This was extremely compelling. Incredible spritework as well, holy moly! The 'Householder' was my personal favorite. Shoutouts to Magical Butterfly, an absolute friend to the bitter end.
Thanks a lot for the comment, I really appreciate it! The Householder sprite was the most inspired by your amazing work so I'm really glad you liked it, and I had so much fun expanding on the original BuzzBound concept! The last Magic Butterfly will forever be in our hearts...
This situation is even darker if you played cognitive dissonance before this. With buzz buzz’s (zarbol) friends having to fight giygas knowing they can’t win to give him enough time to go back in time to save the world, only for him to show up too late… If the story with fully grown poo is made into its own entire game, it’ll be cool to see a secret ending where the hammer from cognitive dissonance returns to allow zarbol’s friends to jump dimensions to help with the final fight.
I was thinking of Cognitive Dissonance the whole time I watched this video, honestly. There's still hope, between Poo being out there and Alinivar + co being out there too, those three are tough and I believe in them. Ballpeen hammer time!
He wasn’t paged as the “Universal Cosmic Destroyer” for nothing… It’s sad knowing that his original mission was simply to take out Earth as they had acquired the secrets of PSI thanks to George. He isn’t even aware of his own actions and is set to become that very cosmic destroyer he was claimed to be. He… misses his mother… Maria “I miss you.” It’s not just Ness saying that. It’s also whatever’s left of Giegue.
26:35 This can possibly be from Dark Ness’ perspective. Considering the floating Red Ness head above Buzz Buzz. He’s seeing Buzz Buzz and he doesn’t deem him a threat. That’s why he’s “DEAD” and his offense and defense are at zero. Buzz Buzz’s items are undefined because they are irrelevant in their capacity to stop him. Because in the face of Giygas, nothing matters. All except for one thing, the Sound Stone. It’s Null because he can’t reach it. Sort of implying that there is hope for Poo.
So basically you get the bad ending if you don't rush your way to the house and prioritize exploration instead of avoiding the enemies and getting things done quickly like Lumpytouch's ""Playthrough"", leading to the actual Giygas (Ness fully engulfed and possesed by it) instead of just the vessel (the Ness we encounter in the good ending's route)
It's incredible how this romhack manages to not only give that air of a haunted game (without being one), but also give a terrifying story based substantially on what could happen if ness didn't stopped giygas. Also, I liked how they gave us hints for a sequel where poo, after meditating long enough to fully raise his powers, He sets out to avenge the people of the land from the wrath of Giygas.
"You are bleeding... The walls bleed... You are bleeding... They see your name... They see your name... I am bleeding... The walls are bleeding... The walls bleed... The walls bleed... The walls bleed..." said Giygasspawn
I'm glad you like the idea! To accomplish this the actual Evil Residence enemy is simply two eyes, originally it was the entire house but as both the Evil Residence and Householder sprites are 128x128, the game would corrupt the latter's graphics as it cannot support two 128x128 enemies loaded in memory unless they use the exact same tiles. My fix was to then make the house a background instead, and that ended up looking a lot better with the animation as if the house itself was also alive. And just like the Spoil Snake and Crimson Invader enemies, the ability for an enemy to transform into another is done by using the Carbon Dog's attack where it turns into the Diamond Dog.
@@BigSharkZ Yeah, I kind of figured most of that out just from watching. Reminds me of how the Boogie Tent's sprite is just a face, and the background resembles the design of the tent itself.
Yeah, also, this one is truly the "Bad Ending" timeliness, were Buzz Buzz was unable to even come back, because in the Lumpy's alternative timeline, is like what he had to suffer after, by mistake, not getting back enough in time, and at the end, became into the Buzz Buzz you find in the game
@Nombrenooriginal not at all, is cool to see the bad endings, in the case of Lumpy, is the one if Buzz Buzz didn't get at the correct time to advice Ness about the incoming danger, here directly, get trapped and unable to do something else, try to fight it, at the end, been unsuccessful, getting a tragic end, leaving the world without hope (welp, except for one last hope remaining)
Especially if you've already seen the LumpyTouch version. Up to that point you could still assume this was just going to be an expanded version of the same story, but then it immediately becomes clear that things aren't going to end as well as they did there.
This was amazing. It's so good to see your earthbound stuff again! I hope one day you can finish "Cursed Images but it's an actual EarthBound Hack" videos I hope you have a good one!
Thank you so much for the huge super thanks, wow! I'm speechless and beyond grateful. I'll see if I can revive that project one day, thank you again and you also have a good one!
Do you think Dark Ness can be defeated? If so, how? Let me know in the comments! You can listen to the soundtrack here: ua-cam.com/video/PHV2tR8D2Xk/v-deo.html Fun fact: The Shadow Porky character is supposed to completely disappear after defeating the enemies in the Onett cave, which is a scripted fight, meaning the enemies are NPCs and not actual enemies. For some strange reason during development, it started showing up in random places as an actual enemy instead of an NPC like I scripted it to be, and it always runs away from the player. One example was it sitting on the sofa by Ness's bedroom. Fighting it would initiate the Dark Ness battle with a glitched / corrupted background and I had no idea how to fix it. Because of this I often had to re-record segments so he wouldn't show up. You can see him show up behind Ness's house in the video even though there is absolutely no reason for him to be there. Spooky!
In-character comment: Maybe defeating that huge shadow monster that was in the room a few rooms before Dark Ness's fight could give a resource that you need to beat him?
you may need to explore more of the world before ness's home i think that its a trap to pull you in when you aren't prepared and seal your fate and if that doesnt work try grinding out every enemy you can
I'm not going to lie, Buzz Buzz's fate at the hands of Sad Ness really made my heart sink. Such a brutal way to go...and seeing his image in the mass of Giygas is especially horrifying. But at least there's some small spark of hope at the end, right...?
That was grandiose despite how depressing and frightning Buzz Buzz fate was... Loved how you turned Starman Jr into a rather powerful and wrathful servant, taking the place of Pokey as here, he is of no use to Giygas.... Could go on and on for everything you did. Really hope you share the ost someday! The use of rainbow cemetary tune from sotn was so fitting since the need of the one outweights the need of the many.. brrrr! Keep up the amazing job!!
1:34 So, this map select screen is really interesting to me, because the names along cant tell you what happened. Onett takeover is obvious, Paula cult is probably what happened if the manimani statue fully took controll of mistercarpainter, and happyhappyism took over Twoson. Twisted threed is probably a result of both the manimani and the giygas takeover both having influence over the zombie town of threed. Mad laboratory is probably referring to winters, since its the only place with a lab, so that probably means that mr. Adonuts went mad with power and did something Dark moonside is where The manimani statues took over fourside completely, Making the whole city a mind destroying hellscape Maniland is probably either fourside or summers, fourside in witch you go to a secret area while the whole moonside thing is going on, while summers because thats the only town that isnt here explicit ly Fallaam could be, in my theory, when the floating city of dalaam had succumbed to giygas's imfluence, and it most likely crashed into Scaraba and The deep darkness, but poo escaped. Moonbase could be refering to how the stonehenge base moved to the moon, or that they MADE a base to the moon. Im not getting into this next one. And Happyness could be when giygas fully absorbs Ness's power. Fully spreading his infpuence across the galaxy.
Paulacult is probably a Coronation Day situation. As told by Paula herself. She isn’t in control of her own body anymore and it’s carrying a dark and cruel plan. All her power was taken by whatever force has her body, most likely the Mani Mani Statue. The only thing holding her together when you see her is the spark of a thought of revenge, this is PK Fire α. After giving it to you, Paula returns to the dark chaotic perspective of her original body.
Jesus Christ this is good wtf. I like how it isn’t just a “doom and gloom” ending too there’s actually hope due to poo. Strange how the worst party member is apparently the one who survived.
I’ve always wanted people to utilize the art of rom hacking to make their videos more convincing and seeing it here it’s genuinely shocking how good everything looks. Left me guessing the entire video just how much was actual hardware and what was edited in.
Thank you very much! I've always enjoyed doing that since over 15 years ago now, whenever I find the time for it. I really appreciate how it is a niche that people seem to enjoy a lot and I hope I can do more of it for as long as possible.
Honestly leaving the first NPC as simply 'There is no response." with zero explanation would've made it infinitely creepier. And a lot more like something you'd see on a broken bootleg ROM cartridge.
Quick idea for a fangame like this, what if buzz buzz deems the timeline doomed and travels to the island that Mother 3 takes place on to find the needles and pull them to reset everything? I feel like that would be cool
Maybe Giygas would create the Chimeras as Porky seemed to have died? Instead of wanting "tougher, rougher and badder" new species, Giygas is mixing and matching them based what his broken mind *thinks* they looked like
@@GloriousGandalf That Teenager Would Eventually Make A Game That Took 2012 To 2018 To Finish Just One Chapter, And A Side Project That Took From 2013 To 2015. Those Games Were Hits Too!
I love how you manage to show us what it would have looked like had Buzz Buzz (Zarbol in Earthbound Cognitive Dissonance) not make it in time to warn Ness about Giygas’ revenge (Gyiyg in Japanese) and how you made a reference to the original Earthbound when you encounter the first Starman and defeated him. Dark Ness has got to be one of my favorite scene/boss fight in this version because it drove home how hopeless Buzz Buzz’s situation really was. Plus adding Picky’s eventual suicide and Poo being the one to avenge Earth and the existence of the dragon (Mother 3’s dragon perhaps?) might be something to look forward to see. Nice work. [I apologize for the wall of text]
Thank you for the very kind words! Glad you enjoyed all the details. All the CD comments make me want to try it. Also no worries about the "wall of text", I enjoy long messages!
Watching this made me think of nearly every generic "hero has to fight the great and dark evil" fight and realize the fridge horror behind how bad things could have gone if they lost.
Ever since the Halloween hack, I've always felt that there should be more horror themed Earthbound content because it works surprisingly well together!
I always felt like Poo is kinda like Samurai Jack. Awesome that he's still fighting and i'm glad even after Buzz Buzz's defeat there's still hope for the world. Also, shout out to Picky, he deserved better in both timelines
I love that Dark Ness, Sad Ness and Happy Ness (I love the wordplay going on here) are basically nods to the scrapped final boss from Mother 3 that had Claus’ disembodied face as some of the fight’s backgrounds
DUDE, DUDE, DUDEEEEEEEE!!! This absolutely rules! It feels like a legit creepypasta but at the same time still loyal to Earthbound's style. Cause it's not just oh what if Earthbound was EVIL, nah what it's if Giygas won. I love all the little nods to weird technical things in Earthbound like the jumbled up text or the debug menu. All the scares, other than that jumpscare at the end, are REALLY well done and all the mutations fit with Giygas' motif of being Giygas. Loveeee the corrupted Buzz Buzz background at the end. (Also I totally noticed that Archvile sound effect being used ;) ) Obviously to defeat Dark Ness you need to feed him his favorite food. Just chuck 100 Billion pounds of Beeeeeeef and the World will be saved! I wonder what that happiness area is? I'd love to see more of this world, specfically Giygasified Earth
I've always wanted to make a story focused on Poo, whether it's a continuation of my After Years project, this one, or something else entirely. I'll keep that in mind!
@@dylanzlol7293 Honestly, in a world where speed limit signs, Dali clocks and floating smiles are my enemies, I'll gladly take someone named Poo as my saviour. 🤣
i like how the sad ness ripping apart buzz buzz scene is just a crueler representation of a little kid messing around and beating up a smaller critter out of morbid curiosity. in other words, POV: you're a small bug getting mercilessly torn to shreds by a big kid. just goes to show you how brutal a child's playful actions are when overtaken by a truly massive force of pure evil. also i just realized the wordplay pun of sad ness's name, alongside dark ness and happy ness: "sadness", "darkness", and "happiness." genius name making.
I also want to point out that the increasing damage numbers against Buzz Buzz that go as high as 75000 in the face of the cosmic malice that spans the globe is very similar to the way Giygas ends up succumbing to the goodwill from the people of the earth in the original
I both hate and love this almost as much as the original. Thank you and Lumpy for taking my favorite game and grotesquely distorting it into the stuff of nightmares.
@@BigSharkZI have a question when buzz buzz enters Edens past and we see the soul of Ness is it actually Ness or is everything all an illusion? And if so is it the same case for dark ness's lair?
Coordinates 34.2780 N, 118.8330 E correspond to Huayuan Village- a village in China on its eastern coast. The energy is being sent to Dalaam. Anyway, Dark Ness's attacks are mostly PSI, right? You have PSI Shield Beta. Reflect his stuff.
Oh wow, I can't remember what my thought process was when I wrote those coordinates (as I've been working on and off on this project), but I'm 100% sure that wasn't intentional, nice coincidence! As for Dark Ness's PSI, I didn't show it in the video but they cannot be reflected and use code from the multi-bottle rocket. And even if the damage could be sent back, his Lifeup 100% heals him. He truly is a force to be reckoned with!
@@BigSharkZ So if it DID work lore wise, that's not gonna be reflected in game. Then you might wanna have the ship hide itself by hovering in addition to the cloaking effect, and activate Code Newton to perform a quick escape after you find the fake Ness.
Maybe there is no way that Buzz Buzz can defeat Dark Ness, but the other chosen characters can. Poo must save Paula from the Happy Happy Cult and retrieve Jeff from his father’s laboratory. The trio must find the 8 Sanctuaries and destroy the Mani-Mani’s true form to even stand a modicum of a chance against Dark Ness. Also, I always wondered since the original video: What if instead of going immediately to Ness’s house, you went to the Minch residence instead?
Paula is long gone. We saw Buzz Buzz speak to her remnant and she gifted him the power of PK Fire before fading away. Maybe there's hope for Jeff, though
@@heavygunner4039But her body still remains. It wouldn’t be entirely out of the question if she could be revived in some way. There could be a key item where Paula’s remnant was that needs to be returned to her body in Twoson. Earthbound is full of key items that need to be used in specific situations.
1:28 the background image of Ness is absolutely terrifying. Its brilliant! Once i realized what it was and the horror fully sank in i found myself looking over my shoulder in fear of someone watching me. I havent done that in years. Astounding job you did with this video❤
29:58 The whole Instant Revitalizing Device sequence was the most disturbing part of all this for me. Drives home hard how Giygas was merely toying with Buzz at this point.
Whoa, this is NUTS... My first thought was that this was a REALLY well-done hand-animated imitation of EarthBound's engine (which would've been super cool in its own way), but it's rad as hell that it's actually running in-engine as a ROM hack, and it makes me want to try my hand at an EarthBound hack of my own, actually! I'm really curious what the... cobra-hooded giant Giegue silhouette? enemy would look and behave like in battle, assuming it's not just an Ultimate Chimera-style instant game over.
Thank you very much! I always do actual ROM hacking when doing storytelling like this, though I will give myself the liberty of doing a few video edits, or adding sound effects that aren't in the original game as it's easier to do them in post than to actually insert them in the game. If you'd like to learn how to hack the game, I'd be happy to help! I have my Discord server where I help out people interested in modding, otherwise there's the PK Hack server full of helpful people. As for that enemy... good question! It was added as a late idea so I didn't think too much about it, however I know I wanted it to have the proportions of Giegue and to appear gigantic. It's probably someone of Giegue / Giygas's race, possibly a commander or overlord, or an unknown entity carrying their own secret agenda.
It's just so.. depressing. To see Earth's last hope, the hero from the future, helplessly rent asunder.. He may have died fighting, but that was not a hero's end. There's no one to remember his efforts, no one to remember how he fought. He died being tortured by the very evil he swore to put an end to. Still though!! This was really well made!
This is...probably simultaneously the most horrifying and well-executed use of horror in a ROM hack adjacent project I've ever seen. Absolutely phenomenal stuff, dude! You've earned yourself another subscriber!... ...I also hope I'll be able to sleep 'cause I watched this before I was planning on going to bed...oops.
I said on ToadBup's video that if Lumpy's Buzzbound got traction it might spawn an actual horror game with Ness as the antagonist, so this is pretty creepy in a "I was just talking about this" way.
Thank you, really glad you like it! The original idea was going to be much more basic, simply showing the scrapped enemies or the enemies that weren't originally interacted with (Coil Snake, Neglected Shadow and Householder), but then I just kept adding more and more as I was having a lot of fun expanding the story and coming up with new enemy designs.
I waited 12 days to see this home alone, in pure darkness. Just finished watching the video as I write, how Happy Ness beating Buzz Buzz was reverse Paula's Prayer damage...and I am scared to the core! I needed to grab my pillow, and the distress I experienced with the sound effects with Picky! You, Big Shark Z, are a PRIME example of why passion projects like these are ALWAYS worth the time they may need, and that the desire of one merely needs to be quelled by just being patient, instead of tormenting the creator for more. I still remember maaany summers ago watching your CursedBound Episode 4, I still remember seeing it as a notification on my phone. You've come a long way, even if I started seeing you after these series, and not from the VERY start. But as I believe I am making this message a bit too long, I will say double kudos to you for making this awesome masterpiece, and another for reading me out! -Professor Aitor
People have pointed out the reference to the unused Claus backgrounds with Sad/Happy Ness, but I noticed the 'first phase' theme also takes heavy inspiration from the actual final battle with Claus in Mother 3, and arguably a bit of influence from the infamous unused track that got associated with the cut sprites.
When Picky shot himself I let out a sob, and I was just frozen when Buzz Buzz was being tortured. My God, this story is as heartwrenching as it is terrifying. As someone who loved EarthBound before it even became popular over here in the west, it broke me to see these characters that I've loved for years struggle and suffer like this. Beautiful, amazing work that had me on the edge of my seat the whole time; I'm truly hoping there's some positive resolution in store for these characters.
Oh man, this romhack is crazy good! Can't believe you could code all of this stuff into Earthbound with the tools we have now... Absolutely love the moments you put in there, personally I love the horror of Dark Ness delivering mortal blow after mortal blow even after Buzz Buzz is pretty much dead, and the Householder appearance was also very well done! I definitely am excited for what will happen after this point in the Buzzbound story...
Thanks a ton! Yeah! I haven't done EarthBound stuff in some time, so when I got back to it, I was shocked to see all the amazing progress that was made in terms of scripts. For example, I was able to create my own movement codes for those horizontally-moving spheres as well as Ness's ghost. Stuff like making map tiles and battle swirls distort like battle backgrounds was also so much fun to mess with! It can really make the game feel much more different when combining a bunch of scripts and my videos wouldn't be the same if not for the help of all the great people that create them or help me figure out how to script my own things. Glad you liked those moments you mentioned too, definitely would love to make a story focused on Poo sometime!
This was really cool! I almost wish there was more ambiguity at the end to up the creepiness and speculating but man, the effort behind this is awesome!
Regarding how the Devil's Machine activated, and how Buzz Buzz's ship was found... Do you think Starman Prime had something to do with both of those? Also, the whole thing about Ness's file getting deleted... Was that meant to imply that Giygas had already gotten to Ness?
considering it happened right after buzz buzz hit it with the devil machine gun i feel like the blast of evil energy caused the other parts of the devil machine to attach themselves to giygas
The way I saw Starman Prime when designing him, I didn't really think of him being much of an ally towards Giygas. He hates the Starman Legion for how they treated him as Starman Jr., and acts more as a lone wolf fuelled by the need for revenge towards Buzz Buzz. Starman Prime still sides with Giygas as he knows he is no match for him, but I don't think he would go very far into helping carrying out his plans. He just wants Buzz Buzz dead in every timeline where he exists and is alive, and won't stop until he reaches that goal. After that, he would probably try to take down the Starman Legion, or create his own as their commander to rebel against the ones that have hurt him. As for the Devil's Machine, while writing about it, I imagined it was the intense shock of the Devil's Machine gun that sent a signal to it as the weapon is made of the same organic material that the machine itself is made of. As it was sensing a part of it was attacking Dark Ness and dealing tons of damage, it probably activated a survival mechanism to further upgrade and empower him. The energy stolen from the planet and its inhabitants is most likely being shared between vantage points as well as the Devil's Machine, which in turn makes Giygas stronger by the minute. Like many comments have mentioned, it's why the outcome here was different; Buzz Buzz took too long to reach Ness. And for Buzz Buzz's spaceship, he did not take into consideration the possibility that the spaceship's energy was also being drained by those magnetic devices, and so its cloaking shield eventually stopped working and the nearby Shadow Invaders detected it and destroyed it right away. The save file with the text set to slow was to visually represent Ness having been fully corrupted and becoming stronger (level 99), and deleting the save file was to make it seem as if the player was afraid of a save they didn't create themselves and wanted to delete it. Hope you don't mind the lengthy explanation!
@BigSharkZ I don't mind at all, actually! This pretty much answered a lot of my questions regarding this! Thanks for that, BigShark! Wish I got to actually PLAY this ROMhack, mainly cuz I wanna see what the other enemies are like, as well as what other things I can discover.
@@BigSharkZ what would've happened if the player decided to load ness's file? considering the menu turns red when it's highlighted, (and the circumstances leading to the save menu even being open) would the game have just freaked out and crashed again?
I wonder if the "Happyness" scene is the ending or something even worse... Thoroughly enjoyed this! Reminds me of those first feelings i had as a little kid on youtube watching the "secret disturbing" fights from mother 3.
To me, "Happyness" seems like another instance of Giygas's influence somehow being enough to mess with Buzzbound's cartridge, like that entire scene with the Giygaspawn triggering some kind of anti-piracy protection because its attack literally corrupted the game. Especially considering the "DO NOT LOAD" label, I wonder whether merely viewing the contents of Happyness would cause some kind of illness. Like the symptoms the player was described to experience, or what those at the SCP Foundation call a cognitohazard. Or maybe it's dangerous on a technical level, like loading whatever's on there could permanently damage the cartridge, the SNES it's loaded into, and maybe even the TV it's hooked up to. Again, you've likely seen that Giygaspawn sequence.
I love the idea how this could be taken as Buzz Buzz going to another timeline of when Ness was already consumed by the big baddie and now has to see what would've happened if Buzz Buzz never made his appearance. I'm so happy we get more character for a one off character in the original, Buzz Buzz is the REASON Ness even has said adventure in the game and it goes such a long way if you know of said reason. (ofc you do, you played it) so seeing it as a timeline where Ness is truly gone but Poo isn't is such a awesome concept, something I cannot wait to see how you do it. I wanna also put in things I fucking LOVED about what you did with ending for each fight. Instead of saying "You tamed an enemy" its just "you defeated an enemy" as my personal perspective i took that as "Buzz buzz killed them in self defense." while in the original Ness tamed an enemy and didn't kill them. I think its amazing how well the idea with the writing works for this as a concept. Its so good. I also wanna say this, this is one of my favorite aspects of what you did for Picky. Picky being one of the last kids you see who is legit alive. His weapon is a handgun. Something I thought was interesting is how Picky would've rather taken his own life than having to be in more hell, I mean you can blame him? He lost his love ones. I think what was really amazing for a short amount of time was the foreshadowing of said death. The fact Picky kept coughing as if he was infected and was gonna become a monster, I fucking LOVED the character writing for this. One last thing is how you did Buzz Buzz's death, holy shit that was so brutal, like when I saw that I was like "DAMN you hated Buzz Buzz that much?????" I was fucking losing my shit, how even after Buzz Buzz supposedly died Dark Ness just kept fucking going at it, what a brutal yet dark death for the best character in the game. Buzz Buzz, you are a real one. anyway i'll stop babbling, fucking amazing video dude!
I loved your earthbound after the years video i still need to get original art of adult Christmas ness, and the video came out at a fitting time where i became a adult or a little after so great timing, so it’s nice to see you making more original things again so thanks for adding to the lumpy touch video by making things more involved.
Wtf this is so fun!!!! I really hope you complete it holy crap ❤ I love the idea of a "bad end" universe... With Poo as a main character it seems to go to the very last chance humanity has... This is super fun lol Looking forward to whatever you make in the future!
It's easy to go a little overboard with the dark aspect, where it becomes edgy and cringe but THIS clearly came from someone who understands the aesthetics of the Mother series well.
Trapped in a darkness bubble, pummeled over and over again in cruel delight, had his wings slowly peeled off, legs crushed with unrelenting force, arms torn off with strong telekinetic force, mind mercilessly assaulted by a psychic onslaught until driven to madness, heart then removed and consumed, face forcibly contorted to resemble a smile, and then finally his soul consumed to be made one with Giygas. That's not even obliteration. That's full of erasure in every sense of the word. Really goes to show how much of an unforgivable evil that Giygas truly is. Makes it feel all the better when you do destroy him in the actual game.
I was already fascinated with Lumpy Touch’s Buzzbound, so seeing this sequel/spinoff intrigues me even more. The enemy mutations remind me of John Carpenter’s The Thing. I also really like future Poo’s design.
Thanks! I've actually been working on some playable Poo sprites and updated his design a bit, so for when I ever decide to do a continuation to this project you can look forward to more of him!
Giygas is real, guys, he has gained too much faith in him. I watched this at night, and had a dream of giygas-like white creature blanking out my vision and doing the Giygas attack, and then i woke up, and felt too weak to do morning exercise. He's in the spiritual plane, watching from the darkness. We don't know what he'll do. He doesn't know himself.
What makes this bad ending cool is how Buzz Buzz's death, specifically HOW he dies, is similar to what Poo's meditation put him through in the original Earthbound. Having their bodies, minds and souls tortured by floating heads, lol. Buzz was consumed, Poo wasn't. I feel this is symbolic of how Poo has completely transcended his own inner evil/darkness. The Ness of this timeline didn't have the chance to train his mind and face himself and his inner evil/darkness, which made him a victim to them.
The connections go CRAZY man, whoever made this put a lot of thought and consideration into it. Original timeline Poo's meditation process could be psychically connected to this bad ending timeline. Perhaps Buzz Buzz's last, burning hope that was picked up on by Poo in multiple timelines.🤯
I've beaten Earthbound several times now, recently watched both endings of Buzzbound and I can't get these games out of my head as of late, so maybe posting my interpretations will help get it off of my mind. TL;DR: Ness embarked on a journey of self-reflection to overcome the evil in his own mind and become more empathetic to help himself along with others. At the beginning of Earthbound, a bug named Buzz Buzz traveled from the future in a spaceship to warn the main character, Ness, a boy imbued with incredible psychic powers, about an impending alien doom named Gigyas, a being of pure evil coming to take over the world. The main characters appear as children due to our intentions and views of ourselves being innocent, but as we progress and self-reflect, we learn that maybe we weren't as innocent or as good as we thought we were. Ness represents body, Paula represents heart, Jeff represents mind, Poo represents soul. Body, heart, mind and soul. Buzzbound is a fan-made prequel to the official Earthbound. ***SPOILERS AHEAD*** Buzzbound involves Buzz Buzz landing in a time that wasn't far back enough and has to do battle with lovecraft-like monsters that were twisted and shaped by Gigyas influence. Buzz Buzz is seemingly unfazed by the twisted abominations he encounters, which leads me to believe the future he came from is even more grotesque than this one. There are 2 endings. 1. The normal ending: Buzz Buzz wastes no time getting to Ness's house and defeating the shell of Ness that has yet to be fully consumed by Gigyas by emergency-nuking the place, then hightailing out of there, injured, to the correct timeline. 2. The Bad ending: Buzz Buzz spends too much time exploring and fighting before arriving to Ness, who has been fully consumed by Gigyas. Gigyas toys with Buzz Buzz's mind from the moment he enters the house. Gigyas-possessed Ness takes three forms, Dark Ness, Dark Ness Awakened, and Sad Ness. Regardless of how leveled up you are, Buzz Buzz is tortured physically, mentally, and spiritually before having his entire soul consumed and absorbed into Gigyas himself. Though, not before Buzz Buzz is able to send off the sound stone off in a last-ditch effort to reach out to anyone/anything that could stop Gigyas on Planet Earth's last day of not being in eternal darkness. He went in WAAAAAY too deep before pulling out and getting the fuck out of there, no clue what he was thinking here, lol. All of this could be viewed from a literal bug's point-of-view towards us.😬 Even the victory themes after a battle are bleak-sounding, giving a bittersweet feeling of, "did I truly win"? ``"Whoever Fights Monsters Should See To It That In The Process He Does Not Become A Monster''. The more you fight, the higher the chance of you getting the bad ending. Bad news, regardless of which ending you take, Buzz Buzz still dies in the end. Good news, in the official timeline, Buzz Buzz doesn't get tortured and assimilated on every plane of reality, along with successfully warning and protecting Ness. Quite a jump to make, but now we're jumping to the end part of Earthbound. Near the end of the game, you and your party fight Diamond Dog, the final sanctuary boss. After defeating him, Ness loses consciousness and becomes trapped in his mind. I interpreted this as Diamond Dog forcing him to self-reflect (diamonds being self-explanatory for this, lol). Eventually, after venturing far enough into his own mind, he confronts the evil in the far-reaches of his own mind showing up to him in the form of a golden Mani-Mani Statue. Many players say this is the hardest fight in the game, due to having to fight him solo. Shortly after defeating him, Ness awakens to his hidden power and receives a lot of level-ups and upgrades. He rises to consciousness again with his party members looking puzzled. Ness and his party then have to put their minds in robots in order to be able to time-travel to the past to fight Gigyas. After the time-travel, this is the point of no-return in the game, so if you have anything to do before this point, go take care of it now. When Ness and his party approach the engine of Gigyas (which looks like an embryo), Ness's face emerges from the core. This implies the pure evil Ness is facing is himself. Ness had to reflect on his mind, intentions, and his past in order to become a more empathetic being, even when it came to animals and plant life, so he could use his psychic powers for good instead of evil. Ness and his party putting their minds into robots before the final fight symbolized them gaining the ability to place themselves in the shoes of something outside of themselves to also view themselves, lol. Gigyas engine forming the face of Ness at the embryo-looking core symbolized that this moment impacted Ness the most, the importance of the message the universe had to deliver to Ness, and that what was once alien was only alien to them because they had yet to fully understand what was being shown to them. What was outside of them, despite it appearing as alien of origin and pure evil, was still within themselves. It was all crystal clear now. What was once an invading alien force was a reflection of who the main characters and humanity were to other people and living things. Combatting this all-consuming human evil within himself would birth a new version of himself, also taking care of the problem before it turns into something worse. They eventually overcame this and came back to themselves. I may or may not come back to this status to add more of my insights, but I find this game and symbolism fascinating. Canon timeline: Appreciation and care for life, right down to the smallest and seemingly insignificant life-forms will help our connections, relationships, and the planet Earth thrive. The Bad ending of Buzzbound: Refusal in having empathy or taking pleasure in the destruction/suffering of others, whether they be people, animals, or plants, will result in the destruction of humans and Earth. The creator of this game is GALAXY-brained I tell you.😌💖
As someone who loves the Mother series very much this is equally as creative as it is Terrifying and utterly disturbing to the core The fact we now have a visual representation of what would happen if giygas actually managed to take over the universe shakes me to my very core and has scarred my mind for many years to come this video deserves way more views.

This situation is even darker if you played cognitive dissonance before this. With buzz buzz’s (zarbol) friends having to fight giygas knowing they can’t win to give him enough time to go back in time to save the world, only for him to show up too late…
If the story with fully grown poo is made into its own entire game, it’ll be cool to see a secret ending where the hammer from cognitive dissonance returns to allow zarbol’s friends to jump dimensions to help with the final fight.
I was thinking of Cognitive Dissonance the whole time I watched this video, honestly. There's still hope, between Poo being out there and Alinivar + co being out there too, those three are tough and I believe in them.

This can possibly be from Dark Ness’ perspective.

Magical Butterfly was the MVP
A Starman actually using its Sword of Kings is clever as heck.
making the house a part of the battle background for the Householder fight is both genius and VERY EarthBound

Do you think Dark Ness can be defeated?
If so, how? Let me know in the comments!
You can listen to the soundtrack here: ua-cam.com/video/PHV2tR8D2Xk/v-deo.html
Fun fact: The Shadow Porky character is supposed to completely disappear after defeating the enemies in the Onett cave, which is a scripted fight, meaning the enemies are NPCs and not actual enemies.
Spooky!
Porky is messing with you even after giygas took care of him lol
In-character comment: Maybe defeating that huge shadow monster that was in the room a few rooms before Dark Ness's fight could give a resource that you need to beat him?
Could a Post Magicant Ness even beat Dark Ness?, honest question here 👀

The fact he never dies, too
That was grandiose despite how depressing and frightning Buzz Buzz fate was... Loved how you turned Starman Jr into a rather powerful and wrathful servant, taking the place of Pokey as here, he is of no use to Giygas.... Could go on and on for everything you did.

Onett takeover is obvious,
Paula cult is probably what happened if the manimani statue fully took controll of mistercarpainter, and happyhappyism took over Twoson.
Twisted threed is probably a result of both the manimani and the giygas takeover both having influence over the zombie town of threed.
Mad laboratory is probably referring to winters, since its the only place with a lab, so that probably means that mr. Adonuts went mad with power and did something
Dark moonside is where The manimani statues took over fourside completely, Making the whole city a mind destroying hellscape
Maniland is probably either fourside or summers, fourside in witch you go to a secret area while the whole moonside thing is going on, while summers because thats the only town that isnt here explicit ly
Fallaam could be, in my theory, when the floating city of dalaam had succumbed to giygas's imfluence, and it most likely crashed into Scaraba and The deep darkness, but poo escaped.
Moonbase could be refering to how the stonehenge base moved to the moon, or that they MADE a base to the moon.

And Happyness could be when giygas fully absorbs Ness's power. Fully spreading his infpuence across the galaxy.

I wish there was reference to Mother: Cognitive Dissonance but making Poo into Samurai Jack is pretty genius ngl
Hey that's a really good one, Poo does remind me of samurai Jack indeed being the only one who can change the timeline at this point.
when the sound stone mentioned the 8 sanctuaries being on the 8 other planets, it made me think of Mother: CD
@@SunnyandCuddly Got my hopes up. But hey version 2.XX is such a joy to play and it's not even done I just can't get enough of it
gotta get back, back to the past samurai poo
When Picky shot himself I let out a sob, and I was just frozen when Buzz Buzz was being tortured. My God, this story is as heartwrenching as it is terrifying. As someone who loved EarthBound before it even became popular over here in the west, it broke me to see these characters that I've loved for years struggle and suffer like this. Beautiful, amazing work that had me on the edge of my seat the whole time; I'm truly hoping there's some positive resolution in store for these characters.
Yeah me too. I want to see Poo bring everyone back to life and have a happy ending
The worst part is that i don't think Buzz Buzz truly died until Giygas decided to open his chest
@@BigSharkZ So You're Telling Me That ALL OF THIS Was Made In-Engine? Like, Its An .sfc File That Can Run On An Emulator?!
@@BigSharkZhow did you learn to code?
The story Itoi stays silent about.
*Shigesatoi Itoi wants to know your location*
@@BigSharkZ Oh no...
This was really cool! I almost wish there was more ambiguity at the end to up the creepiness and speculating but man, the effort behind this is awesome!
"Giygas, the Universal Cosmic Destroyer, emerged victorious." might be one of the most horrific sentences man has ever written.
@@BigSharkZ Starman Prime eventually becoming an ally to Buzz-Buzz after seeing what happens when Giygas wins would be interesting.
@@BigSharkZ what would've happened if the player decided to load ness's file? considering the menu turns red when it's highlighted, (and the circumstances leading to the save menu even being open) would the game have just freaked out and crashed again?

Its always a gift to see a new Earthbound hack video from you.
Thank you! And comments like these are the gift that make me keep doing these videos.
Really wanna know what happens if you face the big NOPE/visualized paralysis demon at the 26:10 mark
probably instant death like the ultimate chimeras in mother 3
Wait, is this a fully functional romhack? That's baller

It's easy to go a little overboard with the dark aspect, where it becomes edgy and cringe but THIS clearly came from someone who understands the aesthetics of the Mother series well.

This shit is so gnarly
Some of the coolest shit comes out of the earthbound community i swear
36:48 when some baby is staring at you in a store so you pull this face
I find the idea of some random dev putting a creepy-ass picture of Ness in the background of the debug menu hilarious.
Great stuff here!
this is super well made, nicely done :D
I was already fascinated with Lumpy Touch’s Buzzbound, so seeing this sequel/spinoff intrigues me even more. The enemy mutations remind me of John Carpenter’s The Thing. I also really like future Poo’s design.

I would absolutely LOVE to see this timeline further fleshed out just to see where it goes, this is awesome!
***SPOILERS AHEAD***
Buzzbound involves Buzz Buzz landing in a time that wasn't far back enough and has to do battle with lovecraft-like monsters that were twisted and shaped by Gigyas influence.
All of this could be viewed from a literal bug's point-of-view towards us.😬
Even the victory themes after a battle are bleak-sounding, giving a bittersweet feeling of, "did I truly win"?
