My 22 yr old daughter was murdered on 8/27/22 and it’s still unsolved. When you bury your child you are unable to move on and people don’t understand that. You will do anything to hold onto the slightest thing that reminds you of them.
I’m glad they have closure and know his killer is in prison but it will never fill that empty void that is in your very soul when your child is removed from this planet before you 🥲

@@advena996 my comment was in reference to her shooting him multiple times after he was already on the ground incapacitated but still alive. The creepy part was that she said she shot him "to put him out of his misery" like a sick animal.
If this were an actual DV situation where the victim shot their aggressor, I would certainly be more understanding about them shooting or even killing in self defense.

@Hulda's Journey • idk about the US but here i don't think it would raise much questions that in panic someone made sure the other party can't hurt them anymore (by death), you're in panic and not thinking things through (but if you would, still a lot of abusers get the victim at the end, so..), i mean if they survive and say they never abused you and you can't prove it, you get attempted murder instead? not much better
the question was asked because she said she killed him to put him out of his misery, not in panic or to defend, which is completely different. she literally killed him (if that was true) because she judged that paramedics can't help him anymore, that's not self defense that's murder lol

But she has BPD, right? Her being like that doesn't mean that everyone is like her. As I understand it, her unmanaged psychological disorder is part of what made her what she is. Idk, should the diagnosis change anything about the trial? Because either it shouldn't, and the only importance of the diagnosis is that it should be managed outside of the court (by a therapist). Or it should, and that would mean she's barely responsible for her actions AND, which sounds terrible to me, that people with BPD should be treated as if they all have less power over their own actions than those without - etc., etc., and that's a snowball of horrible conclusions which... look like a catch 22?
How do you judge how much responsibility was of their own will, and how much was of their disorder? I don't know.

It does though. The BPD diagnosis is thrown at non-violent people where for them CPTSD would be heaps more helpful starting point on the journey if healing. Much more compassionate one as well.
BPD and the rest of the personality disorders should be reserved for people with convoluted distortions in the formation and functioning of personality. Not gentle folks dealing with childhood trauma.

I appreciate this comment. My ex-gf was very abusive and controlling, and yet it took me a while to get the courage to leave -- mainly because I felt for her, and also because I was afraid of her lashing out violently, against me, herself, or her dog, if I finally left. Then I had to endure "jokes" about how the reason it took me so long to leave was because I wanted to enjoy sexual benefits from her.. Little did anyone know, she wanted to remain celibate until marriage, so we never had sex to begin with, but the implication was that because I'm a guy, I was sticking around for selfish perks, when in reality I was sick to my stomach and agonizing over how to break free every day. Threats, gaslighting, and manipulation are all forms of abuse and can be hard enough to spot, let alone escape from, and it's important to remember the complexity so as o not further damage survivors with harmful stereotypes.

The point of a retrial is to have a clean slate, a new defense team being bound by the arguments and approach set out by the first team would be nonsensical. Lawyers, whomever their client, are supposed to act in the best interest of their client.
And while it’s hard to have sympathy for it in a case such as this, the legal system isn’t used for just sentencing obvious murderers. It doesn’t take much stretching of the imagination to imagine a scenario of a wrongful conviction where a defendant had a mediocre lawyer who approached their case in a mediocre way. Should their new defense team be bound by the previous lawyers approach if they have the opportunity for a new trial? Absolutely not.

Do you even know what borderline personality disorder is? It is caused by sexual abuse and usually domestic abuse too. So, are you verifying that she was a DV victim? You know that pretty much EVERY domestic abuse victim will get diagnosed with BPD when they seek help and for this reason 80% of patients are female? I was sexually abused at a young age, and my very first relationship at age 20 was violent. I was then in several violent and abusive relationships up until the age of 31. When I went to my doctor at age 30 having a breakdown after the latest abuse they referred me to a psychiatrist and diagnosed me with BPD. I never once received any therapy or support specifically aimed at DV victims, I was simply labelled with a personality disorder and put on a waiting list for therapy to address my "unstable emotions".
It isn't just a label you get to give anyone you don't like. It is caused by trauma during formative years and it is also a disability, yet you effectively use it as a form of abuse. Which is ironic, perhaps I should introduce you to my exes, I'm sure you would get along very well. You can get together and talk about all your "crazy exes".

The thing you mentioned about the crime scene clean up is so f*cked up, but so true. My sister's friend took himself out with a gun and his dad had to clean the scene. He did it in the shower and mentioned in his note that he hoped that would minimize the "mess". I heard a story from a horror channel where the narrator decided to share his own story where the old, bulky TV that they had fell onto of his toddler daughter. He described having to spend the night after he got back from taking her off of life support just bawling as he tried to scrub the blood out of the carpet. That was actually the first time I learned that scene clean-up is left as the family's responsibility, and that was so shocking to me.

It took 2 years for the police to tell the public she was dead. Her father was arrested and is awaiting trial.
