I'm getting a lot of questions about why we're not wearing masks, so i just want to remind you all that we live in the Netherlands! Not only have measures been loosened here because our numbers are down, the measures that we do have in place are efficient according to our medical professionals (it just doesn't involve masks). Every country handles this differently and I of course want to encourage everyone to follow the guidelines your medical professionals have advised! Thanks for understanding!

I understand that and my country has less cases than yours. But remember that politicians can make mistakes and its important to wear a mask. Furthermore, youre an influencer and even if you dont need to wear a mask its good to set an example.
@@sharbear3866 I get what you mean, but I work in a bookstore too and literally no one wears a mask. Some people wear gloves but that's it. I don't think you get what life is like here: everything is (and has been) open normally, people still distance but no one stays inside anymore, the government basically gave the OK for everything (cinemas, museums, travelling within the country, no distance if you're under 17). It doesn't make sense that she should have to wear a mask even though it's clear she doesn't live in the US

Gwen the cases in the Netherlands are extremely low. They followed policies when they needed to and now they don’t. Not every country behaves like the US.
It gives me such a feeling seeing people living normally, it’s so strange. In Brazil the cases are abnormally high and I haven’t been outside the house for about 4 months now :(

I live in South Florida, so being able to see that there are others whose lives can go back to normal and actually go out is both uplifting and also incredibly frustrating. Thank you for this video, it makes me feel like I’m there as well ❤️
I’m in a neighboring state to you and our cases are sky high. It’s so frustrating to see other countries opening back up safely and knowing that America saw their good examples early on and just...chose not to do anything right. It feels like no end is in sight here and it’s so depressing
im from new york so things are beginning to reopen. it makes me so sad that states like florida are experiencing what i did in april, total shutdown. i agree its very frustrating
the fact that u can go around to different bookstores and not wear a mask cause ur in the netherlands vs me in california being scared to go to the grocery store makes me so happy for u but sad for america 😭 btw love ur vids their so relaxing and well made 🥰

I always really enjoy going out to book shops looking for a certain book or two. I also live in a small town, so I don't often find the books I want. But then the "I'll get this book instead" feeling kicks in, and I have four new books I didn't know I wanted to read. :)

deltora sparked my interest in reading, i used to travel to that world while reading as a kid, it was awesome
5:29 seeing With The Fire On High and asking myself why I didn’t buy it because ELIZABETH ACEVEDO (but then I remember the 150+ books on my physical tbr and then I’m okay again lol)

oh my god!!! Deltora Quest was my first fantasy series too!!! I love it so much! The riddles and mysteries CHANGED ME as a person!!! First fictional romance i got super invested in too!!! God SO GOOD!!!!

De Slegte! Daar kom ik graag voor tweedehands boeken! Nu kijk ik regelmatig online naar hun tweedehands voorraad. Museum of Broken Promises heb ik een tijd geleden gekocht, nog niet in begonnen maar leuk om hem in deze vlog te zien!
That was fun. I'm so jealous, i have to drive half an hour to get to a book store, and it's a big brand. THEN i have to drive another half hour for a used bookstore, but it's a big box corporate one as well. America! lol
I've been meaning to read those Asimov scifi books you pointed out. Those editions you have over there are so much nicer than the ones we get here.
And I also have but haven't read the Fifth Season. I know she won the Hugo 3 times in a row for that series.

DELTORA! Dang, probably i should find all the remaining books and read it XD I have the... fifth? Book of the series (I do remember there is a cool looking monster on the cover.) Iirc it's a little bit "simple" for my taste now but hey, i have (kind of) a nice memory of it.

Asides from that lol, this video is very interesting and fun to watch, all those book stores are so nice. Where I'm currently living, all the bookstores just look pretty much the same and have the same content inside so that's kinda boring, but I'm moving to a new city soon so that should hopefully change.

Ik houd zo ontzettend veel van Kooyker 😭💕💕. Ik kom oorspronkelijk uit Alkmaar, daar hebben we ook een boekenwinkel die dezelfde vibe heeft en mijn vader nam me altijd mee naar die boekenwinkel toen ik jonger was ☺️ dus Kooyker voelt gewoon een beetje vertrouwd 💕
Ik moest lachen met het kleine dorp in Nederland... Leiden is geen klein dorp. Ik woon in een klein dorp, de enige boekhandel die wij hebben is De Standaard (België)....

Deltora was the best! I would love to read it again, but I am afraid I would not like it that much. :)
Also, those are some beautiful bookstores. There are not that many in my surroundings, unfortunately, so I mostly buy books online. I love that in some of them, they still pack the books in paper, I remember that from my childhood only.
As for the masks.. In the Czech Republic, it currently depends on the region you are in, but in mine you only need to wear the masks when you go to a doctor or to a hospital. For now.

I live in a place where they have so little English books ,and the ones they have are mostly nonfiction and some classics.
The way she pronounced Acevedo was good, the spanish classes paid off.
if you really want to shop for fantasy, sf or any other speciality book in english go to the ABC (the american book centre) in the Hague or Amsterdam. or off course visit Donner in Rotterdam 😎

Usually yeah, they're really... boring and they use the most classic and stereotyped ways possible to talk about the story.
"A mistery, some dragons, a son/daughter of a king and a queen banished from the kingdom, must seek revenge, bla bla bla" (I mainly read fantasy books, but i've noticed this problem is EVERYWHERE. At least in fiction.)
The last book of which i read the back was my best friend's book and I could TELL it wasn't something written by her, but by the publishing company. So fake and boring and not catchy at all!
I mean, if they could talk a little bit about a cool but not so spoiler-y particular of the book or what makes the book different (I don't know, a sword and sorcery book that talks about a mage that tries to stop a mundane warlord instead of the inverse that iirc is the norm) it would definitely be better.

Leuke vlog, ik had geen idee dat er zoveel Engelstalige boekenwinkels waren in Leiden, dat ga ik zeker onthouden. :p Je hoeft je verder echt niks aan te trekken van al die opmerkingen over mondkapjes btw, met hoe vaag alles is lijkt het me prima als je gewoon afstand houdt. Volgens mij werd het juist ontmoedigd omdat iedereen anders denkt "oh ik heb een mondkapje (dat ik constant met mijn handen aanraak) dus nu kan ik gewoon in iedereens personal space staan", en dat is echt precies wat ik in andere vlogs zie - sowieso heeft iedereen die het wel "moet" toch telkens hem om zijn kin hangen en dat lijkt me veel schadelijker. :') Anyway, ik hoop dat je je niet teveel van die comments aantrekt!
