Very good presentation. Lots of good information. Wow, there are so many books about degrowth these days, it shows how obvious and important it is to move to a post-capitalist, degrowth, solidarity type economy sooner rather than later. I truly believe we have academic, working class and some upper class support but our voice is muted by the rapacious oligarchs who own the mainstream media, politicians and major corporations. We have to improve our communication, organization, activation and collaboration. That's what I hope to do. I'd love to talk more, because your list of strategies I think are good, but I see some challenges with them, because many of them ask for petitioning government to do things that we can't really control, especially if we have small numbers. Also, many municipalities are broke. Mine is. I know from someone on the inside that they have no money to fund things, they could give out some free or cheap properties, but they can't fund a Repair Shop. And to ask them to tax businesses that use plastic would cause more uproar than is helpful without an alternative. Demanding tax on plastics and planned obsolescence is still a good goal, but the community needs a strong mutual aid network and NFP worker co-operative established to give the people a viable alternative instead of just banning their current practice and asking them to find an alternative. I think with a few tweaks in direction there could be a simple platform that could help any community get on the right path towards Degrowth. I'd love to talk more about this. Thanks for all the work you've put into this, clearly lots has gone into it, and that is appreciated. I'm still going through a lot of it.
@coolioso808 See here even more resources: degrowth.net/resources/the-degrowth-database/ The IDN is working hard on the most effective and fair strategies.
GDP: Grossly Distorted Propaganda NDP: Not Done Properly What happened to the depreciation of durable consumer in the Net Domestic Product equation? What do economists say about planned obsolescence? What do climate scientists say about CO2 resulting from unnecessary manufacturing due to planned obsolescence? Double entry accounting is 700 years old. It could have been mandatory in the schools since Sputnik. Wouldn't everyone have noticed consumer depreciation?
This helped me out so much with preparing my degrowth workshop.
Thanks so much
