Depends on the level of said person's DIY. There are lots of people that really enjoy it and have oscillating tools, router's and table saws etc. You don't have to be in the trades to have them

All brilliant! I think I would've put the hollow-core door safe on the hinge side, though, just to be less easy to notice. On top would be totally hidden.
As someone who is extremely tall, I can tell you that the top is not completely hidden.

Yep and what would really be ironic is if someone did break into his home and notice all of the tools and think "this guy is a carpenter...let's see what's behind the walls". Then the thieves would still get away with the money, jewelry and some sweet tools to boot!
Not many homeowners have an oscillating tool, a drill, a router and a circular saw? Cause that’s mostly what he used her besides the welder
I'm an average home owner, and I own all of those tools.....and more. And, no, I'm not a carpenter. I work in retail.

Cool except there’s not usually a recess like that behind tile. It usually has Hardiebacker, metal mesh, or at least drywall and studs back there, not just a gaping hole. It’s also pretty easy to see when grout has been cut like that even if it’s been filled in with caulk or something after the fact.
Most of these look like well engineered, creative storage cubbies, but not really hidden.

I was so confused at that one, because where I live there would be brick or concrete on the other side of those tiles.
there clearly is drywall behind the tile
also you'll notice he moves a bathroom cabinet before cutting out the hole, he will presumably move the cabinet back making the tiles hidden from sight
2:01 The secret cache is on the wrong side of the door and is visible when the door is opened. If the door can be opened so wide, it is better to place it on the hinge side nd at knee height - out of direct view.
Better to put your £ in the bank unless it’s illegal stuff .

I really like the "floating shelf" desk, very smart & nice innovative ideas built in. A bit too wobbly for my liking but there are ways to stabilise it (changing the design and aesthetic, but I've learned you can't always have everything the way you want it 😝)
And unless you were born into money good luck having the tools and material to actually do any of the shit you see on boobtube......
I had my doubts thebwireless charger would actually work through the wood, but it's pretty neat. Definitely my favorite of the three

@@stephenandersen625 why stud finder? Judging by the drill, he was drilling into some sort of brick wall or aerated concrete. It does not look like wooden construction.
Ookay... I'll use UK stud walls asa a reference since I'm a brit; you may have about 4" (100mm) space behind stud walls, so that does offer some potential for hidden storage space, and while tile grout is a poor option for the border, there are various types of gap seals that could be made to act like a filler/secret border that would blend in far better than the grout example which would fail after a couple of uses. That combined with the example here having a rack of shelves in the way would definitely make such a hidden store harder to find. You could also install a hidden lock, which would be something along the lines of a gravity fed steel bar that drops into place when closed, this could be easily lifted with the aid of a magnet.
You COULD get larger wall cavities, but that depends entirely on the wall and I can see some would make such a hidden wall store/safe deeper adding timbers to the existing wall timbers and boarding over that
The door cavity is something I've seen before, though its usually blended in much better than this and has some kind of hidden lock to prevent its opening by accident.
The computer desk is intriguing, though I was more than a little concerned by how flimsy the wall mounts appeared to be
Yep, I built in bookshelves for our study and did something along those lines. While all the other shelf units were given a conventional ply backing before being fitted to the walls, one of them was left with a gap the height of one shelf, at about knee height - or, to put it another way, the second shelf up from the floor. The neighbouring shelf unit had rails attached for a sliding panel that comes across and clicks into place via magnets I embedded in the wood - the sliding panel has matching metal plates glued to the back. If I want to open the panel, I simply push it back by about half an inch, against the wooden rails, to break the contact with the magnets, then use a big bar magnet I keep hidden to 'stick' on the metal plates and act as a handle to slide open the panel. Within the cavity I keep a small lock box. Throw in all the books that are normally sitting on the shelf, and no one is going to find it, especially as there's 7 separate shelf unites side by side in the study. I deliberately put the hiding place low so that it's nowhere near the kind of eye-level height most intruders would look for. :)
The door storage would be better if it would have been on the other end of the door (between the door hinges) because then it would be much more hidden + it didn't blend in with the door.
Very smart storage place though.
Great DIY if everyone had a welder welding table and grinder.

The door thing in the beginning is cool but I've learned that simply putting things out of the eye line keeps most people from noticing hidden things. A little high or a little low and people just miss it all together. People don't see what they don't expect to see.
Jut be careful what you define as line of sight. I can home from college 1 weekend and my parents had to step out, leaving the home locked, and I didn't have a key. I then looked on the eye level shelf immediately next to the door and there was a key, I laughed as it opened the locked door. I laughed because my mother was short - to her it was out of sight.
He has a million dollar shop and all the tools plus the knowledge.
Most of us aren't that fortunate.

I would definitely want more support on the floating desk. More bolts, maybe bigger bolts, maybe a triangle support below.
For the video his arms were not resting on surface. This design is not at all stable!
I don’t wish to appear negative, but the end product is not worth the effort. It doesn’t look so great and is definitely not very stable.

For many years my Father would make wall pocket pantry spaces, not as secret storage but just extra pantry space. Cut into the dry wall, frame it with 2x4 and put shelves of various heights. He used louvered wooden pantry doors over them. The thickness of the pantry door was the amount of space that stuck out into the room so it wasn't much.
The depth of the shelving was the same as the width of the walls, just deep enough to store cans, boxes of pasta or other kitchen items. In bathrooms you could store shampoo, shaving cream, perfumes, medication and unpacked rolls of toilet paper.
In his last home he had about 7 or 8 of these through the home in different rooms. It was so much extra storage space that more than half of your "normal" items for a room could be stored in these extra spaces which would have been wasted otherwise.
I've done the same in our house to create arched niches for my wife's art deco pieces. Throw in a slightly protruding shelf, and you have about five inches of depth.

"Donate to my patreon" how much would you pay to have your name scroll by so fast you'd have to pause it to see it? I bet they make money when the video gets paused too. What's the word that fits the definition of a lazy piece of shit that doesn't want to work for a living but expects to have everything handed to them? Soon all the scams will be exposed and too obvious to ignore. The world of fantasy is about to be bitch slapped by reality and these scamming scum bags will get exactly what they deserve......

Careful with the table saw. I don't like that you had your fingers over the blade when you ran the piece through. Use a scrap piece instead. Otherwise, very good job.

Being alert and one with the tool is way better than a guard or push stick, unless experienced common sense tells you otherwise.
It took me 45 yrs to get bit by a shaper, and it was my own damn fault. But I learned from it and approach it differently.
(Jury rigged/router shaper and pushing right to the limit with it.)
Never lost a finger, but left a few Jim-bits…or sushi behind!😂

Use those paneling panels with the look of tile. Easy to install, and you can hide the opening better, since you can cover the cuts with silicone caulking, not grout.

Im most jealous of this guys functional knowledge of mostly cabinetry hardware... and jigs... the jigs are pretty fly... I AM a carpenter, but to make a custom drawer rail would be a nightmare and take all day like measure 5 times cut twice, then fix something
Better place for secret storage in the door is from top.
i usually try not to remove doors by unscrewing the hinges, sometimes it bores out the holes and makes it go back in wrong. just use a nail and hammer to quickly get the hinge pin out

With the floating desk, I might assume the indentation was to stop pencils from rolling off of the desk. However, if I saw you use it for wireless phone charging, my curiously may tempt me to peak underneath to see how it's designed or what's being used to perform the charging.

Yes, but there is the solution of choosing the other door edge, the one that is only exposed when the door is open. And to cut out the door along its entire length and re-glue a wooden stick on the drawer to camouflage the whole thing more harmoniously.

That floating desk top was too janky for me. Also when I lay tile, there is something to usually lay it on to. I've never seen floating tile walls
I thought the exact same thing.
He used a dremel tool that cut past the drywall. The dry wall is still attached to the tile he removed. Slow it down, zoom in or at least put some effort before commenting

The tiles... forger the tape, use caulking (ONLY on the grout, apply carefully) and slice with an exact knife when dry. The line will be almost invisible. Works with fresh latex paint on drywall of you do it before it cures completely

He welds box tubing joints without chamfered edges then grinds welds smooth. The welds are paper thin as a result.

Quickie, low carpentry - Cut open and install 3 or 4 gang electrical box at wall receptacle height, they make some in plastic with tabs to sandwich drywall. Look for place not likely to have plumbing or electrical near floor, might need to cut and remove insulation.
Cut a blank cover screws short and glue into place.
Use magnet latches (and glue guides if needed) to hold cover to electrical box.
If needed, cut and install board between studs to box in bottom (will probably need more than 1 board to fit through opening) though this is not likely needed because you aren't far above floor.
Depending on the stud placement, you have a hidden cubby, 3.5" or 5.5" deep (depending on 2x4 or 2x6 studs), 14.5" or 22.5" wide (depending on stud spacing), about 16" high, which you can place almost anywhere for convenient access, without drawing attention.
Can do similar mimicking an HVAC floor or wall vent if larger space or access desired.

Nona of that was "cardboard" or "sticks." One was a typical interior door. Another was a typical wall. A third was a concrete wall. What's your issue?
I wouldn't exactly call this stuff "do it yourself" level, unless you have some significant experience with welding, wood work, a fairly SERIOUS tool shop, and various high end equipment. It might be simpler to just rename this video. If you can create things on this level, renaming a video should be a snap.

Nice but, if you say DIY, you should only use equipment that everyone has at home. Not everyone has welding equipment or other special power tools in their garage.
He built it himself. If he restricted it to only using tools that that 'everyone' has at home he'd have to build it with his hands and a spoon.

It's an example. Use it as the draw, put some mildly expensive jewelry in it. Use the better hidden ones for the real stuff. A thief will stop once he thinks he's found the hidey hole.

Um, it is at my house. 😄😄 I've got MIG ( wire feed like he has) and arc welders, both.
Not sure if I'll have any at all once my soon-to-be ex-husband that abandoned me out of the blue after 38½ years and filed for divorce the day after our 39th anniversary gets done taking stuff from me, but as for now, I have both kinds.

I would put that hollow door safe at the bottom of the door. Less likely to be noticed or touched. Best of all, if the money falls off the clips, it can be retrieved easily and seen. Not so if it is higher up.

Except most walls are just a 2x4 thick not the big box he put in. Also tile just doesn't float on a wall it's adhered to drywall or something. So where that looks like a cool idea is not very likely to have a wall that defies physics like he had.

Great idea, but just to remind all... front entrance doors should be solid core doors. So if you move into an apartment, change out the hollow core door ASAP. Keep and store then replace when you leave!! Always have three hinge exterior doors!!
