My last trip to Alice Town (‘71) was a real adventure. Unmarked channel into the Harbor, threading our way through the coral reefs, the Main Street was unpaved. It was just a deep sea fishing town that still remembered Hemingway. Good times.

Great video. Was wondering where to crossover from Florida in a powerboat. Wondering when you made this video since we’re now in the middle of hurricane season.
Ehhh. A Hurricane takes 5 days to approach the coast. Take 3 hours to get there... you can safely planify the crossing. I would cross from Miami, c Many options there. If you are scare of Miami (stupid myth) you can choose ft Lauderdale as these dudes did .

That hull can handle alot more than 3 foot swell! Hatteras built quickly machines still do! That would power through 6 foot no problems! Not very comfortable ! Yes a bit top heavy but no issue! Happy sailing ⚓🛳
I agree. This boat can handle a lot more than we can. We try to avoid anything over 3 feet when possible, although, we have been out in 6 footers once or twice.
I'd love to see and hear your engines at full throttle once. If you'd be willing, trust the engines and are comfortable to do so. Keep up the good work!

It is quite possible the marina notified them That I was coming. Still - it was Sunday. Hard to imagine they came in for me. Perhaps a number of boats were arriving. At $300 a pop, that might be worth while.
In your opinion what is the smallest size boat that could comfortably make the same trip you guys did? NJ/PA area down to the Bahamas following the same course more or less.
We used to have a Carver 355 and we believe that would be the smallest we would ever take on a trip like this. It would be perfect on the ICW but we would be a little more careful about monitoring the weather on the ocean and crossing to the Bahamas. We took our 355 up to Martha's Vineyards and it was great for that trip.

Besides location we look for marinas that can handle large boats. We do not like to be the biggest boat that they get. We prefer that they be close to town, or at least have a restaurant or Tiki Bar. We typically look them up in Waterway Guide or on the internet.
Were you at the Bahia Mar in Fort Lauderdale? That's the home of the adventurous character Travis McGee where he lives on his house boat. It was a series of novels written by John D. MacDonald (1964-1984). My Uncle Darrell collected them all and gave them to me after he read them. I don't read a lot of fiction, but these are worthwhile. I always visit the marina when I am down there. BTW I love your videos.

The only jobs that still have pensions. Pay here is high. fireman? Around $150,000 to $250,000. Keep your record clean. After 9/11 they do background checks. If you need better details, just ask.

I remember in 66 my first visit to Bimini. We arrive by chalks airline. Pull up on the beach in my ears were ringing. Two customs agents made you declare all items that were made in China. Chinese goods were thrown in a pile and set on fire on the beach. 🤔 The Brown's motel and Marina was an old ramshackle 2 story frame building painted brown. My dad supplied all the heating air and commercial restaurant for the Bimini big game club. I spent my days fishing off of browns dock. My very first day on that dock I caught a 12lb mutton snapper 👍 man I was a happy kid.the next day my Dad paid a local guide with a 15 foot wood skiff to take me fishing for the outlandish price of $25 for the whole day. By 1 p.m.l was too tired to fish.caught so many grouper trigger mutton snapper fish and other fish that my arms were wore out. 6 oz bottle of coke cost $1. There was a ship-to-shore radio shack in the middle of town. That's how you made phone calls. There was no cars on the island at that time. Bicycles and mopeds. One small Datsun pickup truck that made deliveries around the island. It sure has changed over the 50-plus years. We went every weekend for many years. Some of the best times of my life. Safe travels to you and your family. ♥️🇺🇸

We made the crossing in mid May. Our eventual goal was to get out of Florida before August to avoid hurricanes.

We have never taken them up to full throttle. 1750rpms is the highest. It makes me nervous, although I am sure they would be fine.
Trying Not To Sink I run my own around 2000 RPMs, sometimes 2200. Tried full throttle a couple of times and started to knock.

We stayed at Big Game Resort, and ate at their restaurant a few times. There is a big resort on the other side of the island. Forget the name.

5 hours to Bimini. Three days to Nassau, with stops at Bimini and Chub.

My very first day on that dock I caught a 12lb mutton snapper 👍 man I was a happy kid.the next day my Dad paid a local guide with a 15 foot wood skiff to take me fishing for the outlandish price of $25 for the whole day. By 1 p.m.l was too tired to fish.caught so many grouper trigger mutton snapper fish and other fish that my arms were wore out. 6 oz bottle of coke cost $1. There was a ship-to-shore radio shack in the middle of town. That's how you made phone calls. There was no cars on the island at that time. Bicycles and mopeds. One small Datsun pickup truck that made deliveries around the island. It sure has changed over the 50-plus years. We went every weekend for many years. Some of the best times of my life.
