EMT’s dad calls for suicide awareness: ‘Get them some help’

- A father is urging people to educate themselves about mental health and reach out to help others after his daughter, a Grand Rapids EMT, died by suicide earlier this month. (June 27, 2023)

Sad situation. Tragic.
What people fail to understand is that EMS is often the "red-headed stepchild" of public safety. EMS does not receive nearly enough support and recognition as law enforcement, and most times, firefighters. EMTs and Paramedics are simply seen as "ambulance drivers" by the general public. You wouldn't call a police officer a "police car driver", would you? EMS personnel are exposed to many of the same horrific scenes as other public safety professionals and provide life-saving care. EMS is one of the lowest-paid healthcare professions still to this day. May this woman rest in peace.

We need to overcome the shame around asking for help. So many people experience suicidal thoughts at some point in life. Books like "30 Days to Overcome Suicidal Thoughts" by Harper Daniels and other books and programs can help. Let's check up on our family and neighbors often, just let them know we're there if needed.

Seek out Jesus in prayer. He loves you and will take away all the pain and sadness. I know how heavy it is, i fought depression for years unsucessfully.. medications nor therapy don't help because depression is spiritual and you can't fight it off with physical treatments. When i came to Christ He lifted off all the heaviness and not just that but gave me peace and hapiness which i never felt in my life. True peace and true hapiness, also otherwordly warmth of pure love. Since then i never felt suicidal again and depression didn't came back. So in order to be free you have to understand depression as it is - spiritual battle. And that battle we can't fight with our own physical weapons and strenght. We need Jesus who will fight it off for us, just let him do it. Make a first step reach out to Him and accept Him into your heart. He will set you free and give you joy peace and love ❤ God bless you and protect you, know that you are precious and do not give up on yourself ❤
You wont see darkness , you wont feel anything. There is nothing after. You just not existing, wich is comforting for me atleast.
