You’re correct, the cop did lie. Plus he sounds like a complete doofus. Spouting all this crap about the “constitution“ was completely laughable. Constitution has nothing to do with that. Make you a warm mug of milo. The nurses are great and will settle you in”. The nurse should have said “hey darling, welcome. You’re safe now. Are you cold? Do you want a blanket? A warm drink? Have you eaten?”. Instead. He got this. Yes we need to focus on the individual police & nurse. But please investigate the hell out of the systemic failures which transpired here. My son has been to a mental facility and has never been in trouble for anything and is the quietest kindest kid. Not that “bad” kids deserve less but there is a difference. 😢
Sadly, most cops in the US have virtually no mental health training, same with other disabilities/differences, especially developmental disabilities and intellectual disabilities. Although, one would think much of this would just be basic common sense and human decency.
Ditto. And they wonder why are prisons are over housed. In the words of Barney Pfife, "Ya got to nip it, nip it in the bud ". Help them and prevent it rather than punish them after the damage is done.
There is something sickening to me about that kid being taken to this place, they rejecting him, then the cop abandoning him. Not knowing the issue so far I just want to reach out and take the kid in my arms.
Imagine it! Forcibly removed from his home through a legal order… Denied entry… Witnessing two adults arguing, not wanting to have to deal with you… Abandoned outside…
I am stunned as well as appalled that this officer would just drive off and leave a vulnerable teenager to fend for himself. My heart goes out to the teenager.
I'm also stunned at the amount of people agreeing with and defending his actions!!! Like how do you not understand that if you took your child or any minor in your care to a mental facility and this happened and you also chose to leave the child behind that you would be in cuffs in by the end of the day charged with child abandonment and neglect and probably all types of other charges endangering the welfare of a child, abuse, etc!!! This child was under his care and he was responsible for him until another adult waived him of it and willingly took responsibility!!! That paperwork that needed to be signed that his superior asked about which by his tone and response makes it seem like he's lying about getting signed was in my opinion the paperwork of him relinquishing his responsibility and yeah he signed them but no one else did, they also should have been signed by a staff member!!!
He actually didn't. He didn't go too far before he called his superior to advise him of what happened, and immediately returned when told to by his superior, so that the transfer could be made... by FORCING the mental health professional who was supposed to intake him to do her job. She obviously had an attitude when he came back to have her speak to his superior, so that his superior could rake her over the coals, because she came out, took one look, and turned immediately around without one word to him.
@@FrankiWhite730 He was transporting the child to the facility. The facility was supposed to intake the child. He sounds like he may be new and may not know procedure, as this doesn't happen to the majority.
For those who want an update: internal affairs did an investigation and concluded the officer "acted in good faith" the officer also claimed that he only got in his car and drove out of sight from front door, but he never actually left the premises so he didn't "technically" abandon child. I could not find any information on the child or their current wellbeing, only that they were 16 at the time of this video. Because they were a minor, their identity was not made public.
What she did was completely wrong. But as a parent of a child with complex behavioral issues, I can totally see how people can get to where they feel like they have no other choice. Pediatric mental health is GROSSLY underfunded and parents are left in situations with mentally ill children that sometimes are a threat to the entire family and there’s just no help available. Imagine being told that if you “drop off” your violent child who has been making threats against siblings and parents, you’ll be charged with child abandonment. At the same time, if that child for whom you can get no help, hurts any of his/her siblings, you will lose custody of the other children for not providing them a safe environment. If happens, every day, in the US.
Update: I rewatched the beginning of the video. #1 If any parent would have done this, that cop would have been called to arrest them for abandonment. #2 It can take days or even a week for a bed to open up. Then you need to make sure it is the right one. Not a literal bed but a place in the program, a.k.a. a bed. These aren't shelters where you stick people for the night where ever you can fit them. Some have them by gender or age or issue. A chair in a waiting room is NOT an option. #3 Even here we have to go through the ER. All states have that process as far as I am aware. Last time we did so we were in the room with another juvenile who had been brought there by cops and was waiting (by herself) till a bed opened up somewhere. They are not taken straight to a facility. There are evaluations, paperwork, tests. ‐------------------------ I am in tears watching this video. @Clairez EXACTLY! Have been in that situation. Bought back all the super hard feelings of the first time we had to use short term residential. So many feelings of helplessness, lonliness, failure, wanting to hug the issues away but knowing more was needed, watching someone take your baby away and not being able to go as well. Currently still looking for help. Have been warned of "you will be charged with Child Abandonment if you do/not do xyz" while literally was asking for help and doing a full-time job's worth of effort to find resources; more than "let's see what we can do to help as we are the professionals who work in this field and have contacts." If we don't find help then we risk getting in trouble for not keeping the other kids/people safe which would be child endangerment and we could be charged as well. D*mned if you do. D*mned if you don't. But no worries there are resources out there if you were to have asked. (That was sarcasm.) "Why didn't they get the kid help before this?!" No one wants to hear how help was actively being sought but they were turned away or denied or asked to pay thousands a DAY as insurance wouldn't cover it. Not many people can afford to buy a brand new car every month while still paying for last months brand new car and preparing to buy another new one next month.
What the actual F*CK?!?!? This is disgraceful! Absolutely disgraceful!!! As the mother of an adult son who has been suffering from schizophrenia for 21 years, since the age of 17, this makes me physically ill and so pissed off I can't see straight. I have had my fair share of dealing with police, the courts, and the mental health system in regard to my son's illness over the years, and I can tell you they are like all other human beings. There are good ones and there are bad ones. That he just drove off and left this kid there is unconscionable and beyond my comprehension. And then he lied! He had no idea if that boy was inside or not!
After watching this video I did some searching for news follow up and Virginia law and their practices with carrying out an emergency psychiatric evaluation order (called a TDO in VA). Couldn't find anything definitive, but seemed to say a physical health evaluation was required before admittance to a psychiatric hospital. In my many dealings with emergency evaluations (all in Maryland), most of them court ordered after filing a petition requesting them, the court order was given to the county police who then carried it out. He was always taken to the nearest hospital emergency room where he was checked physically with basic health evaluation, including urine sample to check for any drugs, and also by psychiatric personnel. They review his current mental state and the behavior reported that caused the judge to issue the emergency eval order. Then they would find where there was a bed available at a psychiatric facility and transfer him there. There were times there were NO beds available anywhere and he would stay at the ER until they can find one. Showing up directly at a psychiatric facility with a court order just wasn't done. And I wondered at the manner in which this order was carried out in this video, by just showing up at their door the way they did. Regardless, the officer should have never left ANYbody, let alone a juvenile, who was under a court ordered emergency eval standing outside the locked doors of a psychiatric facility. Period!
@Nightwatchman 58; I was gonna say the same thing. Those staff members were garbage. The cop guy went beyond the call of duty to lecture and tell the old lady worker that *THEY MUST FOLLOW the Court Order.**The stupid female worker's excuse was that they don't have enough people or proper managers to supervise. Unfortunately this mental health hospital's workplace policy suked badly since it's not the cops job to triage the kid. It was the mental health workers and once handed a *lawfully Court Order document* then it must be *ENFORCED PERIOD.**Hospital policies does not override the land of the law.**It's like having a McDonald's Manager telling a cop that the cop cannot arrest a bad McDonald's employee who just threw hot coffee at the cop due to cop hating.*The Cop legally will have the power to arrest the bad employee PERIOD.**Only difference between my example and the one in this video is that the Judge is the one calling the shots; not the cop or the mental health workers.* Mental health workers fked up.
@@coolgamers2794 OK. Lets say it's a prisoner transfer. The cop would still have a delivery order. He gets to the new facility and the Janitor comes to the door. He says, the intake officer is out at the moment, and he will have to wait. Should he leave the prisoner free at the door? Should he hand him over to the janitor? These people have a chain of custody. If a nurse is not trained or qualified by the institution to accept patients, then she is no different than the jailhouse janitor. Someone must be in custody of the minor at all times. He can't just put the kid in and leave even if he's inside the facility. He would still be the custodian of the kid until he is admitted.
@@dedwardskbd That is the stupidest example ever. No janitor are allowed to open the gates for prison transfer with exceptions of proper direction from guard staff. It's always other prison guards or contracted security officers who will be at the main gates to greet all people. Even if it was a janitor available; the janitor would have to call for a official to open the gates. There is no way any Prison will allow a bus full of convicts to idle freely so the prison guards aren't stupid with how these mental health workers handled this case. In the case for this cop; it was the *Judge* who supersedes the authority of both the cops and mental health worker. It don't matter if the mental health workers don't know how to do their job; they need to execute the *Judge's Order* or that is *obstruction of justice* and the mental health staffs can go to prison for it. The cop guy did his job and that was to deliver the order. Cop is done with his job once he phoned and showed the *Judges Order* to the hospital staff.
@@dedwardskbd are you suggesting that if there is not an intake officer at a prison then no other officer could take custody of or at least supervise a prisoner? So why isn't there anyone at such a large mental health facility that can take custody of or supervise this juvenile?

If the staff are violating a court order, the correct course is to arrest the staff member. The fact that this would probably involve lots of lawyers, the media, and mountains of paperwork is why this correct procedure was not followed. If you or I violated a court order, we would be in handcuffs.
The lady at the hospital was certainly not violating the court order in any way. The court order the policeman was waving around only covered the initial detention, supervision, transfer and 'handover of care' to the medical facility. The lady at the hospital clearly explained that she could not accept care of the patient on her own and that a colleague was coming in to assist. The child therefore remains in the policeman's legal care until the point at which the hospital accepts transfer of care from the policeman. As soon as the policeman removed himself from the child's care he was himself breaching the court order, committed dereliction of duty and is certain to face a disciplinary process. It would have been illegal for the lady to initially accept care of the child directly from him as she was unqualified to do so. However, as soon as the policeman decided to abandon the child and leave him unsupervised this allowed the lady to let the child enter the building at her own risk under hospital protocol. I hope this explanation makes sense - it is why the policeman is more likely to be in handcuffs and definitely not the lady at the hospital who acted appropriately throughout this incident. I have worked in both juvenile and adult Mental Health Services for many years dealing with compulsory and voluntary admissions and we usually try to use ambulance services for patient admissions as they know what they are doing.

@@maryreynolds8568 It's a medical facility. Their business hours are 24/7 just like a hospital. Mental health breakdowns and emergencies can't be timed to a 'better time' for staff. hey. it does. i've also been in these shoes, and it does get easier. not because you can always rely on other people to get what you're going through, but because you learn what to expect. you learn to read yourself. you learn how to help yourself, and who to reach out to if you can't. and as you get older, you're able to react differently. i understand if you're in pain - i am too. but let's not tell kids there's no hope. it's cruel and unhelpful. if someone told me when i was seventeen "it doesn't get easier," i would not be alive today. i would have given up. if you're feeling hopeless, please reach out to your local suicide hotline. the world is so full of so many beautiful things and you're one of them. the world would be worse without you in it.
Don't worry Jordan, it may help make it easier when you find your passion or even a hobby that redirects your attention when those feelings or bad thoughts come over you. I hope you continue to seek positive outlets 🙏🏾
Hey ♥️ I’m so sorry, for everything hiu endured & went through. I went into a facility at 23 & I’ve honestly never been so terrified in my entire life. I was extremely lucky to have a neighbour- who I hardly knew- that I was able to call..she took her day off work as a charge nurse to drive me there, check me in, get me settled- it was a 3 hour round trip for her. It was a time when I had _nobody_ I could call on. I’ll never forget her kindness. Actually, I’m going to write her a thank you letter, and take it out to her (I’ve since moved). She was instrumental in saving my life. The courage that you showed, that your trauma demanded of you to endure & survive 25 years ago, and thrive ever since, is more than what most people will ever show in their lifetimes. Never forget your absolute strength & resiliency, and your ability to pick up life’s pen at any moment & write your story as you dream it. I’m sending you love & healing.
@@ScoobyDoozy what a beautiful woman to help you in your time of need. I bet she will love a letter. I’m proud of your strength and compassion. I also had no one when I went in. Say there for weeks alone. All because my mother didn’t believe what her husband was doing to me. Until the detectives cut up my bedroom and got the rape kit results. Only then did she come and visit me with some lame letter about how she’s “sorry she didn’t believe me”. Nobody wanted to face the brutalities I had been living. All these years later I still don’t have a relationship w my “family”. But I have become a mother myself and love and protect my children the way I should’ve been. Thank you so much for your kind words. Thank you for connecting w me. You are an amazing warrior. Sending you so much love 💜💙
I'm completely stunned. Why did the officer drive away, instead of staying parked and watching over the young man at the very least? I hope he's ok, prayers for the young man. 🙏🏼
The officer told his superior that they came and got the young man, and picked up the court order he had slipped under the door. He had a COURT ORDER to deliver the young man to that address. He had no other option than take him there. You should listen to the conversation before vilifing the police officer.
@@leahjones8514 recently, the tv station updated this situation, the police dept investigated further. 'Vilify' is a strong word. I don't vilify anyone unless they deserve it. The officer stayed around the vicinity. The center was short-staffed, and it wasn't handled correctly. Regardless, it was stressful for the young man, period.
@@leahjones8514 He was also responsible for making sure he was secure before leaving him and he failed to do that! Don't make excuses for the bad seeds of law enforcement, Karen.
I'm surprised the officer thought it was ok to just leave him. He could've walked off and taken his own life. It's not like the officer had anything else to do. He should have put the child back in his car and made the call that he did.
After reading all the comments I watched as far as the officer trying to let her know he had paperwork and was dropping him off. She continued being a jerk! My adopted siblings came from foster homes and facilities. The sadness I saw in those places. Kids fighting back but it made you wonder why? Sedated by meds. So many of them. The youngest I saw was a 7 or 8 year old. Just broke my heart. So little among older kids. I pray for them. I pray this young man can get the love and support he needs to overcome. God be with him and so many children. ❤
Cop lied. The boy wasn't in the lobby. He is responsible until another takes over. The lady refused and he should not have walked away. Irresponsible piece of trash.
@@JbirdL2233 ; Well the cop isn’t. He clearly stated that the judges order was that he be taken to THAT facility. EXACTLY what the cop did and the nurse refused that order. In fact, she could care less.

This whole event is a training and procedure issue. Everyone involved needs to be addressed and follow the procedure in place. This officer should have never driven away and kept the teen in his sight while calling his supervisor.
Don't lull yourself into thinking this is random occurrence It is happening everywhere across America we are failing those most vulnerable! The entire mental health system is broken!
Yeah, the employee of the facility was absolutely at fault here. The officer did his job, attempted to reason with her holding a legal order and she walked off.
The officer lied to his superior though. No woman came to the door and looked out at him, and he implied that he saw the woman let the boy in the door.
@@decafjnr the woman came to the door at 12:56, she was wearing blue scrubs and peeked around the corner, the officer pointed at her with his phone. She immediately walks off.

The officers supervisor should have been requested to come out and take over, that releases the officer from something like this happening and the Supervisor then has to deal with it, go up the chain of command. The youngster was caught in the middle and there needs to be a review of procedures to insure this doesn't happen again.
Why? The supervisor has his own duties at the station. The court may have overstepped by ordering him there at night, the officer should have stayed until it got sorted out, the attendant should have complied with the court order. There's plenty of blame to go around here.

@@charlyperez1636 Heavily slowed and semi-slurred speech has nothing to do with manners or being polite, no matter how many times you say "yes sir / no ma'am". The cop was exhibiting a lot of behavior that suggests he was in some sort of altered mental state. My work history and experience in the recovery / mental health field tells me it's highly likely the officer had acute benzo intoxication. It makes a lot of sense, because a large portion of law enforcement officers are prescribed anxiolytics like Xanax and Klonopin due to the nature of the job. I'm not going to assume he has a prescription drug problem, but I'm almost certain the way he's acting is caused by an excessive amount of CNS depressants.
This is heartwrenching and tragic. What a terrible way for this child to be treated. Zero regard for his well-being or safety. It is infuriating. I pray that he was able to get the help he needs to start healing.
I remember this exact feeling. I was terrified with an anxiety disorder. All it did was make this worse. Worst experience I’ve ever had in my life and it will always stay with me.
This is so incredibly sad! This boy needs help and he is getting tossed out and left behind because……why? Why? We have some serious issues with how we (as a country) care for those with mental health issues.
I fell so bad for that boy, talking about him like he wasnt there, arguing over who gets him, tossing him back and forth like a hot potato. All he needs is help and for someone to actually care about his well being. I wish him luck and love in the world looks like he's going to need it. 😢
Before dropping the teen and leaving, the officer should have called his supervisor. It's terrible, and if anything bad occurred to the teen, he should have been held accountable.
My mom was a Psychiatric RN for 34 years at Southwestern State Hospital here in my hometown Marion, Virginia. I saw and grew up hearing some pretty disturbing things regarding the patient behaviors.. However the sheer incompetence and disrespectful exchanges that I saw here did not go on at Southwestern State, ever I never saw this once. I can hardly believe my eyes and ears.
Man this was heartbreaking to watch. You can tell the way he was acting plus turning towards the cop when he left the young man was just sad. I hope he got the help he needs.
As a Mother to a child who's been hospitalized twice, this broke my heart. Bless this poor babies heart. I had my fair share of MHI (mental health institutions) One of the worst of the worst is in Leesburg, VA called North Springs. You may have seen me go viral over the fight I took to get my child out of that facility. How it is still in operation is beyond me. Thankfully, SW VA ERs have taken that facility OFF their transfer list due to us! My God, the LEO just left that boy 😳😲 If that was my child, I would have flipped out! Also, If I was thay child I most likely would have bolted when he left.
Just from his body language, you could tell he felt alone, in this world. He needs to know people love him. He needs to know Jesus loves him. My heart goes out to him, no matter what the charges are, against him. Where is Sheriff Bob Fletcher, when you need him.
@@abundantlyclear The officer did a FANTASTIC job with him it was the NURSE who took a oath to DO NO HARM and didn't follow it by leaving a CHILD in need if help in a lobby when she was ordered by a court to help him.
Tell that to the nurse who outright REFUSED to let them in. She was legally, contractually and morally obliged to do so. She was uncooperative, against her oath, against a lawful order / contract. But yeah, just blame the police because the description of this video told you to do so. I love how common some people's senses are. Unbelievable.
Absolutely infuriating!! And I hate that he kept saying “delivering” which is what you do with a package, not a human being who is already struggling. Dehumanizing! People just “doing their job” without actually caring or helping. How do they sleep at night?
I dealt with this too except my abusive parents had me thrown in a mental health facility by lying claiming I was suicidal. I had never experienced that at all, just got tired of their abuse and I would usually fight back verbally. I didn’t mind being put in the facility because it gave me a break from the abuse, unfortunately it was only a week. I had even told teachers and called CPS and no one would rescue me.
This is EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO My friend. AND her MOM GAVE THE STAFF AT THE ASYLUM FAKE CONTACT INFO AND MOVED HOUSES WHILE she WAS IN THERE. SHE THEN ABANDONED her. She was homeless 3 years after that. DCF allowed her mom to abandon her because of the fake suicide/drug claims and the DCF lady didn't even verify if the mom had a safe place set up for her daughter to go (she didn't.)
This is a perfect example of why we have so many mentally ill patients in our streets. Facilities don’t have room, police don’t have time, and unfortunately, the patient is the only one who suffers. I don’t know the answer but I know what happened here isn’t part of it. Until these peoples families take some responsibility, it’s just going to get worse. And I’m not saying ALL families but as a former cop I know that most families don’t want to deal with the burden and they’d rather them just live on the streets. Sad
I'd say in almost all cases, their families have tried everything they can to responsibly deal with the "burden" of their child or loved one's mental health problems - but they are not trained mental health professionals. I speak as someone who has personally dealt with my adult child with mental health problems; I had to set boundaries and could no longer accept her behavior when living with me, yet I was worried sick every day when she was on the streets &/or couch surfing at times that she wouldn't or couldn't get into an inpatient facility - and there is a huge lack of them that will accept patients on medicaid/public aid. You sound like you have not had the burden of having to personally go through this & are just passing judgment saying you think most families don't want to deal with it & rather let them live on the streets. As a parent who has gone through it, I can attest it is a living nightmare and is very detrimental to the nuclear and even extended family.
@@playhooky perhaps you misinterpreted my response but I wasn’t judging anyone. You also assumed I have never dealt with someone in my family having mental health issues which is incorrect as well. When you say that families are not “healthcare professionals” you’re correct. A family would typically know much more about the patient than a healthcare professional could ever hope to. I get that it’s tough on a family unit, i do. But, There are a lot of free programs out there designed to help families cope and some that are willing to come to you and work inside the home. I know because I’ve been through a lot of them over the last 25 years. Oddly enough, I was the only one in attendance for most of them. Look I’m not passing judgement or professing to know all the answers. Like I said- I just know that what happened here is wrong on a lot of levels.
It's just like any medical system. If you can't pay or prove you can, you're not welcome. The health system in the U.S. is broken. There are so many health and social problems that could be better but no one that can do something cares. Why? Because they don't have to worry about it.
UNBELIEVABLE! Speechless. Someone please get these institutions running the way they should and help work together with LE to make the intakes easier and a bit more humane. YOU DON'T LEAVE A PERSON JUST HANGING LIKE THAT....PERIOD!
Your outrage is amusing. Where have you been? You think this is bad, just imagine all the individual suffering abuse and neglect by incompetent CNAs, nurses, and administrators in nursing homes across America, especially during the lockdowns when both state and federal governments imprisoned them, preventing their loved ones from checking them for over a year. Thousands wasted away in beds swimming in their own poop, not being changed or turned every one or two hours.
The staff should let him in like ten paperwork; states, they're the ones that have him waiting in the breezeway. No the officer shouldn't of left so soon but it's not his responsibility to babysit him, he did his part.
@@Constitution1789 Now you’re off on a different tangent. Let’s talk about that on a video about that. This is about a unprofessional police officer leaving a minor all alone in between two doors over facility with no adult supervision and shoving the paperwork under the door. Terrible.

14:00 He LIED!! No woman came to the door looked at him and walked away!!! I hope he’s been fired!! He DIDN’T know if the lad had been taken in by the staff or if he just ran away!!! I hope he’s NEVER a father!!!
The reason people don’t ask for help when they’re having a mental health crisis, is often due to feeling like they’re not seen or loved. Both this cop, and the woman behind closed doors, just failed this young man.
I've been in the exact same spot as this young man and it sickens me to see the way he was treated. The 1st time I was hospitalized in a mental health facility I was younger then him at only 12. Imagine being this young man and having suicidal ideations and seeing 2 grown ups arguing about your not their responsibility. I've been hospitalized in a mental health ward at least 30 times in my life. I'm 47 yrs old now and in all those times I was treated like a case number in prob 27 of those. Only maybe 3 or 4 times did the doctors and staff make me think that they actually cared. It's a freaking disgrace!!!!!
Clearly the officer should have stayed around to see the outcome HOWEVER the paperwork he had left under the door WAS collected presumably by the staff there and the child had been taken in. Both the facility staff and the officer could have done SO much better for the sake of this young man . Sad
When that cop came back and I didn't see this boy my heart panicked. How does the cop know that the boy was taken in if he couldn't get a response from the telephone verifying that??? Disgraceful!!!
That’s what I was thinking, he could have just left after being rejected and left alone. Officer should have made sure the child was definitely taken in 😢
My parents kicked me out at 14 and sent me to a mental health "treatment" facility after they abused me for years and got tired of me. I was abused further, and nearly brainwashed at that facility and I was there 4 years before I turned 18 and left. I truly feel for this kid because these places proclaim to help but usually end up screwing up kids worse than if they'd stayed at home and had a private doctor. As a former LEO this officer should have stayed with his ward the entire time until that door was opened and he was let inside. I'm freaking dumbfounded at how this played out.
In my book, it was abandonment, pure and simple. The facility couldn't accept him, the department said too bad, so even if the building was burning to the ground he had to be accepted by the now enslaved facility. Since they were at loggerheads, he left a minor child in an unsecure location and called it a job well done, but the law rightfully calls abandonment. The lawless enforcement officer's reasoning is, there's a chair right there. If there are no rooms, he's expected to live on a chair. And people wonder why some want to defund such lawless groups!
I knew as a child after telling police & several counselors about how I was being abused that nobody was going to help me. So I left my house and stayed over at different friends houses with my belongings in a duffel bag, worked part time at a restaurant, and finished school. The best thing kids can do is mind their business & try on their own.
I am shocked and disgusted by that facility behavior I think everyone forgets that the children of today are our future and that boy will always remember what happened
wow this officer straight up lied to his superior, he didn't know where the boy was he could have walked out right after he left. This cop should lose his job!
I've work as a nurse for over 25 years, many of those years in psych/mental health. And I have never seen an intake like that. Anytime anyone is admitted to a locked facility your have to have a court order. You can be admitted by a DR. but you must get a court order within 72 hours. There are 2 reasons why someone is admitted to a locked mental health facility. The keyword being "locked". One is that you are a danger to yourself, the other is you are a danger to others. Unfortunately, because the patient is a juvenile it is possible that the parents could have influenced the judge in order to get him to sign the court order. I am not saying that is what happened here, just that it does happen. I am assuming that is what the paperwork was (a court order), although I have never quite put the way the officer in the video put it. Regardless, when a Judge does issue a court order to be detained in a mental health facility, there are coordinators that call the facility to make sure there is a bed available and to give an ETA so the nurse can schedule her work in order have time to do an admittance, and a nurse evaluation. It should have been in the officers training that you can't leave someone going into a locked facility alone. It was obviously his first time performing such a duty. So someone should have also told him before hand. As for whoever answered the door she was obviously some untrained person hired because they were understaffed.
I dont wanna say i know exactly what happened but seeing how both parties didnt want to attend to the child and it was called on and his parents are no where to be found or a lawyer, they set him up to be left on the streets... And if he came back to society , they were going to charge with a worse crime .
It’s a wonder how anyone improves their mental health with these people running these facilities. Mandatory EQ testing before hiring anyone in a position of authority.
This is outrageous! I suffer from schizoaffective disorder and have been taken to a facility. I cannot IMAGINE being left there like that. What a couple of uncaring, selfish morons! I hope those involved in this pay the consequences they deserve. Young man, I hope you truly get the help you need. Please know that not all of us are as heartless as these two.
This breaks my heart, where has common sense and compassion went these days?? That poor boy didn’t say anything as he stood there he was frightened, then this facility wants to argue w this officer and he argues back and then leaves!!!!! Obviously the kid needed SOMEONE! Why not stay there or find a place that is welcoming or can help him. If this is the way they care for patients,I wouldn’t want him or anyone getting “so to speak help from them” sending lots of lots of love, hugs and prayers to this young man! Please know you are enough and this is a small phase that shall pass! ❤️
People are blaming the Officer leaving the minor teen there between 2 door areas, but you have to look at this situation differently. It was the facility's staff member that was ignoring the court order of accepting the teen into the secured building & was "passing the buck" by refusing the teen. At the same time, yes the Officer left the teen in the building, but he did NOT leave the facility's grounds & has a visual on the entrance door.

Why lock people out of a facility that they're being placed at when the officer showed the paperwork and gave them an explanation. But he shouldn't have left and had to turn around to go back.
The only thing the officer did that he shouldn't have done was to leave the kid in an unsecured area, but that wasn't his fault. I've been through this before and what the lady at the hospital could've been was simply a secretary or some other type of help and she doesn't have the authority to admit this kid. It's OBVIOUS that there is a HUGE breakdown in procedures regarding intake for court ordered holds. If that lady isn't qualified to provide actual care of the patient, that can put LE and the hospital in danger if something happens to him. If he wanders off and gets hurt or commits another offense, the LE is liable. It's really a bit of a nightmare when agencies don't communicate with each other. By the time a parent turns to court for help with their kids, they are desperate, scared and realize they're in over their heads. By the time you're putting them in a hospital, you're broken 💔 and close to crazy yourself. Imagine if they had to call people like that and tell them we misplaced your kid 😳 not good. They need to iron out their procedures before someone gets really hurt
"but that wasn't his fault." dude you said it, the only thing he did wrong was to leave the child unsecured and unsupervised, he did it and of course it is his fault that he did it. As to the underlying problem, I would question whether the home can lawfully operate without a supervisor on site. If the law allows them to operate without a supervisor on site then you change the law to solve the problem.
i had to call the police recently while going through a mental health crisis and luckily the officers that responded listened to me and made sure i knew that even at 7am they were going to help me. i was taken to a psych ward where everyone luckily treated me with care, except the head doctor who was screaming at a patient when i came in. i didn’t have to talk to her, but her presence towards others made me upset for the other patients
I've taken more care delivering plastic bags than this guy did with a minor! Any idiot would have known to call his supervisor at the first sign of a problem! This guy intentionally left a troubled minor unsupervised and alone in a mental health facility vestibule! He drove away before calling, then had to go back! And the supervisor says piss on them? Deinstitutionalization from the system that existed in the 60's has had it's drawbacks, sad to say.
All of the medical systems in the US need a serious overhaul

You’re correct, the cop did lie. Plus he sounds like a complete doofus. Spouting all this crap about the “constitution“ was completely laughable. Constitution has nothing to do with that. Presumably he had an order signed by a judge/magistrate, and I don’t know if the order actually is binding on the hospital to accept the child or if it’s just binding on the cop to deliver him to the hospital basically giving him permission to force the kid to go to the hospital.

(That was sarcasm.)
"Why didn't they get the kid help before this?!" No one wants to hear how help was actively being sought but they were turned away or denied or asked to pay thousands a DAY as insurance wouldn't cover it. Absolutely
The hospital shares just as much blame.
I think the officer is or at least should be in trouble. Schizophrenia is horrible. I know because I survived it. It doesn’t go away overnight.
Period!
Whole bunch of tax dollars going to that facility, what a waste. Looks like the staff needs more treatment than the teen does.

If the staff are violating a court order, the correct course is to arrest the staff member. The fact that this would probably involve lots of lawyers, the media, and mountains of paperwork is why this correct procedure was not followed. If you or I violated a court order, we would be in handcuffs.
based
Fire the cop. He left a child unsecured. Poor decision making skills.
@@kevincinnamontoast3669 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣

Duties and responsibilities. It is not his duty nor his responsibility to sit there and play father or social worker. He did his job. You know who didn't do their job? As a teen who was put in a mental health facility, I remember how scared I was back then. This video brings it all back 25 years later
I’m very sorry you went thru your traumas. We live in a created society that should teach compassion at the forefront but does not.

Sad

My parents kicked me out at 14 also. It was a tough life that I still pay for with no education and had children at 16
Sounds like your just a victim.
Should have just behaved at home then ha
So true about these treatment facilities. Sometimes kids are abused more in them than they were at home.
The best thing kids can do is mind their business & try on their own.

wow this officer straight up lied to his superior, he didn't know where the boy was he could have walked out right after he left.

I'm not sure what was going on with the facility but that poor kid was stuck in the middle. What a bad situation, and an unfortunate example of the state of our mental health system.
My heart was truly breaking for the young man since my son also deals with MH issues. 😔
The cop failed to do his job, fire him.
@@kevincinnamontoast3669 How exactly did the cop fail? He was to drop the kid at the facility, and he did. The kid was delivered safely, job done.
@@kevincinnamontoast3669 the lady that wouldn't open the door was the problem. The cop did everything he was supposed to do.
You didn’t even watch the video. You’ve got so much shit up your ass that you just hate on cops no matter what the context is. You seriously need to grow the fuck up.
Wow, way to make a kid feel like he’s important and that his life is precious. 🙄 Poor thing.
Wtf these people just left this kid who is probably scared already by himself this is why people don’t trust mental hospitals
Both are at fault the facility person and the police officer, my heart goes out to the young person that needed their help and did not get any.
i agree 1000%
Same here. I can’t believe the cop drive away and called his superior and I believe he thought he was still there and not half way out the parking lot that made me mad and the facility lady not opting the door for the child and let him sit in that chair upset me the system is so broken ! Pray for them all change is needed
Not the police fault
@@marywilson8733 What? He should never have left the boy, a minor, alone like that. Both adults here were definitely to blame!
@@sassypeach64peach81 Both sides acted like quirky people. I can't find anything right about their actions as being professionals in their line of work. Too busy to accomplish the job that they were hired for. They both need to get into another line on work.
Fire the cop. He left a child unsecured. End of story.
Well said👍
"but that wasn't his fault." dude you said it, the only thing he did wrong was to leave the child unsecured and unsupervised, he did it and of course it is his fault that he did it.
As to the underlying problem, I would question whether the home can lawfully operate without a supervisor on site. If the law allows them to operate without a supervisor on site then you change the law to solve the problem.
Amen
yes it's his fault, he should have waited there with the kid. He's an irresponsible officer.
I feel so sorry for this young man I hope he will get the help he needs
i had to call the police recently while going through a mental health crisis and luckily the officers that responded listened to me and made sure i knew that even at 7am they were going to help me. i was taken to a psych ward where everyone luckily treated me with care, except the head doctor who was screaming at a patient when i came in. i didn’t have to talk to her, but her presence towards others made me upset for the other patients
This is horrible. You do not abandon anyone in crisis like that. Inhumane.
Fire them both!
I can tell you if your bringing “anyone” to a locked facility they can’t be left unattended! Ever! Then again I’ve never seen staff refuse a patient! Ever! Both parties are at fault in this case.
He wasn't left inside. He was left outside the secure area. Not acceptable. That officer should've had that kid in the car and waited until he was inside. Disgusting. Absolutely sickening.
