Fun vid! JTNP is one of my fave places. A heads-up - jumping cholla is a distinct species from the teddy bear cholla you see here that has much bigger barbs. You can find jumping cholla throughout the park. It is so named because clusters of its needles break off and drift in the wind. They can be tough to see but easy to feel like when a needle pierces the side of your shoe (she said, wincing!).
Great video. Joshua Tree is amazing. It was pretty interesting to see the empty campsites. It seems like every time we head through its packed and no camp spots available.
I guess that's the advantage of going to places when it is off-season. Low crowds! The disadvantage is dealing with uncomfortable temps. I've no doubt Joshua Tree gets very crowded with campers. It's a lovely place and the sites look great. One day! 😄

Thanks for the video. Those were some really cool looking campsites. I love how it's enclosed with rocks for privacy. You don't see that often and I'd love to spend a few nights at that spot.

Thanks for sharing...one of my favorite parks. Lots of ancient pictographs & petroglyphs all throughout the park. 4,000. - 6,000 years old. Most of them unpublished & the park rangers won’t tell you about them (too many idiots vandalize these priceless artifacts). Some of them pretty easy to get to & near areas that people frequent, but others are well off the beaten trail and much harder to find.
I've driven through there a few times but have not done many of the trails. Those baby Cholla do jump and will get you when the wind picks up. ;) If you have the NPS App you can download park info and maps to access later. Thanks for taking us along, glad you avoided some of the crowds.
It would be cool that if the US government ask us where we had a choice of where 10 % of our federal taxes would go to, how many people would write in to keep the National Parks or even create more National Parks!

Ah, yes! The Hall of Horrors! I actually just finished editing that one this week. That one will be released closer to Halloween. 😄🎃 And that skull is so odd, isn't it? Haha!

What we were told was that the change to black is a natural process. Didn't really get the details if it is old growth or not but it apparently isn't because of a fire (which was our first thought).

Doc told me after Unwanted spinal taps from epidermal steroid shots that when travelling through mountains take an aspirin & keep a bag of UNOPENED chips, when the bag looks like it's getting bigger get ready for headaches to start soon or get to lower elevations Fast@@CactusAtlas . Gotta love changes in air pressure
Sadly very easy to miss things when you only have a super limited amount of time. 😔 That's unfortunately how a lot of our trips go. Lots of filming, multiple destinations, and many videos to create in a short amount of time between days spent at a day job.

Oh, yeah. Jumping cholla is no joke. Any plant with those very fine needles are no joke. Like you said... can't see them, but sure can feel them. 😱
