Great little doc. Funny thing is I remember I was one of the first ones to use the first Roku player to stream Netflix movies. My friends didn’t know what the hell I was doing. Now I still have the DVD plan and some people don’t even know that’s how Netflix started, with DVD’s.
When I fist used Netflix it was pay per disk - $3.49 each. When it went to a subscription based service in around 2000 for ~$20/month I quit since that would have made each disk much more expensive since I did not watch that often. I joined again in 2009 when my viewing increased to make it worthwhile.
My 30 something kids make fun of me because I still get the DVD's. I like it because I can hang onto them as long as I need to if I can't get to watch them right away. I can always rent something from other services online, but I still love the DVD's.

I find that their DVDs have a far richer selection than streaming. Perhaps 1 in 20 movie titles I select to watch are available streaming. I recently cancelled my Netflix streaming service since I rarely used it.
I very clearly remember getting that red envelope in the mail like 10-11 years ago.
I remember in 2012 when I had a triniton, a Blu-Ray DVD player from LG, an amplifier, and of course, getting DVDs by mail
Hope it keeps going for a long time, as I still like getting movies in the mail along with my streaming subscription, and there are titles you can get on disc that aren't streaming.
Also a big help for folks with slow or limited internet!
Love it!
it's actually mindblowing
Come back dvds
I love DVD Netflix, so glad I can watch movies in Blu-ray
This is probably why some people got rid of movie collection and just rent or stream them off Netflix because keeping movies in cases takes up room.
Netflix was so different back then
It's an example of a company that evolves with the times. =)
Blockbuster just wanted to stay the same and ended up closing its doors.
I remember getting Fast and furious in the mail. Those were the day man
im getting old thats some 09 shit damn.

Remember finding the movie you loved and didn't want to return so you would claim it showed up broke and keep it? Lmao good ol days
Seriously? I literally don't know anyone that did that. Copy them, sure, I know people that did that and built up big collections ( not me, too lazy ), but just keep them? No. Wouldn't they have cut you off after a while as suspicious?
Ste Cork I'm not sure if they ever cut people off. To be honest I thought of that at the time and just decided to keep the movies I REALLY liked. I did it about a dozen times overall in maybe three years and they never said anything ... It was always "oh we're sorry another copy is on the way". I imagine broken disks probably happened a lot since they were shipped in paper sleeves only.. I was young then and young kids are douchey so it never bothered me but I probably wouldn't do it now. Yeah copying the DVD itself was always way too much work for me plus I didn't have the hardware for it. But once peer2peer sharing came out and pirate Bay made piracy so easy there really wasn't a need to fraud them when you can just steal it. As messed up as that sounds it was the truth then lmao
nope never did that, if I really wanted a movie I would spend 20-30 dollars to buy it. but quite a few did arrive broken, which was always a let down, you were looking forward to watching it, then you return it for the same movie and wait another week to get a unbroken copy. I wonder how many movies are broke on the way back to Netflix.
Thief and a Liar.
@@zipg246 ye i know. this is so fake and they don't get free neftlix on tv.
It has come so hard now being a successful exclusive network like HBO and STARZ
