- High quality upload of The Cliff That Time Forgot. From the soundtrack of EarthBound, a fantastic and strange RPG for the Super Nintendo.
The EarthBound soundtrack was composed by Keiichi Suzuki, Hiroshi Kanazu, and Hirokazu Tanaka. Also credited are Akio Ohmori and Ritsuo Kamimura.
I don't know how to describe this song, the cave is so strange and bizzare, the music sounds like triumphant, like the game is saying "you're winning!" but distorted, kinda like foreshadowing a big twist, like the main problem is not resolved yet, everything feels corrupted. Also, isn't this cave supposed to be in the middle of nowhere, empty space? which makes it even more unsettling
The first time I heard it, I was like "uh, that's strange"
Now, I find this tune extremly scary, agonizing... and ESPECIALLY BECAUSE OF THIS LITTLE, SMALL CHORD at 0:08.
I couldn't explain why.
It's like the song revealing its true nature, dropping that tiny music note. This track tries to refrain its negative emptiness.
Yeah, we shouldn't be here.
Imaru!
@@nickolasjensen9648 yes! hello!
Funny thing about the distorted "You're winning" message is that, from the cave's perspective, you've already won years ago, but not from your own.
...We shouldn't be here.
Words cannot even begin to describe how anxiety inducing this part of the game is. Think about it. When you're wandering on thru in the Lost Underworld and you go thru a strange outcove thinking its just part of the intended story path and then suddenly...nothing
You're in the void. There is zero explanation as to why this land formation even exists almost to the point where it makes you believe this entire section of space does not exist in a temporal sense. Its like its own little pocket dimension that Giygas somehow materialized into being to tell you "if I destroy the universe this is all you'll see. Nothing. Forever."
Imagine getting faded by a 10 year old boy and you get so angry about this you threaten to erase all time and existence because you're so outraged by it. Take the L.
I like to imagine this is all Ness and The Gang hear when traveling through this area.
They don't hear wind.
They don't hear eachother.
They don't even hear their footsteps.
Only this. Blaring.
I would always imagine a random moment from my past and try to "look around" and focus on the environment and objects. Since there were no cameras back then, all the details are lost
This song makes me think of that
When you find a dead UA-cam channel.
The Channel That Time Forgot
When you find a map that was in beta for too much time...
Or an unfinished piece of artwork.
Nickolas Jensen I know you’ll hate me for this but: Sky Did Minecraft
when you join an old empty roblox game
It makes me feel like that too. The music plays as I stand at the begining of a red carpet, only to watch every last bit of the lovely room crumble to nothing and be lost and forgotten for eternity.
For some reason this song makes me think of a decaying throne room, a derelict chamber falling apart hundreds of years after the kingdom who's leader once occupied it perished.
Considering the role the Cave of the Past serves, it's not unfitting.
Time forgot that love is all you need
This sounds very fitting for those who are about to go into adulthood. It’s supposed to sound great, but at the same time it’s terrifying
This song never creeped me out at all, but reading the comments makes me start to.
The calm before the storm, if you will.
Or rather, the calm after the storm.
@@certifiedbigboy2201 Or actually both, because it’s the place where we should travel back in time to defeat Giygas, but until that it’s still alive
It feels like a dream
like there is nothing in here at all and yet there is something
the song feels strangely empty like it makes me turn into tv static
there's nothing here except distant noise
this comment is perfect
""you'll .. be ... freezing ... at .. the bottom .. of hell""
kinda funny how you can enter this place from the lost underworld, then you see that entrance when you pass through the whole area
I mean it's not funny it's an intentional design choice
this sounds like I'm being told I'm dead and whatever force is communicating it to me is trying to break the news gently but still fills me with dread and despair
I remembering having the most uncertain feelings as I stepped into the cave. Something was very wrong here but I didn't know what....yet.
forget lavender town
THIS THEME HAUNTS ME
There's nothing you can do that can't be done
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung
Nothing you can say, but you can learn how to play the game. It's easy
Nothing you can make that can't be made
No one you can save that can't be saved
The floor is made out of floor
This song sounds like I just learned how I'm going to die but not when
It's not Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, it's All You Need is Love. They used the drum beat from the Sgt Pepper's Reprise when you have dungeon man with you, that's probably what you're thinking of
which is part of the 1812 Overture.
+Giordan Diodato I agreed. I can't take stop listening to this music before I actually manage to make it towards that area! This song is so empty, that all I can think is total blackness, and also strange.
+Giordan Diodato actually it's from the French national anthem, "La Marseillaise"
When I got to this point I was like "Did I win?"
For whatever reason, this song really reminds me of the Hell theme from Coronation Day. Like there's a party going on somewhere nearby, and you should be happy. But you weren't invited, and the party's been over for centuries.
Ngl this gives me chills but in like a good way
This song feels wrong. Like something triumphant yet distorted after so many long years of emptiness. The esoterically hazard spiral that exists in the cave only adds to the eeriness. It reminds me in a way of humanity, all but an outcry in to the emptiness of time and reality, trying, beseeching, begging to be heard.
This song is just perfect for thos area, especially considering the first time you hear it, and later in the game finding out what it was
THIS Area might be the single most creepy and out of place thing ive ever experienced in a game, its already creepy when you have to go there through the phase distorter, but just stumbling upon it randomly in the lost underworld is genuinely terrifying, why is it even there, why is there absolutely nothing there, its such a strange anomalous place
its the scariest locale to me, this is also like the scariest video game song ive ever heard imo. It isn't super obviously scary its just strange and dissonant, I love it though, its perfect at what it does and its so symbolic. Others pointed out it sounds like a victory theme but warped and distorted, and it makes sense because you did technically win there just in the past and probably not even in the timeline you're currently in (if you did win none of this would have happened in the first place right?)
This song is scary.
Idk why but I can somehow see this playing in an old castle that's been abandoned and it make just as much sense.
Imagine a white steel hallway with a door at the end with windows shining light each whike this plays
All You Need is Love
I call this one "Trying to Work While Sleep Deprived".
This makes me think of a Pyrrhic victory;
you’ve won the war and the trumpet is weakly proclaiming your victory…while you stare at the bodies of all the fallen soldiers.
I got chills.
This low key is reminiscent of that one scene in monty python and the holy grail when bedevere and king Arthur had walked across the bridge and were now traveling through the plains
The Feel About This Song Feels
Ominous
Nope, this song is taken from the horns at the start of "All You Need Is Love", the Dungeon Man song is the one taken from Sgt. Pepper.
Almost sounds like something thats in EATEOT (Everywhere at the end of time)
the song is actually the intro to the beatles song "all you need is love"
This song is the first couple notes from 'Sgt. Peppers Lonley Hearts Club Band' by the Beatles - This game sampled alot of beatles references and melodys for this games music - even the npcs reference the beatles a few times, the ***erday (yes/no) joke in onett or the fact that ness/friends use a YELLOW SUBMARINE to leave the second desert. Pretty legendary stuff. The music after the meteor hits and ness is outside is 'strawberry fields forever' (the ending part before the song fades out), etc
it's been a decade but you're wrong it's the trumpets from "all you need is love"
Love love love
Feels like entering heaven
this song is so damn creepy
All you need is love reference
This song makes me feel like there was more to that cliff. It was once great, but now, it's just a shadow of it's past self
This song has more trumpets than the whole Pokémon RSE soundtrack....
why are all people creeped out because of this music I mean it's not scary it's awesome
zuzmax Gemini
I think the main unsettling-ness of the song comes from that _oh-so-very-slight_ misalignment with the trumpets, along with the quite bass droning in the background. It creates a feeling of wrongness concealed by a feeling of awesome.
I think it's because of the disruption this song makes to the game. It's a very different stretch than anything that's come before in the game.
All you need is love intro...?
The Beatles.
spoopy 😱
void music
Sounds like an American anthem theme
a song that's a little similar to this is Hell from a SMW rom hack called Coronation Day
first time i entered there i got super eeried out (is that a word) and got away from there fast to not return. i still wonder, what is the deal with that place and song?
"robotic step step step step step step step step step step step step step"
DDDDDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDEEEEEEEEEEEEEDEEEEEEDEeEeEeEeeeeeee
deeeeeDeeeeDEEEEEEEEDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Oh yea, I stand corrected. :)
Hey Dialga, remember that cliff?
nice yume nikki ost
This music repeats to much.
If you guys look up a song called "Crunk Muzik" by the Diplomats, they almost sound similar regarding the trumpets.
And right here that the shit starts
zoooOOOOP
Ima robot
Tony Soprano
So it turns out this is the very first part of the actual song by Cory Johnson 2x
Mante Armstrong no, cory johnson made an awesome album BASED off earthbound. If you read the albums desc on its bandcamp page it says so
good shit i am going to make a beat out of this. For an update check out my page in the near future vgtrax
sounds like a band warmup
