Yes I almost quit when this happened. This boss isn't too hard on the second try once you've understood how to dodge its attacks but not putting an auto-save point just before the fight is BS game design.

The fact that Engels spews out steam and fire from his body really made me think of the Colossal Titan. But machines are next level, look at the aquatic machine from the flooded city
litle girl gets crushed by giant saw-equiped machinery that wheights at least 50 tons multiple times. Just stands up, not even the clothes where harmed.
Platinum always know how to make a first impression. Reminds me of how the first boss in Metal Gear Rising was Metal Gear RAY; the final fucking boss of MGS2. (Not counting Solidus)
This boss fight sets up the rest of the game so well in regards to boss fights. In the way they use it to tell a story, to test if you have the corrects skills in dodging and attacking on both the ground and in the air, and what kind of things you are fighting against

Can you tell me how you can which way to move in order to avoid the saws for when you start the fight in flight suit? Im playing hard mode and its an insta kill and having to repeat the same mission 1000x is annoying but I refuse to go down on difficulty.
Either that or an optional boss, as Nier Automata has side-questing similar to (al be it less generic i imagine) the original nier having side-quests. Might even do like Nier and have a huge chunk of optional story and character interaction through said quests.
Music and scenario more than make up for it though. Besides this is the tutorial it's supposed to be easy. And it'd be super weird to see Engels swinging his arms around at lightning speed.

I've been running the nier raid in ffxiv quite a lot and I can confirm you : even humans have great difficulties dodging telegraphed attacks.

Apparently you have to avoid it by going inside and not out
stay between the arms and dodge shortly before impact, timing it Juuuuust right makes you invulnerable.

Having played this fight, it definitely feels like a first boss. The saws are incredibly easy to evade , and the second phase is even easier to dodge.
