No other singer that I know of can ride along with an awesome orchestra and literally turn her voice into an entire orchestra even down to the drum rolls. What an amazing gift that God had blessed her with.
Ella had such a great talent. Nobody could scat like her. I am always in awe of her. To this day, she amazes and inspires me. Thanks so much for posting this.
Look at everyone standing to give them a well-deserved standing ovation. I regret the fact that we won't be able to experience these kinds of music and crowds anymore.
I used to selfishly wish this was just a couple clips faster because I love when she swings this at breakneck speed, but it is now my favorite because Basie set it up so CLEAN and she SWUNG it and that modulation takes me out every time!!!
Oh my good, I have longing to hear this version for over 30 years! it's still my favorite of Ella's renditions all this while. Many many thanks for posting!
I think the logo on the upper right hand corner is from a chanel in Sweden...didn't know they aired that there. It was originally on NBC as part as a Timex Special.
I mean this in the most respectful way...She is OLD here and out singing most people1/3 her age here...I mean NOW half the age she is HERE...Go head Ella. Repeat.
She was about 55 here...so if you consider that old I guess so. She sang pretty well up until the late 1970's, but her voice declined pretty sharply after that (along with her health).
@@direfranchement Oh yes. I just meant relatively. Lol. She had almost 40 years in the game here. I love her ENTIRE body of work from Day 1 with Webb to her last recorded appearance. I really meant "old" in terms of what Pop now considers "old" because this 50 Something Ella is outsinging ALL of these "young and hot" "singers"...Even when her vibratto got way wider in her last era she was STILL outsinging most singers. She understood what singing really is: playing the voice. ✊#loveher
You mean when she refereces "Tisket" in the scat of Lady Be Good? That's on the original studio version she recorded on the Gershwin Songbook I think. "Tisket A Tasket...I lost my yellow basket...bop with ya baby big boy...bop with ya baby big boy"....that's on the original. But you've probably found that out by now...LOL.
Her bop vocabulary is SICKENING for a vocalist!!! Genius...

Listen...not ONE of todays "singers" could stand a MINUTE of Ella Fitzgerald.
TheJazzStreet, DO YOU HAVE ANY MORE OF THIS PERFORMANCE? IF SO PLEASR POST PLEASE THANKS! :-)
What year is this? Ella looks healthier here than in most of her later performances. Is this early 70's?
I'd love to know when this video was taken; please post it if you knokw.
Hey, bit of a late comer to this video lol. But does anyone know of the version where she sings nursery rhymes as part of her scat?
