- In this video you'll learn from my mistakes. I messed up and got schooled by several foxes and am now having to make adjustments. I hope you learn a lot by watching the way these animals work the sets and are able to keep from making the same mistakes as me. Thanks for watching!!
Great video! Always put your bait, lures, scat, urine, whatever you want him to smell behind your trap. Make him cross over your trap to get a sniff. You're doing a great job. You'll have those fox in no time! Be sure to post your scouting cam video of catching them!
I always play the wind I learned that many years ago not to age myself but been trapping fox since 1978. It's no different than deer hunting or predator calling. They live and die by the wind. Keep up the good work.
nice job educational to everyone old and young
Young man you put out some great video content ! and every person wanting to get into trapping should watch your videos.Your explaining of how and why is on point,Great job keep the vids coming.
Agree on both tips.
The footage you get is priceless, saves so much time on the learning curve , These days because I trap the same area yr after yr , I almost always set 2 traps one offset to the right back 6 inches the other offset to the left back 18 inches .. keep at it Goodluck Out There BeSafe
Get some cotton under your pan and a lot less dirt on the trap. I want that pan almost level for foxes. They are so hard to catch. Use some natural feature or sticks in the road to guide them where you want them
Thanks for the great content!! My first 4 sets are out there right now.
Another great video to learn from. I agree with everything you said and the plan to adjust.
Great video, they maybe smelling the set?
Clint Locklear did a study and I think it was for both fox and coyotes. But he found that I think the number was close to 80% work a set from the right.
You explained it perfectly! Move the scat. That makes sense for them to sniff either scat or bait hole.
It looked like the fox was actually spooked at the set on the far right of the video
I just think he wasn’t fully committed bud. It’s easy to get hard on ourselves. The cameras they say humble ya like you wouldn’t believe. I love this style of video btw. Keep at it man your doing everything right.
Ya.. great breakdown,. Good ideas, & Adjustments..! You'll Get'em.. Tactacam reveal x pros for the Win!! 😊👍
Another great video! Very well explained! I totally agree with your points and decision to change scat placement! Thanks!!!
Another great instructional video !! 🤗
Another great video, I agree with the dirt hole angle helps a lot with how close they get. Best of luck with adjustments, I'm curious as well!
They just got lucky hoss 😂
The bait hole angle theory is spot on. The way that one pawed at the set looks to be almost exactly what the one I'm playing chess with at the moment did. I think you're right about the scat, and in all honesty nothing should be in front of the trap pan. Everything should be behind it. I remade my set this afternoon, now lets hope I don't lost a bishop tonight!
Well, did you checkmate that critter?
@@ferengiprofiteer9145 never did catch anything on that set that made me think it was the digger. It either got smart and completely quit me, or got ran over in the road lol. Not had any digging in a couple of weeks now
@@DarJenoutdoors I had a dirt hole in a stream bank get dug out twice. Pulled it. A few days later, directly across the culvert, I caught a possum in a tire set that had been there for 13 days. Had my cameras on deer duty but I think I nabbed the perp.
@@ferengiprofiteer9145 I've caught 3 coons in a set about 20 feet from the one that was getting dug out! I've got at least two more on camera but they aren't digging. Had one pull my sheep's wool during single digits and the trap just didn't fire
I totally agree with you buddy! The scat needs to get their focus on the hole! I hope it helps you and you get them my friend!
your spot on my friend. never put an attracting before the trap they will stop short every time and move on, at least that's been my experience trapping
Very informative video and a different mind set on how they look down the bait hole
Actually gives me some pretty good ideas cause I have had a bunch of coyotes this year walking by my sets and having foot prints around them but not close to the trap to where I would even think they stepped on the trap and felt it , I am using a 3” auger this year instead of my 2” and drilling them more at a 45 and I am thinking now that could be my problem
i agree completley with the adjustments i just had the same scenario this last week on the line, i was puttin so many sets in the ground that day i started accidentally making my bait holes at more of an easy angle for me drilling so quick really... rushing, catch rate was horrible on that first couple 2 or 3 checks and then i pulled the cards when i seen how they practically fully committed and io still didn't catch and it was the same 4 traps 3 days in a row i pulled moved 20 ft and re dug there hole at a more challenging angle for them to have to work a little longer and next check had 2 greys 30 ft from each other lol. i swear its fun to me to rewatch and learn from the cameras makes me a much smarter and more efficient trapper and helps the confidence too ! appreciate the videos bud!
I'm in sc caught my biggest red fox the other night using the same bait but hell fire and wind walker.
Great content once again! It would be nice if you could somehow highlight where your trap is in the video clips of the animals working your sets
Like you said. Once they got down wind, they came back and worked the set. In that particular situation, Id have set the trap on the left. I know you said you always set to the right but certain situations should be set to left. I think most animals lead with the right foot. Perhaps even putting straight in front of hole for that wind. Looked like the red put his right paw in front of the hole to dig with the left. Agreed on the steeper angle on hole tho
Great footage and video buddy. I agree with coyote wacker, if you have them two traps bedded like he said works great
Yep your right on the hole angle. You could see that gray lean forward look in the hole.
The only other thing that I noticed was they all sidestepped and even the last grey hopped it’s back legs over your dirt pattern.
This video helps me thnk you it's hard to out fox a Fox I'm the one who sent you the Bobcat pictures this morning
Thanks for the tips...I just missed a coyote the other morning for the same reason, I believe. I need a steeper angle on my bait holes.
Can't see the angle of the hole being the issue.
I don't think they didn't go for your bait because they didn't like its looks. It was dark.
I've caught with 2 traps within inches of each other when 1 wasn't working. ☝️
I'm a dirt hole fan but do you make any flat sets? Love your videos. Wind too which I know it changes constantly.
Yes I do! I love flat sets!
It looked like they approached from the left and worked the set without getting to the right of the holes.
Had a fox jump through a snare somehow
Definitely think he was committed but moving the bait hole to a different angle should get him !
Not to argue, but I think you're misreading about the angle of the dirt hole.
It's their nose that wasn't satisfied, not their eyes. Covered bait catches.
Also, near as I can tell, urine is urine. Coon, fox, coyote, cat, mine, or yourn(😊).
Oh by the way! Keep up the good work. Really like watching you do your stuff.
Yes sir! You have um figured out now. Those videos are very helpful. Thanks.
Change your dirt hole to 85 or 90 degrees it will up your catch
Has the Red Wolf made it to your area of NC?
Never seen one
How much does it costs to run the tactacam trail cam monthly?
IMHO trap placement should be downwind from the scat, in your video, trap slighly off center to left front of bait hole with scat on right so he comes upwind to hole crosses trap to get to scat.
I like this idea a lot. Thanks!
Do you ever post what you catch after your instructional video?
Yep! Just have to follow along with the videos to see them in action!
Put that poo behind the hole.entrance set your trap straight back in lowest spot offset or not I don't offset at all unless I have too for fox get ya a flat set edge of that rd with a shot of piss and pick em up
Looks like ya had a down hill grade. With them being set to the right, uphill side, the critter is going to use his down hill foot to brace while working hole with up hill side. Noticed this a while back and offset to down hill side and improved catches. Everything else you said is spot on. If you ever run them in midlands of SC let me know. Got plenty of land and need some help.
That actually makes so much sense!! I never would’ve thought of that, thank you!!
Use a dog on trap with no pan Tension might get them
Something about yor trap
Put some beaver castor in a punch hole next to your dirt hole
