Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie Orchestra - After You've Gone

- Norman Granz is one of the most important non-musicians in the history of jazz and no one has made a greater contribution to the staging, recording and filming of jazz concerts. This series of performances that made Montreux Jazz Festival famous and previously released on DVD by Laser Swing Productions, will now be available on our UA-cam channel. The concert of Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie Orchestra is the perfect example of how to swing. The ideal combination of Ella Fitzgerald, at the height of her powers in 1979, with the Count Basie Orchestra and then accompanied by the great man himself, leads to a sublime evening with versions of such Ella classics as Flying Home and A-tisket, A-tasket.
This might sound crazy but I've been listening to Ella since I was a kid (I'm almost 32) but I never knew there was color footage of her lmao
Now won't you listen honey, while I say,
How could you tell me that you're goin' away?
Don't say that we must part,
Don't break your baby's heart
You know I've loved you for these many years,
Loved you night and day,
Oh! honey baby, can't you see my tears?
Listen while I say
After you've gone and left me cryin'
After you've gone there's no denyin'
You'll feel blue, you'll feel sad
You'll miss the dearest pal you've ever had
There'll come a time, now don't forget it
There'll come a time when you'll regret it
Someday, when you grow lonely
Your heart will break like mine and you'll want me only
After you've gone, after you've gone away
After you've gone and left me cryin'
After you've gone there's no denyin'
You're gonna feel blue, and you're gonna feel sad
You're gonna feel bad
And you'll miss, and you'll miss,
And you'll miss the bestest pal you ever had
There'll come a time, now don't forget it
There'll come a time when you'll regret it
But baby, think what you're doin'
I'm gonna haunt you so, I'm gonna taunt you so
It's gonna drive you to ruin
After you've gone, after you've gone away.
The incomparable Ella, the peerless Basie and the grooviest swing orchestra ever. Perfection.

Never any better! Ella was the first lady of Jazz! To this day there in nobody, in my opinion, who can belt out a song like this beautiful songstress! Miss her!
The lady of Jazz 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
There's no Talent like this anywhere these days
Don’t know where this was filmed, but I was privileged to see Ella and the Count Basie Orchestra at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis. I was either a sophomore or junior at Washington U there. A couple of friends and I tanked our meager resources to get to hear the greatest lady of jazz and Basie’s stupendous orchestra - more than 50 years later, the memory and thrills are strong. We sat up close - only seats we could get - and I noticed Ella’s glasses. Her diabetes was getting the best of her, but her singing was never better. What a consummate moment to hear Ella Fitzgerald live!
That was Montreax where it was recorded. Love me some Ella
That belt at 3:06 is simply nuclear. Absolutely brilliant as always.
I was enough lucky in my life to see Ella 4 times!

This arrangement is from Ella's 1962 album. "Rhythm is My Business." It is also a big band album, conducted by organist Bill Doggett.
Do you know where is possible to find this arrangement? Thank you
@@unaparolaalgiorno6842 ejazzlines published it, but they often make mistakes. they do provide a sample of the manuscript tho
Brilliant
A treasure that America where’s it was created don’t seem to appreciate or understand.
