Just realised that Ariandel only reacted after you "killed" Friede because Friede told him to cover his eyes. He didn't see you fight Friede and, since there was no sound of fighting anymore, started peeking hoping that she had won only to see her dying on the floor. That's why he didn't intervene sooner.
@arfi juliansyah this makes me so sad, i haven’t played this dlc but ariandel seems so far gone and him realizing friede is dead really breaks my heart
Yeah if you turn around and watch him during the first phase against Sister Friede, he always has his face covered by his hands just as Fried had instructed.

The very first time I fought this boss, I got really lucky and the enemy AI seemed extremely passive. I got to 3rd phase with all 15 estus, and I died with blackflame freide at just over 1 hit left to die. Made the next 45 fight attempts extra aggrevating knowing how close I was initially. Beautiful fight though. Probably my favorite souls fight
Same thing exactly just happened to me today. I sweep through the first two stages no problem only to die at the last 5% hp or so. Then I repeat 20 times and can't even get past father ariandel cause of the tilt
Super late to this but this was my experience too. I fought her for the first time today and had zero issues getting to the third phase. Got Freide super close then she killed me before I could heal. I figured I’d get her in the next attempt, but it took me a solid 30 attempts after that before I defeated her.
This is just a general fact about FromSoftware's games. I tend to get pretty close on my first attempt, only for me to then it take a fuckton of tries until I actually manage to beat the boss.

After the 20th time watching I had a thought I never noticed before in the fight. It's cool how Friede gets another scythe after Ariandals death kinda like using his soul to make a boss weapon, nice detail imo
If you notice , her ice scythe produces ice attacks, her other big scythe is just melee, but when she clashes the edges of the two scythes, she produces the awesome blackflame attack, just like what ariandel tells her in his death.
This is a boss that can punish melee builds, I tried dozens of time beating her with quality build using Lothric Great & Straight Swords and no luck. Someone said the Hollowslayer Greatsword worked well on her. I was able to beat her 2nd try with that and Gael phantom's help. Gael was finally able to last the whole fight, we got Friede trapped against the wall and gang-banged her with stunlocks. May have been luck, because Gael is usually dead before 3rd fight, but Hollowslayer seemed to work.
she has that pull-in scythe attack from Gehrman and the jump-twist-explosion fall attack from Maria. I guess she took a wrong street in Yharnam and ended up lost.

Just beat her recently. This boss is simply amazing. Made me scream and punch my bed in rage, but I loved every second deep down. Her moveset is majestic.
I love the transition cutscene from phase one to phase two, when Ariandel goes from "weak sounding old man" to "absolute beast mode" and smashes the entire room to pieces :D
Bricklord That is the sound of a man enraged when he sees someone he loves getting hurt. Would we not behave the same when we see someone picking on our friends, spouses etc and etc? I myself would be killed in less than 2 seconds but it would be nice if I was powerful enough to protect my friends.
nah man, she wields the Fire of Humanity, so that means she's technically as Hot as Humanly possible... Get it! XD ... ... *cricket chirps* Okay I'll shut up now.
From must've realized how hard this fight was, since summoning Gael is 100% free. Don't need an ember or anything, the only catch is he shows up during the second phase but the first phase can be beaten without too much trouble.
@@LadyStoneheart312 Sunny D as in the drink. It's named that because we get Vitamin D from the Sun. It sort of became a running joke within the Souls community at some point
Sgt Nooodle not to be a pedant but it’s more like early modern English (like Shakespeare) than middle or old English. Those two are surprisingly different from what’s spoken today :)
This is 3 things Sister Friede and Crossbreed Pricella from Dark souls 1 have in common; 1 they wield scythe's. 2 they live inside a painting. 3 they can go invisible during the fight.
not really, she has other weakpoints that make up for it, like easy to punish attacks and low poise. It's not that hard to hit her if you practice a little. There are bosses that are harder to hit.
This boss encounter is Ornstein and Smough perfected; both completely complement one another, and the fight escalates the more you defeat them, which goes along with the fact that they were intentionally keeping themselves weak so as to keep the flames dormant and maintain the pocket dimension they're in.
@@joesheridan9451 Nah if you're good at parrying and backstabbing she becomes damn easy in first phase Third phase is damn absurd, even harder than Lady Maria
Hitboxes in this fight already suck. When you stay near Ariandel's legs when he attacks with his bowl and moving forward, it counts as you were hit by the bowl
That animation has been around since Dark Souls 1, Fromsoft just rarely uses it. It was used with bosses and enemies with ridiculously strong hits that could still be blocked. The only three I remember are: The Taurus Demon enemies from DS1, all their hits forced you into that animation making it hard to tank them because you kept being forced to back up. Kalameet's flying charge knocked you back like that, with not a lot of stamina cost. Sinh the Slumbering Dragon has the same flying charge with the animation as well.
Ariandel is actually adorable. He’s childlike in a way, and I actually felt horrible when he looked up to see if the fight was over and saw Friede bleeding to death on the floor. His scream was so emotional.
My experience: *attempt 1* Pfft why is she so weak I didn't even get hit *gets on second phase* "oh god" *attempt 6* I've finally beaten the second phase! *gets on third phase* "ffs" It took me around *25* attempts to beat the boss at NG+3 SL120, This is by far the hardest boss I've ever encountered, you make it look so easy. And yes, I gave up and summoned the NPC at the end :(
sneezin'cat I remember watching it for the first time and feeling genuinely sad about killing Friede, I just killed this mad man’s only daughter and watching him lose his mind over it almost made me tear up
@@小彭-t5n In fairness, Malenia isn't even a boss. She's 3 overtuned attacks disguised as a boss, given a 33k health bar and lifesteal on top of it all to make sure she stays alive long enough to cycle between those attacks. I've no hit her. It's surprisingly easy. She fights very unintelligently, she just has sheer stats. Insane damage, 3 one shot attacks, a ton of health, and lifesteal. She'd be a great boss without the clone and waterfowl dance attacks. It's extremely fun to parry only her to death.
That game was like the only hack and slash that wasn't a Devil May Cry game or Bayonetta that I really loved. Greatly flawed by those stupid button mashing bits you have to do to heal though.
They really owned it with this fight. It made up for the short DLC and the other boss IMO For me definitely in the top 5 of Souls (only dark, haven't played DeS or BB) bosses. Everything about this boss is so cool. First phase is like getting to know her movement, not too hard if you learn her attack patterns Second phase is a GOOD gankfight - nearly impossible to achieve, but they did it. and third phase is like "get rekt m8". It's really the most challenging part and you better have some Estus left
And pray tell, how do you "get to know" an invisible attack that can come at you from any angle, and if that angle happens to not be in front of you, is literally impossible to dodge?
Ariandel seems so,,, human when we first speak to him. He’s well spoken and quiet with a heavy, very clearly human accent, and we don’t get to see much of his physical form but his movements seem consistent with that of a normal person, just very large. But after that scream, oh man after that scream He goes from a twisted human to an inhuman monster in seconds, all because of that bone chilling scream, and his erratic, jerky movements, not to mention the continued shrieking. Amazing seeing how quickly FS can make a whole characters vibe completely different in seconds through seemingly simple things
@@pandinus1377 You get used to it after some time but omg it's exhausting having to go through those birds. Wish we could get to the boss fight just going across the bridge in the beginning
This has got to be one of the best boss fights/scenes in any game, ever...the atmosphere, the cinematics, the dialogue, the progression - just incredible. I've re-watched this video at least 15 times because of how beautiful/brilliant it is.
Honestly my favorite boss in the series. The gentle intent of snuffing you out in phase one. To the combined rage of Soup Man. Then finally he sacrifices everything to resurrect her one last time. Friede in a final effort tries every maneuver she has known to stop you, combined with the rage of her now dead father. Absolutely beautiful fight. Soup man was to me worse then Phase Three just because I was on New Game Plus Two, and his damage was massive. Amazing fight though, almost makes dying in it a gift to play it again. Edit: I'm currently making a game, and I will surely have a boss equal to this. This fight is too fun to pass on. I am currently writing lore on this right now. Also thank you to whoever read my rambling this far. I'm grateful that some would take time out just to read my weird comments. ❤
Dunno three phases is excessive plus the last phase is a bit too fast for ds3. Unlike other hard bosses like midir or gael when I have fun I I always tend to cheese or just circle around looking for backstabs with friede cause 3 goddamned healthbars and fast af attacks and dodges is too much...
The best thing about this is when you get the titanite slab and you go like "well, a bit lackluster for a boss reward, isn't it." and a few seconds later things make much more sense.
I mean, the camera lock is there for you to actively focus enemies. So enemies that actively make an effort to ambush you unlock the camera. I think that makes sense. You'd have to look around as a person as well, if your opponent randomnly teleported away. I have no issue with that.
Man something similar happened to me during my fight with nameless king. Our Internet went down and I got a "connection lost, returning to the game menu screen". Turns out something had randomly happened to the area's connection, it was repaired within minutes and we got an apology email. Its like the universe conspired just to ruin my victory
there is no way. I played all other fromsoft games, currently on Shadow of the erdtree. I really loved Soul of cinder and Radagon, but no way I liked them more than I liked this fight. man, I keep coming back to this video. I did this with no summons, took me around 80 tries. dark souls 3 wasnt very hard for me, usually I could memorize boss patterns and dodge effectively and the movement(you can dodge really far) was very good so I felt like a god, but friede dodges as well and punishes hard if you keep attacking, and god she punished me. definetely my favorite boss fromsoft has ever made, music and gameplay wise. and I will keep coming to this video
Blackflame Friede is so sick. One of my favorite bosses in all of soulsborne. The music and everything is just so captivating. Love how she dodges around like a Bloodborne character. Lol
I like the ultra-elegant psycho-bosses. Dancer of the Boreal Valley was such a lovely fight visually. Friede tops it by a wide margin, though. I think it's the most well-designed boss fight in the game. It's as gimmicky as all the others but the gimmicks in this fight are of a very high order.
As a person who have never played any DS game and got here by accident, I must say that this battle looks absolutely incredible from aesthetic pov. Also, since I know nothing about the lore, I like to think that this lady don't attack with ice but rather drain all warmth from surroundings.
God this is why I love souls, beautiful music over cinematic fights. Abyss watchers, Sister Freide and Nameless King made me fall in love with this game and I’ll never stop playing it until either another souls game is out or elden ring comes out with all dlc
I have never played any of the Dark Souls games but I can tell these are ridiculously difficult boss fights. Watching these Souls boss fights, the likes of The Orphan of Kos, Nameless King, Sister Friede, etc. feels nothing less than enjoying art. It feels all the more beautiful when you know that beating these bosses was so damn hard. Add to it the amazing characters that these bosses are and the all the beautiful soundtracks playing in the BG. Souls games are pure art.
play it man! don't listen to Internet darksouls games are not hard they are challenging but fair. ds3 is a good place to start you will love it, use a walk through guide if you must but you have to experience it. these games are a masterpiece
Dude play it! Ds3 is my first and its my favourite game ever. Didnt even need to understand the story. For me it was the difficulty challenge and having the high of finally beating it getting good step by step. Insane fun!
Play it... i've never played souls games up untill 6 months ago... and it is a great ride.. now i am on Dark Souls 3, just beat Sister Friede... found this video because i wanted to watch the battle again whole :D
I'm extremely glad I ended up getting into souls like games, learning the patterns of each unique character in which there's a multitude of is an experience I've never felt with many other games on this level. I have genuine respect for some bosses due to the sheer amount of stress they put me through during my first encounters with them. Only makes me want more bosses to learn the movesets of. hoping elden ring has this level of skill and character.
Lobster with Mustard and Rice no friede is also a widely used verson of the word, for example "Friede sei mit dir" (a phrase mainly used during prayers in german churches" means something like "may peace be with you" when translated to english
Whoever did the voice of Ariandal deserves a fat medal. That scream was both painful and fearful at the same time. I mean you’ve got to be in a lot of pain to invoke that kind of scream out of you.
I cant even begin to explain the amount of fear that entered my soul on that third phase, that shit threw me off so damn hard. Like I got the slab and was walking away like ‘fok ye I ded it’ and then I heard that dialogue come up, then turned around and saw Friede getting up again with black flame. I literally said “OHhh Sssssshhhhiit”

That animation has been around since Dark Souls 1, Fromsoft just rarely uses it. It was used with bosses and enemies with ridiculously strong hits that could still be blocked.
The only three I remember are:
The Taurus Demon enemies from DS1, all their hits forced you into that animation making it hard to tank them because you kept being forced to back up.
Kalameet's flying charge knocked you back like that, with not a lot of stamina cost.

Everything about this boss is so cool.

Second phase is a GOOD gankfight - nearly impossible to achieve, but they did it.

Out of the maxed Estus count, you can chug maybe 2 Estus before the Final Stage. Otherwise you're fucked.
But after that scream, oh man after that scream
He goes from a twisted human to an inhuman monster in seconds, all because of that bone chilling scream, and his erratic, jerky movements, not to mention the continued shrieking. Amazing seeing how quickly FS can make a whole characters vibe completely different in seconds through seemingly simple things

The music, the visual aesthetics of the fight, and the emotion of this battle makes it my top DS3 fight.
