If you've noticed this site dotted on a map before and wondered if there's more than just those cluster of rocks, then we're here to tell you... YES!
Reading descriptions of how to find this hidden place is one thing, but sometimes seeing is better. Follow our video for how to find this place (and how NOT to).

Welcome to the Cactus Atlas! We are Glenn and Amy and invite you to join us as we visit all sorts of locations across the American West. We tour both natural and man-made attractions.
Our base of operations is in the Phoenix, AZ area. We do a lot of hiking and day trips as well as campground reviews, and hope that we will be a great resource if you are planning a trip to the American West. We also hope to delight you with our exciting adventures!
Your humor really cracks me up. Don’t forget to include some in all your videos. Also, I really appreciate learning about the geology of the many wonderful places you take us.
Thank you! Glad to hear our little information bits are enjoyed too. 😄
I cracked up with the Homer Simpson rock climber! 😂😂 so glad you found it! Is interesting to wonder why/ how it got the name!
Good question! Perhaps it came from rock climbers who climb around the area? Not sure really. There's a place also called the Chasm of Doom around there which after watching a video on it... I can EASILY see why it is called that. Lots of squeezing into and under small anxiety-inducing areas.
Fun! Kinda reminds me of Papago Park.
What a crazy find, never heard of this. Good job going back and finding it. I'll add to my list and see if I can check it out.
Haha! Yeah... not the most obvious place when you first arrive. Let us know if you end up going! 😄
Thanks for sharing , will need to check it out ❤
Hope you like it! It's a fun place to explore. 👍
Great video and great finding the Hall of Horrors. We were there just a month ago and we struggled and find it. Thanks for putting up this video and when we go back to Joshua Tree we are going to follow your trail. But anyway, we still enjoyed our time there at Joshua Tree and it’s one of our favorite National Park in California!
Thank you so much and glad you enjoyed the video! Hopefully it helps on a future trip to Joshua Tree. 😄
Cool video bro. I love JT. Thanks for taking the time!
Thanks! Glad you like our video we made. 👍
This is your best video yet. Great work.
Thank you so much! 😄
Wow, great find. That looks amazing. I've been to Joshua Tree a bunch of times and had never heard of Hall of Horrors before.
There's a bunch of locations we missed as the place is so huge. Even doesn't appear on Google maps until you zoom in the area. Pretty easy to miss but such a cool place!
Pretty cool !! Lovely video 😃👍🔔
Thank you so much 😁
I watched a video of here the other day but we didn't get to explore the hall of horrors! Good effort with the first attempt, glad we made it back for the 2nd hehe. Absolutely stunning isn't 😍
Thank you! Glad the second attempt was made too. Totally worth it! 😄
Gosh that was so cool!! Thanks for sharing! I’ve always wanted to go to Joshua Tree. I’m Californian too so there’s really no excuse till now that I’m on the other side of the country 🤦🏻♀️ Grateful to live vicariously through your adventures!
Thank you so much! Hopefully the opportunity allows you to go back and visit sometime and you'll have time to stop by Joshua Tree. 😄
Wonderful I enjoyed this so much thumb up💗👍
Hope you have a lovely weekend friend 🥰
Thanks so much! 😄
LOL the Homer Simpson of rock climbing...hilarious! I enjoyed the hike, but I'm still waiting for a "doh"
You're absolutely right. There really should have been a doh! DOH! 🤣
Pretty cool rock feature Glenn! Thanks...
Thanks. We're glad you enjoyed our video. 👍
great video, very descriptive
Thank you! Love to get feedback like this!
Wow just wow!!!! We're in SoCal and frequent Joshua Tree many times during the year but have NEVER even heard of Hall of Horrors until watching this. I can't wait to go back and try and find this...definitely going to watch this again and take lots of notes a d screenshots for reference. I thik I'll pass of chasm of doom though, probably end up being renamed Leticia's Doom😂 Thank you again!
The place has signs but for some reason doesn't seem well advertised (at least from what we've seen). Which is a shame. Agree with the charm of doom. A little too much for either of us. 😄
Nice video! There is a cave just to the left of the hall. It's pretty tricky to get to, but it's really neat. Maybe on your next visit.
Thanks so much! Not sure when we'll get out there again but will keep it in mind. 👍
What!! Haha me and my wife always wondered why in the heck that exhibit was called Hall of Horrors, everytime we go and climb around there we never saw anything special. Now i know!! Thanks man, now i cant wait to go back and find it!
It's certainly not the best explained location on maps or signs. But we're so pleased and happy to provide info for you! Happy future hiking! 😄
I’ve seen a few rattlesnakes while living in AZ. We let them live. 😊💜 I love joshua trees! So cool. That place is so amazing! 🥰
I’ve always wanted to know how the rocks got that way. So cool! Moths pollenate! Who knew?
Still never seen one... In the wild at least. A baby on our front porch? Unfortunately. 😂
@@CactusAtlas yikes. 😂
Boy howdy!!! You are persistent. That was certainly worth the adventure, I'd say.
Thank you! Once you see photos of the place it definitely drives the desire to go back and find it. 😄
Is this the same thing as the Chasm Of Doom at Joshua Tree which also has youtube videos dedicated to it?
They're not terribly far from one another, but no... the Chasm of Doom is a different thing. This one is more accessible and doesn't require the same skill level of scrambling or squeezing into tight spaces.
The real hall of horror is now you have to climb back up that rock 🤪 Glad you found it. It was pretty cool 😎
Haha! It wasn't that bad. There's plenty of places to put your feet to get back up. Finding the place in the first place was the real hard part. 😂
Whoa that’s weird I’m pretty sure I climbed out of the first hole that you avoided. I thought I was in hall of horrors there. I never been to the place you were at the end of the video. Just shows that I need to explore more. I’m going back soon so I’ll verify but I’m almost positive I climbed out of there from coming from the other side
We figured that one can go into that one hole but weren't sure where it went. Will be curious to know more about it. Keep us updated on what you find when you return there! 😄
Thank you for the info! Do you walk into the H of H until you can't go further and then turn around or ?.
Yes, that is correct. It is not that long either.
Great video. I’m going to JTNP next week. How can I find this amazing Gem?
Looking forward to your response
Thanks a bunch
We show how to find it in the latter part of the video.
They don’t break the bank on signage in JT, do they? I’ve never heard of this part of the park, and you made it look easy once it was located. Another great video, thanks!
It feels like lots of little places to explore out there. And oddly enough they only seem to show up on random maps. 🤣
Thanks SO much! Are you saying it’s possible to go all the way through and out, you just chose to go through and back out?
The only way an out of shape fella like me felt comfortable is going out the same way, but I have seen videos of people climbing out the other way, and there is supposed to be another way out that people call ‘the mini chasm of doom’. I wish I remembered the video I saw, but if you search for other videos on this, you will see what I mean.
Careful! Shade = snakes!
Omg. I'm like that. It sounds little morbid. I don't care it's interesting
😄👍
This feels very 127 Hours. I’m wondering if you’re near that location.
There was a cool caving area that is not marked that I did in Joshua tree, but you could easily miss it. I don't think if I went back I could find it again.
Oh that sounds so cool! It seems that Joshua Tree is full of hidden things. 😂
@@CactusAtlas Yeah, takes more than a day to see it all.
We camped at the National Park where is the Hall of Horrors from there?
It is off Park Blvd northeast of Cap Rock. Google Maps has it labeled so you should be able to find it there.
I think, if your out like this in the desert or even a forest...the more noise you make, the better...I'm thinking it would scare any animals away...of course, some of us like seeing them...just not the scary ones.
Haha. Very true. But even some might be fine. At a distance. 😅
Thanks for doing this for us. Most people wouldn't have made another trip back to find the Hall of Horrors.
Sorry I gotta laugh at your Directions though.
So we gotta go past the bunch of rocks follow the trail be the Joshua Tree, not that trail butt the other trail. Find the sign that says Hall of Horrors to the backside of the other bunch of rocks. Take a right at the rocks. Not the small rocks the medium rocks. Left at the green bush then right at the grey bush. Climb some rocks to more rocks & shimmy down a rock & we'll be in the Hall of Horrors. Gotcha 🙄🥺🥴🤪🤭😉🤗. It's like getting directions from people in North Carolina. Go to the corner with 2 churches & take a left at the big oak tree & then a right after the house where a dog will try & bite your tires. Go down to the faded red barn & then a left at the light.
Wonder if pareidolia has anything to with why it's called Hall of Horrors?
Thanks again for your determination & going back to take us through the Hall of Horrors.
I was trying to convey the sense of confusion and distraction I was experiencing in the moment. Sounds like I did a good job! Lol. 🤣😂😅
Ahhh speaking of which I forgot to put in the infamous Left at Albuquerque @@CactusAtlas. I can only imagine how you were feeling after driving that far & trying to figure out what the other people's directions were. Like I said Thanks for being So Dedicated to figure it out for us.
This is where Gram Parsons was illegally buried, then dug up and moved.
You are 100% wrong. He was almost cremated at Cap Rock. You can access the spot from the main crossroad. Look for the engineering pin and you’re in the right area. Us locals know exactly where it is.
