Thanks for watching!
It's amazing that the audio even survived.
I watched the recent animated version of the Power of the Daleks but was disappointed that the scariest scene was omitted. That's the one where the Doctor and companions lay amongst the dead bodies, pretending to be dead in the corridor, while a dalek inspected the bodies looking for life. You can see where the scene was supposed to be. It scared me to death as a kid, so you can imagine my dismay at its omission.
Was this scene ever properly released? I’m gonna feel like a fool if it’s on the DVD.
@@DanTheMan2150AD Not on the DVD either.
cheapskate. as a kid you should have taped it by borrowing someone's 8mm camera.
What are you talking about? I can't find any source on this scene being cut anywhere
I’d like to see the Underwater Menace get a special edition rerelease with actual animation
Ryan Spees hopefully one day!
I do too.
Well it got it!!!
The BBC: 'The Underwater Menace,' reconstruction, is crap. I remember when I was reviewing this story, 'Paul Richards,' told me in the comments, about the BBC's odd behavior, not taking a higher quality reconstruction, at no higher cost.
Loose Cannon's was MUCH better..
NOTHING IN THE WORLD CAN STOP ME NOW
LOL, I can imagine Donald Trump saying just that.
Nothing in za vorld can stop me now! ;)
Nathin in zaa vuhrld ken stop mee now
BANG BANG BANG!!!
That's what film collectors say when they destroy Doctor Who tapes and fans don't know not even Phil Morris.
It would be nice to get an animation of The Highlanders
me to
@@Jasonk123 *That doesn't make sense*
@@MrValeska i mean by that like i also want the highlanders animated
@@MrValeska sorry
@@Jasonk123 *nah it's alright mate I was only joking*
I'm still annoyed af at how we never got a proper animation for Underwater Menace. Although it isn't the best Troughton story out there is would've been nice to see it animated. And by Planet 55, who have done the best animation for the lost episodes.
Planet 55's animation is garbage. If it were done by BBC studios with existing episodes animated, I'd be okay with it, but it'd still be a strange choice given it's only half missing.
I hope either the power of the Daleks or the highlanders are found someday because they’re heavily important stories
This has been a wonderful series of mini-documentaries. Personally, I would love to see Marco Polo appear out of the mists of time, along with the Celestial Toymaker, Power and Evil and especially, Fury From the Deep, which is so gripping just as an audio adventure. Finally, there is The Massacre, for Hartnell's double act and because it features Andre Morell, one of the finest actors of his era as Marshal Tavannes. Honestly, the more stories with the Doctor and Jamie, the better. They've always been my favourite pairing. Thanks for posting.
I'm a simple gal- I see a new entry in the Missing Episodes series, I click.
Doctor Bag PhD 😍😍😍
Same.
4:40 Aw I was looking forward to this story. Damn it.
2:10 That's a *very* futuristic t-shirt font for 1966. :O
Christopher U.S. Smith they use a similar font in War Machines!
@@JoshSnares Indeed!
I notice Troughton had a plaster on his finger in some of those pictures?
Also, I cannot... CANNOT take my eyes off of Michael Craze.
George Reid you and me both 😩❤️
You should see him in his skimpy suit when he was in an Aladdin panto.
@@bluebertrand7113 I remember someone posting that a few months back and I nearly fell off of my desk chair. Jesus CHRIST on a burning tricycle he was a beautiful human being.
He was dam good looking, wasnt he!
Sad he died young, I wonder what he'd look like now.
Well the last part of Power pf the daleks was record on 35mm and its fate is currently unknown(mostly junk)
P.S is off air recording consider a surviving clip
The Captain off air recordings are made via a camera pointing at a screen, whereas surviving clips are usually the original source, or copies of original source :)
@@JoshSnares so when the episode has missing and the censor clip was found thats make it have a surviving clip
Wow, Peter Perves. This is just a brilliant series! Will you be covering the missing colour episodes as well?
Yeah, that would be interesting to see how you cover the missing colour tapes.
It’s on my list further down the track :)
I didn't think there were any. I know for a fact I've seen every post-Troughton story, all in colour.
@@LaytonMathieson Like The Mind of Evil (Although that was colourised and chroma dot recovered in 2013), and Invasion of the Dinosaurs.
@@HarryRobins The Silurians, Inferno, Ambassadors of Death, Terror of the Autons, The Daemons...
Power, which is so doubtful, but The Highlanders would also be cool
I don’t understand why people want a McGann 8th Doctor animated series when you look at how the bbc treats the classic who animations
Another excellent video Josh! I'ts such a shame what happened with the Underwater Menace DVD, I don't understand why a better recon wasn't commissioned! Frustrating that it doesn't even incorporate proper titles or the few existing clips. Ridiculous!
Nice to see Peter Purves contribute to this series, poor old William Emms though.
Absolutely loving these! Top quality and well made. Best Doctor Who docs I've seen in ages!
The BBC does restore recovered and returned 16mm prints in HD, as a way of ensuring the best picture quality possible. I have the later blu-ray of Power of the Daleks (2020) and the telesnap reconstruction and the special features like old documentaries and surviving footage are referred to as having been restored to the best level of quality deemed possible (but asks you to bare with inconsistent quality that couldn’t be avoided).
A few comments on the first (excellent) five parts of Josh Snares's "Doctor Who - The Missing Episodes" UA-cam documentary series. All reviews are subjective, I know :-) The balance between pace and content is quite simply amazing. I often look at a duration of more than seven minutes on a UA-cam video and fear it will be a "100% to camera" commentary piece. Mr Snares crams more into thirty seconds than the majority of individual commentators do in 12+ minutes, let alone the pop culture sites who don't use vision in conjunction with comment nearly as well as they should given their huge followings. But this work is not comment. It is documentary. The dynamic presentation is underpinned by a depth of research that sets it above. In the era of opinion over fact it is so (bloody) refreshing to enjoy concise, researched, well presented historical information. Even the side moments to explain an overall context are kept to a minimum; yet all seem vital and are genuinely interesting and relevant. No over indulgence. Above all, while being informative, it is entertaining. This is a great series for Doctor Who fans. I am loathe to make any negative comments, so I won't. They'd just be nipping at the edges; Mr Snares will be intelligent enough to already know where the minor improvements might lie. And they are minimal. Well done Josh Snares. Factual, concise, superbly produced, entertaining and frankly can't wait for more. Great series. I hope the ABC, BBC or someone beckons you as your career explodes. :-)
Craig Wellington um you’re amazing, thank you once again for your always lovely comments, Craig xx
@@JoshSnares Can't wait to view more. :-)
Great series...look forward to each episode. I'd love to see the Highlander completed.
The Highlanders is one i really want to see whether that be found or by animation... Jamie is my favorite companion! More Jamie is always good in my books :D Again a fantastic episode the BBC should give you a DVD Special Feature on a future DVD!
Another excellent documentary. The Highlanders was shown in Uganda in 1968, although it may have been sent there by Zambia.
Has anybody looked into where the copy went after broadcast?
I'd quite like to see The Highlanders returned in whole or in part. We really know nothing of this story other then the audios. Which are certainly nice to have.
I would love to have The Highlanders as it gave us one of the longest and most iconic Doctor Who companions; Jamie.
Would love you to do a full episode on telerecording and the way Doctor Who was recorded and distributed in the 60's!
Will you ever do a reconstruction of Underwater Menace part 4? Your recon of episode 1 was brilliant and the official recon leaves a lot to be desired.
We are not ready yet, To teach these human beings the law of THE DALEKS!
I thank the late Innes Lloyd for having Jamie in the Tardis crew, Plus he’s one of my favourite companions in the classic series.
Lovely to see this new part has just been uploaded - it's quickly becoming a highlight of the week!
mondomark 😍😍
Phillip Morris needs to have a quest in Singapore
Shroedinger's Singapore: until Phillip Morris goes there the episodes both exist and don't exist. :)
Love the professional qualities of your missing episode series. These videos are so well polished.
Keep up up the good work Josh!!
I would love to see return Power
Cause of troughton
I'd like to see those shirts, Ben and Polly were wearing, at 2:06! I guess, only time travel can allow us, to see that! :)
@@carealoo744 Apparently, Pat Troughton did not see the joke in those shirts, and was quite offended! ;)
@@carealoo744 they wore those shirts in rehearsals, I doubt production would allow them to wear those shirts, might break kayfabe a bit.
I'd love to see Power of the Daleks returned, but unfortunately, this will probably never happen.
It is a shame that something as important as Troughton's debut wasn't treated with more care. I guess at the time of the junkings it was probably just seen as "another Dalek serial", certainly that would explain how The Daleks was nearly lost forever in 1978.
@@robalexander8065 The Daleks was probably almost lost because each episode had an individual title during the first three seasons like the first episode is titled "The Dead Planet".
Wicked episode again! I would love THE HIGHLANDERS to return even though I like POTD this is a gem!!
yeah was real pissed when the underwater menace wasn't animated. . .didn't realize that until after I had bought it. . .
Even though we now have a wonderfully animated reconstruction, I would still like to have The Power of the Daleks returned most. It's such a great story and Patricak Troughton's first one. Followed then by The Underwater Menace since we never got a "proper" reconstruction of that story. The DVD reconstruction sucked. And say what you will about that story, but I really quite enjoyed it. I would also love The Highlanders returned because I've always loved that story and its also Jamie's first story as well. But out of the three, it's last on the list.
Thanks Josh for these excellent documentaries. Hopefully one day you will have to reedit them if and when any missing episodes are returned. Actually I would like to take this opportunity to ask if there is any chance of you doing more recons? Even though Loose Canon have done wonderful work, I really enjoyed your 'Dalek Master plan" and 'The Abominable Snowmen'.
You've done it again. This is so well done and very interesting and I so much would love to have back the classic The Power of the Daleks. Oh.... if only!
The BBC need to go back an rerelease Underwater menus with that animation, why they thought that was worth charging 15 more ponds for something that unfinished is beyond me. Also I find the underwater menus such a fun run-around story it's a shame that it was such a underwhelming DVD.
much more interesting than I thought it would be. Good work.
*Drinking game while watching this excellent Dr Who missing Episodes doc?* Drink every time its stated that; Graham Strong has the highest audio recordings on record (with 3 shots of vodka, 2 whiskey's glasses and a Irish cream bottle) multiply accordingly during each video segment. And wish your liver and kidney's good luck!
😂😂😂
I absolutely love this run of stories. Season 4 is probably my favourite season. I love the TARDIS crew and it all just has such a wonderful saturday afternoon adventure series quality to it.
The obvious choice is The Power of the Daleks. I didn't really care for the animation (they generally don't do anything for me). Troughton is brilliant instantly and i love how difficult the Doctor is being and Ben & Polly work well at representing both views of him. The Daleks are so well characterised and all the guest cast are interesting and enjoyable.
Yet The Highlanders is a good romp. I like to think of it as the 2nd Doctor's regeneration crisis story as he is sooo unpredictable throughout, you never really know what he is up to and he's so unreassuring. Ben and Polly both get a good wad of the action. Yeah, it's good fun.:)
The Underwater Menace - I have nothing but love for it. It's a good old mad romp. It's never boring. I've be more than happy for the remaining episodes to turn up! (getting more scenes of Troughton and his crew in the TARDIS).
A big frustration is that there is no decent footage of Troughton is his original costume!
What’s wrong with the animations‽
I always look forward to these! Great work, fellow Australian!
Great to see another great video.
The last historical, The Highlanders. But if Power Of The Daleks hadn't been animated it would won out.
the power of the teapots lol
Really enjoying your stylish, well-researched series.
Thurdays are the best days, new video by you and Music class
Power of the darleks
This is a great series. Thanks.
I love this series
Ok these are the stories I can’t choose between and same with the next batch
All stories between Tenth and Faceless I’d like back equally. Great stories Ben and Polly are my 3rd/4th favourite companions after Ace and Leela
Underwater right is a extremely underrated and visual story and I love anything to do with Atlantis
Another brilliant video. Loving these.
Great video
The Power of the Daleks visited New Zealand before it went to Singapore. If a print is ever found from there, episode six will have footage missing due to NZ censors. There were cuts made to episode five but the existing sequence from Wicker's World should cover this.
would love to see highlanders back, pure historicals are seriously underrated
i need to see the highlanders found of animated
Great stuff. Need more!!
The Highlanders, definitely. I need to see Jamie’s first story.
It’s a complete “wtf” head slap every time I think about how BAD the official dvd reconstruction is for Underwater Menace. Just amazingly stupid on the BBC’s part. I’m really glad you pointed this out in your presentation, because I think someone watching that release cold with no idea what’s going on would be completely put off recons for life if they (understandably) assumed every recon effort was like that.
Being back Bill Hartnell
Alright! Next time we get "The Faceless Ones!"
I really want The Highlanders, Jamie is such a great companion.
I love your work.
Great work 👍🏽
Oh The Highlanders O the Highlanders I want to see The Doctor Polly and Ben meet Jamie
I saw the Power of the Daleks animation, I kept thinking to myself "This looks like Archer"
Classic BBC- they even managed to lose the first audio reconstruction of Power of the Daleks
New Zealand sent their copy of Power to Singapore. Forgot to add th at
I want the Highlanders back of these three. The animated version of Power of the Daleks is a fair substitute for the time being - though I insist upon watching the black and white version - and while I'm disappointed in the telesnap reconstructions for The Underwater Menace, I'll take what I can get. That being said, I wish the reconstruction had included the surviving footage for the fourth episode. They had it - why not use it?
Anyway, you got Peter Purves' attention! This is awesome!
EchoWing there's a colour version of power of the daleks? What abomination thought that was a good idea?
@@lewisconroy6225 I don't know, but I'm quietly hoping that the animated version of The Macra Terror will also have a black and white version, and not just be in color.
would love to have The Power of the Daleks back in its original form, also The Highlanders (Jamie's first story) and i didnt mind The Underwater Menace story but the Dvd release was so dam bad would be cool if these episodes turned up as well.
Fair warning, Josh Snares, I now have an enormous crush on you. :P Between your accent, your passion for Whovian archaeology and your PRODIGOUS video output...
You're officially wanted for stealing my hearts. ;)
One of those sensored clips from the Highlanders is a moment when Jamie, the Doctor, Ben, and Polly, are about to be hung as traitors, but an Englishman stops them from being killed. At least, I believe so. That's why it was sensored. It didn't even show it though. It was that clip where you can see they get up on the platform, while they're all tied up.
I can't choose between Highlanders and Power of the Daleks. I'd like desperately to see both.
I would like to see the underwater menace. And now we have to raid Hong Kong
"Will Hong Kong become the new Singapore?
Find out next week on: Doctor Who!"
Spoiler: It does.
Singapore and Hong Kong usually shared their prints :)
Don’t mind me everyone in doing some international travel! Where exactly? Oh just visiting Singapore, Ethiopia and Hong Kong. Why?...........no reason
I agree that The Underwater Menace Ep 1 & 4 should have been animated.
Travel faster than radio, get in front of the signal from the time it was broadcast, receive it, record it, have all the Dr Who lost episodes you want.
Kcuhc might be a bit expensive 😂😂
@@JoshSnares So asking the BBC to finance it is out then.
Kcuhc probably 😂
I can't wait until they animate The Highlanders
The highlanders is my favorite historical and power of the daleks is very it’s in my top 5 with the highlanders
At this point, I feel the Highlanders would be the best to recover. While power would be -the- best, the animation did a fair job in bringing it to us that I feel it's complete enough for now. Jamie's introduction would just be an excellent boon overall now in light of that.
Being Scottish I HAVE to vote for The Highlanders
I can’t even watched the animation of Power of the Daleks but hey at least I know which order 2s dalek stories go in.
thank god for animation
This series alongside the era's analysis videos by Clever Dick Films are my two favorites fan made doctor who documentaries! If i could choose, i think it will have to be The Highlanders especially because of Jaime. By the way, where did you get the background musics? I've been looking for them for a while now...
Music is licensed from Artlist!
First Time I've Been Watching A Video On The Day Of Release.
Josh Actually Hearted It?! OH MY GOD
This is a bit of a weird question but what sources did you use for the information on Telerecordings? I'm researching some stuff for uni and do want to try and fit a bit about the Old doctor who methods in :)
I found the telesnap info in the magazine 'Nothing At The End of the Lane' - Issue #2
It's a brilliant resource, I definitely recommend it if you're into facts and stuff
@@JoshSnares Cheers! I'll take a look into it
Where did you get these colour pictures? One time, I saw a colour picture of the first tardis set, it had an amazing resolution for it's time
The Underwater Menace, since we have 2 complete episodes already. I'd just want the Highlanders to be animated.
And UM was shown in Uganda and likely then passed to Zambia
I have the audio cd for power of daleks and the dvd for it also
I would like to see the power of the daleks the most out of the three
What a brilliant and deserving series this has been. Needs more views, but quality over quantity, eh? Lovely to see Peter Purves. Personally Power vs Highlanders is tough, but I can’t vote for less Jamie.
Again Underwater Menace was shown in Singapore and shared with HK.
sean martindill my maps show their final documented resting place, not every place it was shown!
If I did every place each copy went, we’d be here all day! 😂
I got a little bit confused, when you mentioned: 'The Macra Terror,' last time, as it was going to be talked about, here. May I ask what that was all about?
carealoo744 got the order wrong, that’s next week!
Oh, Okay! Lol! :)
Although I would love to see power of the Daleks back I sadly think this one was destroyed
Either Power or Highlanders would be my pick. If I had to choose, getting the Highlanders back would be my priority between the two. I would just get Power back so we don't have to deal with that weird animated one.
Can anyone explain why Web of Fear & Wheel in Space doesn't appear on any archived version of the Loose Cannon website? I can find Web (LC35) on another website but unsure how they obtained it. It must have been released in 2012-2013 judging by the '35'. With Wheel, it's on their Dailymotion as LC34 but not sure what year and why they never reconstructed it back when they had their website up. Does anyone have any insight into this?
I think after a while they stopped updating their website, around the 2012-13 mark, which is sad. I loved their behind the scenes information. Similar to how they released The Massacre recon in 2015 without any website information.
Oh okay, did they just put it straight on to Dailymotion?
Some Random UA-camr they sure did!
There must be some were in the world
I still haven’t seen the animation of Power of the Daleks
You’re missing a treat Iain
will this also be about recovered episodes or currently missing episodes?
