I'd say 3-6 months depending on how much chipboard you cut (it can also be used to cut other things) - but the blade goes on sale fairly often. In fact it is on sale on both cricut and Amazon right now! :) amzn.to/33O6UDy

Can you use the Cricut chipboard sheets with only the Cricut Maker? I have the Explorer 2 but, I would like to cut chipboard what can I use? What are the steps to cutting chipboard on the Explorer 2 and, what materials do you need?
Unfortunately you can't cut Cricut chipboard with the Explore 2 because the knife blade only works in the Maker. You CAN cut thin "cardboard" (like the thickness of cereal boxes) on your Explore 2 though - look for the material choices when you are ready to cut and that will give you your settings.
Hi Viridiana - I would just attach it to whatever surface I was going to put it on...so for example if this was going on a wood sign I'd just adhere it right to the sign. If you are talking about something "free standing" like a cake topper you'd want to adjust the font in Design Space before you cut so the circle on the i was "welded" to the rest of the i - if that makes sense?

You can! Cricut suggests not cutting anything from chipboard that is smaller than the width of a pencil - so it would depend on how intricate the letters are, but you can for sure cut 2".
Thank you so much for this video. I was trying to find info on chipboard and came across your video. I really appreciate you taking the time to post this tutorial.
Hi... Just viewed your video on cutting chipboard using the Cricut Maker. I'm aware your video is 3 years old, but would like to ask if you know How well will the Cricut Marker cut Styrene? Thank you for your informative video.

Hi thankd for the demo... can I ask, whilst this clearly cuts smooth curves, will it also cut accurate angles, eg a zigzag or step pattern? Thanks in advance.
I found it cut angles just as well - when the blade cuts straight lines it comes all the way out of the material and rotates...which gives it a cleaner cut at the corners. Hope that helps!
Hi Michelle! You could do it on your Explore with thinner cardboard (like the thickness of a cereal box) and the deep cut blade - but for this thick chipboard you'd need the Maker. Hope that helps!

How thick is the chipboard? and other type of materials like vinyl, textile, cardboard etc.., what is the maximum thickness does the cricut air can cut?.
I'm so sorry Rocky! For some reason my notifications were off. This is the Cricut Maker - not the Cricut Explore Air. With the air you are limited to just the fine point blade and the deep point blade. Hope that helps!

Hi VeenaM! I've never had an issue with gunk on my blade, but if you get some on it undu or goo-gone would work great. I use that on my scissors all the time! Hope that helps!
It cuts cereal board really easily - if that is the kind of packaging you mean? You can also cut cereal board with the older Cricut (it is called the Explore Air) and their deep cut blade.
I have a question but it is no regarding the chipboard. I just bought a new cricut maker and want to make a big wood sign that says home. How can I get the fonts to be big? Also I do have a 12 by 24 mat, do i need to buy vinyl as big as my mat?
Hi Lucy! You will need a 12x24 mat to do big words. If you are using vinyl you can make the letters up to about 11 1/2" tall - it doesn't do full 12" because it needs a little room on each edge.
Hello, good afternoon, I wanted to ask you if you could take a large image in the woods that you are using but the image in 5 or 6 woods? that cut a part of the selected drawing in each wood? thank you very much
Hi! Do you mean (for example) cutting an image that is 20"x30" and just cutting it in 10" sections then adhering it together? If I am understanding correctly - yes you can! :)
Hi .. love the demo.. What font did you use? I always have trouble choosing the correct script font. Sometimes it doesn't work too well if the font is smaller or very intricate.
Awesome video! Can you do let’s say the cut out in parts so it’s bigger than 11 inches or is 11 inches really the biggest size or can you play around it?
Thanks Jessica! The 11" is really the biggest size - but depending on what you are going to do with the chipboard you could adhere them to each other and cut bigger images in "parts" - if that makes sense? The general term is "off the mat" - here is a video that talks about doing it for vinyl but you could also do it for chipboard. It would just be tricky to adhere the pieces together! :) heyletsmakestuff.com/cricut-project-bigger-than-the-mat/
Question: so you use a certain blade or knife depending on the materials You’re using? For instance knife for fabric, knife for acetate sheets something like that?
I'm so sorry Liz for some reason I didn't get this notification! There are only a few different types of blades - the knife blade is for very thick objects and then the blade that comes with the machine does almost every other type of material. The difference is in the setting when you are the software (Design Space). You select what type of material you are cutting and the machine adjusts before it starts cutting. Hope that helps!
I'm so sorry I didn't see this until now! Cricut cuts items up to 3/32" - I couldn't find anything online that would equate that to 300 gram cardstock. The great thing about using the knife blade is you can continue to make cuts until it cuts all the way through - so if your cardstock is thicker than whatever setting you select you haven't wasted it - if that makes sense?
Is it the Deep Cut blade? The Knife Blade was only made for the Maker - so if it is a Knife Blade then yes! :) If it is the Deep Cut Blade you can use it for the Maker but it won't cut the wood. :(
it sure can! here is some info from the Cricut website about settings for each machine: help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009373314-Corrugated-Cardboard-Set-Cutting-instructions
I tried cutting the 2 mm chipboard and according to Design space it needed 24 passes, but it cut right through my mat. Have you ever come across that problem?
@@darranedmundson1505 I think 24 passes was too many. I tried cutting another piece and it cut through the chipboard and not my mat after 12 passes. Maybe it depends on the machine?
I have! I find that depending on how intricate the pattern/image is it doesn't need as many passes. I usually check about halfway through then keep an eye on it if it looks like it is close to being finished. I frequently just cancel the cut with a few passes remaining because it has already cut all the way through the chipboard! Hope that helps!
@@TheKingstonHome yes it does thanks! I was only cutting square so super simple images. I'll have to keep an eye on it if I decide to cut more complex ones.
you can cut thinner chipboard (like the thickness of a cereal box) with your air 2 and the deep cut blade...but for this thick Cricut chipboard it only works with the Maker and the knife blade. Hope that helps!
Hi Cindy! I made an oversized Christmas sign using vinyl - I'm thinking the same would work for you? Just cut a board to the size you want and then cut out the letters in vinyl. Here is my project - this was over 3' long. kingstoncrafts.com/blog/wooden-christmas-sign-with-cricut-maker/
Thank you for the lovely video! I haven’t experimented too much with my maker yet but this makes me really want to! I don’t have chipboard but I do have cardboard- I see practice in my future! Lol.
I'm so sorry for the delay - I'm not getting YT notifications for some reason! For larger images I do two layers and mirror them so the "splice" is in a different place, then adhere them together. I did it for the chipboard portion of this sign - hopefully that helps!! thekingstonhome.com/blog/wooden-christmas-sign-with-cricut-maker/
Hi Joseph! Hope I'm understanding your question - Cricut only makes 11x11 chipboard. If you can find larger sheets of other branded chipboard you could absolutely try it - you'd just have to play around with the number of passes to see how long it would take to cut it all the way through.
oh Janice I am so sorry - this notification went in to my spam! We have something called MDF here in the US that I think is the same material you are referring and it is MUCH thicker than chipboard. Chipboard is like a very thick cereal box material...if that makes any sense?
nice! Thanks for showing this - I'm impressed that their knife and the machine can handle 2mm thickness, which is "E-Flute" in corrugated cardboard, our USCutter model can only handle 1mm, I'm so jeally!
Could you put a sheet of colorful vinyl on top of the chip board so it cuts through both at the same time, saving a step to decorate the letters after they are cut out?
The Maker can cut 2.0mm dense chipboard, balsa/bass wood, leather, etc so I am guessing it would cut regular cardboard as well? I have never tried it though - sorry I can't give you more info!
Hi Andy - the knife blade (what I'm using in the video) is made exclusively for the Maker machine and won't work in the Explore machines. You can cut thinner chipboard (like a cereal box) on the explore machines with the deep cut blade. Hope that helps!

I use Beacon Zip dry...but you have to be quick!! It dries fast! :)
I have a Cricut maker 3 I hope I don’t have to babysit this machine as it cuts
Question: so you use a certain blade or knife depending on the materials
You’re using? For instance knife for fabric, knife for acetate sheets something like that?
I'm so sorry Liz for some reason I didn't get this notification! There are only a few different types of blades - the knife blade is for very thick objects and then the blade that comes with the machine does almost every other type of material. The difference is in the setting when you are the software (Design Space). You select what type of material you are cutting and the machine adjusts before it starts cutting. Hope that helps!
Kingston Crafts no worries. Thank you.
Hi Beth. How many passes would you need for cutting 300 gram cardstock?
I'm so sorry I didn't see this until now! Cricut cuts items up to 3/32" - I couldn't find anything online that would equate that to 300 gram cardstock. The great thing about using the knife blade is you can continue to make cuts until it cuts all the way through - so if your cardstock is thicker than whatever setting you select you haven't wasted it - if that makes sense?
I have the black knife blade for explorer . Will that cut wood in my maker?
Is it the Deep Cut blade? The Knife Blade was only made for the Maker - so if it is a Knife Blade then yes! :) If it is the Deep Cut Blade you can use it for the Maker but it won't cut the wood. :(
Which website do you use??
Can I use this for 3.2 mm ya 5mm MDF wooden sheets
it cuts up to 3/32" so that would be 2.38 mm - sounds like your MDF would be too thick.
I just got my maker 3 yesterday and it won’t cut the chipboard. Any tips?
Hi Christine! Sorry for the delay...for some reason I'm not getting notifications. Are you using the Knife Blade?
Can it also cut corrugated cardboard?
it sure can! here is some info from the Cricut website about settings for each machine: help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009373314-Corrugated-Cardboard-Set-Cutting-instructions
I tried cutting the 2 mm chipboard and according to Design space it needed 24 passes, but it cut right through my mat. Have you ever come across that problem?
Anika, if you discover the reason for this, could you please post a follow-up note? I'm sitting here with a Maker and some 2mm chipboard ...
@@anikaf784 oh good!!! have a good weekend!
Hi! Helpful video. What thickness of chipboard is this?
Can his cut designs like pictures?
Hi Thelma - you would have to change the image to a dxf, svg or similar file to cut, but yes you can!
I have a explorer air 2 will this work ?
you can cut thinner chipboard (like the thickness of a cereal box) with your air 2 and the deep cut blade...but for this thick Cricut chipboard it only works with the Maker and the knife blade. Hope that helps!
Question for you if l wanted to make a long sign for above door that read Fellowship Hall ....what would be the best way to do that?
Lol.
oh yay Morgan!! You are going to love it!

Hi! How would you suggest that I do this but for a larger word or name? Glue the pieces together after being cut?
I'm so sorry for the delay - I'm not getting YT notifications for some reason! For larger images I do two layers and mirror them so the "splice" is in a different place, then adhere them together. I did it for the chipboard portion of this sign - hopefully that helps!! thekingstonhome.com/blog/wooden-christmas-sign-with-cricut-maker/
Can you pass it through to make whole words or phrases with a larger board?
Hi Joseph! Hope I'm understanding your question - Cricut only makes 11x11 chipboard. If you can find larger sheets of other branded chipboard you could absolutely try it - you'd just have to play around with the number of passes to see how long it would take to cut it all the way through.
Is that paper or wood type ?
Can you try to see if toy can use amazon boxes as material?
My friend Angie has done it - here you go! ua-cam.com/video/QMEvMXPCNrI/v-deo.html
Hi - in America is Chipboard what we in the UK call: MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard?)
oh Janice I am so sorry - this notification went in to my spam! We have something called MDF here in the US that I think is the same material you are referring and it is MUCH thicker than chipboard. Chipboard is like a very thick cereal box material...if that makes any sense?
nice! Thanks for showing this - I'm impressed that their knife and the machine can handle 2mm thickness, which is "E-Flute" in corrugated cardboard, our USCutter model can only handle 1mm, I'm so jeally!
thanks so much - it is really a fun machine!
Could you put a sheet of colorful vinyl on top of the chip board so it cuts through both at the same time, saving a step to decorate the letters after they are cut out?
You absolutely could! I have create puzzles by adhering the photo on top of the chipboard before I cut it. Makes things much easier!
Can you tell me if this machine can cut through industrial carton? Like the one of regular boxes?
The Maker can cut 2.0mm dense chipboard, balsa/bass wood, leather, etc so I am guessing it would cut regular cardboard as well? I have never tried it though - sorry I can't give you more info!
I asked some of my other Cricut folks and got this video - hope it helps! ua-cam.com/video/QMEvMXPCNrI/v-deo.html
Can we spray paint it in gold?
The Cricut machine? Nope. But the chipboard? Heck yes! :) Do it after you cut it though - not before.
I love your video thank you so much for the information. one question though can you tell me what font it is that you have used? Thank you in advance
thanks so much! It is lilybelle from dafont - here you go! www.dafont.com/lillybelle.font

Can this be done with the explorer air 2? Does it need an special blade or knife?
Hi Andy - the knife blade (what I'm using in the video) is made exclusively for the Maker machine and won't work in the Explore machines. You can cut thinner chipboard (like a cereal box) on the explore machines with the deep cut blade. Hope that helps!
😰 ohhhh that’s sad I just bought my explorer... I wish I knew this before... thanks 👍🏻
Can you use the knife blade with the Explore Air to cut chipboard?
Hi Melva! The Knife Blade is made just for the Maker...the Explore machines don't have enough force to cut the thicker materials.
good morning from down under
so yes im a new bee
for my first project
im need to design my honey sampler set cardboard 7x hexagon all conected but yep im haveing a melt down allready any hints
Hi Justine - I'm so sorry...for some reason I'm not getting notifications! :( I'm sorry I'm not understanding the question - are you having an issue with a specific project in design space that isn't all cutting out together?
