The person will have to move on.
Exactly… parents also don’t see how important it is to teach their kids to be comfortable being alone, be happy with themselves… so many of us have to learn it as adults after bad relationships. I know that’s just a small piece of it, but it’s so important.
@@rosemadder5547 those parents that put relationship pressure on their kids “when are you gonna settle down, meet someone and have me some grandkids” that is an awful thing to do to your kids! Just ask if they’re happy. If they’re happy then be happy for them, much better than helping them get away from a narcissist they felt pushed by you to date! I have 3 adult children and their happiness is my number one priority, not their lives and the way it will affect mine like grandkids. I would never pressure my kids to take major steps in their lives like that. My only married child doesn’t want kids. I am fine with that and happy she knows herself enough to make that decision. People who don’t want kids or even marriage should never feel pressured to do so for their parents. It’s gross, get your own life and quit living through your kids!
That state needs to look at this case and reconsider their laws for restraining orders! This is so sad!!! My heart goes to his family and friends. 🙏🏽 May Ryan Rest in Peace
Exactly what I was thinking! So I have to be in danger for police to do something? FUCKING INSANE! How did that make any sense to the people who wrote that law?!
A piece of paper (209a) a restraining order is just that a live of paper with rules that if the abuser or murderer is going abide by all of a sudden when’s their whole lives they disregarded authority figures and rules etc etc
The 911 operator seemed like she was so annoyed when Shayna said "I killed my bf in self defense." The way she responded with "Ok, where ya at" as if her past 10 callers, all had the same emergency. 🤣
as someone who has BPD: these cases are so frustrating. I would never EVER kill someone and it sucks that we get tied to people like this. It's honestly scary the no remorse she had, she sounds like a psychopath.
My mom had bpd and if anything, she would hurt herself before someone else. She was an amazing person and I’m sure you are too! People do not understand the trauma someone goes through to get BPD. I wish you well!!
Absolutely! I've got BPD as well and when I got to that part of the video it just disgusted me even more.. There's so many people I've met with it in my therapy program that are wonderful people just suffering from a ton of trauma, not a violent psycho like this woman. Wishing you well on your mental health journey.
Thank you for this. I have BPD and it’s such a stigma because you get tied with people like this. I would never ever think of hurting someone else. In my opinion, BPD has absolutely nothing to do with sociopathy and psychopathy
I'm still listening to this but as a therapist it so far sounds like this dude was a massive narcissist and has attachment trauma. Calling someone "crazy" multiple times and breaking up with them frequently is a form of emotional abuse. She seems borderline and many people with borderline also have narcissistic traits, which this could have triggered this series of events. Narcissists are good at covertly finding vulnerable people to emotionally manipulate/gaslight, so it is hard to parse out what really happened when two or more narcissists are involved.
This is shocking. I went in open minded, as I have had ex's who were very good at hiding their abusive natures to others, but her words and actions are truly horrific. She wasn't scared of him at all.
Right? If I’m afraid for my life I don’t really give a shit about “things”. I’ll come back with a police escort or at least a couple really big friends or my 1 nephew lol he is big and strong enough to equal 2 big friends. I have used his services in the past it works out pretty well.
@@melissabridges8199 I did that, police went to my place 4 times, once for my daughter and 3 regards to the x...he played victim, and I got tired, ran away after the last event...
Wow, gotta love how this woman tries to sound compassionate by putting him out his misery. You also have to love how she says I’m not a murderer after she committed murder. It’s like someone who cheats on their spouse and then says I’m not a cheater.
I always love seeing your animals in the background. Its comforting looking at them when a sad case comes up for sure. Keep up the great work and congrats on 10 years! I've been subbed to you for about 7 I think.
I had the thought when kendall was wearing her new merch how she never had any cat or dog hair on her lol. I was always covered in it when I had my white cat.
Hi again friends! Wow! You guys already sold out our restock on the NECMC collection! Thank you so much! I know i said i wasn’t gonna restock but with so many of you who wanted it not able to get one, I’ve decided to restock! They will be coming soon! Also We’re still working hard on an improved new editing style. I took some of your feedback from last week and applied it! Let me know what you think! Adding more text to the screen was our attempt to make it more inclusive and many people have said it helps them to understand the content better but I know a lot of you don’t like it so I’m kinda stuck on what to do there
First of all I love your story and can wait to hear the next one 😊 Feedback about the new editing, 2 points for improvement from my point of view: 1. the background when you present the characters with the photo is intense and takes my attention away from the photo 2. look a bit old to me the PowerPoint dissolving style
We also lost our brilliant and handsome son Ryan, but in 2014. He was 26. I’m still not really ready to talk about it because we lost another son, Joshua, in 2019 to complications with his paranoid schizophrenia, the worst illness anyone can have. This was my first episode with you and I got through it! Subbed, too.
That's heartbreaking 💔 I'm so sorry for your losses. My cousin had paranoid schizophrenia and it's soul braking for those with it. It a truely horrendous illness. My cousin passed away a few years ago.
I’m am so sorry for ur losses 😢 I lost my daughter to suicide in 2017. I do understand the pain of losing a child. It is unbearable and unrelenting. One thing I tell people is it never gets easier…only softer ✝️🙏💔🕊️ Edit: My daughter was only 28
His dad wearing Ryan’s clothes really broke my heart. My husband died of covid 19 in 2021 at the age of 33, I wear his t-shirts almost everyday. If you ever see a girl in California wearing an oversized dragon ball z shirt or lakers shirt it’s probably me. I’m so sorry to his family and I hope they find some peace because God knows it’s difficult.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost a family member to Covid too and it still feels so surreal. Praying you can find some comfort and healing with time 💜
What always bothers me about this, as well as Jodi Arias , is that as much as both guys wanted to break it off with these women, they continue to sleep with them at times. Change your locks and your number and have NO interaction with them of ANY kind. They could still be ambushed somewhere, but it would certainly be a whole lot harder.
I agree. Also the age difference bothered me. It’s not the years but the maturity level of someone 19 versus 28. Of course, it’s still a tragedy that could have perhaps been avoided.
You're ACTUALLY right, but it's hard for a guy especially to leave a pretty crazy 🐦 alone bc the seggs is WOW...just keeping it a buck😒. Again, you're Def right he probably should've thought with the big head... STILL didn't deserve to go out sad like this though RIP 🙏. Hope his killer is punished FULLY 💯🧔🏿♂️
Her talking to the other inmate and joking about his passing was just infuriating to me. Like oh my god, just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse
As someone who has been in a hard/abusive relationship unfortunately it takes on average at least 8 times to leave. Being trauma bonded to someone which is an abuse tactic is real
Ur right. It took me like 10 times to leave my sons dad. 2/2/17 is the night I left. And even tho he was a jerk. It’s so hard to move on No matter what he did
I appreciate this comment. My ex-gf was very abusive and controlling, and yet it took me a while to get the courage to leave -- mainly because I felt for her, and also because I was afraid of her lashing out violently, against me, herself, or her dog, if I finally left. Then I had to endure "jokes" about how the reason it took me so long to leave was because I wanted to enjoy sexual benefits from her.. Little did anyone know, she wanted to remain celibate until marriage, so we never had sex to begin with, but the implication was that because I'm a guy, I was sticking around for selfish perks, when in reality I was sick to my stomach and agonizing over how to break free every day. Threats, gaslighting, and manipulation are all forms of abuse and can be hard enough to spot, let alone escape from, and it's important to remember the complexity so as o not further damage survivors with harmful stereotypes.
The fact that they can change defense tactics infuriates me! The juror who got the case thrown out has zero to do with her defense. You shouldn’t be allowed to say, “oops, that didn’t work, let’s try XYZ!” 🙄🤦🏻♀️
Yeah I think it shouldn't be allowed, but I will say in this specific scenario, changing her defense made her look even more guilty. The lack of consistency in the defense' statements is something the prosecution really held onto to win their case.
Law student here, The point of a retrial is to have a clean slate, a new defense team being bound by the arguments and approach set out by the first team would be nonsensical. Lawyers, whomever their client, are supposed to act in the best interest of their client. And while it’s hard to have sympathy for it in a case such as this, the legal system isn’t used for just sentencing obvious murderers. It doesn’t take much stretching of the imagination to imagine a scenario of a wrongful conviction where a defendant had a mediocre lawyer who approached their case in a mediocre way. Should their new defense team be bound by the previous lawyers approach if they have the opportunity for a new trial? Absolutely not. Some things that seem unfair on their face when the person on trial is unsympathetic operate on a larger scale to ensure peoples’ due process rights are not violated.
Shayna reminds me of a former coworker. These women need a hobby that doesn’t involve taking someone’s life because they got rejected. Happy 10 years Kendall!
The photo of Ryan and Shayna at 11:39 is sooo chilling. You can tell they were mentally in two different spaces. He looks exhausted; almost like he just wants her away from him. She looks like she has her prized possession. Poor doggy looks confudado. May Ryan rest in eternal love. 😢❤
"he was twitching so i shot him a couple more times because he was gonna die anyway".. oh my god, the absolute horror and evil of this person. i hope ryans family can find peace..
My cousin was just murdered a couple days ago… I’ve grown a whole new appreciation for what you do 💙 thank you for bringing light to such dark situations✨ I am praying everyday the person who hurt my cousin is caught & put to justice💙
I'm so sorry for your loss. Kendall does have forms you can fill out to cover cases... So if you feel more coverage could help your cousins murderer be brought to their entirely deserved justice then that is always something you could do? I'm so sorry this has happened to your family and I hope their killer is found xxx
To be forced into the situation of cleaning up your loved ones blood is so traumatic on top of the loss I could not imagine, terrifying, horrifying and so sad for them
There is some Casey Anthony level of narcissism going on here as well. Just terrible what happened to Ryan and his family. Thank you Kendall, as always!
Disclaimer: I think this woman murdered Ryan and I do not see evidence that he was abusive. That said, I am a little concerned about some of the things stated in this video. First, I do not agree that a woman's accusation of abuse is invalidated by the man's family and friends saying he is gentle and nonviolent. Second a woman can be mentally disturbed, even a bad person, and still be a victim of abuse. I don't agree that hundreds of obsessive texts means a woman cannot be a victim. I also don't agree that the fact that if a woman aggressively pursues a man it means he is not abusive. I'm pointing these things out not to defend the murderer in this case, but because I think these tropes cast doubt on imperfect women who make bad decisions but are still victims of abuse.
@@jtsroll it’s actually not because your family friends and strangers do not know every side of you, no one’s does. You are so far removed from reality.
Hard agree. The hundreds of texts etc can be normal BPD behavior but it doesn't make you abusive or him not abusive. It's quite normal for people with BPD and other trauma disorders to be singled out by predators.
I was thinking the same! Thank you so much for saying this! Although she wasn't the victim here, the way Kendall spoke about her and him to explain that she could not be the victim was kind of damaging and feeds into the "perfect victim" mentality that a lot of actual victims who suffer DV have to face and are invalidated by. And just because someone's family believes they aren't capable of a crime or abuse doesn't mean much honestly.
@@SpecialBlanket normal bpd behavior is saying “i want to kill him and make it look an accident”??? I have bpd and have friends with bpd and that is NOT normal. saying that this is normal behavior actually puts more of a stigma around bpd rather than combatting it. i’m not saying it’s not possible for people with bpd to have thoughts like that or be obsessive (bc i was at times) but that does NOT make it ok. and yes people with mental illness are more likely to be the victim than perpetrators in cases but that is not the case in this one.
I always feel a little skeptisism when someone says 'but he would never be violent towards his partner, he's such a nice, respectful person'. 'I've never seen him be violent, there's no way he was physically abusive with his partner' because I know several men who are extremely nice and respectful and never get angry but behind doors they're a completely different person with their partners and do in fact, hit their wives/girlfriends, you just never would imagine it because they are so nice and calm around others.
since Shayna was just a girlfriend and possibly not the first he'd dated, there would've been a pattern of abuse that they could've pieced together...if her claims were true. But there were nothing. Note that the police didn't take his people's word for it, they investigated every claim made and found nothing working with her story.
100% I'm dealing with this on a smaller degree. To everyone else, my husband is a quiet, shy, almost meek guy. At home he yells constantly, is derogatory, and has punched several holes in walls. Obviously this girl is crazy and guilty, but that doesn't mean Ryan was perfect.
@@allyfally2810 Exactly. Also, sorry to hear that you're going through that. Someone very close to me went through that and even got hit twice and she's still with him because she can't leave yet. Nobody would ever suspect her husband of being like that.
This is what happens when we don’t allow children to grow up properly. The girl was obsessed with grades and school and the exterior presence, she didn’t even get a chance to look into herself. 😢 I know I cannot call her a victim, but the mentality that she has here screams she was still in a child-like state even when she was becoming an adult.
The part about a psychologist diagnosing her with BPD (borderline-personality disorder) makes me sad. There's already so much stigma around people who suffer with that disorder which is usually caused by childhood trauma. It doesn't mean we're abusive, manipulative, or murderers.
I started reading your comment and was worried it would be something slamming those with BPD. So glad you didn’t. Thank god someone can acknowledge the stigma and that a disorder doesn’t mean a monster. Thank. You.
But she has BPD, right? Her being like that doesn't mean that everyone is like her. As I understand it, her unmanaged psychological disorder is part of what made her what she is. Idk, should the diagnosis change anything about the trial? Because either it shouldn't, and the only importance of the diagnosis is that it should be managed outside of the court (by a therapist). Or it should, and that would mean she's barely responsible for her actions AND, which sounds terrible to me, that people with BPD should be treated as if they all have less power over their own actions than those without - etc., etc., and that's a snowball of horrible conclusions which... look like a catch 22? How do you judge how much responsibility was of their own will, and how much was of their disorder? I don't know.
It does though. The BPD diagnosis is thrown at non-violent people where for them CPTSD would be heaps more helpful starting point on the journey if healing. Much more compassionate one as well. BPD and the rest of the personality disorders should be reserved for people with convoluted distortions in the formation and functioning of personality. Not gentle folks dealing with childhood trauma.
I’m confused by BPD though. I can see how shayna has many of the symptoms, but I thought those with BPD feel intense empathy? Shayna seems to be lacking any. Maybe she has more than one diagnosis?
My father was murdered in 1974 by an "unknown assailant" and I can tell you firsthand that senseless murder haunts a person forever! God bless Ryan's family.
Imo she should never be released from prison. She is an absolute danger to society. Poor Ryan. His whole life was ahead of him and it was stolen for no good reason. I feel so bad for his family 😔
She completely thrived off the drama that she had made. As if it was a play that she was writing. She was enjoying it. I feel heart broken for his family. I'm glad everything went the right way in the end.
Can you believe in her moment of ABSOLUTE DISTRESS, speaking with the 911 operator she pauses and says 'I can hear myself echoing in the background ma'am!'? LOL 16:48
Shouting from the rooftops that you are one of the BEST UA-camrs out there! You eloquently explain each case with great detail and your passion shows by how respectful you are towards the victims’ family. You are the best voice for each victim and stand up for them. Please keep giving us content! You are loved and appreciated greatly!
She is without a doubt the BEST true crime UA-camr! She doesn’t put ads or sponsorships in her videos like other true crime UA-camrs, which I find so disrespectful.
I saw this episode on Snapped. He did everything he could to get away from her in a nice way. Classic case of "If I can't have you then no one will." 😢
I cannot believe she wasn’t able to keep her loves chosen name and pronouns right while advocating for their love and marriage and then claiming they are being discriminated against. IMO it seems like a manipulative tactic for her case. 😢
She is a sick ticket, oh my word. She's still plays the victim in all aspects of her life. Judge on the first case was right on the money: she doesn't acknowledge that she's got demons to address.
From experience, I wanna say that a person could be an absolute angel to their friends & family but be the literal devil behind closed doors to their significant other. (7 minutes into the video) not saying he was like that. But there is ALWAYS the possibility that someone is secretly abusive.
Agreed. Why did he invite her over to watch the VP debates if he was planning on breaking up with her and going on a date? That confuses me. Why as an older man did he pursue a much younger immature woman? She was no angel. But I fear neither was he.
She seems to be a very narcissistic person, I'm pretty sure that if he ever hurt her she'd be parading the bruises / cuts all over her social media and with friends and family
@@WYIN98 you can never know how a person is going to respond to abuse. Her narcissism could lead her to wanting to hide it more. And not all abuse leaves bruises.
She’s completely unstable. Under no circumstances could she prove she wouldn’t do this to someone else if she was freed. Absolutely chilling case. I hope the best for Ryan’s family 💜
This is the second time within a week that I have heard that the family is usually the one to clean up. My heart breaks for anyone that has to go through that.
It is so frustrating to think that in this day we still have family having to clean up a crime scene. My father sister was murdered by her husband. My father who is barely 20 had to clean her house, he had to clean her blood and flesh. The police didn't even find my aunts husband, one of my father brothers did, but sadly there was never any justice as he took his own life along with my aunts life and her friends life who died trying to save her. I never got to meet my aunt, but it makes me so angry that things haven't changed in 41 years in regard to domestic violence.
Jealousy was the fuel in this fire. She was getting into his Facebook account and learned he was going out with a beauty queen. I think she snapped, and she definitely has a personality disorder. Probably borderline. Such a horrible ending for two young people. This girl premeditated this murder.
She sounds like she possibly had BPD but he definitely had a personality disorder as well (probably). Covert narcissism comes to mind. He treated her horribly and trauma bonded her
Do you even know what borderline personality disorder is? It is caused by sexual abuse and usually domestic abuse too. So, are you verifying that she was a DV victim? You know that pretty much EVERY domestic abuse victim will get diagnosed with BPD when they seek help and for this reason 80% of patients are female? I was sexually abused at a young age, and my very first relationship at age 20 was violent. I was then in several violent and abusive relationships up until the age of 31. When I went to my doctor at age 30 having a breakdown after the latest abuse they referred me to a psychiatrist and diagnosed me with BPD. I never once received any therapy or support specifically aimed at DV victims, I was simply labelled with a personality disorder and put on a waiting list for therapy to address my "unstable emotions". It isn't just a label you get to give anyone you don't like. It is caused by trauma during formative years and it is also a disability, yet you effectively use it as a form of abuse. Which is ironic, perhaps I should introduce you to my exes, I'm sure you would get along very well. You can get together and talk about all your "crazy exes".
I just don’t even know what to say about this case. That girl is INSANE. My gosh! I was getting goosebumps. She really doesn’t care about what she did! She is not sorry one little bit. How can you kill someone you love like this?! It scares me so much that there are people like this just out there!
@N R which is disgusting 🤢 his life should mean more than a cheap get outta jail free card. Hope karma shows ZERO mercy on the evil thing. Nobody should suffer this this poor man had to, bless his family... RIP Ryan 🙏
Man 10 years already? I remember watching some videos of yours before you became a true crime channel! You had a video on tips for incoming freshman for college I think, that was my first one! So cool to see how far you’ve come!
This whole case was so sad. I was doing fine until you talked about Ryan’s dad and all the pain he still felt. That crushed my heart. This poor family. 💔

Thank you for all the awareness, empathy, respect and donations you provide for such a large community and sharing your lives with us. 💕
The dispatcher was very astute in recognizing Shayna's decision on how to describe the incident of shooting her victim in almost confessing but changing her words to self defense; she also had to have instantly noticed that admission of waiting 10-15 minutes gave a chance to change any evidence at the scene and conjure up excuses.
Thank you Kendall for bringing us another interesting case. One thing I noticed that struck me was in the midst of her call with the 911 operator, she paused and says in a total different manner to the operator something like is that her voice she was hearing echoing in background. It came across to me as something a narsistic person would notice and kinda be proud of and she sort of amped up her tragic sounding voice . Like she was on stage performing. It was odd
It always makes me sad when the killers are diagnosed with BPD. It makes the ones who have it, like myself, look bad. ˙◠˙ Love your videos Kendall! I love that you focus on the victims instead of the killers. ❣️
I commented something similar, there's people like that and then there's people like us who try and work on ourselves and battle through the battles that our own brains cause us.
Very sad, certainly does nothing to help the horrible stigma around bpd and other mental health disorders. Some of us try really hard to keep ourselves in check as best we can and work on ourselves every day.
I love this channel, you are such a good storyteller, with so much empathy and respect. No over dramatics of judgement or sensationalism, just clear facts and informed information. This is a tragic story but it is told with a truly objective, kind and compassionate delivery. Thank you ❤️🙏❤️
I know it was probably brutal to sit through a second trial but I think it’s for the best. 40 years was not enough. Rip Ryan May your family find peace.
@@susanw9111 i mean, you can back down from a date any time. Not saying this is what happened but he could've regret the date at some point and wanted to give one last chance or perhaps talk in person with her before breaking up. Obviously I wasn't there but sometimes having dates don't mean you're ready to move on. Sometimes you have because you WANT to move on.
I’ve been watching your videos since I was a jr in high school and now I’m a senior in college I’m literally crying that you’ve been doing this for 10 years so happy to be apart of half of it 😭😭😭
she’s one of the only youtubers that i genuinely feel like is a good person on and off camera😭 i found her with her “dear fat people” response video and MAN did that help little 11 year old me with confidence issues, she’s always shown her heart
What a psychopath. Makes me sick to my stomach watching her and listening to her, she is SO fake. Not even good at acting. Incredibly glad she got what she truly deserved: life in prison.
It's very telling that she looks more disgusted by him "still twitching and making noises" than that she tried to get away from him. She didn't expect how death and murder would be, so she just wanted to get over with it.
As a family lawyer that deals with so much domestic abuse(which includes mental, emotional manipulative behavior like this), this is tragic but not shocking. The degree that people go to when one partner ends a relationship is toxic and unending in so many cases. It's only worse when there are kids. These behaviors can only end in two ways: police involvement and/or violence.
That's mad Kendall!, that you gave birth to Holly on the day of you're 10 year anniversary of being a you-tuber. wow!! You and Josh are my favorite you tubers, you're voices and energy are just so soothing and - I'm going to be honest and vulnerable here - I've always felt a bit guilty about being so fascinated by true crime, for reasons I reckon I don't need to explain to you. But when I discovered your channel, how compassionate and truly helpful you are to all victims and people affected by crime, I felt so at home and relieved, to find a content provider who truly cares and does so much to help and support victims and their families. I can now enjoy true crime guilt free and can contribute via you're campaigns. In my opinion you are the gold standard for how true crime content should be done, you are an example to all those involved in true crime media. I live in the UK and my Grandma was obsessed with true crime since I was a child (she was an authentically wonderful woman, and her one regret in life was that she did not pursue a career in forensic pathology). She had all these true crime books I was not supposed to look at as a child, but of course I did (when no one was looking), and my own fascination began then but stayed dormant in me until after my grandma passed away. Then one day, during a 'fibromyalgia' crash (I think Iv'e been misdiagnosed) I just got the craving for true crime stories, my inner detective passion came alive. I'm now thinking of starting my own true crime channel, but based around UK cases. And If I do, you are for sure my role model. You're not just an amazing content provider, you're a beautiful person too. Much respect to you, and congratulations on 10 years of brilliant content!
What is so sad is you can tell how absolutely exhausted and unhappy Ryan looks in all these pictures. I cannot STAND emotionally/physically abusive partners whether it be male or female… he never had a chance after this psycho got ahold of him. I hope she never sees the light of day cuz abusers never change
Having been in a toxic relationship, it is easier to break up with someone like her while being around people you trust. The gaslighting, the emotional manipulation, and the physical abuse(while being asked who would believe you). Sometimes only someone’s one image can protect you from abuse.
I feel so terrible for Ryan’s family. They lost him because Shayna couldn’t handle him breaking up with her and moving on. I don’t think it was a coincidence that his first date after breaking up with her was supposed to happen the night he was murdered. Shayna also trying to play the victim is so detrimental to real victims of DV that are afraid to come forward. Ryan didn’t deserve what happened and I hope his family can find some peace and solace while also keeping his memory alive. Rest in Peace Ryan 💔
This dispatcher deserves an award. She got to the bottom of everything in 2 minutes and worded it in the best possible way for the future jury. Amazing.
Ww
YES this, This was exactly what I was thinking.
@@onlyinsomniac yeah I agree that's insane.
@@advena996 Why would you be relentlessly pursuing your abuser? The "self -defense" story doesn't fly when YOU'RE the stalker. I think you're crazy. You have some issues related to being a victim of DV. Your statement doesn't say much about this case - but it says a lot about you.
Also when she asked her about being slammed into the couch and not having injuries
@Hulda's Journey • idk about the US but here i don't think it would raise much questions that in panic someone made sure the other party can't hurt them anymore (by death), you're in panic and not thinking things through (but if you would, still a lot of abusers get the victim at the end, so..), i mean if they survive and say they never abused you and you can't prove it, you get attempted murder instead? not much better
the question was asked because she said she killed him to put him out of his misery, not in panic or to defend, which is completely different. she literally killed him (if that was true) because she judged that paramedics can't help him anymore, that's not self defense that's murder lol
This 911 operator deserves a medal she is so cool and unbothered. Doesn't skip a beat, asks all the right questions.
My same exact thoughts as I listened to her. I was trying to figure out what could be going on through her mind. She’s probably heard so many stories like this and how they usually turn out. She knows so she knew the right things to ask.
exactly! i hear so many bad 911 calls this one was so good kudos out to her
I loved when she repeated that she shot him again after "shooting him in self defense"??!
She was almost a little annoyed lol. “I killed my boyfriend in self defense” you heard the operator sigh, like ugh not this again before she started asking questions…
A lot of times they get more relevant info then the police do 😮
My 22 yr old daughter was murdered on 8/27/22 and it’s still unsolved. When you bury your child you are unable to move on and people don’t understand that. You will do anything to hold onto the slightest thing that reminds you of them.
I’m glad they have closure and know his killer is in prison but it will never fill that empty void that is in your very soul when your child is removed from this planet before you 🥲
Thank you for giving these victims a voice ❤

I just love that her re-trial ended up with her getting life in prison. Man if that’s not great karma, I don’t know what it is.
Exactly my thought, 40 was way too less for someone without remorse. She have her whole life to laugh behind bars, and I hope everyday is miserable.
Her parole eligibility went from 34 years to 20 years though so she could only be in prison 20 years…

The fact that she just made the executive decision to keep shooting him bc she "knew he was gonna die" is absolutely shocking to me

Yes! you can’t even shoot a dog like that, it’s illegal, you have to make a reasonable effort to take it to the vet
Cold blooded murderer.
😢😢😢
That 911 operator did the interrogation and got the full confession all by herself. 🕵🏼♀️ Quite the detective she is lol.

Something that I’m surprised you didn’t mention was that she first told the 911 operator that he beat her up… and then later in the call when the operator asked her if she had any injuries, she said she has none.
What kind of supernatural being doesn’t have ANY injuries after being beaten up?!
Have you seen that movie the xmen? Wolverine also has the power to heal injuries very quickly
Apparently, Amber Heard also has this superpower.

I watched a clip of one of Ryan’s sisters speaking at the trial in another video.
This doesn't apply to psychopaths. No matter what they are deadly.

This woman gives me goosebumps. The narcissism is top tier. Wow what an evil woman.
I 100% think he was also a narcissist. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT

It’s really hard for me to sympathize with men that manipulate women in that way.

It took me 37 years to call the cops and flee ftom my narcisstic abusive birth giver
The fact that they can change defense tactics infuriates me! The juror who got the case thrown out has zero to do with her defense. You shouldn’t be allowed to say, “oops, that didn’t work, let’s try XYZ!” 🙄🤦🏻♀️
Completely agree. The fact that it’s so obviously a tactic vs the truth is insulting
Yeah I think it shouldn't be allowed, but I will say in this specific scenario, changing her defense made her look even more guilty. The lack of consistency in the defense' statements is something the prosecution really held onto to win their case.
U beat me to it! Exactly what I was thinking
Law student here,
The point of a retrial is to have a clean slate, a new defense team being bound by the arguments and approach set out by the first team would be nonsensical.
@@ollybygolly9326 that was a good explanation and it makes sense now that you said it like that. thanks for lending your expertise.

She is the type “if I can’t have you no one can!” She got what she deserved! I feel so horrible for Ryan’s family. So sad. Prayers to his family.
Happy 10 Years Kendall there are no UA-camr like you especially in true crime. Very respectful to everyone involved.
Thank you thank you!

The part gutted me. An absolute vile woman.
My cousin was just murdered a couple days ago… I’ve grown a whole new appreciation for what you do 💙 thank you for bringing light to such dark situations✨ I am praying everyday the person who hurt my cousin is caught & put to justice💙
I’m sorry to hear that. Hope you and your loved ones can take the time to heal 💗

Same crazy eyes
Parents today are raisins heartless bots.
That's exactly who she reminds me of
The fact that she could joke about shooting Ryan in the face.... no words.
Absolutely agreed! Thanks for writing this
I was thinking the same!
I agree.
since Shayna was just a girlfriend and possibly not the first he'd dated, there would've been a pattern of abuse that they could've pieced together...if her claims were true. But there were nothing. Note that the police didn't take his people's word for it, they investigated every claim made and found nothing working with her story.
100%
I'm dealing with this on a smaller degree.

I'm bipolar and I relate to this.

she’s sick. the way she thinks ppl will fall for her manipulation tactics shows how egotistical she is
Unfortunately, a lot of prisoners use this as a manipulative tactic in prisons.

That's what I wanted to say.
She’s completely unstable. Under no circumstances could she prove she wouldn’t do this to someone else if she was freed. Absolutely chilling case. I hope the best for Ryan’s family 💜
The fact that he was still alive until the final shot is so terrible… RIP :(
You can tell in photos with her, he’s detached and miserable. So heartless and heartbreaking. Thoughts and prayers to his family. 😢
This is the second time within a week that I have heard that the family is usually the one to clean up. My heart breaks for anyone that has to go through that.
This is so sad. She had no remorse for her actions. I can’t imagine what he went through during that relationship. May he rest in peace.
That is so traumatic
Always love seeing your animals in the background. It brings a little bit of comfort and lightness to such dark and depressing stories 🐱🩷
She honestly scares the crap out of me, I can only imagine how she made Ryan feel.
A classic case of “If I can’t have you, no one can.” I hope that abusive murderer rots in prison.
Jealousy was the fuel in this fire. She was getting into his Facebook account and learned he was going out with a beauty queen. I think she snapped, and she definitely has a personality disorder. Probably borderline. Such a horrible ending for two young people. This girl premeditated this murder.
Let's not armchair diagnose people with stigmatized disorders that so many good people struggle with.
@@themightywhoosh5497 amen
Crazy, stalker woman.
Acting like she did in the interrogation room might also mean she was trying to seem insane. Of course she knew she was being recorded.
I just don’t even know what to say about this case. That girl is INSANE. My gosh! I was getting goosebumps. She really doesn’t care about what she did! She is not sorry one little bit. How can you kill someone you love like this?! It scares me so much that there are people like this just out there!
I think she thought she could cry self defense and they’d let her off the hook. She seemed so confident.

Lmao was looking for this comment 😂
There was deff an eye roll with thag sign like “here we go”
She was like “I was really hoping to get thru the day without a murder call”
The dispatcher was very astute in recognizing Shayna's decision on how to describe the incident of shooting her victim in almost confessing but changing her words to self defense; she also had to have instantly noticed that admission of waiting 10-15 minutes gave a chance to change any evidence at the scene and conjure up excuses.
Thank you Kendall for bringing us another interesting case. One thing I noticed that struck me was in the midst of her call with the 911 operator, she paused and says in a total different manner to the operator something like is that her voice she was hearing echoing in background. It came across to me as something a narsistic person would notice and kinda be proud of and she sort of amped up her tragic sounding voice
. Like she was on stage performing. It was odd
🎯🎯🎯
I noticed that, too.
yes!!!
This is properly one of the saddest cases. I’ve just come across your content and I really love what you do and how you present it.
It always makes me sad when the killers are diagnosed with BPD. It makes the ones who have it, like myself, look bad. ˙◠˙
Love your videos Kendall! I love that you focus on the victims instead of the killers. ❣️
I don't see any BPD symptoms. All I see is a narcissistic sociopath. She has al the symptoms of NPD and most of ASPD.
There's people with BPD, then there's people without a conscience. She just happens to be both.
Seriously. I have BPD.
I really love the fact that you start out with the victims past and how impactful they were ❤

That way at end of night.
Yeah I was thinking that too.
Then how did he have a date already set up the very next day?
@@susanw9111 i mean, you can back down from a date any time. Not saying this is what happened but he could've regret the date at some point and wanted to give one last chance or perhaps talk in person with her before breaking up.
Yes Kendall! Girl go off with the videos

I hope she never sees the light of day cuz abusers never change
if he was so fed up why on earth would he take her to his parents home and then his home break up with her all while he has a date the next day, 🤔
@@namiin3034 because when you’re abused by a partner that’s is the kind of stuff you do. It’s a very odd but slippery and toxic slope
Having been in a toxic relationship, it is easier to break up with someone like her while being around people you trust. The gaslighting, the emotional manipulation, and the physical abuse(while being asked who would believe you). Sometimes only someone’s one image can protect you from abuse.
Kendall thank you so much for all your hard work in the last 10 years for the missing children. You are a blessing in the True crime community.
