- Writer-director Charlotte Zwerin's documentary on jazz vocal icon Ella Fitzgerald was originally produced for Public Television's American Masters series. The 1999 film, narrated by Tony Bennett, shocases the "First Lady of Song" through archival footage of early performances and television appearances.
There is just something so chilling and impactful about her unique, enigmatic voice. It is something that is beyond us as humans.
Hello from Paris/France. Many many thanks for sharing this program with us...!!! I just idolize Miss Ella Fitzgerarld. She was/is/will-be the best of the best for ever...!!!
What is so enchanting about her voice, as she moves her lips, they barely move and out comes this extraordinary voice....
This Was My Mom And Dad's Era! RIP Ella, Mom, Dad 7/19/13.
Singularly gorgeous bio. I own this one, and am flabbergasted at all the wonderful footage from all of Ms. Ella's TV appearances over 40 years. Thank you for showing this one.
Ella...vocal perfection! My grandmother loves her music, and I have come to love it too!
Her voice is unmatched. 🥰
Dear Ella: in the dictionary under the definition of "greatness"...,they should put your picture!
Ella is the greatest of them all!
Ella's my favourite jazz singer (and one of my fav artists of all time) :)
I love Ella. Such a beautiful Voice! A true jazz legend.
SHE'S THE BEST , even people who say they dont like jazz like Ella.
Oh Ella. You are unmatchable. Thank you..
So many great voices from the Jazz era, but Ella was the greatest of them all.
Great documentary! Congratulations for releasing such a video for fans like me.
"Amongst all of us who sing, she was the best." Still true. If a cathedral bell had vocal chords, it would try to sing like Ella.
Today I had an English Comprehension exam and it was about Ella Fitzgerald. At first I thought the story is fake cuz everything sounded so amazing
People who hit thumbs down clearly have no clue of Ella's genius...SMH
Holy God. Loverman is A masterclass, she was a natural vocal genius .
Ella is amazing!!! One of my favorites!!
Thank you so much for this, i love her voice so much
thank you so mutch for that!!!!
I really like her voice as a young lady!
Thank you for posting!
Thank you for posting this wonderful documentary.

Incredibly awesome❤
Her voice was so beautiful
Beautiful voice!!!
One of the VERY BEST singers of all time....beautiful without the need for anything...wow
What an amazing gift God gave her. Out of the ashes came a jewel.
Pure velvet voice.
My favorites are: Whitney Houston, Judy Garland and Ella
Heart dropped soon as they said ella
That's right- she's in the back of the bus. A sad and unacceptable standard in today's society, but that's the way it was back then. Universal simply couldn't do it otherwise.
Same with other phenomenal artists.Check out the Nicholas Brothers dance routines along with Glenn Miller and see how their unbelievable dance routines had to unfortunately be edited out when the films were shown in southern states: ua-cam.com/video/kIQq1j1-AQU/v-deo.html
Unica e incomparable Ella Fitzgerald !!! Puro Jazz !!!
This documentary is awesome, I want to ask you if i could sub this biography in spanish language, it would be a great; i´ll do it only if you allow me.

Part 6??????????????
Who is the first man in the video? Pls share the name. I liked so much his voice
I LOVE ELLA FITZGERALD AND IM 17
@ajames95: Well, Ella was a notoriously private person, and she often left a lot of her creative decisions to others. I doubt she had any interest in being anything other than a world-beloved singer--which she was in spades.
I don't even have time for the one moron who accidentally gave this a thumbs down. Obviously hearing impaired or a Parkinson's patient having trouble with the mouse, because this was one of the Best American Masters ever.
Because Ella is one of the Best American Masters ever. I think she is without doubt the most capable, beautiful, effective and inventive singer we have seen outside of opera, even then!! Simply put, these guys got it right, she is the best, unlikely to be topped. One day..
Mr mahlerman don't make fun of parkinsons disease
MrMahlerman hahahaha!A Parkinson patient with an impaired mouse.
🤣😂🤣
Musical ecstasy @ 5:00!!
Hehehehe that dacing at 6:24 was funny. :)
That's called Lindy Hop and it is awesome.
yees
Well considering that we did a huge part in building the music industry, I would say America giveth and America taketh away!
...one day she'll come along, another Ella, when it's time for reincarnation of the human voice. Maybe it's happening now. To have someone as gifted and inventive and capable of such a stunning range... so musically gifted and interested and intuitive... It's something to live for.
Adele has a real gift, a young one. A natural talent. Would love to see someone like a Norman Granz add to her talent, because like Karen Carpenter, from a different perspective, she may have the gift.
I type this in hope of finding with out knowing it existed. There is a god
TRUE...AND FALSE IT ALSO HELPED THE MUSIC INDUSTRY...
@aubrey1015 your crazy he sounds good,,have respect

Mariah Carey and ella Fitzgerald. Greatest woman singers ever
Whoever put this Bio together didn't choose any clips that showcase her true singing ability & interpretive skill. Good thing I know better...
