"I need to constantly borrow money to cover the interest and debt payments on money I've borrowed previously to cover my previous debts. Oh god I've become an actual country."
Had the same exact thought :D There's more low-income people, so let's tax THEM more, because we'll make more money. That's probably how it goes in real-life as well. I would have startet with the sales tax instead :P
I'm actually playing Tropico 3 right now, there's really no good reason to be a dictator in the game oddly enough. It's pretty easy to keep people happy. You have the options to be a dictator, but so far I've done most of the 15 campaigns, and none of them actually have you being a dictator as a goal.
You just want to watch him deal with (the admittedly more accurate than I would like portrayal) of heavy traffic in a developing territory --- I want to see that too now.
I started watching the budget bar in about half way through the video, wonderin when Jon would notice and if he would go bankrupt. I was not disappointed by the end.
There IS a traffic filter, one of the small buttons on the bottom right. You can upgrade your roads without bulldozing them first (same with upgrading houses, etc to medium or high density)
You might enjoy Rise of Industry if you like this kind of game. I know I certainly do. Also, eventually, and hopefully we'll get a New New New New New New New New New New New New New New New Jonton. 15 New Jontons. Hooray for Doctor Who!
Jon, ignore this if I asked you before, but have you played Caesar 3? Essentially a city sim set in (slightly dubiously accurate) Ancient Rome? I would think you would enjoy it.
Yaaas! Caesar II was bomdiggidy! Except when you were just waiting for the Empire % to raise, or you got taxed by Caesar, or two armies invaded at the same time and you could only train 20 legionaries a turn or...
Does density really translate to income in this game? I feel like just slapping down regular high density zones means that a lot of low income people can live in one tile and you need to boost the property value in order for a ton of rich people to live together in zone.
If you enjoyed this game you meant like urban empire. It like this one. The game doesn’t call itself a city builder/simulator but instead a city manager so yeah you should check it out
It has some bad memory leaks and other issues with it, but I did have a pretty good time with it for a couple of playthroughs. The faction diplomacy piece is actually fairly interesting, and the passage through time is nice.
Stopped too soon with developing the gold and iron mines and building beaches. Every time you built a mine your revenue went up, but then you over built residential and commercial in response.
He needs to keep the High Income low, to attract them into moving into the city. You can't tax people who do not exist yet. It makes more sense to tax the majority present to maximize profits.
Hrhmm having played city skylines religiously and being obsessed with the aesthetics of my city im a bit on the fence about this one.... Looks a bit weird with no minor roads.
Took Jon only half an hour to discover what economists call the "technical debt trap". Well done. Also a degressive tax system (aka tax the poor) seems to work really well.. :P
Apparently Jon's love for Greek things also applies to its modern economy
Slow clap, tips hat
Bravo sir, very good.
"I need to constantly borrow money to cover the interest and debt payments on money I've borrowed previously to cover my previous debts. Oh god I've become an actual country."
"So if I just slightly increase the tax rate..."
*quadruples tax for low income residents*
Daniel Perry
We probably shouldn't let Jon run the UK
Daniel Perry bah, those scrubs just need to up their game
that how it starts....
Daniel Perry Jon should come to American and become a politician.
Had the same exact thought :D There's more low-income people, so let's tax THEM more, because we'll make more money. That's probably how it goes in real-life as well. I would have startet with the sales tax instead :P
Why hasn’t Jon played the Tropico series yet, being a dictator seems right up his alley
Hope he plays Tropico 4
Replaying tropico 5 atm, its not as shit as I remember.
Josh Shacklock tropico 5 isn't bad, just... different
You just want to watch him deal with (the admittedly more accurate than I would like portrayal) of heavy traffic in a developing territory --- I want to see that too now.
If the government increased the tax from 2 to 8%, I wouldn't call it a slight increase.
Gotta love that taxing the poor 4x as much as the rich and not noticing your 5% approval rating
Martin Mcintosh Typical capitalist "democracy" ;)
"Presidente, the taxes are crippling the economy! We have a huge deficit!"
"Quick! Raise taxes some more!"
Oh Jon, never change.
I started watching the budget bar in about half way through the video, wonderin when Jon would notice and if he would go bankrupt. I was not disappointed by the end.
Any management game Jon plays is guaranteed to end in disaster, calling it before i start the video.
MORE BONDS MORE BONDS
Oh god I've become an actual country. Jon, welcome to the big leagues . you're ready to manage a nation in real life now.
New New New Jonton, damn it you've gone Doctor Who again
I Can't Believe It's Not Jonton?
At least there were no one way roads
Is it just me, or does Jon create a dystopia every time he plays a city builder?
I was crying with laughter as his utopia turned into a dystopia ending with Greek style borrowing to service his previous borrowings.
New new new ways to build one way road systems!
“I’m sure nobody will die. Or if anyone does die, it will be a very small number of people.” Oh, Jon...
Just finished re-watching FONV Kill Everything and wow, your intro has gotten a lot more energy since then.
Jon - "The welfare state turned out to be expensive."
Me - DUH!
Complains unemployment is too low.
Makes new jobs.
Fuck that shit tho, id rather low unemployment to high unemployment like every town ive ever lived in :/
You made this very entertaining I must say.
This graphics of this game kinda reminds me of Simcity 2000
May I mention that New New New Jonton's flag looks like the Gmail icon?
Aw yeah, Clicked on this so fast! Any chance Jon gets at politic-ing(?) is sure to be a blast XD
A city planning game?
Yes! Yes! Yes!
I want the next city to be New Old Jonton.
New⁴ Jonton
I must say Jon, just about finished with you CK:II video and then I discover this, you the man.
Fireflux I prefer the name New Jonton x15
Hmm, doesn't roll of the tongue as much as saying New 15 times. Tennant nailed that!
The real question is, can we legislate one-way roads?
Jon, ignore this if I asked you before, but have you played Caesar 3? Essentially a city sim set in (slightly dubiously accurate) Ancient Rome? I would think you would enjoy it.
One lesson I learned in that game that's relevant here: always prioritize your exports as early as possible.
nessesaryschoolthing Caesar II or go home. :D
Pharaoh was so good
Yaaas! Caesar II was bomdiggidy! Except when you were just waiting for the Empire % to raise, or you got taxed by Caesar, or two armies invaded at the same time and you could only train 20 legionaries a turn or...
So many great moments.. Please make more on this game.
Jon - how dare you make America. We come here for lovely British humor!
Boy, Jon sure does have a track record in city/nation building games, huh? Those poor fake civilians.
"ok. we're going to have a gold rush. The gold will save us" - haha. Love it. If only I could do this in real life.
Does density really translate to income in this game? I feel like just slapping down regular high density zones means that a lot of low income people can live in one tile and you need to boost the property value in order for a ton of rich people to live together in zone.
I agree with you.
Density translates to income in real city building as well. Suburban sprawl is a money sink.
Jon you deserve way more subscribers. I enjoy watching you play games that i have absolutely no interest in.
Today Jon on how to ru(i)n a country xD
Right, the parks are only for the rich district... oh god, I've created a dystopia.
Don't ever change.
"Oh my god I became an actual country"
Welcome to Night City Jon!
This game is £11. You can get Democracy 3 and every one of the Sim City games for that price!
No.... You can’t lol um.................
"I need to borrow money to cover the interest on my previous loans" lets face it, he just made a miniature UK, deficit and all!
Enjoyed the video! I'd like to see this game again!
okay. you got my attention.
"That's where I live, it's blurry and wonderful"
Is that Frank Ticheli's "Cajun Folk Songs" at 7:15?
Love this channel
why is this not called "jon makes america great again?"
Penal labor is a pretty broad category. It could mean anything from a gulag to just making them clean up trash and perform other menial tasks
in a private prison its gonna be gulag levels of hard labor
Jon did you create The USA? Why would you do that?
Buster Bear I believe that in his eyes its under British control
So this video is basically every time Jon tries to make a city.
Taxing lower class more than upper classes? What are you, a Tory? XD
nashdogg2k12 Honestly he winds up doing this every time someone gives him a city/country to run.
Tax havens, investment booms, and lots of loans. Jon wants money now to fix the issues "at some point"
Jon has become Mrs May and taxed all the poor people till they bled
Yep I'm just going to wait a few months til we get new new new, new new new new new new new new new new, NEW, new jonton.
*keeps watching until then*
"Unemployment could arguably be a little bit higher. Let's build some INDUSTRY".
Thanks for introducing hardcore mode
Stopped too soon with developing the gold and iron mines and building beaches. Every time you built a mine your revenue went up, but then you over built residential and commercial in response.
more please! we need more :)
My why are the high income people taxed the least?
Cthulwho?
He's on the take XD
He needs to keep the High Income low, to attract them into moving into the city. You can't tax people who do not exist yet. It makes more sense to tax the majority present to maximize profits.
Well, righ people hate taxes too, but they can at least move away easier
''Oh my God, I've become an actual country''
Hrhmm having played city skylines religiously and being obsessed with the aesthetics of my city im a bit on the fence about this one.... Looks a bit weird with no minor roads.

I’d say that New Jonton x3 is a much better name than New New New Jonton.
How about New Jonton the Third?
To me it looks like algebra variables. New^3 Jonton.
EU3 : Death and Taxes who remembers this?
Hoo boy.
Can't wait for Nunu nunu Jonton.
hardcore mode is obviously new orleans
33:00 "high" taxes 33:17 even 5% imaging 72% it's beyond your wildest dreams
You should have called it Jonaco.
Love the content Jon
Wait... citystate... wasn't this the name of an online text based 'game' thing?
Wait, no, it was nationstates. Still, I wonder if its at all from the same people. Has the same feel.
Niall Mullenger I remember that game! I have a feeling I would have enjoyed the game more with discord.
You should’ve started with building gold mines in the begging
The graphics reminds me somewhat of the old Caesar/Pharoh games.
> Welfare state
> 1% tax on the wealthy
J O N
State owned mines produce less but cost more. Sounds about right.
Hello this is Google. Your cities flag is actually a big Gmail
Basically it's like urban empire but good
I am deeply disturbed by Jon's flagmaking skills.
To be fair. It only broke one of the flag design rules.
I want more!
Well, that was a remarkably short time to start and destroy a state...
please do a series on new new new jonton
Jon, this is great, but when is Parkitect returning! 💔💔💔
James Bradley Seems like it's nearing full release in the next couple months, so if he ever revisits it I imagine it won't be until then.
Once you put the social housing in the town collapsed lol
Jon please. Every time you play a society simulation game you end up ruining everyone's lives. Please keep playing them for our entertainment
you've easily become my favorite youtuber to watch
having 0 stability probably makes people want to leave
So this I essentially Liberland; the game
After 3 news start using one with exponents
This doesnt look like Cornwall at all?
Can we see more of Crusader Kings 2?
Hey Jon, have you heard of a game called Treasure Adventure World? It's kinda like if Wind Waker was a 2D Metroidvania.
And that folks is how a banana republic forms!
Problem: No money Solution: Raise race and don’t bother reducing spending
I read the title as Death and Texas. 😂
This just sounds like urban empire
The day we learned Jon wasn’t a good city designer
According to the comments you’re from Greece, I see how Greece nearly went bankrupt
I think your problem here was the lack of one way roads.
Congratz. You made California.
That's a weird way to say Greece
You know what stops the most crime? The threat of prison actually being awful.
More
"we need some people for our city..."
and then it all went downhill, the city was fine til u put people in it...
