"Coward" track is actually from the scene, where protagonist is going to die from suffocation. The scene with damaged spaceship entering the atmosphere is "No time for caution". Although it uses the same music theme as "Coward", but in more intense way.
Actually in the “Mountains” the rhythm is 42.58 bpm every ~1.4 seconds a tic and if you do the math, 42.58 bpm = 2,555 bph (beats per hour) and there is 2,555 days in 7 years “Seven years per hour here. Love Memento! Though I feel like it suffers severely for repeat viewings because the initial viewing is so original and thought provoking. I guess that could be said for most movies though.
I couldn't agree more. Mountains and Coward get their due respect, but STAY is the track that made it's corresponding scene one of my most memorable theater experiences. The way that it evokes both awe and wonder of the unknown (venturing into outer space) while also casting undertones of sorrow and longing (leaving your daughter, family, and home planet behind) is incredibly powerful. Not to mention how the immense build up literally culminates in a rocket taking off. Interstellar has got to be Hans Zimmer's best work.
They're collaborators so it goes hand in hand. But Zimmer's score is to fulfill Nolan's larger vision. But absolutely, Zimmer scored the hell out of Interstellar.
Why do you think it's mediocre? Personally I think it's Nolan's best -excluding Momento- because it's the only one of his films driven by emotion and a key relationship as opposed to an intellectual action movie such as Dunkirk. I mean arguably Dunkirk has an emotional backbone- but no where near to that of Interstellar in my opinion. But anyone you're entitled to your own opinion, I guess I kinda just defeated the purpose of this comment but because I spent five minutes writing it I'm gonna post it anyway haha.
*sierra_aviator* If you’re talking about that short story of a father leaving his daughter that Nolan gave to Zimmer as a guide, he didn’t lie to him. I actually think the main point of this movie is the father/daughter relationship with the daughter waiting for her father (hence this touching soundtrack, compared to other space-based movies, and that notion of time passing by) so Nolan knew what he was doing.
The track that plays during the docking scene is "No Time For Caution". "Coward" plays in the scene where Cooper is being rescued after getting attacked by Mann down on the planet. Great video, just a little mix-up!
There must be different versions with different versions because I've seen different titles for a lot of tracks. I own the score and there is no track called "No Time For Caution." Weird! But glad you liked the video.
It's part of the deluxe set with 24 tracks. 8 additional tracks on top of the 16 standard ones. Worth to check out! Especially if it's one of your favourite soundtracks, like you pointed out ;)
Worse yet, the actual in-film version is also not the one you're talking about. I think there is one on UA-cam here: search no time for caution film version, even though it deviates slightly, it's still the best one I've heard
About the second scene: There's also a ticking clock preceding the docking scene where the crew literally tries to *Diffuse the Bomb* by racing Dr. Mann to take control of the Endurance and/or depressurizing everything. They fail of course, which heightens stakes and tension to the followup scene. I'd argue that _that one_ is the most tense scene in the movie actually.
Luckily Dr. Mann got himself killed. I honestly hoped he'd die in a more painful and brutal way, but... Anyway, I agree, that it's the most tense scene.
I believe the soundtrack "no time for caution (docking)" had a very heavy set influence of the ticking clock idea, that scene was very intense. #comeonTars
What a great nuance! It's the little things like this that makes Interstellar my favorite film of all time. Saw it 4 times in the theater! Also the song that plays when the ship is falling towards Mann's planet is "No Time For Caution." It transitions from "Coward" to "No Time For Caution" once they're in space. Love your videos
Thanks so much! Yeah, sounds like the confusion comes from the fact that there's a bonus version of the Interstellar soundtrack. They're always trying to trick me! But glad you still liked the video. :)
Yeah, I was gonna comment the same thing. Although, there's one thing missing. In between Coward and No Time For Caution is actually Imperfect Contact which plays when Cooper and Brand flies behind Dr Mann toward the Endurance (basically once they're in space) and plays until Dr Mann destroys the airlock, transitioning right into the chorus for No Time For Caution.
The original release doesn't have No Time for Caution on it. You have to find it as a bonus track released later on Zimmer's website. I know, stupid right?
chiffmonkey that wasn’t the case for me. Maybe it was different for me because I’m in the US? But I preordered the OST after seeing the film. And I had all the tracks no problem. Including “No Time For Caution.” However, the version of “No Time for Caution” that’s in the OST is different the theatric version because the climax in the OST version is strings while in the film it’s an organ. So maybe that’s what you were referring to? But yeah the song that plays during the docking scene is “No Time for Caution” watch the scene and listen to it. It’s pure beauty.
The music isn’t scary to me, rather I see (and feel) it as being cosmic. It perfectly portrays the universe, time, and human love. It’s beautiful and painful.

Hans Zimmer is very clever with his compositions of scores, especially with those "running out of time" scenes. I personally think of Angels and Demons and the Da Vinci Code showcase his ability to get a person's heart racing
WELL DONE!!! Nice explanation. You only forgot to note that the main ship is designed like a clock, endlessly turning in space with it's 12 modules. It is to remind us that the mission is a race against time itself to save mankind from extinction. And also that our life period is limited Greetings from Brasil.
little mistake - Coward is the theme that plays during the confrontation on Mann's channel. It also uses the ticking motif. The docking track is called... Docking.
I think the two songs are actually “Mountains” and “No Time for Caution”, but other than that, great video! I love the movie Interstellar, especially TARS, the ‘walking refrigerator’ robot, according to my friends.
same for me! Once i saw your editing style right when the video started i knew i was subscribing to this channel. The first minute is soooo aesthetically pleasing!!!
I think 'No time for caution' wasn't added in the official score in the begging, because was partly in 'Coward', however people were asking about it and eventually they added it to the official score, if I am not mistaken.
Probably stated before, but the song is "No Time for Caution", not "Coward". Coward happened between Dr Mann and Cooper's fight scene. But it's a foreshadowing of the docking scene
Helo! I'm talking about Brazil (oi gente!) and I was super happy to see that your video had Brazilian Portuguese subtitles! Thank you so much for thinking about us!

Especially if it's one of your favourite soundtracks, like you pointed out ;)
Oh wow, I didn't even realize! Thanks for the info!
No time for caution unfortunately isn't on the original soundtrack, even though IT'S THE BEST TRACK
Worse yet, the actual in-film version is also not the one you're talking about. I think there is one on UA-cam here: search no time for caution film version, even though it deviates slightly, it's still the best one I've heard
F in the chat for all those who actually died a minute after he said “what if I told you, you’re gonna die in a minute?”
I listent to Cornfield Chase everyday.
A good song to hear everyday.
Makes me want to tear through a cornfield.
I used to have a clip of it as my alarm in the morning. Sadly it wore the song out for me for a while.

UBER MENSCH my favorite track. takes my depression away!! : )
Zimmer + Nolan is the best duo ever. It feels like they think as one person
That's why they are called geniuses
Yes!
Id like to like this comment, but it has 60 likes... *clock noise intesifies*
I believe the soundtrack "no time for caution (docking)" had a very heavy set influence of the ticking clock idea, that scene was very intense. #comeonTars
Yep! The extended version of the soundtrack tricked me!
@Nolan Brewer IMAX theater myself, and it was fantastic!
Nolan Brewer Shame on me
@Nolan Brewer I had a chance to see it,but rejected it...and now i'm gonna regret it for the rest of my life😢😢
I’m so glad I saw this comment 😅 Was getting ready to say that this track is called “No Time For Caution”. Love this video as well 😃👍🏽
We watched Interstellar as part of our course on Einstein's space-time distortion... Nothing could explain it much better than the movie!!
What a great nuance! It's the little things like this that makes Interstellar my favorite film of all time.
Saw it 4 times in the theater!
Also the song that plays when the ship is falling towards Mann's planet is "No Time For Caution."
It transitions from "Coward" to "No Time For Caution" once they're in space.
In between Coward and No Time For Caution is actually Imperfect Contact which plays when Cooper and Brand flies behind Dr Mann toward the Endurance (basically once they're in space) and plays until Dr Mann destroys the airlock, transitioning right into the chorus for No Time For Caution.
it says coward on the cd album
Interstellar is a perfect film.
No way it's a perfect film.
@@Indeeee ?
@@Indeeee and I thought the real Indiana Jones had an attitude. ✋😒
Lol OK
The music isn’t scary to me, rather I see (and feel) it as being cosmic. It perfectly portrays the universe, time, and human love. It’s beautiful and painful.

@@NaChaengMiHyo Let's make this overrated.

The song that plays on during the docking scene is actually called “no time for caution.” Coward plays earlier
Hans Zimmer is very clever with his compositions of scores, especially with those "running out of time" scenes. I personally think of Angels and Demons and the Da Vinci Code showcase his ability to get a person's heart racing
Interstellar is that one movie that makes you feel as if you can’t breathe
WELL DONE!!! Nice explanation.
You only forgot to note that the main ship is designed like a clock, endlessly turning in space with it's 12 modules.
It is to remind us that the mission is a race against time itself to save mankind from extinction. And also that our life period is limited
Greetings from Brasil.
Great Video, as always!
Thanks so much!! :)
Oh rupty auch hier xD
I miss interpreted the title as “What makes Interstellar music so terrifying” as in Interstellar music in general.
little mistake - Coward is the theme that plays during the confrontation on Mann's channel. It also uses the ticking motif. The docking track is called... Docking.
it’s very interesting as to how a ticking noise- no matter how slight- immediately raises suspense,
"You are doing to die at the end of this minute " pauses video
Always high quality analysis from you. Thanks!
I think the two songs are actually “Mountains” and “No Time for Caution”, but other than that, great video! I love the movie Interstellar, especially TARS, the ‘walking refrigerator’ robot, according to my friends.
Thanks so much! Yeah, the extended version of the soundtrack tricked me!
Intrestellar music makes me cry of how beautiful it is
Me: What? It's not possible
Hans Zimmer: No, it's necessary
The "What Happens Now?" track is simply mesmerizing.
Found your channel recently, love the content and the editing complements it so well!
Thank you so much. Glad you found me. Hope you subscribed! :)
of course
same for me! Once i saw your editing style right when the video started i knew i was subscribing to this channel. The first minute is soooo aesthetically pleasing!!!

the second song you used wasn’t “coward” it was “no time for caution”
I think 'No time for caution' wasn't added in the official score in the begging, because was partly in 'Coward', however people were asking about it and eventually they added it to the official score, if I am not mistaken.
miroBGgsi That sounds correct
Probably stated before, but the song is "No Time for Caution", not "Coward". Coward happened between Dr Mann and Cooper's fight scene. But it's a foreshadowing of the docking scene
"What if i told you you're about to die at the end of this minute"

Hans Zimmer is an absolute legends. You cannot overrate that man.

Intro to this video was absolutely beautiful so scary and it adds to your title I love this video thumbs up to you man!
Even after 7 years, this film makes me goosebumps and I keep learning something new. No other film can do such a thing. Every time I see it, it evokes indescribable feelings in me. I am reaaalllyy glad that I had the unique opportunity to see this magnificent work in person at the Imax cinema.
The elk sound at the beginning was the best
Magnificent analysis....I never had a clue about this... thank you

Awesome!
My all-time favorite soundtracks:
Interstellar, Cinema Paradiso and LOTR as a whole. I'd like to see an analysis on Danny Elfman's "Main Titles"/"Farewell" in Spiderman 1. Or Wojciech Kilar - Exodus, used in Malick's Knight of Cups👌🏻
Love it!
The Cinema Paradiso soundtrack is soooo good but I don't know anyone who knows the film- makes me sad it deserves more credit.
Harvey Graham never heard of it so it seems like i have to look it uo
Lotr soundtrack is godly

seriously, the bit where they are saving the ship, the music puts me on the edge of my seat everytime. The musical score is intense
YES thank you for making this! I immediately began to hum coward as soon as I heard the 60bpm ticking at the beginning. One of the most genius scores of the decade.
Agreed! And so glad you enjoyed the video. :)
Ad at the end was Hans Zimmer MasterClass. How fitting.
All hail the algorithm.
Beautifully explained man, subscribed!
The movie literally deaerves a Oscar
Interstellar is the best movie I have seen in my entire life. I watched it so many times and every time it feels like I am discovering something new. The soundtrack is an essential part of why it is so amazing.
