[Important not to confuse energy with power. Energy is a scalar, which in physics is a quantity described only by its magnitude. Examples: volume, mass, density, time, speed are scalars. Power measures energy per unit of time, therefore it is a rate, which is a measurement of change, usually per time. That is why the correct way to say is, a power station with an installed power of 1000 megawatts means it generates 1 million watts in one hour, or 3.6 trillion joules in one hour. Very informative! 👍
Hey Vlad have you ever talked about hempcrete yet?
@@ryanosterman2651 Not yet. I don’t know enough about the physics and energy lifecycle behind hempcrete.
According to the European Commission, consumption per capita in Romania was 70 GJ per capita in 2022, an 18 GJ consumption would mean a reduction of 3.89, or rounded to about 4. Given the recent development in Romania I doubt the people would accept that. Far-right elements are rising, for example EU Made Simple, had recently had a video about Diana Sosoaca's meltdown in the European Parliament. I agree with most of what is said here, we need better options, but I think other approaches are also needed. I have no idea what they might be, but I just wanted to point this out!
Whether people accept or reject, it’s another matter. The overshoot of planetary boundaries applies to all humans, however in different degrees.
@@VladBunea Do you have any insight why the far-right is resurging in Europe and America? Immigration, inflation, falling quality of life or an combination? The irish economist David McWilliams said in his podcast /episode "A climate warning from the past" that changing temperatures in medieval Europe had lead to wars, could this be an climate change unseen reaction ?
The solution is nuclear... but it will never be done right because capitalism won't allow it. It requires proper design for safety(there has to be many layers of redundancy and safe failing) which reduces profit.
You have right, state is essential in long term development and safe regulation.
Nuclear is part of the solution. The other two thirds should come from solar and wind power. Really solar and wind power should be the main source of power.
@@tobywindgassen8427 Um, no.
You seem not to understand how numbers work. Would you rather have 4 million dollars or 25 dollars?
You can't wish the world worked a certain way just because you want to. That is why it is so screwed up as it is.
Nuclear is the only way to go. It is the most safe, efficient, and energy dense thing we have by orders of magnitude. It would solve all our energy needs if done right.
Solar could be done only for homes and small battery operated things like lights. But to run cities on solar or wind farms is moronic.
Nuclear is already safe
@@davidwestwater2219 Um, no it is not. We've had nearly 4 meltdowns because of psychopaths like yourself that think as long as they are making $$$ anything is safe.
