8:55 - we actually have footage of all four episodes of the Myth Makers. Someone figured out that the clips had actually been misplaced and were actually from episode 3. Not to plug myself, but you can see the clips in question and where they should have gone in this video ua-cam.com/video/Duodb2WGKoA/v-deo.html from 14:14 - 15:14.

The Myth Makers in the complete story I wish most to be returned! Tragically, the filming schedule prevented William Hartnell from attending the funeral of his beloved Aunt. More than 40 years later and Voyage of the Damned is put on hold when David Tennant's mother passed away. How time have changed.

I quite like when you go off on detours to talk about stuff related to the missing episodes like behind-the-scenes happenings or occasionally giving an entire segment of background for things like the Telesnaps or, in this one, who did the recordings, how they did them, and how they came to be made available by the BBC.
It's all fascinating stuff, so keep it up. X3

Myth Makers is utterly spectacular, both the transmitted version and the novelised version which tells the tale in a very unique way (I particularly recommend the audiobook as it is by turns hilarious, sad, and exciting).
Also: Vicki, Maureen O'Brian, is one of the very best companions, l she worked really well with Peter Purves and William Hartnell, and a great actress to boot. Her Big Finish audios prove her absolute brilliance both as a character, a companion, and an actress - to think she was dropped so unceremoniously to be replaced ultimately by Dodo. Ugh.

Thank you so much Josh! I've found my DVD "extras" on your channel!! My current retirement hobby is encoding my own DVD collection of the entire Dr Who Classic series. I have just started on Season 3 of Will Hartnell era. I'm using Loose Cannon recons with the audio stripped out - and replacing it with the BBC audio releases with Peter Purves linking narrations, syncing in subtitles, == then under the Bonus Menu, throwing in CGI animations (crediting artists where known, like you and Ian), Loose Cannon bonuses, and any other bits'n'pieces like these "Extras" of yours to fill up the DVD space :-)
My guess is that the BBC wont put out much more for the William Hartnell years, they seem to be more interested in Pat Troughton - but if they do, I can just swap out my home-made DVDs :-)
If I was to vote, I would probably ask for Myth-Makers by a smidgin - it wasnt until I was painstakingly syncing up new audio track and the subtitles, that I realised just how hilariously "camped" up it was. What a hoot! eg.. Homer just made up the horse story for "dramatic effect" in the Illiad ?? LOLOL and the scene with the Doctor explaining flying machines ot the Greeks? ...classic British absurdist humour - I can see where the Monty Python team got their ideas....
And I certainly liked Vicki, she should never have been sacked.
Mission should be released along with a complete Dalek's Master Plan, for which I noticed was never broadcast outside of the UK - it was considered "too violent" for children - and I must admit, it is gruesome in places - 3 companions (sort-of) all arrive and then die horribly within a few episodes... not counting all the deaths of other bystanders and walk-on characters... and that final scene of solemn Pryhhic victory with Steven mourning for Katarina! Bret! Sara! - yeah we won against the Daleks, but look how many and how much we lost? Sheesh... Not exactly a *happy ending* and as for "Too violent"? Yeah - perhaps it was - but I guess British kids of the 1960s were made of much sterner stuff?!!?? the kids of the parents who lived through the Blitz etc.

Fate of the Prints for Singapore
For the Hartnell stories, the majority of Singapore's prints were bicycled to Hong Kong with several possibly going to New Zealand. (See Bicycling Chains.)
Marco Polo and five from season two were likely sent to New Zealand.
The final fate of the season three serials - apart from one (see below) - is unknown. They were returned to the BBC or destroyed.
Some time after its 1972 screening, the four episodes of The War Machines (that had been originally dispatched to Singapore by the NZBC) were sent to MidWest station in Nigeria that had purchased the serial in July 1973. The four films (still exhibiting the censor edits made in New Zealand) were subsequently found in Nigeria and returned to the BBC in 1984.
The season four Troughtons and the last three serials of season six went to Hong Kong.
Singapore sent the film prints of The Enemy of the World and The Web of Fear (and presumably also The Abominable Snowmen and The Wheel in Space) to Benue Plateau TV in Nigeria by the end of 1974.
The Dominators and The Krotons were also sent to Nigeria, but to a different station.
The remaining season five and six serials (The Ice Warriors, Fury from the Deep, The Mind Robber and The Invasion) were all likely returned to the BBC. (It's possible that the four prints of The Ice Warriors and the empty can for Fury from the Deep part 6 found in 1988 were from Singapore.)

Another excellent documentary! Interesting revelations about the cast's views on Galaxy 4; I think the story has great merit as it presents two important ideas that Doctor Who does well: 1) challenging societies like the Drahvins', which undervalue some people and seek to dehumanize them 2) warning us of the danger of judging others solely on appearance or some quality of their personhood. The Thirteenth Doctor story Rosa tackled these ideas about prejudice and oppression in a powerful way.

    Tough question.
I'm going to stand up for Galaxy Four. Part 3 showed that Derek Martinus did a great job on the direction, the leads give spirited performances (despite complaints) and it's just good simple fun.
Mission to the Unknown (i believe production wise it was counted as part 5 of Galaxy Four), without the TARDIS crew it doesn't really hold much interest for me.
My vote goes for The Myth Makers though as it's just such a funny script and Hartnell is hilarious (always brilliant in the historical and comedy episodes). And it's got a wonderfully bleak final part. Donald Cotton gives some great lines:
PARIS: I'm treated with more respect by the enemy than I am by my own family.
CASSANDRA: They don't know you as well as we do.😂
    Cassandra: Woe to Troy!
Paris: It's too late to say 'woe' to the horse.

These are amazing, Josh! If these aren't on the Blu-ray box sets for Hartnell and Troughton then I'm writing a long, angry, threatening letter of complaint.

I'd pick The Myth Makers. I haven't mastered watching the reconstructions, and I struggle to visualise the 60s historicals to boot. Besides, I'm happy with the very nice Uni of Central Lancaster remake of MTTU, and I feel Galaxy 4's set design is just plain naff - even by 60s Dr Who standards.

Such a great video but it's pretty frustrating the past BBC aren't accepting fans' audio recordings of the missing episodes! Hmmm, I would like to see Mission to the Unknown, because it's the first episode without the TARDIS team! I just wanted to say thank you for putting the English subtitles on your series as I'm deaf and it really helps me to understand your videos clearly. Is there a possible chance if you could caption your own wonderful recons? If it's not too big of a trouble! Great job, Josh. Bill would be proud.

I still have memories of watching Dr Who in the 1960s and early 1970s as a kid. They were scary to me at the beginning. I still recall Hartnell and his niece having to climb down the side of a tower with big fat round type daleks, I think squirting acid or some such. That would have been around 1967/8 in Australia, and I would have been 9/10 - so don't trust my Image memory. lol But can say I have watched just about every Dr Who episode from the very start as they happened. But not any more of course. They ruined it now. We didn't get a color TV until 1974/5

3:52 If his TV had an earphone jack (as many portables did during the 1960s), it wouldn't necessarily have been an "ingenius method" to run a line from his TV to his recorder's input jack. I just wonder why he did it.

You should probably mention the currently-in-production not-for-profit shot-for-shot remake of “Mission” being developed by some group or other, there was lots of talk of it of late. Apparently they got Briggs for the Dalek voices.

Galaxy 4 all 4 part restoration is on the Atzecs Special Edition DVD Disc 2 Part 2 Trap of Steel included but not Titled Part 1 ends where a Chumbly tries to blow up the Tardis and Part 2 begins.
I think that the Early Dr Who episode are not missing but mixed up with other Doctor Who stories.
In the Aztecs Special Edition in Restoring Atzecs Video includes two Scenes one scene includes a Scene with John Pertwee and the other scene includes Patrick Troughton nothing to do with Aztecs.

Snuffleupagus I’m not allowed to, due to them being technically violating copyright. The BBC love taking down videos with their material in it, and I can’t take the risk. Sorry!

Josh you mentioned elsewhere that the omnirumour is a video for another day. Do you think you will in fact ever cover this topic, which personally I find absolutely fascinating, and also give your views on it - with particular reference to whether you believe there was any basis to the claims that Morris basically found them all? I was very active on the forums at the time and the whole thing just exploded, as you'd probably remember. Cheers Josh.
