The parts when the machines will repeat "this cannot continue" and then that phrase blends into an alternative form of the main boss fight theme, its fantastic. The soundtracks work in this game is astounding.

@Chihaya Furu after watching Kyle McCarley and Kira Buckland (the English voices of 9S and 2B) stream the game, and then go on to do their own unofficial reading of the concert dialogue so people could hear it with the English voices, you couldn’t be more wrong (at least in this case). You can tell just by watching them play that they really care about their characters.

I remember with Nier, they didn't make it obvious that the Shades were Human. But here, we are at the 3rd boss and I got the feeling the machines were more than just machines at boss number 2.

Yep, but in Nier Automata, the "big spoiler" wasnt the fact that Machines had emotions, it was the fact that YoRHa androids was created with Machine core-s. So it doesnt really bother me.

haven't played the game but that silhouette picture upon death which my intuition tells me is a memory of the boss and it tells a very human story. A maiden being courted by a young fellow, she will do anything to look her best for the next time that fellow comes around.

This boss scared me not in those jumpscarey gruesome way, but psychologically. The desperate desire to become beautiful, and that haunting operatic music. It is simply BEAUTIFUL!

Lol Honestly, this game is just way better when played on Hard difficulty. Feels good being punished for minute mistakes and stealing a win after going through hell.

Playing atm, first playthrough on hard, 9h of gameplay spent solely on trying to beat the first goliath part. Was so painful but so worth when i managed to finaly kill it and get to save the damn game.

I hate hard modes that take away mechanics, I don't like the feeling of having a hand tied behind my back.
I love that intro scream with the music slamming into full gear to accompany it, it freaked me out in the best way!

Umm...I think what Mike Chang means is that if you think about it, the androids are practically crucified. This game had a lot of biblical references in it. There are even two main antagonist characters respectively called Adam and Eve and the lore of the game itself explores the concept of a "higher being".

I recently bought this game and I must say, this is a true masterpiece. Just the intro was awesome, but I got past this boss and into the next region. The changing gameplay, the hacking scenes, it's just.. SO addictive. I've been up ever since getting it, falling asleep at my desk (or literally falling over, as I play my PS4 from my PC desk chair)... My controller fell a couple times as I had to break my fall from tiredness lol. I started over once when I was in the Desert, because I wanted to get my full equipment & especially the auto-use chip back from my tutorial. I haven't died once yet so far on hard (I've played all DS games and am also playing Bloodborne atm). These are some of the best games ever made for the PS4. I am LOVING the story so far on NieR: AutomatA. How does NieR: Replicant compair to AutomatA? I feel like I've rediscovered the joy in gaming... Nothing made me feel this good except for BB & RDR2. Oh, and of course, the DS series. Titanfall 2 had an awesome campaign & multiplayer too, I'm really sad about the state of the servers atm... I'll stop typing now.
TL;DR: This is one of best games I've ever played and it has me addicted.
haven't finished replicant but its gameplay was quite hard to adjust to after automata; still, it's definitely worth it to play if you really enjoyed automata for the lore, experience and story! i hope you enjoy it as much as you did this one since i've heard from hardcore nier fans that replicant was brilliant 🥰
Throwing me back to my initial anticipation and hype when the E3 boss fight was shown I was actually crying fighting this boss. Not just the music itself made me, but how much more they made out of the boss fight that appeared to be pretty simple (but still nice looking) back in 2016.
The implementation of the synced bell tolls and the hacking mini game as well as the 8-bit music theme just made me quiver with joy and excitement. Not even mentioning the ambiguousness with Simone's phrases and the still frame after she died. I wanted to know more, now!
I didn't have this much fun with video games in ages since Bloodborne, and NieR:Automata made me realize why I love video games.
And I can't thank Yoko Taro enough for this masterpiece.

Hands down, one of the best boss fights ever in a game and I've played FFVII, X, XV, Sekiro and so on.
Everything is so perfect and so fitting: the setup, the challenge, the variety, the ramping up in difficulty, the plot twist when the curtains come down and of course: the music!
Not to mention that this boss fight gives a valuable and interesting insight into the robots' "minds" and how they're not exactly black and white.

her laugh was so sinister and taunting it made me want to continue fighting even though i felt like giving up
i think the character boss itself quite had a sad story based on the dialogue.. someone who was ridden in insecurity that they felt “beauty” was their only escape out of it and their entrance into love
I suddenly noticed something interesting (long comment)
As 2B the boss’s name on the health bar is in angelic. Or simply, some cryptic language the androids dosent understand
(We know this from the resource recovery units from later in the game)
Likely the cryptic language we hear in the music of the game.
Since 2B’s main objective is to stop this machine and nothing else, it means mothing to her, and to us the players, it remains untranslated.
BUT
as 9S, the boss’s names are displayed in english, or at least something the androids would understand.
Given 9S is a made for recon, it’s his job to find answers, and study the situation first before heading into battle.
So in 9S’s perspective, all of the boss’s names are translated. We know “engels” is the oil rig boss, and “simone” the friendzoned opera singer.
This probably would explain some random cutscenes displayed in comic strip styles while 9S narrates the story.
He see’s into the machine boss’s memories and their stories.
As 9S we see these machines as more than just the enemies of androids.
9S for scanner? more like: SUFFERING!!! Knowing we killed some innocent androids who had hopes!!!

2b's sprinting animation and movements are the things that make me captivated. seriously, she looks like a real professional assassin. it looks so efficient! and that short hair looks perfect on her.

Ilona i know for one that 2b's sole purpose is to assasinate 9s or just to supervise 9s's actions. Her real name isn't 2b either.
But the dev sure knows what kind of character 2b is and their creation is on point.

Well that was me 3 day ago (I was level 9 but feel the same)
Fast fact: Simone was the name of a French philosopher, who had a long-term open relationship with another philosopher named Jean-Paul. Both were accused of grooming and abusing minor female students, what made Simone lose her license as a teacher. That is why the machine on the game "grooms" other androids in order to call Jean-Paul's attention, what is something that the real Simone has also done. It took me some time to catch that detail.
Holy hell is that for real. I’ve played this game 15 times and I’ve never knew that.
the bosses in this game remind me a lot of kingdom hearts, in the sense that it's a lot of dodging and waiting for an opening.

NOTE: The opera boss tore the skin off of every android in that theater... and ate it... then proceeded to hack, then hijack the minds and bodies of the androids to use as slaves before (or possibly after) FUCKING CRUCIFYING THEM.

Just bought Automata today and I fought this boss.
Came here to check how long does it take to defeat the boss cause it took me like 15-20 mins with 1 deaths and a lot of heals and hacking. Lmao!

They're most likely the NPCs from the first Nier turned into this because they did not become Host to the "Humans" who were revealed to be the Shades. Seems once we enter New game+ Mode we will be getting more links into the first game and learn the fate of the NPCs from the first game as well.
kronic 666 would be pretty similar to the first NieR then.
I suspected the same thing when I first started playing. I was like "Okay how bad am I going to feel after I finish this game?".
without going into spoilers, suffice to say that's not true. TBH there very few references to original NieR, other than Emil, some Project Gestalt documents and some minor EEs like Accord.
New game + doesn't even feel like NG+ in this game either. Completed side quests remain complete so that reduces the grind on 2nd playthrough and the because 9S controls and fights completely differently than 2B it feels very fresh, like continuing the story rather than repeating it, and then there is the third which is completely new part of the story continuing AFTER the endings of 1st and 2nd playthrough.
It is also not a story of sad deceptions and just general gut punches like original NieR, but rather about the futility of the struggle against a bigger scheme and perpetuating lies.
*BIG SPOILERS*
Humans are not on the moon. They have been extinct for a long time, even before the aliens came to Earth (yes it actually is genuine aliens from Mars) which have also been dead for the longest time - killed by their self-evolving weapons, the Machine Lifeforms.
Ironically YoRHa is indeed there 'For The Glory Of Mankind', for humanity that doesn't exist anymore. They exist to perpetuate a lie, that all the androids on Earth are fighting for their human creators on the moon, to create gods worth dying for in a war against an enemy that also no longer even exists. Its all a meaningless proxy war and a pointless struggle between Machines and Androids to annihilate each other.
The best part is, even YoRHa aren't aware of it, with the exception of Commander and possibly the Operators. YoRHa was rigged to fail from the start in a spectacular way, sabotaged from the beginning with a back door to make sure its wiped out after a certain amount of time. It only existed to make sure a false memory of humanity surviving on the moon would remain after YoRHa is gone so that the war can continue for eternity in the name of a lie.
*SPOILERS END*

God the way the bells ring as she attacks and it syncs with the music, its so good. I had to pause the game and stare in awe of how good this fight was.

This game is sorta new to me and I almost started giving up on it as I was playing through it...😑...UNTIL!!! This boss came in with the mostly godly of boss music and then I thought, well shit I could go a couple more rounds of this with these bosses.

I just bought the game (PC version with no xbox nor a ps4 controller), and damn! I thought this game was going to be easy even at hard difficulty. well, I though wrong :< its harder than dark souls 3 due to the really big mobs and the enemies rarely stagger once they start swinging their arms and you lose chips and experience points like souls but at least you can evade and pick them up in the air but still hard and challenging. really enjoying it ^_^

As much as I love this game, it's a shame that the best boss fight in the game is this early on.
