I know this comment is 3 years later, but I’m still using Netflix DVD and not going to stop. Thank you for providing me with endless entertainment without having to stream it.
Just signed up last night! As someone who loves physical media, im happy it still exists :)
The red envelope ensures that I can watch movies in highest fidelity making full use of my home theater and prevents me from having a patchwork of subscriptions. Unless Netflix comes up with a better alternative, I hope it doesn't go away!
I’m never giving up my DVD subscription. Call me crazy but I prefer it more than their streaming service.
Better selection on DVD
Dvd is the best part of netflix crazy since no one I know uses it :o
I just switched back to my DVD subscription, because I rarely used their streaming service.
me too
I remember being so excited when I was eight when I got the mail.
It was around six to seven years ago when I last saw one of them.
Will always be better and more special than the streaming service! Long live Netflix DVD.
Been a member since 2009 so almost 10 years now. My first rental was Super Troopers, LOL!!
A former coworker introduced me to Netflix back around 2008; I’ve been a satisfied customer since. My fave thing is to build a nice “queue” and the ability to customize your movie selections on the website.
My history page still shows my first DVD (Tomb Raider) on 1/23/2002. I love Netflix DVDs and I hope it never goes away. Streaming services are fine for some things but I like having access to almost any DVD title in existence through one monthly subscription and I appreciate the higher quality that I get on BluRay vs. streaming services.
Thanks for the love! Wow, we shipped you Tomb Raider more than 16 years ago.... that's wild. But time flies when you're watching your way through a huge catalog of movies!
I started my subscription toward the end of 1998 with 3 DVD's at a time. Now that they have online streaming I signed up too and still kept the DVD plan but I reduced it to 2 DVD's plan. I have watched interesting movies from different countries around the world. And they were great.
Before all this, I had a membership with Blockbuster and closed it and signed up with you. I remember they did try to copy you but then they lost to the extent of closing the company for good. Too bad there's this hottie that works there at Blockbuster in my neighborhood. Oh well.
Thanks for the 20 years of entertainment and many more.
Don't really Remember when I started? Right from the Start 1998?? But when I went to visit My Daughters, Janette Hooper we would have a Netflix movie night! She got me started! My daughter also bought me a DVD Player, just so that I could get my Little Red envelope! I've had it since! It is a Great Pleasure to get My Movies! I have notice, getting my Movies quicker once you received my movies, returned!! I Love this and I hope they'll continue on with these Little Red Envelopes! Congratulations on a Great Job!! Happy Anniversary to yous All!!
Wow. I can honestly say I never noticed the different graphics on the envelope..... I was always more interested in opening it up as quick as possible!
First thing I signed up for when I started working back in 2004. I've come and gone a lot over the years but I'm glad this is still around...and even more excited for the 4K BDs to be added. I hope.
Anyone else remember the social networking they used to have on Netflix? Miss that!
Yes! That was one of my most favorite features of NF. It was great to see what my other cinephile friends were watching and reviewing. It was very sad when they turned that off.
What the video said is so true as I find I get happy when my red Netflix envelope is in the mail. And I find myself watching their stock even though I don't have shares and I cheer when it has gone up. I love Netflix and I tell everyone that!
Lol, that's so sweet, Diana. Thanks for your enthusiasm and love!
last year me and my grandma was going through my uncles stuff who sadly died in 2014 and we found the old netflix envelope with a blue ray in it for streaming service for the ps3 i never even knew at the time that netflix even had a dvd service until then because i was 13 (but i 14 now but who really cares)
I've been with them since the very beginning. Bought a new DVD player and in the box was advertisement from Netflix to rent their discs through the mail. They had offered their invitation to get 4 DVDS free through the mail as a token of appreciation for buying the DVD player.
Then of course you do it and say, "hey, that's pretty cool. So I signed up and have been a customer ever since. And yeah, I have the DVD holder they showed in the video and still use it to this day.
The turnaround took longer back in the day until the infamous "bar code". I believe every disc was being shipped to and from a California address. But then things seemed much faster where I think they had distribution centers in each state.
After all these years, I've only received 2 fractured discs.
Just went to my acct history and scrolled down to my first Netflix disc ever. Copied and pasted below. Notice that number 737. That is the accumulative number of DVDS I've received and returned from Netflix since being a member since the year 2000. Along with the receive and return dates and what I rated that movie.
Wow, 737....that's a lot of movies:). LOL
737 Final Destination rated 2.0 stars. 2.0. 10/12/00 10/23/00
Happy Anniversary Netflix!!!!
Lori A great story.
I remember when the instructions were wrong for which side was supposed to be up in the envelope. If you followed them, the bar code wasn't visible in the little window.
When you mail a Netflix DVD at the post office, is the return mailer considered stamped or metered mail?
I love Netflix. I have the DVD and streaming videos subscription!
Highly recommend this service. You won't be disappointed. Just get it! !
I believe you 😂
Still get my DVDs at the same fast rate as before. However, we have noticed that all our mail takes longer coming and going due to cut back in the postal service. Very, very interesting video. Would be lost without the DVD service.Actually cheaper than Redbox at the rate I watch and return movies. Plus, I get and return them without a trip in the car.
I have been a member for over 13 years I never got any bonus goodies like a disc holder. They should send out some 20th anniversary goodies to all the loyal customers
I love Netflix. always have and hopefully, always will! Thank You Netflix!!
First movie delivered to me, 05/14/2010, Daybreakers... well, at least the second one was good, The Hurt Locker. I still prefer blu-ray over streaming. The sound is so much better and picture still clearer. I'll keep getting them until they decide it costs to much to do so.
Eight years of being a member, good to hear from you, Bryan! We'd love to keep sending discs as long as we can; it's up to you guys to keep us in business, though. 🤣
What about the "Plastic Fantastic" original mailer with the glue on the sealing flap that would stick to ANYTHING!!! and EVERYTHING!!!!
Maybe it is just my slight OCD behavior but does anyone else always peel off the leftover strip from the end after opening the mailer? Oh and removes the other half of the circular seal? I even get happy when I can peel that strip off in one piece. LOL Please tell me I am not alone in this! 😁
I peel it off too! The sticky back probably sticks to,everything it touches, pissing mail PEOPLE off! You have to peel SUPER SLOW!
I bow down to Netflix! , the Jesus of dvd providers!!
It's great how something so small effects so many people. Very interesting story.
Some of the mailed letters or social media comments we get are really touching. It's amazing how the red envelope has become a part of people's lives.
I don't much care what's on the outside of the envelope, but I did prefer when the envelopes used to be made of light cardboard rather than paper. That was a long time back but it prevented cracked disks. I've had 3 cracked disks in the last few months.
So when you return a Netflix DVD, should the barcode show through the window? Will that check it in any faster?
I've never heard or read anywhere that the barcode should show through the window but it always made sense to me to have it in the window so I've always just put it in that way.
I wonder too. But I always do anyway because I have OCD :D
IF the barcode is showing, then the Post Office notifies Netflix that the movie is received and your next movie is quickly on its way. Otherwise, you have to wait until Netflix actually gets the red envelope. Hope this helps.
It's a little bit counterintuitive. You have to insert the DVD sleeve into the return envelope face down for the barcode to show through the window.
Geez... there's a hole in it, big enough for a barcode. How intuitive do you need it to be?
Expand available DVDs especially really old movies made before 1950s. They were excellent and never had to worry about
the objectional content of sex scenes and language.
I thought for years that Netflix ended this mail service to switch entirely to streaming services online, like what? The majority of current Netflix subscribers probably don’t even know anything about this. I assumed that the mail service became outdated and the demand was too high with too many new movies and customers. Lmfao, you don’t learn something that was really old is still new everyday.
Hmmm... not many views! 71 views by 3/31/18
